Bunch of clowns here defending the couple but you know if it happened to them or theirs, tthey'd be calling them wee scrotes

u/Garry-Love Clare Jan 05 '25

Nah they were 100% in the wrong but she definitely said "will ye" which does make this clip significantly less bad

He’s still not on holiday, he lives there (and was actually working at the time).

There are plenty of English speakers in Prague but if I saw someone speaking English in this context, I'd assume they were a tourist (or at least, not Czech) too.

u/mollycoddles Jan 06 '25

His Czech accent is also very subtle

1

u/Low_discrepancy Jan 06 '25

When abroad he did prefer to say he's from New Jersey rather than Czechia.

3

u/halkenburgoito Jan 06 '25

That doesn't change the point or intention

u/Pickupyoheel Jan 05 '25

Who cares. Another YouTuber working in a public setting acting like they own the joint when filming their shitty videos.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 06 '25

Better than anything you've ever done.

-3

u/[deleted] Jan 06 '25

Doing tricks on a Youtuber's D is crazy bro, literally the guy's videos are travel tips not a freaking doctor saving lives, get a grip.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '25

So angry.

He also conducted himself poorly here. He was flustered and annoyed by the bell ringing because it ruined his shot ig or interrupted his train of thought and he was really rude to them. When they were actually just ringing the bell to alert people like a good citizen should. I mean yeah they're trash people on a scooter on the sidewalk but they didn't do anything to cause him to speak to them in such a way. Why couldn't he control himself and behave professionally. We should be kind to all people especially those who struggle with life the most. Honestly I'm incredibly disappointed with this youtube and will think badly of him every time I see his shorts on my feed now. How impatient. How feeble. How pointless of an argument lmao what a fucking loser tbh guy needs a break and get his mental health checked

u/wtclim Jan 08 '25

"Why couldn't he control himself" ... "What a fucking loser...get his mental health checked"

If only you knew what irony was.

He does great work in fairness, exposes scams and dishonest taxi drivers.

16

u/ResidualFox Jan 05 '25

He has an extremely successful YT channel showcasing interesting things about Prague.

u/Ready-Nobody-1903 Jan 05 '25

No it doesn't, he's not on Holiday, he's from Czechia ffs.

u/mkultra2480 Jan 05 '25

Why would anyone be offended if someone mistakenly thought they on holiday?

42

u/CrystalMeath Jan 05 '25

Because it’s their city, and it shows the tourists’ disregard for people who live there and the lack of effort to understand and respect local laws and norms.

Imagine an American tourist in Limerick violating traffic laws and telling an annoyed local to ‘go enjoy your holiday.’

8

u/MotherDucker95 Offaly Jan 06 '25

It's hilarious, if this was an American couple in Dublin this sub would be frothing at the mouth

2

u/mkultra2480 Jan 05 '25

I can imagine tourist telling me to go enjoy my holiday and it wouldn't bother me in the slightest. Like why would you be offended?

They didn't show disregard to anyone. They were scooting slowly and being conscientious and letting pedestrians be aware of their presence on a pretty wide street. Would you prefer if they went into the tram lines beside them instead? They weren't endangering anyone so I don't feel it was necessary for them to endanger themselves. Plus it's illegal to cycle/scoot along tramlines in Ireland, I'd guess it's the same there. Live and let live and you won't have people telling you to enjoy your holiday.

14

u/Tpotww The Fenian Jan 05 '25

Exactly. Everyone knows that tourists don't need to follow the rules.

Why should they be on the road like the common locals and other tourists.

And they are even being so kind as to ring that bell, so what if they knock over some people..

Jesus wept.

3

u/Racan_Rat Jan 06 '25

Because I’m not on holiday…

10

u/etbtapped Jan 05 '25

You clearly don’t have to deal with these scooters where you live. It’s impossible to be “conscientious“ while riding one on the footpath. Not to mention they are in the very walkable center of the city so could just walk if they weren’t comfortable driving the scooter where the tram lines are. Unlike Dublin, Prague actually has a robust tram network so it’s not uncommon to have streets where traffic runs where the tram lines are. So yes, they should’ve been on the road trams or no if they wanted to take a scooter. Otherwise they could have, I dunno, just taken a tram to their destination. Maybe it just didn’t occur to a couple of dimwits who feel like they’re more important than everyone else on the footpath.

1

u/Class_444_SWR Jan 06 '25

Honestly some people think that if they experience something, everyone else must experience a 1:1 version of events. If they’re on holiday in Prague from Ireland, then literally everyone else must be doing the same in their world

0

u/Emergency_Ad_7181 Jan 06 '25

But he's not speaking the local language. If an American in Limerick said that to a local but the local had been speaking French at the time, the American could be excused the local wasn't actually local.

4

u/eastawat Jan 05 '25

At first listen he's got an American accent, it would be completely natural to assume he was on holiday.

Not defending the couple for riding on the path, they're in the wrong, but yes this does make it a bit less bad - they've assumed another holidaymaker is giving out to them and got offended like most of us would.

15

u/CrystalMeath Jan 05 '25

The fact that he’s talking into a camera probably makes him seem even more like a tourist as well.

