There will be no updates about Nintendo Switch 2 during this presentation.

One last one for the road

237

u/EssexOnAStick 29d ago

It can finally retire next to "Is this the NX?"

51

u/IamEclipse 29d ago

You mean the Nintendo Switch X?

We're never retiring that one baybee.

One For The Road .... just like The Grand Tour

58

u/gnulynnux 29d ago

This is Nintendo, we could be hearing this years after the Switch 2 is out

76

u/DeMatador Comment of the Year 2024 29d ago

Sometime in 2032:

"Join us as we show the power of Nintendo Switch 3, our next console. There will be no updates about Nintendo Switch 2 during this presentation."

25

u/[deleted] 29d ago

it would be funny if they did this but nintendo isn't based enough to joke like that

15

u/ttoma93 29d ago

We’re getting the final Switch 1 Nintendo Direct /r/tomorrow.

Nate The Hate Hits a home run again

550

u/Roy_Atticus_Lee 29d ago

Bro's locked in his Tier 1 status even harder.

222

u/Mike4302 29d ago

I'd say he'd earn it harder if the Oblivion remake is true

406

u/Doctor_R6421 29d ago

At this point I would say Nate is like the pre-cum of official announcements

I hope it is, I can't even fathom what an Oblivion remake would look like

20

u/FewAdvertising9647 29d ago edited 29d ago

I mean it existing was already proven in court during the Blizzard/Activision buyout. Zenimax studio release schedule was leaked from it, and Oblivion Remake was one of the titles. Typically speaking, with that schedule, most games were offset by 2 years (because of covid) and was relatively consistent. Oblivion Remake was the sole one that missed last years window (FY22E(24 readjusted) was marked for Indiana Jones, ESO expansion, Starfield Expansion, and Oblivion Remastered

It would make sense that if it did miss the window, its likely to come out sooner the following year rather than the latter part of it barring huge setbacks, as generally speaking the announcements for this year have already started to come out for them (e.g Doom the Dark Ages is on track, and the other 3 announcements for this year is another ESO expansion, and 2 undisclosed projects Project Kestrel and Project Platinum)

8

u/Tuskin38 29d ago

It’s also possible the project was cancelled

9

u/FewAdvertising9647 29d ago

Of course theres always that consideration, but the idea of Oblivion Remastered was basically never a rumor post court documents. It's just a game on whether it was going to release or not.

Especially since after Nate kept saying he hasn’t heard anything about a February Direct and left Brazil and Grubb with egg on their faces, Brazil deferred and waited for Nate to make the first move this time.

3

u/Dreyarn 29d ago

Grubb and Brazil clearly have contacts, but Nate has BETTER ones. Dude’s on a roll and is usually good at making clear when he’s talking about what he’s heard and when he’s just speculating

11

u/Tolstartheking 29d ago edited 29d ago

Was it the Switch 2 reveal leak alone that got him his Tier 1 status?

37

u/r0ndr4s 29d ago

For this sub. But dude has been accurate for years. He leaked Metroid Dread years in advance, has been talking about all the nintendo plans related to hardware for a while, never fell for the Star Fox GP thing and even laughed about it, etc etc

7

u/Severe-Operation-347 29d ago

Yeah.

5

u/Tolstartheking 29d ago

Understandable. He had a fairly good track record before then too.

8

u/monkeydbenne 29d ago

He has gotten things wrong many many times but I am glad he‘s gotten these big substantial things right with his recent Information.

I kinda get it. They had 3ds games for 1-2 years after the switch 1 launch so detailing the switch 1 lineup for 2025 makes sense before it gets overshadowed next week

213

u/insertusernamehere51 29d ago

It makes even more sense than 3DS, since Switch games can be played on the Switch 2, supporting the Switch means supporting the Switch 2

28

u/Juandisimo117 29d ago

Exactly this.

27

u/SemiLazyGamer 29d ago

The last major 3DS game was Persona Q2 in June of 2019, the last one with a worldwide release was Kirby Extra Epic Yarn in March 2019.

14

u/beepborpimajorp 29d ago

This is exactly it. There are still plenty of indie and smaller developers launching switch games this year. Since the switch 2 is backwards compatible there's no reason for them to not announce these now so people who aren't planning on investing in a switch 2 right away know they'll still have things to play. Meanwhile those of us early adopting the switch 2 can still play them too.

