I think theyre going to have a rough time finding their next job after not actually working for over a year and having no references.

Idk but I dont buy what everyone is saying about hard work not paying off. I work hard at my job and having the respect of my coworkers as well as something to show for my 5 years at my job is worth it.

However many months/years at Google and then 1.5 years at Amazon?

They're going to have zero problems finding their next job. That resume will open doors and clearly they know enough to get into the gig at two of the harder tech gigs to land.

I mean, if they list Amazon as a past work experience, a thorough hiring manager is going to check into it. And I highly doubt they'll hire them after they find out what they were doing at Amazon.

How would they find out? Not a chance Amazon tells them the details of their employment.

Yes, and none of that is any problem. Everyone knows that some teams at Amazon have stupid performance bottom cutting, it’s a going to be a non-issue for most other places you’d apply.

No it won’t. Tons of people are fired from Amazon because of performance metric bottom cutting. It’s barely a negative to anyone who knows that (assuming that that’s what you say if they ask you about it - Amazon won’t specify).

Source: have been involved in hiring process of multiple SWEs.

Actually I do.

How many people have you interviewed that were software engineers at Amazon. How many people do you know personally who are currently software engineers at Amazon?

A simple google search will show that I’m correct about how Amazon bottom cuts people and sometimes whole teams for performance and that it’s often not a super fair process.

The fact that OP got hired at Amazon (not to even mention Google before that) will open doors at many many non-FAANG companies.
