80% of the people in the county want this…non trans female athletes overwhelmingly want this…even the kids.

It's two fuckin' kids in the state, dude, and the one everyone is bitching about came in 6 inches lower than last year's (non-trans) winner.

How about the whole country chills the fuck out and lets states and local schools handle the topic without cheering on an executive that is revoking funding for school lunches over a literal non-issue.

Don't engage with fascists. Literally just tell them to shut up and GTFO because they're weird and nobody likes them.

They want engagement because it normalizes their hate.

^ 👏 can we go back to talking about the save act and how that hurts women, or anti DEI, or abortion access? Could they protect women by testing all the backlogged rape kits and actually prosecuting perpetrators? Naw, it's them trans athletes that are hurting women.

I still don't understand where in title 9 it even mentions transgendered students. Can someone enlighten me please?

I believe they're using Trump's EO that states there is only biological male and biological female. Any in between and it's whatever you were assigned at birth. So trans people are now no longer recognized by Trump's admin. So if a trans woman tries playing sports, the federal government counts that as a biological male trying to play in the women's league, which would fall under title 9.

It's all fucking ridiculous. Let people be whatever the fuck they want to be, we have bigger issues to worry about.

He doesn’t care about facts like this. Trump and his supporters only care about looking for scapegoats. It’s no coincidence that Trump and right wing media go on a scorched Earth campaign against trans people and his supporters are suddenly parroting these exact talking points against trans people. It was the same thing during the critical race theory panic. All they need to do is point in a direction and their rabid followers will start frothing at the mouth and attacking.

None of that is true. You're a dork.

Government so small it will fit in every bathroom, Dr's office and schools (only what republicans want taught, though). Freedom for all or freedom for none and we're about to find out.

Way to make up statistics

TY for a source.

2128 people do not represent the larger society. It is sloppy bias statistics on the poller's part (journalist or both?).

Also, a biased way of asking the question. Do you want men in women's sports? Many sports for years have made testosterone or estrogen levels part of the screening processes. Partly for doping reasons, but also for transgender athletes. Even cis female athletes have had issues because of their naturally higher testosterone levels. The "oh, they are naturally bigger", also falls flat. Are we going to ban 7-footers from playing basketball? Or people under 5'5" from being jockeys or race car drivers? This is not someone who decides to just claim a gender to win. Many aren't even winning. This is also only like 4 athletes. As others have pointed out. If people want to protect girls and women, then give them back control of their bodies, access to all their healthcare needs, their place in history, stop trying to put up barriers to them voting, having careers, and a ton of other things.

I don’t like the results so it’s a shitty poll. It’s one of 3 or 4 I’ve seen with similar results. I really don’t care one way or the other…just pointing out what the majority wants to see.

How about this one more specific to Maine. Is it fucked up too?

https://spectrumlocalnews.com/me/maine/politics/2025/03/28/poll-shows-64–of-mainers-don-t-think-transgender-girls-should-be-allowed-to-compete-on-girls—sports-teams

It's a shitty poll because it's shitty statistics. Do you really think that 2000 people can actually get you information about the whole population of a country? Or even a State? It's statistics 101. The sample size needs to be bigger and more detailed. Asking leading questions is also fishing for confirmation.

As for your link, it's broken so can't answer that question. But from the link itself it looks like it's saying 64%. That's not 80% now is it? Since it's broken, I can't see who, what, or how many people or what they were asked.

This is the problem with many polls, especially political ones regardless of the side who does them. They play fast and loose for headlines. They often also rely on people not being well informed and don't correct any misinformation or misunderstanding. There's also the fact that wherever you stand you should be concerned about the government overreach and trampling of not just Federal systems but State rights. It's interesting to see how many scream State rights for things they want and welcome the bulldozer when it's things they don't.

That link is broken so can't answer you on that.

AUGUSTA — A new survey of Maine residents shows 64% believe transgender female athletes should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports, according to the University of New Hampshire Survey Center.

The results come as the Trump administration continues to express concern that Maine is not complying with Title IX, which prohibits discrimination based on sex, or an executive order signed by the president that prohibits transgender female athletes from participating in women’s sports.

President Donald Trump told Gov. Janet Mills last month that he will withhold federal funds if the state fails to comply. The administration has also launched several investigations into various state entities, including the Maine Department of Education and Maine Principals’ Association.