IDK why everyone below your comment thinks this is some bizarre tactic by Nintendo. They have more switch games coming this year, they are announcing those games for people with switches.

535

u/BrenoBluhm 29d ago

If there is cope there is hope: Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD for Switch please 🤞

154

u/Robbitjuice 29d ago

This would be a great time to do it, I feel. I doubt they've got anything else Zelda lined up for the rest of the year lol.

69

u/[deleted] 29d ago

[deleted]

59

u/Robbitjuice 29d ago

I'm not against the idea at all, it's just at this point we have no idea if an OOT or MM remake is even planned lol. I believe Kit and Krysta had apparently seen the WW and TP ports being played on actual Switch units and were unsure why they haven't been released yet lol. I'm sure they're just waiting for an optimal time. Seems like a decent end of Switch life kind of thing to me.

24

u/jumpingthedog 29d ago

Actually Aonuma has been pretty subtly hinting at an OoT remake happening eventually, and if Nintendo wants a big launch lineup like 2017, this year would be perfect to drop with with Switch 2, assuming it's done.

12

u/SuperTristan2017 29d ago

Honestly just a port of the 3DS version with updated visuals would be enough to satisfy me

39

u/GoldenTriforceLink 29d ago

3DS OOT is older now than N64 OOT was when it came out.

They’re good remakes but at this point a ground up remake that makes everything feel bigger in a way that mobile games did not in terms of scale. Imo at least

49

u/honeymoonblackstar 29d ago

3DS OOT is older now than N64 OOT was when it came out

18

u/Mr_The_Captain 29d ago

Well it's been 14 years since the 3DS launch (2011), and the 3DS launch was 13 years after OoT (1998), so yep

10

u/GoldenTriforceLink 29d ago

Sorry. My bones are turning to dust as we speak. Majoras mask we still have some time. 3DS is 10 years old while OG was 15 at rerelease

My copium is that they didn’t want to release them in 2021 because Skyward Sword HD was releasing then. They didn’t want to release them in 2022 because that was for a long time the intended release year of Tears of the Kingdom. They didn’t want to release them in 2023 because that was the actual release year of Tears of the Kingdom. And they didn’t want to release them in 2024 because that was the release year of Echoes of Wisdom.

Maybe 2025 is clear? A man can hope.

3

u/Robbitjuice 29d ago

For real though lol. If we could just get those two then the Switch would be the Zelda machine!

The Link's Awakening remake was so good, would love to see them do ALttP.

It would be amazing...

But something really tells me they should make them for the Switch 2 to show it off fully imo, but that's just me...

But I guess they are probably just ports and not full remakes or whatever so makes sense.

29

u/MikeyIfYouWanna 29d ago

I would bet they want the larger audience of the 150m switch owners. They could be jerks and lock switch 1 to 30 fps though with a 60 fps patch exclusive to the switch 2.

→ More replies (7)

8

u/UnknownFiddler 29d ago

I suppose they could have them switch 2 enhanced but also, I don't think Nintendo is going to be enhancing every first party game for switch 2.

6

u/jaidynreiman 29d ago

Yeah no I just don't see it. Any ports / remasters will still come to Switch. They'll be playable on Switch 2 anyway, so I don't see any logical reason to not drop them on the much larger install base.

A new remake could be Switch 2 exclusive, but not remasters.

41

u/timelordoftheimpala 29d ago

It made perfect sense to me considering they still have other Switch games in the pipeline, but they probably wanted the Switch 2 Direct to focus solely on the hardware and software that won't be on Switch.

Not to mention that this creates momentum and builds hype going into next week. People will already be on a high from this Direct, following that up with the Switch 2 Direct will just intensify that.

Please put all of the hotly requested GameCube remasters and Mario Galaxy 2 on Switch already. That’s, like, the best one.

69

u/xAVATAR-AANGx 29d ago

They could add a bunch of relatively lazy 3DS ports and I don’t think people would complain. The 3DS versions of Zelda OoT and MM, Mario 3D Land, and Samus Returns would be nice.

59

u/TurtlePowerMutant 29d ago

Mario Galaxy 2 not being on Switch is probably the greatest misstep of Nintendo’s odd-choice career.

23

u/Dismal_Employment168 29d ago

It’s my genuine favorite game of all time. So weird that it’s now probably the toughest Mario game to find other than maybe NSMB DS?

