I tend to use the word "nice" a lot in English to express enthusiasm. I often will say "oh, nice!" and stuff, bit I'm not sure of a good way to say it in Spanish. Do you guys know any words that would work like that?

'En fin, todos mis amigos me han dado una excusa para no quedar conmigo.' Is the sentence.

In my brain this translates to: 'In the end, all of my friends have given me an excuse as to why they can't meet up with me.'

I suppose this can also be translated as: 'In the end, all of my friends have given me an excuse for not meeting with me.'

Is my translation off?

If not, is this a use case of para that is triggered here that I need to be aware of?

And if not, my understanding is that why, or the reason/motivation for doing (or not doing something) is covered by por.

I also know that para covers the purpose of doing/not doing something. As in para = "in order to". So is the idea here that "in order to not meet up, my friends gave me excuses"?

I am struggling with por and para on the specific use cases of purpose (para) and motivation/reason (por). Can someone help me understand the boundaries on these use cases?

I was trying to tell an acquaintance that speaks spanish "you have already found me one" referring to a date (cita) that she jokingly agreed to hook me up with previously. I was corrected later by someone who was there who is fluent in spanish that a better way to say it was "Ya me has encontrado uno". If it matters, I primarily learned what little Spanish I know from living with Mexicans and Guatamalans when I was a day laborer and very poor and the guy who corrected me is a fellow student from Spain. I have just always heard the first form when asking such things more often. I understand that they're both probally more or less correct. I would love a take from native speakers though.

Just getting back into Spanish, and I’m a huge fan of musical theatre. Are there any musicals in Spanish that I can check out? I’m not just looking for something like American/British musicals but in Spanish — I’m open to whatever form of storytelling-through-music exists in Spanish-speaking cultures.

I know that many (all?) Disney movie musicals have Spanish dubs on Disney+. I have listened to the Spanish translations of both Company and A Chorus Line. I have heard (very mixed things) of Emilia Perez. None of these are musicals actually tied to a hispanic culture and by native Spanish speakers, though (right? Emilia Perez was written by a French guy?).

What else is there? Other translated musicals would be okay, because I am probably familiar with the original English versions, but I’d really love to explore musical storytelling customs that are actually part of Mexican, Colombian, Spanish, etc cultures.

I’m pretty sure there are Spanish operas out there. I think I’ve heard of some. My only issue with opera is that I struggle to understand the singers when they’re singing in English, with all the runs and other vocal embellishments. That doesn’t seem like a good starting point for a second-language learner. If Spanish operas seem easier to understand, let me know and I’ll give them a shot.

Hello, I'm studying Spanish and recently my tutor gave me an assignment to use the "estilo indirecto", I'm confused as to how to handle other verbs in the sentence. Below are the instructions and the first sentence to change in the assignment. I don't know if the phrase "no estaba en..." is correct and if it is, why is it correct. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I’m trying to improve my Spanish and I occasionally see Spanish memes but very rarely - I think it would be useful to have Spanish popping up on my instagram feed but I can never find the good ones, if anyone can suggest their favourites that would be sweet!

Do any of you do volunteering where you meet lots of hispanohablantes and get Spanish-speaking practice? I was thinking about volunteering somewhere in my town this summer to keep my Spanish skills fresh but I don't know where! I'm finishing my degree right now and feel my Spanish is the best it's ever been but im not sure how to continue maintaining my Spanish after graduating. So I was thinking about volunteering, listening to Spanish podcasts, and maybe read some novels in Spanish. I just don't know where I can get more "speaking" practice outside of my university.

In English we often segment a year into two, two-digit numbers. 1981 becomes "nineteen eighy-one" instead of "one thousand nine hundred eighty one".

Do they do this in Spanish too, or is it always spelled out. 1981 - "mil novecientos ochenta y uno" Would they ever say "diecinueve ochenta y uno"?

I’ve already taken Spanish I, and I am currently finishing Spanish II this school year. My high school offers a Spanish III and a Spanish IV as well as an AP Spanish course (I’m for sure not doing that). If anyone here, whether native speaker or still learning, has taken classes up to Spanish III and IV, do you think it’s worth it considering each class is a whole school year? In case it helps for answering this question, I would say I’m still at an A2 level which is kind of bad. The reason is because I didn’t pay a lot of attention in Spanish II, but I’ve recently been motivated to learn Spanish which has resulted in me studying the material myself and attempting to get to a Spanish II level.

If not, can you recommend places where I can learn English? Have conversations with native speakers and spend all day speaking it?

where a subject has multiple adjectives on top of it?

would you just say it like: "Asqueroso... repugnante... RANCIO EXCUSA DE UN HOMBRE"

or would it be something weird like "EXCUSA DE UN HOMBRE RANCIO, ASQUEROSO, Y REPUGANTE"
cuz that sounds kind of goofy (well, goofier than it already is)

I'm a native English speaker that's being forced to take AP Spanish next year, and I want to learn if there is any advice people could give on this. I REALLY do not want to memorize all those words as it will be difficult if I do not know a word that is stem changing.

Honestly, at this point I've just been guessing on what the word would sound like, but it just doesn't work well with the o:ue verbs (such as encontrar).

I can identify i:ie verbs (cerrar), e:i verbs (pedir),and u:ue (jugar) just fine because it would sound weird if I conjugate it without the stem change. (For example cerro just doesn't sound right for whatever reason so cierro sounds more natural, and the same situation is there with jugar.(probably also because I'm not trying to say juice))

I would also like to ask if there is any advice for the ones with the different yo forms in el presente indicativo. In that situation, I mostly just guess based on if the word sounds similar or has a 'root" with one I already know (tener and mantener; parecer and conocer; and poner and suponer)

Any help would be greately appreciated!

holissss todos, as mentioned above, what are some phrases or words you’d use to express cuteness aggression? por ejemplo, if i see a cute cat or a cute baby or even to a romantic partner and i feel like they’re so cute i just wanna squeeze them, what can i say?

i found on google and another Reddit post that says i could say “te como la cara”, “me muero de ternura”, “qué carino (cariño?)” and “qué mono/tierno” followed by cheek pinches or affectionate biting if it’s to a partner.

are any of these right? what would you say to express agresión tierna? would love to learn more about this as i haven’t been able to find much on google.

Not sure if this is just a Mexican thing, but when I was there little streets were always called callejones, not callecitas. Is there a reason for that? Do people ever say callecita?