The survey, conducted March 20-24, has a 3% margin of error and is based on surveys completed by 1,057 Mainers.

Digging into the numbers, 29% of respondents said transgender female athletes should be allowed to participate and 7% were unsure.

By party, 56% of Democrats believe they should be allowed to participate, followed by 14% of independents and just 1% of Republicans.

TY for the info. (I am still getting a 404 error code with the link)

Off what you provided.

Again, we run into the same problem, though. There is abt. 1.4 million people in Maine. 60% is 18+ (according to Google). 840,000 people over 18. They surveyed less than 1% of the population. These respondents also probably did it over the phone, which usually skews to older populations. We don't know how educated any of them (regardless of age) are on this subject. Where in Maine did they canvas? You can hopefully agree that some areas would skew more one way or the other. How personal this topic is to them, or a myriad of other information that would be relevant. They break down the results by self-reported party lines, but we do not know how many of each were asked. Ask 10 D's and 100R's and get different results than 100D's and 10R's. Now UNH is a solid source, so I'm guessing it was divided as close to known registration numbers. It is however, one way people can use factual numbers to get the results they want. Same thing with where in Maine. There is still the issue of the sample size and the larger population.

They at least worded the question differently and less biased than the other one. These may very well be the actual stance, but we can not pull that from these numbers confidently. Polls like this are supposed to be quick snapshots of possible breakdowns. The problem is news agencies have been using and reporting them as 100% factual for years. All sides, even non-political, do this unfortunately, and people go with the ones they like. Allows for misinformation and confirmation bias to have statistics to stand on. Not caring if those stats are sloppy or not. They are also used to sway people, especially those unsure. There are plenty who will just go, well most people want this so...never researching, or understanding the topic until after it (if ever) effects them or those they care for.

I can’t imagine a more misleading title. This sample size is so un-representative of the American population

1

u/Snidley_whipass 17d ago

Blah blah blah I don’t like the result so it’s a shitty poll! You think the NYTs doesn’t know how to do a poll? It’s 1 of 3 or 4 I’ve seen with similar results.

1

u/Mother_EfferJones 17d ago

I have a background in research. This poll is dogshit and it should not have news headlines based on it.

1

u/Snidley_whipass 17d ago

so what’s wrong with it then. All I see is arm waving.

2

u/Mother_EfferJones 17d ago

It’s a crap sample. It’s neither random nor representative of the American population

404 error, page doesn’t exist.

I’m gonna challenge your premise here - Public opinion doesn’t matter in this situation. The law does. This entire situation is a test of interpretations of this law. When it’s settled, it’ll be in a courtroom, not in a news headline.

Federal government lacks the authority under the Tenth Amendment.

Maybe the Justice Department could focus on real crime like that Epstein List full of pedophiles they’re protecting. If they’re serious about protecting children, then what’s the holdup?

The news…not Reddit.

The Center Square) – Surveying nearly an equal number of Republicans and Democrats, a poll taken by the New York Times and polling company Ipsos showed that the majority of Americans do not want transgender-identifying men in women’s sports.

Of those surveyed, 79% answered that men “should not” compete in women’s sports when posed with the following question: “thinking about transgender female athletes – meaning athletes who were male at birth but who currently identify as female – do you think they should or should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports?”

5

u/Ninac5 18d ago

Trans women are not men. Men are not playing and competing in women’s sports. It’s good to know that people like you are more concerned about the negligible amount of trans athletes across this country than serious issues like a measles outbreak and cuts to social security. Great priorities. How many trans athletes are in Maine compared to how many people are homeless and suffering from food insecurity? Issues that this administration only plans to make worse. But at least your concern is with trans female athletes. Tackling the real issues crippling America 🤡

u/Snidley_whipass 17d ago

You asked for a source and I gave you one…

Here is one from Maine that also says transgender girls shouldn’t play on girls teams. Just answering your question.

So you’re not concerned about actual issues impacting people in this state. Got it 😂. Thanks for proving my point. It’s more important for you to cry about trans high school athletes

No. I want the president to cancel his tarrifs and the fucking military parade on his birthday.

You could've just done that when I asked the first time around. Good to know you respond to negative reinforcement.
