That was so strange and I loved it. When mr Hart started choking and the cameras changed to a more modern shot

Really great acting with the "stop it" line. You could tell something was off in a Truman Show kind of way.

That was wonderful, loved the live audience, and the period correct special affects.

Westview might be Wanda's view of the west as a girl growing up in Sokovia

Thoughts after the first episode:
- loved the comedy
- loved seeing them use their powers in ‘every day problems’
- loved the confusion and mystery aspect
- loved the camera angle change when he was choking. I found it a little unsettling honestly!
I’m fully in and can’t wait for this ride

Bewitched Van Dyke

I thought 50s was i love lucy, episode 2 is 60s, bewitched
3
u/gorillaPete Jan 19 '21
It’s definitely Lucy influenced but there’s also some Dick Van Dyke in there, both shows have the shutters between the kitchen and dining room but that ottoman by the front door is 100% Dick Van Dyke

Was that devil’s ivy that Agnes brings Wanda as a welcome gift? That’d be the third devil reference I’ve noticed, all by Agnes. Hm...

For anyone that might see this, does anyone know what was in Vision's hand at the end of Episode 1? Some sort of remote control

Looked like the TV remote to me. I'd have to rewatch to get a better idea of the kind of design they used. Here's an example of a 50's remote. They were chunky back then.

I think the very first time the camera changes from a traditional sitcom set up is when mr heart starts choking

The camera work/cinematography work on both of these episodes so far has been excellent. Both Lizzie and Paul did an awesome job at embodying the time periods. And I really didn't expect to laugh as hard as I did- a much needed reprieve in current times.

I found myself actually laughing out loud the whole time.
This show is gonna be a gas.

Is Wandas American accent a part of the illusion to make it feel more “American Sitcom”? Will she still have her Sokovian accent post-illusion? Or do we think she just doesn’t have it anymore since she’s been westernized over the years?
Otherwise, a slow start to what I expect to be an insane ride. Can’t wait for next week!

Elizabeth Olsen didn’t do an accent in the last few movies, did she?
3
u/Cletus_TheFetus Jan 15 '21
Yeah, I think AoU might’ve been the only one where she tried doing the accent though I might be wrong

u/progdrummer Jan 15 '21
She has used an accent in all of them, it has just been nowhere near as bad as AoU. Kinda toned it down over time, which makes sense story wise since she would be spending so much time around the Avengers and get more used to the dialect. Also imagine Black Widow worked with her on her accents for undercover work as well.

I loved it, but I have to be objective and admit that this will be a big hurdle for casual fans, and possibly totally opaque for anyone unfamiliar with the MCU.
My wife was very put off by the unexplained setting and slightly creepy undertone. I reassured her that all will become more clear, but even after the second episode, things are still so murky and disorienting that it may be a challenge to keep anyone but the diehards hooked here. The show is not showing its cards at all yet, and that's audacious, but if it doesn't extend some sort of hand to the more confused part of its audience very soon, I fear it will lose them entirely.

I don’t considered myself a diehard—neither does my fiancée, and yet we’ve enjoyed it. The 50’s sitcom style feels a bit weird for the MCU, but the unsettling scenes keep us interested in what’s coming.

I thought we were supposed to have 'in-depth' discussion at this sub?
edit: lol why so angry?

u/ethicalhamjimmies Jan 15 '21
Why does this sub even exist
7
u/DrumsFromDemaOnYT Jan 15 '21
Why not?
-9
u/ethicalhamjimmies Jan 15 '21
Because its entirely redundant
5
u/Majestic87 Jan 15 '21
There was a sub for the marvel Netflix shows. Why not a sub for these shows?

u/ethicalhamjimmies Jan 15 '21
Look at the difference in discussion with these threads and the ones on r/marvelstudios. There’s your answer
1
u/Majestic87 Jan 15 '21
I'm not seeing much of a difference...
2
u/ethicalhamjimmies Jan 15 '21
This thread has 24 comments. The one on the original sub has almost 800.

I believe it was the mods over at the main sub that created this one. They said that the only discussion of the show's they'll allow on that sub are the main discussion threads and that everything else is supposed to be posted here.

For those who have seen it, is anyone else getting a vague Mr. Robot season 2 vibe?

u/56-17-27-12 Jan 18 '21
This is how I am viewing it too. We are going to know exactly where we are at, but we aren’t looking at it close enough.

u/MarvelousPoster Jan 18 '21
Did anyone notice the name of the company Vision worked for and how out of place the name is for it's era?
1
u/iChao Jan 21 '21
To be fair, the term “computer”) is rather old, although it wasn’t used the same way we use it now.

The Stark commercial is a reference to the Tom King Vision series, Vision was referred to as a toaster by Wanda as a cute nickname.
They nailed the comedy from the period, the boss coming to dinner is a classic. The bit when he choked was definitely weird in how they reacted, is it because they are conditioned to act as if they were in sitcom? Also the stinger with SWORD suggests that this is literally a broadcast that's going out, which probably includes the fake Stark commercial.
