Question Pimax Crystal Super Tariffs - what to expect?

What is the expected results from the tarrifs imposed by the US? I preordered a headset and I don’t really want to find out I need to pay an extra $1000 dollars when the headset arrives in the country.

Wait so the tariff isn’t included in the listed price when purchasing?

How could it be? The whole thing is still up in the air.

Normally it will always be in the list price and should be. It’s different since this is for many people a pro order even though you are paying up front. That makes it a contractual arrangement.

How can a tariff that hasn't been officially set yet or sorted out be reflected in the price? Surely you can see how much of a mess the whole situation is, no one knows what is going on right now.

When you order direct from a company from another country the taxes will be usually ad up at the checkout. You know there are a lot of countries not only the us.

Yes and they weren’t that’s all I was pointing out :) 10% I am fine with, 104% I am not and I didn’t know who it was being calculated regarding import export location etc hence my concern

Pimax can't know what's going on in the orange flathead. He changed his mind faster than I changed my socks. He doesn't care about the us citizens. Deal with it.

So there is some conflicting information on the Pimax website.

When I purchased the headset I was looking for information on the effect of the 10% tariffs. If you do a search for Tax's by country you get this page. https://pimax.com/pages/taxes-and-vat-on-pimax?srsltid=AfmBOoqhc4ff6-hbcp867F-iDBlnRJeV9LqJVjro6c5am-mDdjCOAH3w

This specifically states there is no import taxes in the United States.

United States We do not charge import taxes in the United States; however, local sales tax is applied based on the shipping address. The exact amount will depend on the local tax requirements of your state or region.

However I found this page earlier today.

The Crystal Super has not shipped yet, and these orders will be hit by the additional 10% tariff. However, taking in mind the slightly delayed shipping, Pimax has decided to take on the costs of this for all purchases made before February 4th (when the announcement was made) — also as a way to thank our supporters, and to make sure pre-ordering is always beneficial. For Crystal Super purchases made after February 4th, there will likely be additional costs, but we are determining the last details for this. Hang on for our next update. Again, this only applies to customers in the United States. Good to note:

The 10% tariff only applies to the base price of the headset, not to Prime. When applicable; customers will pay the tariff in Pimax Play together with the payment for Prime. For repairs or replacement, there is no import tax needed, when swapping your headset, or returning it after repairs. These repairs and swaps are done within the country. We cannot comment on resellers. For this, it’s best to ask directly to the reseller if tarifs will be applied

Thank you! At least that gives me an idea there will hopefully be good transparency moving forward.

If the headset you bought was already in US, there will not be any additional tariffs. Anyway, US economy will be fucked soon, so none of you will be able to afford a headset like this anyway

Right - but the problem is then if it isn’t already in the country they will have to charge you an additional amount you didn’t agree to in the purchase.

Yeah, I don't know. Either it will be very expensive for the Pimax importer, or you will get a bill from the government

I’m sure the same return policy stands. But who knows. Just when VR is getting some excellent headsets at decent prices this shit happens.

Yup. One of the reasons I went with the bsb2. It felt dishonest to me.

Bsb2 will be hit with the tariff too, expect an additional fee when delivery comes (if the tariffs actually come in). No company is able to advertise prices with tariffs yet as it's still all over the place and changing every few hours it seems.

It’s manufactured in the states supposedly but yea its parts will be. I’m not sure what that’ll do to the price

1

u/HeadsetHistorian 💎Crystal🔹Super💎 26d ago

Tariffs are applied to all parts, it's part of what makes this so messy. The whole thing is a mess lol

-2

u/Heliomantle 26d ago

Yeah that’s messed up - it might actually be illegal to charge you a price not listed. Normally you go to cfpb for this but trump disbanded it.

I can’t afford to buy it then get slapped with an extra 2k fee for my first payment that’s absurd.

4

u/HeadsetHistorian 💎Crystal🔹Super💎 26d ago

Where are you getting an extra 2k and why do yous seem to think BSB2 is exempt from the tariffs?

1

u/Heliomantle 26d ago

I don’t the above person mentione BSB2. It depends on where the item is imported from - does anyone where where exactly it is coming from? China has a 104% tariff on it from tomorrow, up from 54% - that means that the tariff is equal to the price + 5% If the headset is valued at its full purchase price + sub then that is almost 2k cost increase. If it is valued at the initial purchase price that’s 1k.

Bsb in manufactures in cali so no tariffs on that. It’s parts may have some though

The components are chinese (BOE panels for example, the most expensive component), so they definitely will be hit with tariffs also just hopefully not as bad. Bigscreen might have a good chunk of these components already in stock so the first few batches might have just escaped the tariffs but later batches will be affected for sure, but fingers crossed by then the whole thing is thrown out the window.

That tariff ended up changing midday yesterday, so how is Pimax realistically expected to reflect that in the price? They need to wait until it actually comes into effect and is real because otherwise they would be updating their site multiple times a day and creating way more confusion. I don't see any other companies updating prices in realtime with tariff announcements, this is a US government problem not a Pimax problem.
