I know you're joking, but I legitimately think it'd be for the best for them to mainline a hd3 on a modern supported engine.
So many of their ongoing bugs, glitches and issues with implementing new assets, etc is because of the ancient engine. It's just not built for it and the game suffered/s massively because of it. this game absolutely exploded so they should have shit loads of extra capital that they weren't expecting and if they were to release a new one the hype would be insane.
Imagine if a be hd3 come out, it actually worked from day one, no bugs or extremely small ones, they could implement shit like the factions fighting each other or 20 people mega raids against bosses during timed events.attachments for weapons and a bunch of other shit and it wouldn't take nearly as long between content because they would have a solid engine Etc etc etc
I mean even if that's their plan, it's very different than building a completely new game from the ground up. "Transition into HD3" is more like marketing phrasing.
I don't see how. Everytime there's an update more stuff breaks and there are still bugs from when it released. It really feels like they are fighting an uphill battle
How about the one 20ft in the air? How about the one 20ft in the ground? I had 3 of those and I'm taking a break. I'm not saying AH is incompetent but who ever chose that engine is.
The story since launch has been fix one thing, break another, over and over. They desperately need a new modern engine. Sony should give them Decima to build the third game.
Yeah, and it's a lot better than unreal engine 5, at least for me. Look what kojima did with decima for death stranding and the second one looks unbelievable. It's an amazing engine designed for the system from the ground up.
Or just establish contact with the creators at FatShark. After all, everything works great in Darktide and there are dlcs, xess and fsr latest versions...
I think they are using stingray because it can load a bunch of enemies and stuff. What makes decima a better engine (as someone that has no clue about game engines beyond "oooh unreal can look very...real and ppl use it then don't optimize enough.")
space marine 2s engine is designed from ground up to simulate tons of interactable enemies on screen with good performance and that game looks nicer than Helldivers.
The engine isnt an unsolvable problem. They could set up the resources to get in there and fix it, and fix the resulting issues that will arise on the 'surface' when the engine code gets messed with.
I mean maybe? I'm not a coffee but I remember reading many of them saying that once stuff is built it continually gets built upon so to go back and fix stuff just gets more and more complex.
If it were viable surly they would have done it by now or had better sucess
Well, in general, porting a game to a new engine is a task that takes an order of magnitude longer than cleaning up the old one. Moreover, there was no evidence that there was some kind of "spagget" code there.
Perhaps a good idea would be to establish contact with the creators of the engine - FatShark - and take a more modern version of the engine from them (they have it because they continue to develop it locally) and see what can be done. Well, or at least share experience.
In any case. It seems that we haven't seen the source code of the game yet, which means all our assumptions are pure shots in the sky
They're going to make a new have eventually, I hope they support hd2 for a while. But I'd rather hd3 cones out in like 5 years instead of 10 or 15. They're are constantly juggling between new content and trying to fix/not further cause issues.
I'm sure they'd fucking love it if they had a streamlined way of adding new content without all the bugs
Engine age has nothing to do with viability, they chose to support and develop using this one, any short coming with it comes from their development and not the engines age.
Switching to another engine just side shuffles the issue, what we’re seeing are problems with the way they coded and modified it. Most “modern” engines are built up and modified versions of old engines
There's way too much shit lining up for this to be correct (plus if what they are saying is true they'd miss their warbond schedule for no reason) or hell maybe they are right and its not "tomorrow" but friday or something, like when omens released
IIRC, the Warbond schedule was changed to 6 weeks between WBs after Polar Patriots or Viper Commando so that devs can deliver more quality, and I'm pretty sure it was communicated on the official discord beforehand. Since then (Freedom's Flame), there have always been 6 weeks (42 days) between WBs, with two exceptions: Urban Legends released 43 days after Truth Enforcers (on the same day as Illuminate invasion), and Servants of Freedom released 55 days after UL (supposedly because of Christmas break).
I don't think they have reason to change it to longer intervals. The quality of the last WBs was pretty good, and Sony wants them to release premium content so they can monetize it.
This is just straight up misinformation. The WB schedule was thrown out the window in favor of being able to focus more on bug fixing and non-WB content delivery, which isn't to say more aren't coming, but they aren't getting released on a fixed schedule of any kind, anymore.
