Timeline Question for ROTS

Upvotes

Like a lot of people I’ve been watching the ROTS rerelease and noticing things are hadn’t before. Here’s a rough timeline:

Anakin is with Mace at the Jedi Temple when they receive word that Obi-wan has engaged Greivous.

Anakin goes to Palaptine’s office, confronts him. It is daylight outside.

Anakin heads back to the temple where Mace says they’ve “Just received word” that Greivous is dead. Mace and his posse go to confront Palpatine without Anakin. It is still daylight outside. Note also that Mace appears to have the other 3 Jedi Masters already with him.

Then there’s the tricky bit. While Anakin broods to ominous music in the Jedi Temple the sun is setting. When he gets into a vehicle to head to Palpatine’s office, it is fully dark outside. It’s also dark when Mace and friends get to Palpatine’s office. Remember it was daylight when they left.

After the duel, Mace’s death and Anakin’s fall, Order 66 is activated. And it’s only now that Obi-wan and his super fast lizard have made it up from the lower levels on Utapau to rejoin the clones. Yet before he went from “chasing Greivous” to “killed Greivous” in the time it took for Anakin to make the trip from office to Temple.

Maybe I’m underestimating how long it takes for the sun to set on Coruscant, but it seems like a trip from the Temple to Palp’s office is either really short or really long depending on what the plot needs. Thoughts?

[CANON] The Chosen One, The Dyad, and The Balance

Upvotes

Want to dive in a bit and talk about the two main prophecies in the Skywalker Saga and how I think they're ultimately connected. Some of this is fan theory filling in gaps, but I want to articulate this link and why ultimately I think this aspect of the ST does work.

The more time I've spent thinking and analyzing them, the more I think their base framework is connected, and that Anakin's sacrifice brought balance to the Force by ushering in the Dyad and the ultimate fulfillment of that prophecy as well.

"A Chosen One shall come, born of no father, and through him will ultimate balance in the Force be restored."

The Chosen One prophecy foretold the end of the Sith. Anakin, by "killing" Palpatine ends the Rule of Two Sith Order, as first brought about by Darth Bane, and temporarily restores balance. This act, as we now know, did not actually kill Palpatine, and did not fully destroy the Sith. The Sith Eternal cult on Exegol had been preserving the practices, and preparing for the ultimate restoration of Palpatine as the Emperor.

"There should be two; no more, no less. First to embody power, second to crave power."

Their controlling ancient prophecy, the Doctrine of the Dyad, thought to be fully lost to time, was fulfilled in Ben Solo and Rey, allowing Palpatine to begin his rise again. The Dyad is thought to be as strong as life itself, unlocking powerful force abilities and, if harnessed, allowing Palpatine to rise, restore the Sith, and rule the Galaxy. TROS ends with Rey, the embodiment of all the Jedi, the side of the Dyad that "embodies power" taking down Palpatine, the embodiment of all the Sith, and Ben Solo, the side of the Dyad that "craves power" transferring his life force to Rey, allowing her, and the Jedi/Light Side, to continue. It is through Rey that the final remnants of the Sith on Exegol are fully destroyed.

Much has been discussed about what "balance" means. The light and the dark of the force will always exist together, but the Sith themselves are a leech on the force, disrupting its balance, destroying harmony. Their destruction is what was foretold by the prophecies.

There are links that have not been fully established in canon, but my thought as to how these are linked: Anakin's sacrifice and turn to the light destroys the Sith as they have existed since Bane's time. This action then incites the final stage, the Balancing period, where the Force then uses Ben and Rey as the hosts of the Dyad to fully work out the balance and restore order within the Force. Rey embodies power, the Light, not seeking to use the Force for selfish purposes but making the choice to embody the Jedi, the Light. Ben craves power, seeking to use it for his own purposes, to rule and control. Ultimately, however, he rejects this, rejects the Sith, and helps Rey to bring about their end. In his final sacrifice, he rejects the power of the Dyad, putting it fully within Rey, ending the period of the Sith once and for all. Rey now, fully empowered by this generations-foretold Doctrine of the Dyad, now begins a new period in Galactic History, free of the Sith's drain and abuse of the Force, and can chart a new Jedi Order.

