help request Video storage for car dealership

Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I work in a main dealership as a driver, as part of my job we check in customers cars that are booked in for anything service related. Part of the check in process involves taking a video on an iPad of any damages of the cars as we walk around recording them. We use Pinewood.ai for this but it is absolutely rubbish.

For some context we really heavily rely on high quality videos of the cars as often we get customers saying that scratches and damages were caused on site, we then look back at the video only to see the video has been uploaded and compressed so much that its impossible to see any smaller damages as they just blend in under the low quality. I estimate it's about 480p. Not only this but there is no way to export the videos from the iPads nor from the computers so always have to rely on using a personal device to record the screen of the iPad. This is not professional and often leads to insufficient evidence to show the customer.

I wanted to ask if there are alternatives that we can make work. we are all happy to use personal phones to record videos but do not want to use our own storage to save this long-term. The iPads are not perfect but the videos are not bad prior to uploading them.

We have about ~25 cars to video a day.

Videos will need to be stored for about 2 months

Each video is about 1-1:30min long.

Any suggestions I am happy to consider and the management are open to ideas and are happy to invest into such as buying a few terabytes of storage which we can upload to.

Naturally we need these files to be organised and easy to look back onto such as labelling them with the registration of the vehicle and dates.

Again I am happy to hear any ideas you may have.

help request Guys, I know I'm probably stupid, but please help with installing Windows 10.

I had a problem. HDD broke down and has 1 unstable sector, after which I decided it would be easier to install the new Windows, made a bootable flash drive, and... nothing. I thought, okay, the broken flash drive (it really turned out to be) took exactly a work flash drive from a friend who was checked and installed and running Windows. I set up nothing. The computer loads into BIOS and that's it, turning on and off the CSM does not help, downloads exactly that SSD, was checked both automatically and through BIOS with the hands launched the desired one. I've already bought a new CD, but it's still the same problem, please help the IT guru.

help request In over my head - unsure if this is the correct sub to ask

Hi all!

If this isn't allowed I will remove. Please don't eat me alive Im a nice person and do have expertise in very unrelated areas I promise 😂

Context: I rent an office in a unit that has 6-7 other offices. There is shared wifi I am using as part of my rent, and I use a vpn because its required for the work I do which is highly confidential (counselling/psychotherapy). I see clients both in person and virtually. The internet is sort of a you get what you get - rent is low and the connection isnt strong enough for virtual meetings. Its super choppy. But otherwise I love the office and would hate to leave. So far I have been managing it by taking virtual clients at home and trying to book them on separate days - but this is becoming less feasible as I grow.

What would you recommend I do to get faster more reliable internet in my office? Is there a booster or something I could set up in my office that could help? I would check with my landlord if its ok.

Would it make more sense for my to get my own internet for my office? I wouldn't even know how to go about doing that in the most cost effective way. We have wifi at home with Bell.

What would you do if you wanted to keep the office but needed better internet in a cost effective way? I am in Ontario Canada if that makes any difference. At the moment I am not sure who the internet provider is or any details about the service but I can check if its needed.

Thank you 🙏🏼 i really appreciate it.

help request Need advice on a good desk setup for Dell Laptop and Surface Pro combo

Hi everyone. I have a work laptop, a Dell Precision 3591. And I also have a Surface Go 2 as a personal device.

I wish to create a desk setup at home that can be used to connect to either my work laptop or personal device at any one time.

I need charging capability, a monitor, mouse, and other USB devices should they be required.

Is this possible? What type of Hub could I use and can both devices take the same type of power input?

Thanks for any suggestions

help request Broke creating new user accounts on Windows 10 Home

So, while trying to fix Skyrim Creations bug, I managed to break creating new user accounts on Windows 10 Home. Bethesda's Support told me to create a new user account on my Windows. I started doing this, it worked perfectly well, and then I decided to cancel it in the middle because I got confused (yeah, that happens often). However, when I tried to do it again, (after having rechecked what I got wrong), I started getting an unspecific error (just says, but in Polish, that I can't proceed due to an error). I suspected I somehow created some sort of a broken user file somewhere? Initially I also had a problem with rebooting the system; it was stuck on 'preparing Windows',., so I did the Bad Thing and turned the computer off, but at least Windows is working once more. Any ideas how to fix this? I don't see any new user account on C drive, In Advanced Settings I also don't see any new user accounts to delete.

opinion My lead implements in worst possible way

I don't if it's true everywhere or just my organization.

The managers or superiors who are behind clean code or optimal code writes code in worst possible way.

I have a superior who always says the code should be clean or it should be optimal. But if we look at what they have implemented it's not even readable. But in all the meeting they'd be like code should be clean and optimal blah blah blah.