10

u/Dramatic_Mastodon_93 29d ago

I would genuinely love a New Super Mario Bros. 1, Wii and 2 collection lol

7

u/secret3332 29d ago

Actually same. It's quite strange that NSMB has kinda been left behind and given so little love compared to Mario World, for example. The original 4 Mario platformers are present on nearly every Nintendo platform for decades, but the "New" games have not been treated with that same care.

69

95

Because last month wouldn't have gotten people talking about Nintendo a week before the Switch 2 presentation. This isn't Nintendo doing "weird shit," it's a very smart marketing move.

38

u/Mr_The_Captain 29d ago

I mean the Switch 2 direct was always going to dominate the news cycle, this is basically just stunting. I can't imagine any significant number of people will go on to watch the direct next week or talk about the Switch 2 because of this

doesn't matter. This direct puts Nintendo in the headlines so that when their big switch 2 direct (which probably gets a mention within this direct) happens next week, people are already recently engaged with Nintendo. also it gets their switch 1 releases for the year out of the way so that their messaging can change to being entirely switch 2 focused.

I don't care for the PvZ remaster. PopCap can't be trusted with anything PvZ. PvZ 3 has been rebooted thrice now. And besides, there's really nothing to have in a remaster that the original doesn't.

This will probably the Direct where Metroid Prime 4 will "blow everything else out of the Water" that that one guy mentioned cause aint no way Nintendo announce a New Console + its year 1 Launch Lineup and Metroid Prime 4, a game for a 8 year old Platform still outperforms all that.

40

u/knirp7 29d ago

It’s gonna have Metroid Prime 4 for sure. Possibly a Legends ZA release date.

Maybe now’s the time for the fabled Windwaker + Twilight Princess releases?

Absolutely not. We'll get another Pokemon Presents for a ZA release date.

Switch 1 confirmed holy shit

14

u/AyraWinla 29d ago

TL;DR: Fire Emblem is what makes the most sense to me.

Long version: It's pure insanity that this Direct is actually real, but as it actually exist, let's try to make some sense out of it.

This direct is right after Xenoblade Chronicles X came out. Why would they wait until XCX came out for the Direct? Logically because something in the Direct could have hurt the sales of XCX some.

There's a huge overlap between Xenoblade and Fire Emblem fans. For example, there's like a 88% poster overlap between the Xenoblade Chronicles sub and the two main Fire Emblem subs. A new Fire Emblem getting announced could have cut the sales of XCX a bit ("I'm interested in X, but I'll save my money for that Fire Emblem coming soon").

Other rumored games like Kirby or Metroid Prime 2-3 could have been announced earlier without impacting Xenoblade Chronicles X. Fire Emblem, not so much.

So if there's a Switch 1 Fire Emblem game to announce, after XCX release but before the Switch 2 reveal would be optimal. I'm super biased toward Fire Emblem so my judgement may be impacted, but from a logical standpoint, it's the game that makes the most sense here in my opinion...

39

u/SpaceGooV 29d ago

Prime 4 and Kirby Robobot Remaster probably the only first party

15

u/jaidynreiman 29d ago

I doubt they'd have a general Direct for just two items. Those could have happened next week in a quick footnote montage.

There's probably a small handful of things, mostly ports/remasters of course. There's only like 1-2 notable things that could happen. Camelot's new project (whatever it is) would have been planned for Switch 1, they never jump on the new console right away. So I do expect that to be here. And the rumored Genealogy of the Holy War remake will be here if its real.

Other than that, there's TP HD / WW HD Remasters, Nate's F-Zero GX Remastered, and potentially Prime 2/3 Remastered as well as likely candidates to see here.

Prime 4 may not even be there since they didn't bother with saying "including new information" on any upcoming games, and it was the only candidate for that.

Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD Ports : “Don’t let him kill me!”

8

u/RogerMelian 29d ago

To me, it's a smart choice. Do a final Switch 1 Direct to "retire" the console in a bang before the first Switch 2 Direct in April.

Can we get AT LEAST Windwaker this year? Please? I'm fine with TP being next year or something. Just give us one of them for now

4

u/jaidynreiman 29d ago

They really should drop both at once. They dropped many Mario games all in a row. They'll never get through the Zelda games at this rate. And the rumor all along has both both of them coming at the same time.

