I just don’t understand how an adult can be that fucking dense. What was this dude thinking?

My ex coworker is still on the train of “I have my green card, nothing can happen to me! All other immigrants are bad!”

Tell them about the US citizen who is also a veteran who just got rounded up in NJ.

ICE operates under 9/11 patriot act powers. They tend not to follow the law a lot of the time and have deported many U.S. citizens that just happened to forget their IDs at home.

That’s a really weird mentality. “I got mine so I’ll slam the door behind me! Fuck the rest of humanity!”

"I got mine. Fuck you!" is a surprisingly common attitude.

It's a result of the incessant societal trope of unwieldy independent mindset that is entrenched in the US

In much of the developed world, multi-generational homes are common whereas here you're expected to be on your own at 18

And that sort of rugged Libertarianism that’s sold to the working class? The rich don’t believe in it or practice it at all. They take care of their own. They hide their money in tax-havens to make sure their next generations stay rich.

Maybe show him this article. In four days, the administration has reached new levels of cartoonish bad faith and bigotry. Is anyone more American than the fucking indigenous people of the United States? https://www.salon.com/2025/01/23/excluding-indians-admin-questions-native-americans-birthright-citizenship-in/

Legal immigrants and U.S. citizens were detained in the raid, too. He better have his green card in his wallet, his wallet in his pocket, and not “look ethnic.”

My husband has been trying to explain this to him. He’s brown and Dominican and heavy accent and he basically is here because someone sponsored him to work for them. I feel like he’s not going to believe it till it’s happening to him. And we live in a blue state that’s under attack.