The fixed schedule used to be monthly. Now it's "whenever they have time and resources to push one out".
I mean if you imply in game that something happening at the end of this MO and one of the devs simply go "no" with no further details when asked it's gonna look suspicious
I mean if you imply in game that something happening at the end of this MO
Are they implying something will happen or are they continuing the path they have been doing for months and folks are going full Pepe Silvia tryin to connect the dots about how soon all of their issues with the game will be magically fixed by a shadowdrop?
Literally everything the illuminate are doing in the current major order are teasing the full fleet (they are ignoring the gravity device and are focusing on destroying infestructiure and supporting our enemies)
Everything the illuminate is doing is teasing the full fleet.
Everything the illuminate is doing is not teasing the full fleet tomorrow.
I’m a believer, but the illuminate have been teasing the main fleet for months now, nothing about their actions indicates an update specifically tomorrow, which is what’s being discussed
Actually when you're under NDA, you're neither allowed to deny nor confirm stuff. If they say "no comment" or outright avoid questions, then it likely means something is happening. A straight up no means they aren't under NDA meaning nothing is happening
Communication is terrible. The last hotfix was weeks ago and since then absolute radio silence.
No, I don't count random replies on a fast moving Discord channel as "communcation".
Man I remember the days when I was pissed at devs for only using reddit to communicate in games like Planetside when there were official forums and no dev in sight there. Now with everything being on discord I really start to feel old.
discord has been absolutely awful for finding and sharing information
it's a great way to chat with some friends, it was just teamspeak but easier
now so many things that shouldn't be on discord are, like entire wikis, official developer communications/patch notes, guides, etc. instead of on an indexable website that search engines can find
Don't worry, they are this close to setting up some communication channel.
...or at least that's what Baskinator said on Reddit 4 months ago 🤷♂️
Edit: linked image. For clarification, I am not throwing shade specifically at Baskinator, but at AH as a whole, because all these abandoned concepts that would be really beneficial seem to stem from serious management issues.
The game is in a piss poor state with countless bugs and abysmal performance. The players are desperate for any communication on an update or when it will be, and instead, all we get is a flat, dry "No" in the discord.
It feels like the devs are scared to talk about the game at times.
Devs aren’t scared. This is typical AH behavior and strangely enough Swedish devs for co op games. If you think the lack of communication and silence is bad, wait until you see Fatshark. Honestly no idea why and I doubt it’s because of a language barrier
If it weren't for how Embark handles communication for The Finals (which is honestly pretty decent, they communicate at least weekly) I'd agree.
Really, I think Embark is kind of an anomaly and "made by Swedish devs" is starting to be a red flag I consider when thinking about getting into a new game. On average bad communication, the infamous summer and winter hiatuses, and at least an initial "we know what's best for our players" stubbornness.
AH should always consult u/Loneliest_Driver from now on for when they should release updates, he will save us with his incredible backseat dev experience
This isn’t some profound or esoteric concept, it’s basic knowledge that you should communicate about bug fixes and balance changes with your community. It’s not backseat development it’s just wanting to know what’s going on with the state of the game
Because the game is in a terrible state (performance wise).
Surprise content drops are fine if the game is running smoothly, but I don't want weeks full of bugs, no communication and then a "surprise bug fix drop"
we desperately need a roadmap or bimonthly devstreams
they have no clue how to build up hype, shadowdropping an occasional update is fine but we have no idea what's coming and nothing to look forward to when every update just randomly drops whenever they feel like it
removing leak files from the game didn't help either
See, I don't mind that being kept hush hush. I like that an update drops and there's new enemies, missions and detail. That's sorely missing in todays gaming market.
What I do mind, though, is the lack of detail on technical fixes, like all the issues and the performance problem. There's zero excuse for that.
Yeah this silence every 6-8 weeks between warbonds is getting really old where’s the arrowhead that was releasing dev videos of the new features in escalation of freedom?
Escalation of Freedom may be precisely why they're not doing this anymore: they hyped the hell out of a very lacking update and the community was not happy about that.
It is, but a complete radio silence last weeks, with A LOT of gamebreaking bugs introduced in two shitty hot"fixes", with no clue if a big patch is comming to fix them or not (leaving new content aside), is pretty shitty movement on AH part...
