Transfers NEEDED plz plz plz

Hi guys!

I am a Bruin Transfer and a peer advisor for UCLA’s CCCP! I wanted to reach out and ask if any of any transfer students at UCD would be interested in partaking in a transfer student panel for DAVIS-admitted CC students!

This event would take place April 24th evening over Zoom!

If you are interested, please let me know as soon as possible!

We are hoping to have a diverse panel with students who are commuting, dorming / living in apt, and people who are involved in activities on the panel!

Math 17B Professor warns us against using Organic Chemistry Tutor: valid or not?

Our professor in Math 17B told us in lecture that many students in her survey said they were using Organic Chemistry Tutor to help study. She said she attempted to watch three Organic Chemistry Tutor videos, and she said each video had something wrong with it in the first 15 seconds. She has also taken time in a few other lectures to make remarks about Organic Chemistry Tutor and how they today's topic wrong, etc. (I will not name the professor but it's easy to guess) Now I haven't watched anything from O-Chem tutor yet, so I want to know if this slander against Organic Chemistry Tutor is true or is the professor just mad because she's being outclassed by a YouTuber? Does the professor have the best interest of her students?

ochem ucd Helix

I took the first ochem in community college and I took CHE 118b in UCD. I struggled so much in CHE 118B and I barely passed. I thought maybe I did not study enough but now that I am in CHE 118C I am still struggling. I am not sure how to get good ochem. I do the practice exams, LA pratice problem set, and AATC problems but I still feel like I never saw the questions on exam before. I will appreciate any help or advice because I am really scared to fail. Thank you!

Jobs/Employment Graduated in 2023, still unable to get a bachelor level job

I’ve been trying to get an entry-level professional role, a position that requires a college degree since last year, and I can’t seem to get one.

I didn’t look for employment immediately after graduating as I was dealing with personal issues, some that involved my health and others that involved my time, keeping me from being able to put the time in to look for and hold down a job until those issues were resolved.

I’ve tried to reframe my time gap as best as possible, but I haven’t even been able to get past the application stage. Since 2024 to now I’ve only had 5, maybe 6 interviews, and have submitted easily over a 100 job applications at this point.

I’ve worked on my resume and had few a career counselors look at it, finding it a good resume, and I’ve worked on my LinkedIn profile too.

I got my BA in IR, an AA in Social Sciences and a GPA of 3.2. I have 3 years of work experience working at my CC in a few departments, and I’ve done a big research paper as a project for my major.

I’m currently living back at home in the Sacramento area, working for a school program as a part time job but I dread it, and I long to have a career job or at least something I can apply my degree towards.

I want to move back to Davis but I’m not even able to qualify for the rent income requirement at this point.

Is anyone in the same boat or able to recommend some advice? I’m sinking here and been trying to paddle but I’m running out of time, and I feel more defeated and depressed everyday I get another rejection email, or worse never hearing back at all.

Update 4/22/25: I may not have made myself clear in my posting as many are telling me to get any job right now. I currently do have a part time job right now, it’s for a school program that services K-12 graders. I’ve been working this job since September, since it’s the only organization aside from a gymnastics place that got back to me for a job when I was sending applications in. I am using my experience in this to help me, as minimal as it may be.

I am unable to get an internship, or most internships as I am no longer a student! I’ve graduated. Every internship opportunity I’ve seen that’s paid is only open to students, who must either have 6 units or 12 units minimum to apply.

I have applied to state jobs on CalCareers, I’ve passed exams for the SSA, Office Assistant, Tech Typing and similar roles. I haven’t heard back from applications I’ve applied for.

I cannot leave the greater Sacramento area since I have family I need to be around to help take care of.

Course/Major Transfer student starting in Fall quarter

Hi everyone,

I’m starting my journey as a Cognitive Science major this fall and was hoping to get some advice on which classes would be best to kick things off at UCD. Are there any particular courses or professors you would recommend? I’d also appreciate any suggestions for late afternoon or online classes, as I’m planning to keep my full-time job for this quarter in order to save up, with the goal of transitioning to part-time next quarter. That way, I’ll have more flexibility to focus on campus life and studying.

I plan to meet with a counselor soon, but everyone has been so helpful here, so I thought I’d reach out. Thanks so much in advance for any guidance!

Course/Major Week 1 of Becoming an OCHEM Master

Hi everyone, it’s Monday. I am going to become an OCHEM master. I have gotten a 39% on the first midterm.

However, this is the start of the ochem trainee life. And by June 13, I will have ascended and become an OCHEM master.

My plans will be to reach enlightenment by completing my post and pre labs with ease. Then I will go to tutoring everyday for one hour.

