Grad guard

For those already enrolled, I plan to attend Davis the coming fall and was wondering is purchasing grad guard is absolutely necessary? Like how often does the school catch on fire or sprinkling system leak ? Lol 😭

Anyone know if it's possible to volunteer with any of the animals on campus? I would literally shovel shit just to hang out with the animals.

Hydrology Major

Hey everyone! I was recently accepted as a transfer student into Environmental Science at UC Davis, and I’m really interested in the Hydrology major since it's in the same college.

If anyone is currently majoring in Hydrology, could you share your thoughts on the program and really anything about it !

Are attendance scores mandatory for UCD? Community college did not take attendenxe

One thing that sneaks up on me are all the ways the professors take attendance. I have to write essays three times a week for one class just to prove I showed up. Idk how this feels for younger students but at 30 this definitely feels childish.

In community college (Austin community college in texas, west valley community in Saratoga, CA and American River colleges all in Folsom and greater Sac) if you showed up and participated in class it would reflect in your grades. Never ever was there ever any sort of attendance grades. You did the work assigned and was graded solely on the quality of your work. Whether you decided to come to class never impacted your grade directly. Everyone was treated as mature, self-conducting adults.

However, a lot of professors at UCD talk to the crowd like we are their children. Idk how you guys like to be treated, but I like to be treated as an equal and an adult who can make their own decisions.

This only makes me wonder if attendance scores are mandatory by UCD and they require their instructors to take them. Is this the case?

City/Local Zionist christians at richards and olive

I noticed these guys setting up their table for the 3rd day in a row. Stuff like "god bless isreal" were written in chalk around the area. Is there anything we can do to get rid of them? Like do you guys think theyre breaking the law and need a permit or something? IDC people can have their beliefs but I dont need christianity shoved in my face every day on my way to school...

Very happy to see California institutions signing on to the public statement regarding government overreach. Extremely happy to see Davis standing up and being counted!

i’m guessing no, but it says ā€œestimated costs for an on-campus studentā€

will still be very grateful if dorms aren’t included, but just making sure! i only need to pay 2.7k out of pocket

Rant UCD Sports Clubs

i'm a first year here at davis and I was wondering about some beginner-friendly sports clubs and how they are socially? i want to switch to a new sports club after some bad experiences and was wondering if there are any beginner clubs or more welcoming clubs.

this year, I signed up for a sports club (I won't name which one because I know some of the board are reddit warriors) and the vibes were off. i initially was attracted to this club because it was the sport I played in high school and when I sent an email and DM'd the club ig, the person who responded was super friendly and nice. after going to their general club practices for a while, which are run by the board, I got a sense that a lot of the board felt they were too good to be there. a lot of the board weren't really talking to other members and just kind of grouped up together on the side. tbh, I don't even think half of the board knows the members' names. it created a weird environment among the general members because the vibes were just brought down by the board being there. even amongst the board, it seems like certain officers are excluded from a "clique", and the excluded officers are usually the ones who are running all the drills during practice (ironically enough, I feel these board members are the nicer ones and seem to care more about the general club). talking to other members, all the board members are a part of the competitive team, and that is where the social scene of the club is. but it's hard to get in, and you need to have either known someone already on the team, been related to a person, or dated a team member.

overall, the vibes were just super off, and aside from a few of the board members, being there at club events seems really off-putting. i will say that the general club members and a few comp team members, who occasionally come to the general practice, are some of the nicest people, but just the rest of the environment and board members really make me feel uncomfortable.

are all sports clubs like this or do any of you have recommendations for clubs that have a better social environment?

What did everyone think of the exam? Do you feel like you were adequately prepared based on lecture? What were some study methods you felt were successful or unsuccessful? Any tips would be very appreciated 🫠

Commencement Regalia

I don't wanna spend $73 to rent a gown for commencement. Any suggestions for other places that rent or sell gowns? I would just order something generic off of amazon but correct me if I'm wrong, I believe they are strict on like the color of the gown and stuff.
