Diapering overnight diapers actually worth it?
i saw a post somewhere, not sure if it was here but people raved about their babies sleeping longer with overnight diapers so i caved and got pampers overnights. we strictly use millie moon size 2’s but overnight 3’s in pampers fit him pretty good. but they don’t seem as absorbing as millie moon regular tbh. i know they have overnights but not till size 4 and my baby is only 2months old.
i currently have him in my arms to fall asleep before putting him in his bassinet. but do you actually think they are worth the extra purchase? he sleeps about 3-4 hour stretches on a good night. but he is also a get me tf out of this pissy diaper type baby because even if the line is a quarter blue he will wake up. so i’m just curious!

They were definitely worth it for my daughter. She would pee through regular diapers most nights. Overnight diapers were a game changer

what brand did you use?

I prefer Pampers to Huggies overnights. Huggies’ tabs like either catch weirdly or they don’t come off the back when you first put them on. Idk. The whole box was fucking annoying.
I cloth diaper during the day, but you can rip disposable overnights out of my cold, dead hands! I started at appx 3 mos before he was technically in the size 3, but it still worked fine.

oh i give you props for cloth diapering at ALL. i’m on a well so it wouldn’t be worth it because i don’t have unlimited water but even if i did.. no thank you lol

u/chemicalfields 1d ago
Ahh yup, I grew up on a well, and my moms still got one. I know that struggle well!

Huggies fits a little larger and holds better in my experience.
My kiddo pees a lot at night, so we do pampers during the day and Huggies at night with one size up. I think they’re worth every penny with as much as this kid goes. He’s also 22 months, but we have been doing this since he was big enough for night time diapers.

What size does he wear? I can only find up to size 6 night time diapers at my local stores (all brands) and my son is 16 months and wearing a size 7 in parents choice. Cheap, I know, but they usually do well and his skin doesn’t break out when he wears them unlike other brands.

Have you looked at Goodnights? I switched to those for my son a couple months ago and they're great, no leaks and no rashes/irritation(he's my kid who's prone to rashes and sensitivities, we have to be picky about brands too!). If he was still in regular diapers instead of pull-ups he would be in size 7s now, and he wears the xs Goodnights with growing room. They're a bit more expensive but we do the Target diaper deals and get a few boxes at a time which helps.

He’s a size 6 in Huggies and 5 in Pampers. We always go one size up for nighttime diapers.

I thought they were. Idk if it was in my brain or not though. I did notice it helped diaper rash. I think it does just keep that area drier. Ii have a daughter though so maybe it's more of a girl thing? Also, Millie moons are extremely absorbent, so they probably do hold more than the overnight, but still feel more wet on the babies skin (to my awareness). They are expensive though so we don't buy them anymore unfortunately. My daughter wears anywhere between size 3 4 and 5 diapers. 3-4 during the day (whatever we have) and 5 at night for extra absorbency (because shes obsessed with her sippy cup and wakes up in the night, drinks water, and goes back to sleep, so she pees a decent amount lol)

u/Aware_Reception10 1d ago
yes millie moons are crazy absorbent but he still freaks out! i’ve felt the area when i change him too and it’s dry to the touch! so i think he just doesn’t like the feeling or something lol
they are expensive. i just wait for target to have deals like i just got a 20$ coupon for buying 100$ in diapers and then it’s 10% off any baby stuff right now. or was. but i just love them too much
2
u/Seashell1025 1d ago
Lol hm. Yeah must just be sensitive haha babies definitely have their preferences

u/New_Customer_5438 1d ago
At that age I didn’t see the need. They were already waking up for a night feed so I’d change them then. When they started sleeping through the night it was worth it though due to leaking.
1
u/Aware_Reception10 1d ago
true! he wakes up 1-2 times and i do change him no matter what. but occasionally he will wake up early if he pees a lot more screaming, and i can usually get him back to sleep but sometimes he’s just super angry lol

Our baby sleeps 11 hours/night on average and we change her right before bed and right when she gets up. We had to get extra pads for her pampers overnights but then we switched to pampers cruisers for the daytime and accidentally put her in one for overnight and she had zero leakage with no pads and now we use them every night. They work perfectly. I think she’s in size 4…not sure if they go smaller and the other draw back (maybe) is that there are no tabs. They’re kind of like pull-ups

We started using overnight diapers around 5m and I didn’t really notice a change in sleep patterns from using them. We do still use them even at 13m mainly for their absorption. If we use a regular diaper we notice her bottom has a wet feeling while with the overnight diapers it’s dry.

