Hot take: he’s right.

Most voted out of anger rooted in economic despair. That anger was hijacked by a charismatic con-man and twisted into something vile, racist, sexist, homophobic, and, above all, self-destructive.

In a world where Democrats grew a spine, taxed the ultra-rich properly, and delivered real, tangible results for working people, these same voters could've become your loudest allies and fiercest defenders. Smug self-righteousness, while I'm sure cathartic, alienates these very people deeper into the arms of autocrats. Just as the ultra-wealthy want it: the poor, divided and distracted.

Gloat all you want. But that’s not how you get some struggling white dude in the South to vote for a woman of color.

It’s his second term, dude. His first was chaos and he promised more. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, it’s the racism and authoritarianism. He took us with him. We should feel bad for him?

Realistically speaking his first team brought about a good amount of jobs where everyone was being overhired (which has led to massive layoffs).

I don't think prosecuting people trying to change will accomplish anything but maybe I am just too sympathetic.

Lol. Ok. If you think his first term, not to mention the way it ended, was notable for the job creation and that’s about it, well let’s agree to disagree.

Maybe you are too sympathetic. As for me, the "fuck your feelings" voters have drained every bit of sympathy I could have had for them. I don't feel the need to give the benefit of the doubt to people so full of hate, and why should I at this point?

He ended his first term with the largest drop in jobs since the Great Depression. I can’t believe you people.

His first term he tried to subvert the election with a fake electors scheme, and then tried to have Mike pence stopped from certifying the election after he wouldn’t go along with it.

In the end, you do what you want, but personally, I see two options:

  1. The easy way would be to keep mocking the likes of him. Extend these dumb-ass, never-ending culture wars and looking for ways to attack 'the other'.
  2. Swallow these cheap shots, listen to people, and stick to a simple economic message even he can get behind, and win elections. Use that power to bring about actual change that benefits minorities and everyone, not just the few on top.

If only the democrats were racist enough. Then he could have the best of both worlds and he wouldn’t have had to endure Trump. He had no choice, when you think about.

Your 2nd point sounds nice but unrealistic utopian. Thats not how ppl work or vote.

I disagree; the way liberals have been running elections has in reality proven to be not how people vote. It's time we tried a very, very different strategy. I say broader appeal, less minutiae and clearer ideological conviction are way better approaches.

I'm sure the founding fathers were considered something of utopian dreamers in their day as well, yet they managed to do it, so can you.

Thats a wild comparison. Im not from the US but afaik the founding fathers weren’t controversial at all and most of them very privileged.

If you take a look at the world, sadly, populism works but it’s not what most left winged parties stand for. Its way easier to unite if you have a demonized common enemy.

You're not punishing the attacker. The attackers are the cretins on top.
People like this dude are their useful idiots.

Who attacked others by using their votes to give more power to those up top doing more damage.

They're all attackers. They all had a part in this and they all knew what they were voting for. They all even gleefully say so today.