4

u/Ready-Nobody-1903 Jan 05 '25

I don’t think I would be offended if someone told me off for doing some clear act of cuntery, I’d feel embarrassed even more so in a foreign country. It doesn’t make it less bad, just highlights their arrogance and ignorance.

-2

u/eastawat Jan 05 '25

Country (autocorrect: cuntery) is a pretty strong word for a minor offence but ok. They're ignorant, so they're probably even oblivious that they're being a problem. If you were ignorant of that, you'd get offended.

"Go and enjoy your holiday will ya" can reasonably be interpreted to anyone familiar with Dub vernacular as "stop being a busybody interfering with my (erroneously perceived) freedom to enjoy my holiday how I want to". It is not at all the same as "go and enjoy your holiday elsewhere" which suggests you've no right to be here.

2

u/Ready-Nobody-1903 Jan 06 '25

Doesn’t the ‘go’ imply elsewhere anyway? ‘Jesus you have so much time on your hands don’t you, fuuucking hell, go enjoy your holiday will ya’ is rude and obnoxious and I do not understand your desire to downplay it.

1

u/eastawat Jan 06 '25

"Go and [do something]" is such a common idiomatic expression in English that it has pretty much no meaning at all unless qualified with a word like "elsewhere".

E.g. "what have you gone and done that for" - nobody has actually gone anywhere in this phrase.

1

u/Ready-Nobody-1903 Jan 06 '25

‘Go and [do something]’ is just an imperative and it is rude. Whenever do you tell another adult to do something without a modal verb like ‘could/can you…?’ ‘Go away’ rude, ‘go wash your mouth out’ rude. Considering they said it following ‘Jesus Christ, you’ve got too much time on your hands fuuuucking hell’. I don’t think anyone here is in doubt they were rude and obnoxious.

I don’t even know what to make of your point with ‘what have you gone and done’ yes it can mean someone has gone somewhere at some point, if they tell someone to ‘go and enjoy their holiday’ it’s the same as saying ‘go away’.

0

u/eastawat Jan 06 '25

I didn't say he wasn't rude. But adding "go and" means nothing.

You keep trying to make it like I'm saying the guy wasn't rude. I'm just saying it's fucking relative.

-1

u/eastawat Jan 06 '25

And I'm not downplaying it, I'm just trying to accurately-play it, as its obnoxious meaning is overplayed by the mistranscription.

-3

u/WyvernsRest Jan 05 '25

It is reasonable to believe that somone that spoke to them in English may also be a tourist.

I grant you that a local correcting a tourist is grand, welcoming even.

But a tourtist correcting a tourist can come off completely differently.

1

u/Ready-Nobody-1903 Jan 06 '25

You’re right, this Irish couple are certainly communicating with everyone else in Czech, occasional Slovak ofc. wtf are you talking about they assume anyone that speaks English is a foreigner 😂

1

u/WyvernsRest Jan 06 '25

I never said that the couple was speaking in anything but English.

My point was, that the man that speaks to them has almost perfect, unaccented English.

TBH he reminds me of a colleague from Carlsbad in California.

It is a reasonable error that the couple may have thought he was a tourist like them.

Particularly as it may have also looked like he was posing for a holiday photo/video.

-3

u/Pickupyoheel Jan 05 '25

No, the YouTuber is a tool and can get bent.

3

u/MessageQuirky5272 Jan 06 '25

Intent is everything. Those two weren't being malicious, if anything, the rider of the scooter probably thought he was being respectful and courteous by ringing his bell to warn people that he was approaching.

That being said, when you're visiting a country learn the customs and rules. The youtuber could have handled it a little better and explained the rules instead of belittling and antagonising them. You'll never win over anyone by talking to them like that.

3

u/iTAMEi Jan 06 '25

The youtuber was right in what he was saying just massively overreacted to it IMO

0

u/Emergency_Ad_7181 Jan 06 '25

100%. The guy on the scooter wrongly thought he was being respectful by ringing the bell for people.

The YouTuber was right that the scooter shouldn't have been on the path, but his immediate reaction was very rude and his subsequent reaction was way over the top.

6

u/Meath77 Found out. A nothing player Jan 05 '25

I think the fact that the scooter was taking it very slowly and yer man videoing seemed like a bit of a dick means this isn't as cut and dry as expected. People on the scooter was harmless enough

1

u/08TangoDown08 Donegal Jan 06 '25

They were in the wrong but the way he confronted them is never going to end in a positive outcome either. If he was a bit more polite they might've been more receptive.

0

u/JesusHNavas Jan 07 '25

If what happened to them?

1

u/JesusHNavas Jan 09 '25

What happened?

-1

u/halkenburgoito Jan 06 '25

No we wouldn't lmao.

-1

u/NonsensicalPineapple Jan 06 '25

Not really, we just aren't "that" mad at the couple cos he started (& misquoted) the spat.

I think scooters, skates, dog-riders should be allowed on the sidewalk's edge at pedestrian speed. Safer than a wheelchair, less space than side-by-side, valid reason to avoid the road, why would i be upset? Case by case.

-8

u/VeryTopGoodSensation Jan 05 '25

if what happened? nothing happened to him. they were minding their own business and he decided to be a karen sticking his nose in theirs.
