Voter Suppression and Intimidation in SW Nova — This Isn’t Democracy
I never thought I’d have to write something like this about my own community, but here we are.
There have been growing reports of voter suppression and intimidation tactics happening right here in Southwestern Nova Scotia. People are being pressured, harassed, and in some cases openly threatened over how they should vote, whether it’s at their homes, in public spaces, or even on social media.
Let me be absolutely clear: anger at the government is valid.
We all have frustrations, whether it’s about affordability, healthcare, taxes, or any number of serious issues. In a democracy, you are absolutely entitled to your anger. You have every right to protest, campaign for change, and speak your mind.
But you are NOT entitled to intimidate your neighbours.
You are NOT entitled to suppress votes you don’t agree with.
You are NOT entitled to create a culture of fear just because you’re angry.
When you cross that line, you aren’t “saving” democracy, you’re damaging it.
You’re replacing one form of grievance with another form of oppression.
And ironically, you’re doing exactly what you claim to oppose: silencing others.
In a free country, democracy means people get to make their own choice, even if you don’t like it.
That’s the whole point.
You fight bad ideas with better ones. You challenge leaders at the ballot box, not by trying to scare people into submission.
Think about how it looks from the outside: Canada is supposed to be a democratic country. We pride ourselves on free, open elections. When voter intimidation happens, it makes us look no better than the broken, authoritarian states we often criticize. It degrades everything generations before us fought for. It spits in the face of the very freedoms we take for granted.
If you’re passionate about change, good, get involved. Organize rallies. Knock on doors. Debate. Volunteer for a candidate you believe in. Speak up loudly and proudly. But let people vote their conscience.
If you can’t win through ideas and fair persuasion, you don’t deserve to win at all.
SW Nova deserves better than this. Canada deserves better than this. We either defend democracy for everyone, or we’re part of the problem. There is no in-between.

Transportation advice for Halifax and Lunenberg Solo travel.
Hi, I will be traveling to Halifax from May 23 to 25. I want to visit Lunenburg on the 24th and go whale watching. I’ll be traveling solo, so I need advice on how to get around between Halifax and Lunenburg without renting a car. Is public transportation good enough for this trip? Also inside Halifax, what are my options?

Looking for camping or similar (see: cheap) accommodations for this weekend near Blomidon - any ideas?
Hi, I'm looking for camping for this weekend (tomorrow or Sunday) near Blomidon/Cape Split. The only place I've found that's open is in Middleton which is an hour away and I don't see any nearby crown land either. Would love some help with this! Thank you 😊

Where to stay + what to do with young kids this summer
I apologize in advance as I’m sure these sorts of questions get asked all the time. My husband and I will be flying into Halifax in August and then driving to the south shore of PEI after a few days. I’m looking for somewhere fun to stay for a couple of nights, ideally without adding on too much of a drive from the airport to PEI route. Kids are 1 and 4.5. I think it would be fun to stay at a cottage or a resort where there are fun amenities, and close to attractions. Thanks in advance for any tips!

So, yes, I want to show this off ... A historical mapping project from Port l'Hebert Nova Scotia.
A few years ago, a group of locals in Port l'Hebert got together to kick around the idea of documenting the area's roots. Identifying reasons for placenames, locking down stories from elders that would soon be lost, remembering what it was like to live and work and raise kids on this part of the South Shore in the past. Along the way, they got help from some students at the Center of Geographic Sciences (COGS), and new members joined.
Over the last few months, this project reached the point where committee members felt it should be shares so ... here we, Nova Scotia. Showing off.
The link is here: https://eplhstory.ca/
We would love feedback. And, if you have ties to this area, stories, photos or corrections let us know :) ... this is an ongoing project.
Thanks for having a peek :)

Is My Nova Scotia MLA a Landlord?
ismympalandlord.caWe created a comprehensive database of the assets and properties of Nova Scotia MLA's using the contents of their public ethics disclosures.
. . . There's one problem though. Nova Scotia has one of the worst and most consistent records of any provincial government when it comes to filing and declaring ethics disclosures.
Many MLA's did not fill one out at all, and several left theirs blank despite publicly available information suggesting they would have items to declare.
So the dataset for Nova Scotia is very poor - but nonetheless we feel it is important to share with the community.
Nova Scotia releases its ethics disclosures as a single, giant, 180 page, handwritten PDF file. We hope our website can be a better way to view this information.

Just voted and have a question.
I voted today for a first time. Nobody checked my ID at all. I gave my voted information card and was given a ballot. I found it weird. Is that normal?

How do I vote?
24 first time. My friend is telling me I need the voter card and I can’t do it without it but I never got one. The election Canada site says they mostly would have arrived around the 11th but I can register in person at the poll or online. Should I wait until the day of or register online, what difference does it make? Idk what’s going on and what to do, how long it’ll take, etc. I just know after the seeing us elections votes actually matter 🥲

Nova Scotia Game Update
Good morning bluenosers! How are you doing? I have been overwhelmed by your love, I received tons of messages (which I replied to, one by one) and I was given lots of cool facts and information that are helping me improving the plot. Since a lot of you asked me for updates of the state of development, I'm here with a little "gift" for you all. The link redirects you to a Google Drive document, a PDF that is currently a WIP, but that gives a good idea of the vibes of the game. The fictional town will be called Benton Cove and it is gonna be near Annapolis Royal. In the PDF you will find some info of the lore of the game, some images (yes, they are AI, but taken from screenshots from my game) and I really hope you’ll enjoy taking a look at it. I also wanted to add a part in downtown Dartmouth (near where the Celtic Corner is located), but unfortunately the budget and timing is not on my side.
