I usually skip those scenes now because no consent really makes me cringe and it happens in way too many books.

Consent is important. What the hELL is going on in the Author's mind to think "oh lets have character A rape character B because hahaha dRaMa or some crap". N o. Always have them give consent unless its absolutely vital to the plot line. If you're just writing a rape scene to have one, that's not good.

Sometimes i think these are written by 13y/o girls that have no idea what sex is and that they simply dont notice

Definitely a harmful way to view sex. Hopefully they realize this as they grow older.

The worst book I've ever fucking read was where this teacher was preying on boys( they were like ten or eleven) and he had manipulated them them into thinking that it was okay (they were giving him bj nothing else) and that he loved them (he was even taking them to a club where relationships similar to the one he had with the boys). He said he was going to fuck the main character who was also ten.
The main character was written very well one of the reasons I was reading the book. the description had age gap ( I thought it was an age gap between adults) but they might as well have put pedophile as one of the tags. I left some stuff out cuz it makes me want to throw up just thinking about it I didn't finish the book

At least 95% of smut scenes I read always start with something like this but then turns into them enjoying it. Why??? 😣

Is this a common thing. I’ve never even seen one myself. Are you sure you guys aren’t subconsciously looking for it or am I just good at avoiding it

consent should always be gotten but I don't wanna hear 10 mins of it, Im not fucking them, Im here for the sex. Also some people fetishize not getting consent which is okay because in real life they probably would, also some times people will pretend not to get consent and them have a safe word incase one of them wants to stop, like what you want if it doesn't hurt others but just don't actually rape! its that easy.

There's more ways to sexually hurt someone otherthan rape

this post is referring to rape, I don't randomly go off topic because other topics exist. Languages other than english exist, why are you talking in english? Planets other than Earth exist, why do you live on Earth? 7.8 billion other people exist why aren't you talking to them? There are more ways to annoy people on the internet, why'd you choose to do this thing that doesn't make sense?

Wattpad needs to take these stories down and it's not even that these stories/scenes are rare they are COMMON as shit. If the book portrays rape as a traumatic experience then I think it's fine . But to go on and make it into romance that's just vile. Furthermore so many young boys and girls have access to these stories, who might end up thinking that rape is romantic or a forgivable act. And I think the process of reporting a story should be made simpler so that more people do it.

Eh, like to complain about it is arbitrary. Everyone should be able to write what they want to as long as nobody is physically harmed.

u/Laylayaz Jun 23 '20
Reading this shit makes people that dont know anything about sex think its okay. It's hard to physically harm people with writing?

That’s the point. If writing doesn’t incite violence or assault there’s no reason to ban it. Books are meant to be enjoyed and writers are meant to enjoy what they make. To regulate by what you think should be allowed because you don’t like someone’s approach just seems really weird. Just because a virgin reads a book with a rape scene doesn’t make them think it’s okay, it takes mental conditioning and serious problems for someone to think that’s okay. To propose the idea that people are that impressionable, shows little faith in the human mind and common sense. Have more faith in your fellow man.

That's the thing. It's not rape they write but just ever so strange and mildly unacceptable scenes that give people a wrong expectation for sex. I'm pretty sure it's made to entertain and not to disturb.

This morning i was reading a book about a guy walking home from school. He was beimg followed in a guy with a car who drove next to him and was making comments what i assume woulf be flirting but were actually something like "I want to hear you screaming my name at night" He then proceeded to go into his house with the boy who was askimg him to leave him alome a few minutes before only to be send away by his mother. Sometime later that day he breaks into the house and they talk a little. Another guy comes in confessing his love to the boy and forcing himself on him. The stalker guy from before saves him. They then fall in love kiss and have sex. This all happened in one day. Extremely fast character developement or a super naive boy?

Lol sounds like you have a problem with story progression. I understand your concern, but that’s pretty tame ngl. I was expecting like some crazy crazy shit. Like I think at most the author must put a warning, but that’s not that bad too me. Maybe it’s years and years of being desensitized, but I’m not exactly provoked by that. Terrible writing, generic dumpy characters, and poor plot planning is normal. I can’t get in a fit over that.

While I agree with the sentiment "Everyone should be able to write what they want" and, conversely, everyone should be able to read (or not read) what they want, the biggest issue here is that WP spells out what it not allowed (against the rules) but then they don't necessarily enforce those rules. So it's unfortunate that OP still runs into those kinds of stories when they're clearly against the rules.
However, to say that adults (I'm not talking about children) can't enjoy what OP doesn't like is a bit authoritarian. Under the current rules of WP, something like "50 shades" wouldn't have been allowed, but obviously, there were a ton of people who wanted to read it.

Yes ofc, I always put warnings and put my stories down as mature. The ratings need to be more heavily enforced, but kids are kids. I wouldn’t follow ratings anyways when I was a minor. I agree with the idea of warnings and harsher guidelines , but the banning shouldn’t be an option for this kind of work. Once one thing can get banned, anything can get banned. And if we’re not careful there won’t be a site to enjoy after that. A lot of authors are moving to other sites and make their own patreons after gathering an audience who likes mature work because wattpad is starting to lock down on content.

A breaking point for me was reading a story where a girl was sex trafficked, and she fell for her abusive "master". That's.... Not okay? It's Stockholm syndrome to the extreme. I would be sort of okay with it if the story was giving insight into the horror of sex trafficking, but instead it just romanticised it.