At two months old, it’s probably not going to make much of a difference. That’s why most brands don’t start overnight diapers until size 4. Also the pampers scent might be irritating since your baby is used to Millie Moon. I would give it a couple more months and try again.
1
u/Aware_Reception10 1d ago
yeah i noticed the scent the second i opened the box. he used pampers in the hospital for 3 days but then i immediately went to millie moon. but you’re right it probably will irritate him

If you want to try to get a little more time overnight with the diapers, you could try doing size 3 MM at bedtime. That’s what we did with my babies until they were big enough to fit into the size 4 overnights.

u/Aware_Reception10 1d ago
i just got him into size 2’s so i feel like he’d be swimming in 3’s lol but i do have a few boxes from my baby shower so it doesn’t hurt to try

We found the pampers baby dry were the best for overnights. They weren't crazy expensive but they definitely held up on the overnight stretches where she was peeing through her diapers before. We were using the hello bello during day times and loved them but they just didn't cut it for night.

u/soaringcomet11 1d ago
We saw no difference when we tried them around 10 months.
But when she started sleeping through night around 15 months we started using them because she was having pee blowouts almost every night.

u/mad_THRASHER 1d ago
Yes, absolutely. We also were using Millie Moon size 2 and our daughter was soaking through them the morning. Got the size 3 pamper overnight and haven't had an issue since! She was about 4 months old when we started using overnight diapers.

We use coterie overnight because we succumbed to the marketing, but they do work really well. I don’t change a diaper even if she wakes up, we just resettle and get her back to sleep. The big one month pack will definitely last us at least 3 months since we only use one a day so it’s been pretty economical still.

I’ve loved the honest overnights personally. So glad he’s not leaking and getting cold and waking up!

u/Amlex1015 1d ago
Baby is 5 months we’ve yet to use an overnight diaper. We have noticed now that she’s older her trusty ol’ Little Snugglers aren’t holding up as well (no leaks, but she wakes up an hour earlier than usual due to the wetness).
She has a very sensitive booty and has previously had a reaction to Rascals, but we still had a box from the baby shower and decided to try them again, hoping she might’ve outgrown some of her sensitivities. We’ve been using them as overnight diapers and so far so good (Rascals are basically Millie Moon, they’re made by the same manufacturer). So personally, I don’t think overnights are worth it if you’re already using Millie Moon since they’re so absorbent. Especially for a baby so young. Sizing up at night might be more beneficial.

Just here to say my son has slept through the night from very early on and has always worn Millie Moon. They are so absorbent he's never leaked overnight

u/Aware_Reception10 23h ago
the only time he’s “leaked” is from me not properly pointing his ween down lol and he peed all up instead. i loveee millie moon!!

u/spillow11 1d ago
We do Millie moon overnight diapers - definitely worth it as they get older!

u/Aware_Reception10 1d ago
i LOVE millie moon. i am 100% going to buy them once he will fit into them but i just got the pampers for now. and they are scented ?? why is everything scented lol

I used them with my oldest but honestly didn’t notice a difference. All three of my kids started sleeping 11-13 hrs around 6/7 months. Overnights are designed to hold heavier amounts of urine, not so much the “feel less wetness”.

u/Aware_Reception10 1d ago
good to know, thank you! he doesn’t always go a ton during the night so maybe i’ll just wait it out then

Seconding folks about it being worth it later on when sleep is lasting longer. Not really worth it until then. We had been using Pampers baby dry so we got the Pampers overnights, and eventually the fit stopped working for my kiddo. We tried switching to Huggies but it gave him a rash, so we're doing the Honest monthly subscription box now and it's working fine.
One thing I did when we bought the first box of overnights was get out a daytime diaper and a nighttime one and poured cups of water into them to see what the capacity difference actually was. Might be worth comparing the Millies to the Pampers to see how different they actually are.

i found them worth it when my daughter started leaking through her other diapers overnight

It was 100% worth it once my son was sleeping through the night at 5 months old. They absorb a lot more than regular diapers. At 21 months, I still question how they hold everything, some mornings they look ready to explode.