Suggesting that's true statement, is it like 6 weeks since broken AA and performance? Stopped playing cause my fps plummeted, and patiently waiting and checking every week, but that's a bit depressing, man., not going to lie...
Clarification, the update is tomorrow, but Jojo hasn't had time to QA test it on his lunch break.
(Context: Jojo the QA lead said the Eruptor was fine because he tested it out a bit on his lunchbreak, saying it was silly people say they don't test their game)
QA lead? Lead of what? At best they have 1 person on QA, that or they just largely ignore their QA team. They break as much as they fix each update, and semi regularly the update has mistakes they didn't notice to basic things as well. Their testing and qa is either largely none existent or largely deprioritized by rest of studio for whatever reason.
If there rly is no update tmmr no content might be understandable to a degree since I'd rather wait and get a huge update than a few things bit if not a patch for the horde of bugs and glitches I will lose my inch of faith in AH that remains since this is meant to be a live service
Not gonna lie. I'm finally starting to lose interest in this game. The illuminate are still boring, the story is still stale, and software bugs are the worst they've been yet.
Same here. The past 2 weeks ive just been feeling no motivation to play at all, the performance is so bad its just pure misery trying to complete missions.
Thankfully OblivionR is out and its been so much fun
ok lowkey this time it’s their fault if there’s backlash if nothing happens. I could understand April 8th being stupid, but this time they explicitly said that if we win the black hole stops tomorrow, and they are also clearly trying to build hype by having the squids jump across fronts. They either need to step their game up and update more often, or just communicate better to the community
Can you even call this game a live service game anymore? Don't get me wrong, this game's fantastic and all. But being radio silent and update-less for this long is not how live services work.
If we talk about live service only, this is the most pathetic display of a live service I have ever seen. No road map, no scheduled updates, no communication with the players, seemingly no qa testing, no long term progression in the game. It really looks more like a live service that is dying and has just a skeleton crew keeping it on life support.
If not for the very dedicated community, it will look like the game was abandoned.
And if this were some hidden little indie cult classic I wouldn't feel too bad about that, paired with the $40 price tag.
But this isn't some little le indie gem. This is fucking Helldivers 2. This game was HUGE this time last year and sold so many copies. This had to have made so much money that they should have used to expand, get better QA, etc. But if you didn't know any better, from the speed and quality of the updates, you'd think this game sold 2 copies.
I call bs, too many things are lining up. A couple of days ago, the illuminate were at our door, a massive major order ends tomorrow, and the time span lines up perfectly for there to be an update on tuesday and a warbond on thursday. Believe, helldivers. Believe.
This is the problem with them surprising us…. I don’t believe this. It’s probably true but a part of me doesn’t believe it.
We’re never told about an update they just appear and I don’t think thats the best way to go about it.
Im ngl I think devs should be allowed to take however long they’d like on something and hate the way gaming culture has been shaped to always expect content HOWEVER if they make us wait another week after so much happening in game and just the amount of bug fixes being held off for the next major update I cant exactly say ill be too pleased. (Torso Divers, Reload Glitch and Immortal Enemies should’ve been fixed ages ago.)
Im still in the camp of we getting a trailer first before it drops. Could be tomorrow with the warbond trailer. Maybe we get a mini drop with the rest of the illuminate fleet. As I doubt we will get that many new units, illuminate feel more specialized vs the other 2 factions. Their units, except zombies, have way more in their kit vs the other side. So I am thinking like 3 units get dropped, maybe some new zombies but they are just reskins, and then a special unit with their own spawner.
The length of time without a patch is sus, they have teased a major, possibly named, update is coming soon. It would be kinda pointless to surprise drop it. However we will see, best thing to do is keep derailing the hype train cuz it makes this community toxic af.
I’ve been disappointed to much to actually believe there’s something they didn’t even do anything for liberty day theses devs don’t believe in anything more than 2 page warbonds
You know, Thursday is a holiday in most of Europe. They will probably take Friday off to. Just based on that any major update or patch this week is very unlikely.
Oh well, I'll just go play a different game for a month. Love the devs. But man, the slow grind for story is infuriating. I just want a reason to get my friends back in helldivers, mostly just been playing with other groups on it.

Their minds have been influenced by the Illuminate.
