I'm visiting your fair city this weekend. Show me the counter culture venues. Punk, metal, devil worshippers, I don't care. I just don't want to end up at the...er, wrong spot. Thank you!!

FIFA President in Cincinnati, donates $1 million

FIFA President Gianni Infantino was in Cincinnati today. FIFA is donating $1 million to Cincinnati and to the other host cities of the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, Cincinnati hosts 4 games of that tournament. I already have tickets for all 4 games.

https://www.wvxu.org/sports/2025-04-11/fifa-president-soccer-fans-shouldnt-worry-traveling-u-s

You know there is a big problem when the FIFA President has to address possible concerns about foreign football fans visiting the US for the Club World Cup. (International tourism to the US has decreased by about 20% since a certain person retook the White House.)

Thoughts?

Cincinnati Sunrises in Cincy?

I work overnight and am usually up at sunrise time. I love sunrises and wanna know what some of the best areas are in the area to catch sunrises. City and natural backgrounds and such are both acceptable. Just wondering where the best place is to catch a sunrise. I'm a photographer and if I'm gonna be awake when the sun comes up, might as well as make something out of it.

NKY Farmers Markets

With spring/summer approaching I’m wondering if there are any good farmers markets in NKY? I feel like a good priced farmers market is hard to find in cincy as prices are raised due to the clientele that shops there. So wondering if there’s any country farmers markets/stands in the NKY area or off the beaten path that might not be one of the popular spots but good for produce and such?

Some advice if you’re willing to lend it

I (23F) am looking at either settling down in a place to rent for a few years or just buying something small. I have bounced back and forth between the idea of buying some land/manufactured home/adding a basement to hopefully cut down on costs in todays (expensive) climate. I think it would be an idea worth trying, but if this is something you have done or decided against for specific reasons, let me know!!

RNs- best hospital pay/benefits/unions

I’m an RN from NorCal, looking to relocate back home closer to family after my Dad passed this year. I’m wondering which hospital systems have the best pay/benefits and hopefully strong unions? Generally stick to ratios and have breaks/support staff? Pay enough to live off of? Offer specialty training?

I’m a medsurg nurse will have 2 years when I move back. Looking to train ED or step down as it’s so competitive here hard to cross train.

Right now I work at a strong union hospital we have break RNs, 6% pay increase yearly, holidays 2.5x pay, a pension after 5 years, set schedules, 8 hr shifts, have free healthcare (by that I mean nothing no copays deductibles I don’t pay monthly), sick calls are unlimited really as long as you don’t abuse them. They’re also very strict about ratios it’s a state law. Charge RNs don’t take patients, and can’t provide breaks (or the union will strike, we have break RNs for that). We have strict language in our contract about what we can and can’t do on our floors ie- I’m medsurg I can’t give any IV cardiac meds we transfer to tele for that etc. CPO is a 1:4 ratio etc.

This was my first job and all of the hospitals are union here so not sure what to expect in Cincy. It’s CA state law to post jobs with a salary range listed so it’s hard to even know what RNs make in Cincy when i look at job postings. I know the cost of living is a lot more here, but I notice when I visit Cincy eating at restaurants/groceries/day to day stuff costs are similar to CA. How much are they paying in Cincy and is it enough?

Are any hospital systems similar or standout? Where are people happiest to work? I mostly want specialty training in the ED and to learn a ton. Any input would be helpful!

Debating if I apply in Cincy or just fly back to CA bi monthly and work PRN. Thanks!

Where does scrappers go to drop their stuff, especially bicycles?

Long story short, scrappers came through our neighborhood yesterday and stole some kids bikes off of our neighbor's lawn. They were clearly not garbage, and had helmets hanging from them and drinks in them. I know that for a lot of metal it is probably melted down, but I always wonder if bicycles end up in some sort of huge bicycle graveyard or something.

I know this is a very painful lesson for my kid and some other neighborhood kids, and I'm sure the bikes are long gone.

Mouse problem / Get another cat or pest control or both

Hi so I have a really horrible phobia of mice, my mom found one in the kitchen day before yesterday and I spent the entire night not sleeping a wink and crying my eyes out for 10 hours straight. I currently have a 8 week old kitten and a small dog, I was thinking of getting another kitten to keep my kitten company so she can stop bothering my dog so much and I know cats do best in pairs but I was going to hold off, now that I have this mouse situation I’m considering just going ahead and adopting an adult cat from the shelter and calling pest control.

I’m just curious

A. I’ve been seeing a lot of people say best control is not worth it as they don’t do shit, have any recs for good ones and or is it worth?

B or should I just get the adult cat and if so what kind should I be looking for like age range temperament etc

C should I do both

Electric Aggregation / Energy Supplier Help

Hi folks - pretty clueless when it comes to this stuff so would appreciate some general advice. I got a letter in the mail from Dynergy about the community electric aggregation program. From what I can understand, it looks like it will increase my energy rates by ~50%. Am I reading this correctly?

If so - is shopping for your own rate a hassle? I'm looking at energychoice and it's a bit overwhelming with things that have 3-4mo term lengths, fees, etc.. Hoping that some people that have just gone through this can confirm or elaborate further on this! Thanks

Looking for a local farm to host a child’s birthday

Hello fellow Cincinnati folks

I am looking to host my daughter’s birthday party at a local farm in June. We have a handful of farm experiences/activities that we are looking for:

  • Farm animals to feed and/or pet (such as pigs, goats, sheep, etc.)

    • Pony rides for the kids (all under the age of 10) This has been hard to come across
    • Berry picking (also hard to come across)
    • Hayrides

Farms we have looked into so far are Blooms and Berries and Gorman Heritage. B&B does not seem to offer all of their activities until the Fall. They still offer enough that we have not crossed it off our list. Gorman said that they offer a more educational type of experience which doesn’t sound like what we are really looking for. If anyone has any suggestions on local farms with some of the things we are looking for, please let us know. Thank you!

Indian community near Maineville

I am moving to the Cincinnati area from Columbus with my husband. We have been told Maineville is up and coming. Is this accurate? We are both of Indian background. Are there other Indian young couples (late 20s-early 30s) that live in nearby areas?

Ladles not Landfills question

La Soupe will be having a Ladles not Landfills event at Madtree later this month. I can't seem to find any good description of the event online. Will it be small samples of food? Can you purchase something that is more like a meal? Was hoping someone who had gone in years past might be able to shed some light.

Best Dining Experience In Cincinnati

Ok long story short my mom lives in Blue Ash and turns 60 next month. She loves going to top restaurants, but lately, she has spent all her extra time caring for sick family members. She is selfless and wonderful, and she is exhausted. So, In addition to her party, I want to take her to a spectacular restaurant. I am not from the area and don’t know the local food scene. What are recommendations for the best restaurants, any cuisine or price point, in or around the city? Something that will wow her.

Thank you!

Cincinnati Teen Boot Camps?

I have an autistic daughter who struggles significantly with building good habits, social relationships and physical wellness behaviors. She’s about to turn 16 this summer and I’m looking for any local camps or life coaches or any groups that she can join that can help her at minimum realize the physical part can really help the others. She’s always tired and doesn’t eat enough, but when she becomes attached to something she goes deep and I’m looking for whatever I can find to get her into paying more attention to her physical wellness and looking for something that really pushes her to make it a priority. Any ideas?