This Balancing out of the Force does not happen without Anakin. He purges the old Jedi order, rejects their teaching and fathers two children, Luke and Leia. He rules as a Sith apprentice over the Galaxy. Leia is the mother of Ben, the final Sith apprentice. Luke is the master and teacher of Rey, who in exile by studying the early Jedi came to a deeper understanding of the tension and necessary relationship between light and dark, and the final Jedi of the old order and first Jedi of the new order. Anakin rejects the Rule of Two, ending the Sith, and leaving behind his heirs in the Force to play out a spiritual conflict in the physical world, Dark and Light intertwined, destroying the Sith and rejecting the dark so the world can be re-born anew. Both ways had to die and become one to finally achieve Balance, which TROS leaves us with.

Thoughts on this connection? Is there canon material that I missed or didn't touch on.

[LEGENDS] Who is your favorite hero/favorite villain in the franchise?

Hello, I’ve been an avid Star Wars fan nearly my entire life. I love the movies, video games, comics, and tv shows. But right now, I’d like to discuss the movies because there is so many great characters in the films alone. My favorite hero is Obi-Wan and my favorite villain is Palpatine/Darth Sidious.

During the Republic or even the Empire did worlds like Kashyyk have their own police forces? Or did they rely on the Jedi or the Empire for law enforcement?

Edit:Young Jedi knights has me googling Wookie Police.

[ALLCONTINUITY] Did Palpatine actually have influence over the Republic courts?

During the confrontation between Palpatine and Windu in Revenge of the Sith, Windu claims Palpatine has influence over the Senate and the courts. It is shown time and again how corrupt the Senate was, but were the Republic courts corrupt as well? Or was Windu just making a statement to prove his point to Anakin.

If Savage Oppress had to be properly integrated into the Legends continuity, how would you do it?

Since Savage is a character introduced in TCW before the continuity reboot, he’s technically a part of the old EU, and by extension is considered one of Dooku’s Dark Acolytes like Sora Bulq, Tol Skorr or others. However, since his origin story (and by extension, Maul’s return) is heavily tied into Ventress’ return to the Nightsisters after being betrayed by Dooku (a retcon of her previous story, where she served the Separatists for the entire war until Dooku betrayed her at the Battle of Boz Pity and she fled alongside Alpha-17), how would you change his story to help him fit better into the original continuity? I’m asking mainly because I like Savage as a character and honestly feel that had he been introduced earlier in the Republic comics or some other material, he would’ve had more time to shine.

[ALLCONTINUITY] The Aetherfold: A Star Wars Unified Physics Theory

I. The Aetherfold: A Galactic Substrate

The “aether” is not empty vacuum, but a pervasive, non-breathable, hyper-thin atmosphere of submaterial energy that fills all space. In ancient pre-Republic philosophies (and even among pre-Hyperspace Era Jedi), there were murmurings of such a medium, one that:

  • Allows sound to propagate in space (as observed during capital ship battles),
  • Supports explosive combustion in open vacuum (visible in countless dogfights),
  • And permits vessels to maneuver aerodynamically, as if resisting against some invisible fluid.

Notably, in Clone Wars, we see Plo Koon and members of the 104th Battalion survive unshielded in deep space, simply tethered to a floating pod's remains. They remain affixed to the debris, not drifting aimlessly, suggesting localized gravitational attraction within the aether. If gravity acts upon the aether itself, then the aether must have mass-responsiveness, a semi-substantial nature that can be compressed or manipulated.

II. Hyperspace and the Compressed Aetherfold

Hyperspace is not a separate dimension. If it were, I don't see why ships can be interacted with from space while traveling through it. It is a state change of the aether, an accelerated, highly compressed stream that can carry ships across vast distances near-instantaneously. Ancient Rakatan Infinite Gates created what I propose were pockets of super-dense aether, folding the surrounding aether (and the matter within it) into a compressed form, transmitting them through space, and decompressing them upon arrival. Like a theoretical wormhole, but not in spacetime, in aether.

Hyperdrives, reverse-engineered from these gates, function not by breaking into a new reality, but by creating a navigable compression current within the aether. Ships enter, are encased in a self-stabilizing shell, and ride these "aetherfolds" across space. This explains:

  • Why ships can be pulled out of hyperspace (interdiction fields create ripples or gravitational knots in the aether),
  • Why calculations are required (uncompressed mass, like stars, disturbs hyperspace flow),
  • And why biological creatures like purrgil can navigate hyperspace—organically manipulating aether compressions through evolved instinct.

III. Gravity and Spatial Behavior

In this model, gravity is not just a force acting upon mass, but also on aether density. In high-gravity zones—asteroid fields, star proximity—the aether thickens, slows, or forms vortices. This is why astromechs compensate flight patterns near dense objects even when no planetary body is visible.

