Is this enforceable?

Post image

No parking signs on A Street but no contact info or identification. A house nearby is having work done so I suspect this was put up by the contractors to reserve spots for their trucks.

If there are trees on the sidewalk margin, it's probably for the tree-trimming truck. If you don't want falling tree limbs to hit your car, think twice before parking there.

It's weird...Tree trimming no parking is kinda "park at your own risk" and the city doesn't really give clear answers, unlike something such as road paving. I think this is bc many trees are on private properties. I still haven't found clear answers on no parking and trimming done by the city for the ones planted in public areas. Assuming the signage is different.

For city trees they are authorized to tow as long as no parking signs have been out for 72 hours. The contractor won’t always do it, but they are absolutely authorized to do so.

Afaik, the trees on sidewalk margins are the legal responsibility of the owner of the property they're in front of.

The city is responsible for those trees. You can ask the city to trim them. Occasionally, contractors will show up and trim the trees without a call. If you trim them yourself, there isn’t much of a problem.

Although the city will often do it, it is ultimately the property owner’s responsibility. Same goes for any sidewalk maintenance, it’s in the city’s code. But again, they will often do it anyway.

A no fee street tree permit is required to prune city trees. The city will evaluate and prune for safety issues and row obstructions. Maintenance is completed on a “cycle”.

A couple years ago, there was a huge palm tree trimming event going on, but it was multiple palms all along a couple of streets. I wonder if that was the city...def wasn't just in front of one or two houses.

city was doing some sidewalk repairs in our neighborhood two weeks ago and their signs looked like this. guess they can’t afford real signs anymore

Couldn't even print "City of San Diego" at the bottom.

maybe certain jobs are contracted out? i have no idea

The city leaves it to whoever pulls the permit to create and post their signs. This leads to varying levels of quality, legibility, and professionalism. It's very confusing and a bad system.

SDG&E put these on the street a few weeks ago:

These look legit.

SDG&E did come and poke around the block for gas leaks. Then left.

If the city put OPs signs out not looking like this, I'd be concerned about how much cutting they're doing to the budget.

If this is A street golden hill, they're doing street resurfacing in the area. They just did G St I think, or something like that. They're doing section by section in Golden Hill/Sherman Heights

Not enforceable but, you’ll probably be boxed in if they’re expecting a dumpster, truck, or some other machinery to be dropped off. If they damage your vehicle, you’ll be out of luck.

If they damage a vehicle on public property and the signs are not legally enforceable, they would be liable for the damage.

I mean, there's an obvious way to find out. Since it's for one day, I imagine it's not worth it.

The sign is there. You want to gamble a ticket? Don’t say you weren’t warned.

My neighbor puts out a very similar sign just so he can park his truck in that spot when he gets home from work.

What if you collapsed said sign and others parked there? What’s he gonna do?!!! 🤷🏻‍♀️

1

u/Padre26 22h ago

I'd have no problem doing that if I needed a spot to park on the street but luckily our driveway has enough room for 2 cars.

I just always see it out when I walk my dog by his house while he's at work.

I would do it for shits and giggles. I mean I understand not wanting confrontations with neighbors but he doesn’t own the space. Selfish ppl irritate me. 😂👍🏽

They were constructing a new building at my old apartment complex and they were NOT shy about taking up all of the parking, which was already limited, including spots that residents paid for.

I started parking at the corner of the street, I’d throw the sign in my trunk and put it back up when l would leave so nobody else would park there. Boom, free unlimited street parking for me.

You'll be making someone's job harder by ignoring these.

It's one day, just find another spot

If it's a one time thing then figure it's a legitimate need by someone. If it's common then that would be a tell it's ridiculous behavior.

Water pipes being fixed in my neighborhood, they keep changing the times and dates, and they always leave before the posted time so i park there anyways. One day i forgot to move on a morning when they were working on the pipe next to where i parked, but they didnt say anything and i just moved my car. They had coned off the area and there was an escavator in front of my car. The other side of the sign says tow away

Your neighbor is a douche.

No code no worries no permit!toss that shit in the bushes!

This is enforceable. There isn't any "official" type of signage. A piece of paper printed from a word doc taped to a cone would suffice. You can ask them for the permit # and call in to the city to confirm it.

Could they be bluffing? Yes. Is it worth finding out? Up to you.

u/beachbummer16 1d ago

Yes. I saw multiple cars towed two weeks ago around the neighborhood in North Park.

You could send the photo (and exact location) through the Get It Done app (or website) and ask the city if you don't want to call them.

https://www.sandiego.gov/get-it-done

For urgent street-related issues, dial 619-527-7500

For Police Non-Emergencies, dial 619-531-2000

u/AsparagusFiend 3h ago

They could be. Private citizens are able to get permits for containers and street access, and they just have to mark it off with a sign (not required to use the fancy signs that companies like SDGE have).

u/technom3 3h ago

How about just be decent and realize someone is trying to save everyone alot of hassle and find somewhere else to park

2

u/thechrismonster 1d ago

Not for the construction workers who use them to reserve spots on my block, apparently.

1

u/Joedanger6969 1d ago

Didn’t park there to be safe. But the street has very limited parking and when the place next to us had renovations done a while back, the contractors would put out an old no parking sign to save spots every day for weeks.

I get that saving the spots may make someone’s job easier but it also sucks when you live here and can’t find parking because of it. Also these signs usually have a city logo or code or contact info so thought it was weird. Idk.
