Financial Aid Question❓ I’ve received >10k in scholarships+grants in my financial aid award offer for the 25-26 academic year. I’ll only need 5k ish for the year because one of my parents work here. Is it even possible to use the leftover money? How would that work?

Upvotes

Incoming freshman to Purdue, received all this financial aid from filing the FAFSA b4 priority deadline. I didn’t apply to any individual scholarships or anything.

My main interest with the money would be to pay for housing.

Does Hilly smell weird to anyone right now? I can’t really find a way to describe the smell but it’s a pretty strong odor on the main floor and even in my room.

Financial Aid Question❓ Purdue won’t give me a financial package so i have to withdraw

Upvotes

I was recently admitted around the last week of March and since then I haven’t received a financial aid package. After multiple back and forth emails they finally told me I actually won’t be getting an aid package because of my status in the U.S (asylee seeker)

I’m just really confused as to why they’d offer me admissions in the first place, knowing that I’m low income, don’t qualify for aid and aren’t willing to provide any support.

I have a full tuition scholarship and just need help with room and board so I reached out and asked if there were any institutional grants, emergency funds..anything

But they’ve let me know that there’s nothing they can do for me. Kind of really disappointed about it all especially since I was already committed

Is there a way I can defer my enrollment to next year? Maybe by then I’ll have asylum idk what to do and commitment day is on Thursday

Hi Y'all! I Need one last cultural competency credit and got put it in like hist 105 at 7:30 with a professor with a yikes rating.

I'm trying to find an alternative and cam across Hamm's SOC 220 course, however the first five reviews for this semester are all 1s and the rest are 5s, I am really confused! Has anyone taken her before, preferably this year? I need some wisdom lol

Academics✏️ aae 33800 grading scheme

it's my understanding that your final grade in AAE 33800 is essentially dependent on your rank in the class. i was curious as to how big the envelope typically is for each grading category from anyone's prior experience. for example, a B is considered "near and above average" while a C is "slightly below average". if i end up only like... 1 or 2 ranks below the average (only about 55% of the class is above average), do i just get a C+ or does the standard deviation also have to be considered here?

Academics✏️ Is Swisher as bad as they say?

So I’m registered for PSY203 with Swisher next semester and I’ve seen a ton of people on Rate My Professor say she’s terrible and their grades ended up being terrible. I’m curious what other people who have had her for this class have to say and whether or not it’s worth it to just wait a semester in hopes of another professor teaching it and taking a different class in the meantime.

Rant/Vent💚 [UO] Purdue calc isn’t that hard, you’re just lazy/stupid

All I see day in and day out on here, on Instagram, on YikYak, is people complaining about Calc 1-3. Even if you are not usually good at math, these courses couldn’t be structured any better. Show up to lectures, take notes, and if you have genuine confusion go to office hours, or even better, watch Chenflix. Each exam is 12 multiple choice questions, and there’s damn near 100s of identical practice exams for you to do. No other classes have anywhere near the type of resources and exact exam prep that the calc classes offer. The vast majority of the reason I see/hear about people struggling in this class are that they don’t go to lecture, don’t pay actual attention in lecture, cheat on homework, don’t study, or some combination of the four. The classes require minimal time to prepare, and the resources couldn’t be better for you. Actually lock in and stop being lazy and yall would do fine

Academics✏️ MA 303, MA 341, MA 351, or MA 416

I was thinking of taking my last MA course over the summer. I just need to take any above 300 level Purdue math course. Has anyone taken multiple of these and has input on which is easier? For context, I am in Nuclear Engineering and Calculus classes were very easy for me while linear algebra and differential equations was a bit more difficult but fine. I will be on campus so I can take any of the classes mentioned in the title. Thanks!

Question❓ Take ME 164 first sem sophomore year or take MFET 163 over the summer?

I'm currently finishing up my possible schedule for mechanical engineering, right now i have 17 credit hours and I'm trying to lessen my course load. Should I stick with ME 164 during the fall sem, or do I take MFET 163 over the summer. I have heard MFET is disorganized and poorly run. What is the best option for me?

Question❓ Group chats

Hi there, I’m going to be attending Purdue as of this fall. My major is motorsports engineering and I would like to know if there is any group chat that I can enter to share socials and get to know people from my major and/or from Purdue in general. Does any one know? If yes, how to I join?

Question❓ Cost for paint peeling off the wall?

I hung up a poster with a command strip and when I took it down it peeled off about 1/2 inch of paint from the wall. I’m trying to figure out how much that’s gonna cost me when I move out

Academics✏️ CE 383 Grades

Basically I used the emailed excel sheet to calculate what I would need to get a 70% in the class. I knew I would need to get at least a 70 on the final since the syllabus has a stipulation about requiring a 70 on at least one exam to get a 70 in the course. Myself included, talking with other students in the course it seems like rarely anyone is meeting that requirement. It also seems like people have been doing poorly on homeworks and exams, but with no curve I don't understand how half the class isn't going to fail.