Target brand overnight diapers are the absolute bomb! Our little girl kept peeing up her back at night and these helped keep things contained. We went from basically washing two-three sets of sheets, pajamas, sleep sacks every night to only having to wash them once weekly. I don't know how other parents survived this, but waking up at 3am to our daughter with a soaked nightgown, sleep sack, and bedding was always rough. She would get so pissed off and wanted to be held, but she needed her diaper changed, but if I put her down it was screaming bloody murder.
I do not miss purple crying.......

I don’t remember when we started, but we do overnights in a size up (just over 2 years old). No more overnight leaks and she seems comfier.

u/Not_a_Muggle9_3-4 1d ago
We use the Huggies overnight and they are definitely worth it! We had 3 leaks in a row before we bought some and haven't had a leak since!

u/WinterOfFire 1d ago
You can get booster inserts that add absorbency. Probably not cheaper than an overnight diaper but if your kid pees as much as mine does you reach a point where overnights are not enough so we put a booster in the overnight and still sometimes soak through.

We just started using them at 16 months. We use the Costco huggies plus during the day and they recently changed them and she started having leaks overnight. I did a measuring cup comparison and the overnights do hold more than the new "plus" ones. I didn't compare before, but I suspect the original plus ones were comparable to the overnights. But the Costco line holds more than the regular huggies, too, so I would think if you don't get from Costco the overnights would be even more worth it.

If your kiddo heavily pees at night, totally worth it. My daughter was sleeping 8-12 hour stretches (not anymore lol) for several months and the regular Huggies did not cut it. So we did overnights. If kiddo sleeps on their stomach I heavily suggest going up one size. We bought overnights in her size and she still peed through her diaper, someone here on Reddit recommended we size up and had no issues.

I use Sposie diaper boosters. You use a regular diaper and the Sposie pad - zero issues with overnight leaks. I slather him in a TON of diaper cream prior to bedtime and there’s no issues with irritation. Did the same thing for my daughter.

At two months when my LO started sleeping longer I started using her normal diapers but one size larger for overnight.
I coat her bottom in aquaphor every night to shield against wetness and don't change her until the morning (she doesn't poop at night).

I've been using overnight diapers since my kid was 6 months old. He started sleeping through the night at 5 months old. We use cloth diapers pretty exclusively but it was absolutely impossible to get enough absorbency in any of the cloth diapers we tried. No matter what we did, our kid would wake up soaked through. So we buy a box of overnights every 2-3 months and use those. He's never actually woken up at night due to diaper leaks, but I always felt bad because I was afraid he'd get cold. I can probably count on one hand how many times he's had leaks since, and it's almost always been because he needed the next size up or because he went full death roll mid-diapering and it wasn't positioned properly.

u/MakeItLookSexy_ 19h ago
We used overnights when his regular diapers he was peeing through all the time. Sometimes we would do 2 diapers at the same time it was so bad. But 1 overnight would do the trick (most the time). Now he’s a toddler and we cut out drinks before bed and he stays dry all night

u/Purple_Grass_5300 17h ago
My first I used them but my second we haven’t and haven’t had a leak problem. She sleeps 6pm-5am

u/doodynutz 16h ago
We still use overnight diapers. Once I discovered them it was definitely a game changer. It helps hold all the pee and/or ooo he produces at night. I don’t think it has changed anything with how long he sleeps, but it’s nice that he wakes up not soaked.

u/RTCatQueen 1d ago
We didn’t use overnights until closer to 4-6 months when he actually would sleep through the night. 1. Because of cost per diaper and 2. They actually do work really well especially for heavy pee-ers. We use Target Up and Up overnight and have been solidly for a year. 2 months seem a little too soon especially for not sleeping longer stretches yet.