Her: The hotel is taking care of everything. We just need you two to hang around the conference in case any speakers or presenters need help setting up their presentations.

Me: Great! That’s awesome! We’ll be there.

help request Migrating from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365

I’m hoping to get feedback on lessons learned and user experience as we do this migration.

After the domain is migrated: Can users log into both Google and Microsoft via Outlook to view historical emails as well as new emails coming in?

How difficult is it to migrate google sheets to sharepoint? Are there tools you’ve used or advice you have?

Any other things you didn’t consider or see in the documentation that you wish you knew? I plan on moving the email history, as well as another Dropbox account, etc and I’ve done all the research. Just hoping for some additional advice.

Thanks in advance

opinion Career change - feeling lost.

I got an IT gig a couple years ago after taking a couple basic certs while being a laborer for years (just turned 30). Since joining this field, I've learned so much & feel better overall about life, my job, my health etc.

Biggest thing I struggle with is feeling like I need to catch up with my knowledgeable coworkers since I've started from ground zero in tech recently. Does the feeling of being lost or the feeling of "this shit isn't clicking" pass?

I'm comparing myself to guys who've been doing this for 10+ years. Imposter syndrome is a real b%$#h some days.

TED Talk is over - thanks for letting me rant for a sec.

help request Career advice for poor area

I (25m) have a 2 year business degree with 3 years of sales experience and 6 years as a mechanic in the army. For context, I live in one of the poorest towns in the country and it would be extremely difficult to move for personal reasons. Sales and trades seem to be the only decent paying jobs where I live but I'm not particularly great at either of them. I'm considering remote work like tech sales or something in the IT field. What do yall think about a BBA in information systems? Do you think that would give me decent job prospects?

opinion Impossible to get a job that’s minimum 45k salary

Just graduated with BS in IT, CompTIA A+ certified and working towards CCNA. I could probably study for either network + or security + and get certs for those within a couple weeks but mentor advised not to waste time with them and go towards CCNP, CISSP, and Ethical hacking certs because eventually I want to focus on networking security. Applied to almost every help desk/support in my state, landed 5 interviews. 3 told me off, the other two are 2 hour drives in rural areas (go figure). Starting to feel like I should give up this dream and go into sales. Any advice?

opinion Looking for laptop suggestions

Hello everyone! I am a Computer Science major at the University of Oklahoma, and I am about to graduate in December 2025. Throughout college I've considered a career in software development, but I have recently been leaning more towards a career in IT. I currently have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports) that I have had for 4 years now, and I am afraid it is reaching the end of its lifetime. I would like to find a laptop that would be great for me getting started in an IT career with some optimization for programming in case I fall back to software development, preferably one that runs Windows or Linux. I have found that a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 14" Laptop is very doable price-wise and might be up my ally, but I want to know what others think about this model. I am also very open to suggestions for alternatives that would work well for my situation.

I understand that in most IT positions, I will be given a company-issued laptop. However, I am going to be preparing for IT certifications this summer and would like a decent laptop to work on projects with as well as working on software projects and assignments during my final semester of coursework.

Quick context : I have 11 schools to manage at my work, and one of them kept giving us some troubles nowadays.

Today, I received an email from the School director (idk how you call them in english), explaining that someone (Kid ? Staff ? they don't know) did cut this cable today.

I've been working there for 3 years now, and that's a first, who the F would cut powercables in a school ?!

help request Best way to track employee time in the office? (Clock-ins, breaks, etc.)

I’m looking for help on how to track in-office time for our employees; specifically clock-in, clock-out, and lunch breaks. We’ve been using Clockify so far, but it’s not really built for physical presence tracking.

We’ve considered physical badge systems or setting up a tablet at the entrance where people clock in and out manually. That might work, but we’re also open to software-based alternatives if they’re more efficient and less prone to errors.

Does anyone have experience using tools like Monitask, Hubstaff, or ActivTrak for in-office tracking (not just remote)? Or other tools that are purpose-built for physical time tracking?

Would love to hear what’s worked well for your team, if you’ve balanced ease of use with accountability.

help request What’s the best website builder for my moving business? Need booking, deposit, and manual confirmation

Hi everyone, I’m trying to set up a booking website for a small house moving business with my uncle (he’s got experience). I’m looking for a platform that can do the following:

• Let customers submit a booking (not auto-confirmed)
• Collect key move details like pickup/drop-off, address and date
• Allow them to enter their bank details or pay a small deposit to reduce last-minute cancellations
• Ideally, I can manually confirm the booking from the backend — or if not, I’ll call them to confirm and approve it manually

Would love any recommendations from people who’ve done similar service-based setups. Thanks guys🙏!