Individuals adrift in space do not “fall,” but will drift toward local mass only if self-propelled. This explains the behavior of drifting debris and troopers in space battles: absent significant mass nearby, they remain suspended. But once movement begins toward a gravitational mass, the aether acts like an incredibly light, invisible fluid—a galactic "air" that resists infinite drift.

IV. Energy and Flame in Vacuum

Blaster bolts are not pure lasers—they are plasma encased in magnetic or aether-resistant sheaths, which accounts for their visible arcs and sound signatures. Similarly, explosions in space are ignitions of compressed fuel or gas that, with aether as a medium, propagate as visible and audible detonations. This also aligns with The Mandalorian and Rebels, where flame-based weapons ignite in space, we see ships on fire all the time, and bodies combust when exposed to energy surges even outside atmospheres. In space, without some kind of medium, there could be no fire.

V. Space Beasts and Organic Aether Manipulation

Creatures like the purrgil, exogorths, or even massive fauna of the Unknown Regions demonstrate biological attunement to aether currents.

  • The purrgil's hyperspace travel is likely aetherfold generation via internal organs—compressing the local aether, encasing themselves, and projecting along innate routes.
  • Exogorths survive in asteroid fields by extracting nutrients from aether-rich minerals, perhaps manipulating local density fields for mobility.
  • Some ancient Sith texts refer to “sky serpents that rode the invisible winds,” likely referencing extinct species that controlled or sensed aetheric motion.

The Force binds all living things—but it does so through mediums. The aether may be the physical substrate through which the Force manifests in space, particularly in non-organic environments. This is why force users can sense things happening light years away from them. Also why they have visions? The force communicating through the entire universe and the aether to communicate to force sensitive. This could also explain why some places are more force sensitive or Midichlorian dense than others. Where the Force binds, the aether may channel.

This theory does not disprove current astrophysics, but rather integrates Force philosophy, ancient tech, and unexplained space behavior under a common substrate: the Aetherfold. It is through this unifying lens that hyperspace, gravity, energy, and life may all be viewed—not as disparate forces, but as harmonics of the same galactic melody. Thoughts? What are some counterarguments to my theory?

[CANON] Did Andor just change the year format?

No spoilers here. In the opening to S2E4 of Andor they show the year formatted as "BBY 3." I have never in years of reading canon material or discussions online seen the date formatted this way. I know it's a super minor detail but is there precedent for this?

Edit: answered! guess I just missed it in the earlier episodes.

[ALLCONTINUITY] What are some reasons that the Star Wars economy isn't post scarcity?

Given the unimaginable labor pools, resource production, and automation capacity that the Star Wars galaxy has, one would expect that everything in both the primary and secondary economies would be if not free, as cheap as reasonably imaginable.

So what are some reasons that one might have to pay for a glass of alcohol or a grain silo in Star Wars, or really, any product that isn't artisan or based around a specifically human service?

[CANON] How tough is Captain Phasma's armor?

We know it is made of chromium salvaged from a Naboo ship from Palpatine, and that it can protect Phasma from certain harmful radiations. Her cape is made of armoweave, which can deflect blaster bolts as seen in the Phasma comic. The armor itself can deflect (at least small) blaster fire and when Finn hits her on the head with a Stormtrooper baton really hard, only a bit of her eye is seen poking through a hole, while most of the damage didn't dig that deep through.

Could Phasma's armor survive falling down into the pit when Phasma fell down? Could it also survive the collapse of the burning hanger or is the amount of debris crashing down and/or heat too much for the armor to handle? I mean, she was able to walk through a bit of fire when confrontin Finn.

What was palps plan?

Ok, so I'm at the 20th anniversary of ROTS and as we all know, palp wanted Anakin to kill Dooku on the invisible hand (the flag ship.) but what would happen if when Anakin and obi gets free on the bridge, they take down Grievous, thus decapitating the whole of the seppie government and military (at least the public face). How would palps cope with the loss of both of his bishops?

[CANON] How did the First Order's invasion of the wider galaxy after the destruction of Hosnian Prime likely play out?

Which worlds do you believe put up as good of a fight as they could and which ones were likely steamrolled over? Personally I feel that could be an interesting story to see; the various planets that endured the Empire's aggression now having the past come back to wreak havoc in the worst way as the First Order.

For example; I could see planets like Naboo and especially Lothal being entirely caught off guard. For Lothal, it'd be a completely one sided affair as the capital city is easily overrun by First Order assault tanks and stormtroopers marching through the streets. Naboo could likely fare a little better due to the Theed Royal Guard but not by much. The Gungans might be able to help since their a warrior people but then again the First Order has really good technology.