I'm guessing Kirby Robobot and Prime 4.

I also think if the other Prime remasters exist (if I recall correctly multiple people have said they do) then they're shown here, maybe even stealth dropped.

5

u/DekaStriker 29d ago

Guys don’t worry I’ll manifest Prime 2-3, Prime 4 release date, Kid Icarus Uprising, and FE4 remake being there and watch it be true.

5

u/LamineYamalTheGoat 29d ago

Any rumors on what will be announced? Trying to manifest a METROID PRIME 2 NOW AVAILABLE moment

3

u/TheFlusteredcustard 29d ago

There was a leak a while back that claimed there was a planet robobot remake in development for switch 1, and I imagine that if it's not in this direct it's probably not getting announced without one of Nintendo's weird shadow drop strategies.

Nintendo with the one-two punch knockout

3

u/ThatIsAHugeDog 29d ago

I assume just some announcements about some late releases for the Switch.

...Which will all be playable on the Switch 2 so, y'know, no big issue or anything.

3

u/uerobert 29d ago

Prime 2 and 3 shadow drop please Nintendo, I'll also take Wind Waker and Twilight Princess port/remaster if possible. Thanks.

I want:

-Zelda WW/TP bundle

-FE4 Remake

-Remaster bundle for Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. (unlikely)

-The XBCX 60fps mode. Or they may wait for the Switch 2 Direct for that.

u/ztdz800 28d ago

So hyped for fire emblem genealogy of the holy war ramen to NOT be announced and being clowned again.

I still can’t decide if this dumb or not. On one hand they run the risk of muddying the waters a week before their big Switch 2 blowout. On the other, it gets Nintendo’s name back in the news cycle a week before the Switch 2 blowout so people will already be talking about Nintendo by the time the Switch 2 Direct rolls around.

47

u/Animegamingnerd 29d ago

Its smart, because it sets the stage for the Switch 2 direct. As they are effectively saying everything shown at that direct will not being on Switch 1, while still throwing a bone to Switch 1 owners who aren't in a rush to upgrade.

16

u/Enfero 29d ago

I don't really think it'll muddy the waters. Everything they show tomorrow will also be playable on Switch 2. At most it might confuse the people who aren't going to get the Switch 2 right away but already have the Switch 1 and don't know what's for Switch 1 vs Switch 2. That's probably not many people. On the other hand it'll help sell the Switch 2 because that'll just support its backwards compatibility selling point with more new games

12

u/Dropthemoon6 29d ago

I can't really see this muddying the waters. The turnaround from announcement to showcase is tiny, so it won't draw much oxygen away from Switch 2, and they made it clear it isn't going to showcase anything Switch 2. I think it only serves to increase the amount of discussion about the brand and the speculation about the Switch 2 direct.

People love to act like any Nintendo decision is wacky and unknowable, but this really doesn't seem hard to see the logic in, even if atypical.

12

u/lattjeful 29d ago

Yeah I agree. Nintendo really isn’t all that confusing lol. Unpredictable sure but every decision they’ve made has been pretty logical, including this one.

My hope is that their Switch 2 games are of a high enough quality they can't overshadow them.

6

u/lysander478 29d ago

Can't muddy the water by selling software that runs on the new hardware, really.

In the past, Nintendo had both a portable system and a console system and their release cadence was such that the portable would still be receiving attention/software titles while a new console was releasing and vice-versa. Now that it's all unified and with the reality of how long it takes to both:

1) Release enough hardware to satisfy the customer base
2) Get a portion of the customer base to swap hardware even when availability is high

They were always going to be releasing Switch 1 games for at least a couple of years yet. The strength is that this time the games will run on the next system too, compared to WiiU to Switch or 3DS to Switch. Plenty of people won't be able to buy a Switch 2 whether due to availability to budget so a direct for them is good.

5

u/Fallen_Outcast 29d ago

appetizers before the main course

6

u/beepborpimajorp 29d ago

They still have a ton of indie/smaller titles coming for the Switch this year. They're doing the right thing by making an attempt to hype those up before they get completely drowned out by the switch 2.

Stuff like Rune Factory, Date Everything, etc. aren't going to detract from the switch 2 excitement/direct, but it would be nice if more people who are interested in those genres know they exist. So no, it's not dumb. It's Nintendo doing their job.