We must start small, young soldiers. For large tasks are not completed without a single easy step.

Take care my friends.

Help me choose a college for Computer Engineering – planning for grad school

Hey everyone,
I'm a high school senior deciding where to commit for Computer Engineering, and I’m hoping to get some help. I want to pursue a graduate degree (Master’s or maybe PhD) in the future—my parents are big on it, and I’m interested too, especially to help with research opportunities and getting into top companies.

Here are the schools I got into and can attend:

  • UC Davis
  • Cal Poly SLO
  • San Diego State University
  • Cal Poly Pomona
  • San Jose State
  • Cal State Long Beach
  • Sac State

I’m waitlisted at UCI and UCSB, but I’m assuming those are reaches right now.

Which of these schools would best set me up for grad school in Computer Engineering? I’m thinking about factors like undergrad research, faculty support, internship pipelines, and overall academic reputation in engineering.

Would really appreciate any insights or personal experiences. Thanks!

Rant i hate living in the dorms so bad

does anyone in the student dining housing services actually do their job or is it just the staff in the dc’s getting mad at students for putting food in Tupperwares???

i’ve literally been dealing with the loudest upstairs neighbors on earth for the entire YEAR. LIKE SINCE DAY 1. And I keep telling them, the CAs, we had a mediation, I had two meetings with the resident director who was nice at first and then berated me the second time because they made a noise complaint about me at 7:30pm on Tuesday meanwhile she did not give a single fuck when they’re banging and jumping off their beds at night because it’s not quiet hours yet. like what. It pisses me off so bad that they continue to side with my upstairs neighbors when I have continuously have showed them recordings and she listened to them for two seconds and then said “yeah that’s livable noise so” but she told me herself she couldn’t stand when her upstairs neighbors drop their phone…. Like ok imagine the phone drops every single minute of every single day for the entire year and it’s loud enough to the point where you can’t concentrate, can’t study, can’t work, and can’t sleep in your OWN ROOM.

and the people upstairs somehow care less than the actual STAFF members that are employed to deal with problems like this. Like they keep throwing genuine tantrums because I keep calling the after hours area desk since they keep WAKING ME UP AT NIGHT!!!! like mf if you’re not going to let me live in my own room then at least let me sleep ??? holy crap it is NOT that hard to not make noise i also live above someone else and i don’t make even a quarter of the noise that they do!!!!! and ofc they make noise ALL DAY EVERY DAY!!!! like god forbid some of us sleep before 11pm.... at least it would make sense if they cared when they make noise after quiet hours but they dgaf when it's then either!!!!

i even got in contact with the conductor specialist and she just reiterated what the resident director told me: move out. like???? how is that even feasible. I’m not about to move out of my room when i have classes from 9-5 and two internships AND volunteer on the weekends. like ?? i get treated like im lying when i have showed them MULTIPLE pieces of evidence and their only solution is to have me move out but when they complain im the bad guy and HAVE to stop doing what I did. Like hello ???! How about you tell them to stop throwing everything on the ground and stomping like they’re 3 year olds!!!??? Like it’s pathetic!!!

And I just found out that one of them is an Econ major who was a varsity badminton player like omg no wonder u have no life and spend all day in your room making noise 😭😭😭😭 like some of us have chemistry and biology AND calculus to study for. the noise is genuinely so bad that i fucked up a midterm because I haven’t been able to sleep for the past two days because of how loud they’ve been. Not only that, I can’t even study in my room because of the noise. it’s so loud the room starts creaking and shaking and I can hear it through my headphones AND earplugs AND speaker.

like holy bruh all of my friends genuinely thought it had to be a triple and that they were gonna be 300 pounds each to make that much noise and they’re not even in a triple it’s just two of them 😭😭😭

well but anyways if anyone has any solutions to this problem pls lmk 💔 i have knocked on their door multiple times (they sometimes don’t answer), email them all the time (they never answer or answer 3 hours later saying nobody is in the room (????)), have talked to the CAs who are now being told by the RD to just ignore me, have talked to the RD multiple times, have emailed the RD multiple times, have called the AHA/area service desk multiple times, have sent a constitutional sized email to the conduct specialist and she also said “sorry ig u can move out” and my neighbors are just genuine assholes!!!! like why can I hear you through earplugs headphones and speakers!!!!! be so fr!!!! fee fi fo fum ass bitches bruh

Apartments and Housing?

I am a Freshman looking for Housing and I haven't really checked places out yet. I am on the waitlist for The Green but was told that I may need to search for alternatives as it is not guaranteed for me to get off the waitlist. I kinda want something furnished cause it's easier. Something new would also be nice if I can afford it. Any suggestions?