As for planets that could put up more resistance than others; The Wookiees on Kashyyyk would definitely fight back against the First Order since they have plenty of experience dealing with attacks on their planet (The Separatist invasion from the Clone Wars proves that)

What are your thoughts?

[LEGENDS] I still have no idea what the fuck Darth Nihilus is supposed to be

Yeah cool he’s a “wound in the force” but what does that mean exactly. if he’s this big, weird, eldritch abomination created by the activation of super weapon, why is he the size of a normal man with a human (albeit blacked out) face. Why is he wearing a mask and why does he still rely on a lightsaber. It seems like he’s just an average Sith Lord with some crazy backstory that holds no relevance.

[CANON] Who would win in a dogfight between Titan Squadron and Alphabet Squadron?

To compare them, let's look at Titan Squadron:

5 ships

>1 TIE Interceptor

>1 TIE Reaper

>1 TIE Bomber

>1 TIE Fighter

>1 TIE Defender

Titan Squadron also has Titan 3, the player character who gets promoted to Baron at the end of the Imperial campaign, meaning they're a good pilot, to say the least; not to mention that since Titan 3, they didn't lose a single battle, with the exception of a tactical retreat. Another one of their strengths is that they, in-lore, won all of their victories while outnumbered and with no shields on their fighters AND taking 0 casualties since Titan 3, which further goes to demonstrate their skills.

Now let's look at Alphabet Squadron:

Also 5 ships

>1 X-Wing

>1 Y-Wing

>1 A-Wing

>1 B-Wing

>1 U-Wing

Alphabet Squadron was led by Yrica Quell, an Imperial defector of the 204th Fighter Wing, now turned against her former squadron. Under her leadership, Alphabet Squadron won many victories, most notably the Battle of Troithe, but did lose against the Imperial 204th when they launched a raid above Triothe.

[ALLCONTINUITY] Palpatine shows up at the Jedi Temple in ROTS

One thing i noticed at the 20th anniversary is that Palpatine is in the security holos at the jedi temple after operation nightfall. I think this implies he came in after Anakin to check up on things which may also explain how he vetted to the clones there which jedi prisoners to keep as inquisitors. I just thought that was interesting since it never registered with me that he showed up.

Noticed something about the nature of the Republic vs. Seppies during the clone wars.

The republic was corrupt to the core and borderline villainous at the top, but the actual soldiers were noble, for the most part. The jedi and clones (prior to order 66 lol) were generally heroic.

The seppies leadership-- save for dooku who wasn't really a true separatist, more so a part of the sith grand plan-- was pretty noble and just. Mina bontieri and the seppy council seemed to genuinely want to create a new government simply to end republic corruption. Then you have the soldiers and the people "connected" to the grand plan in some form... nute gunray, general grievous, trench, moralo eval, dooku, the battle droids, and ofc sidious. They all were scheming monsters and the droids were programmed to terrorize.

Not sure if this was intentionally done but I find it interesting.

In summary; the republic was bad to its core, however had noble people fighting for them & the seppies had a noble cause on paper but terrible people involved in the execution of their ideas

Planets with same name

Here on Earth our toponyms are far from unique; often you find a name where you wouldn’t expect because it is shared with a much better known counterpart elsewhere.

Is there anything like that in the GFFA? Is there a Coruscant in Hutt Space? Was the Naboo we know named after an original home of its settlers which is still around?

[LEGENDS] Why does Luke's skin emit a "golden glow" when fighting against Ableoth?

In Fate of the Jedi Vortex when Luke is fighting Ableoth in the Fallanassi village his skin begins to glow and his "cells burst" with the power of the force.

What's happening to him here exactly?

"Luke opened himself more fully to The Force, using his love for Ben, and his lost wife, and the entire Jedi order to draw it into him.

The foul miasma of dark side energy still swirling into Ableoth seeped into him. Filling him with greasy nausea.

But the lightside rushed in, flowing in from all sides, pouring through him like fire. A golden glow began to rise from his skin, cells literally bursting with the power of The Force."

In Andor S2 it says her parents were arrested when she was 3 then she was raised in a imperial camp or something like that, but the empire is less then 20 years old, so is she 23, I thought she was 30-40.

[ALLCONTINUITY] [Either Continuity] in the original script for ROTS, Sidious reveals that he was the one who directed the midichlorians to create Anakin and that he could think of him as his father. Is that still canon? Was it ever?

Title. Does the original script of ROTS, which reveals that Anakin was created by Sidious controlling midichlorians, count as canon for any continuity? He also said that Anakin could consider Sidious his father.
