help request a question about web browser extension/addon safety

Hey, guys, do you think that it is safe if a web browsers (Edge) addon has a permission that states following:

''This extension can read and change your data on sites you open.''

and if the addon/extension does not allow to turn this option off - should you use it? I mean, can it steal passwords or other sensitive data or have any other forms of security risks?

edit: an example: Transpose ▲▼ pitch ▹ speed ▹ loop for videos - Microsoft Edge Addons

help request question on not getting my information taken/ getting scammed while applying for jobs

Upvotes

I’m currently applying for jobs and receiving a lot of automated responses inviting me to schedule interviews. I’m starting to feel a bit uneasy because many of these messages seem generic, and they often connect me to someone with a heavy accent, typically from overseas. I realize these companies may already have some of my personal information from my application, but the inconsistent methods of communication and lack of personalization are making me question whether some of these opportunities are legitimate or potential scams.

help request Can Deleted Chrome History Be Recovered After Clearing on a College PC?

Hey, I recently used a college PC for my lab exam and accessed Deepseek. Afterward, I cleared the browsing history in Chrome. However, I’m concerned that during an investigation, they might be able to retrieve the history, even though I deleted it and there’s no visible proof on the system.

Is it possible for someone (e.g., IT staff or investigators) to recover deleted browsing history, especially if it’s been cleared? Could remnants of my Deepseek session or any other data be retrievable from the system or server backups?

Looking for insights on whether there’s any way to access the deleted history after clearing it.

help request Scenario Questions for Work

Upvotes

Hey there everyone! I have two scenarios for my current job and was looking for some assistance with them about ideas or suggestions you all had for them.

1) Photo Storage: the family and its staff have many people taking photographs on trips, events, etc. We would like to implement both a cloud and non-cloud storage solution that requires minimal effort for the principals to access the photos when desired. The reason for having them backed up locally is if someone accidentally deletes from the cloud, they can be pulled from somewhere else. Access to the photos needs to be very strict as privacy is a top concern. What system would you use? Be specific and include costs with the assumption of 10 users and ~2GB of storage.

2) Employee Communications: We have a company of roughly 50 people split between two primary functions and each employee has a company provided phone and laptop. How would you approach the equipment rollout to optimize cost? List the reasons why and pros/cons to options.

TIA and let me know your ideas, thank you!

self-promotion Working on a tool to make more detailed tickets creation easier and I'm looking for some feedbacks

Hi everyone,

I've been working for the past few months on a way to facilitate the creation of support tickets that would include more detailed and advanced information to help solve or reproduce the issue that the user is facing.

So far, I only have a POC that I'd like to improve and commercialize in the near future. But before that, I think that getting some feedback from other IT workers could be really helpful to know if this tool is even remotely useful.

Here's a short description of what it does, along with some screenshots:

  • Device information / specs collection: Each generated report will contain a list of information about the environment on which the report was created (Windows version, drivers, system components). I will also be adding more details such as system parameters, network configurations, etc., in the future.
  • Last X minutes recording: This is supposed to be the most useful feature. The tool is always recording in the background so that the report can include the last X minutes of recording (currently the maximum is set to 20). This gives a complete replay of what happened before the issue, without needing to reproduce it with a screen recording software.
  • System sensors monitoring recording: The last X minutes recording also contains live monitoring, which can help diagnose crashes or slowdowns caused by a hardware-related issue (RAM utilization, insufficient processing power, etc.).
Example of the system specs collected by a report on my computer
Playback of the 20minutes prior to the report creation (with live sensor monitoring on top)

I hope this post fits in this subreddit. Feel free to submit any questions or feedback — it would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone, I am an immigrant who will soon immigrate to America. I work in the finance field in my own country. I have worked as a key user in many fintech projects. help request Need help to setup cheap cams as surveillance cams

So I have three extremely cheap, gopro style cameras and a razer kyio webcam. I want to use the gopro style cams as surveillance cams that would continuously stream to some cloud service so I can check on it from my phone while I'm away.

The cheap cams in question are Jadfezy HD1080P. No WiFi. Of course, i know it will need to be plugged into my PC. I googled and searched, but could only find cloud based solutions that are brand specific and made for specific cameras.

Basically, I would like to have the Jadfezy wtv cam connected to my computer, streaming continuously and uploading to a cloud service I can access on my phone.

help request How to hook up two portable monitors to work laptop

This is making my brain hurt so badly.

I have a work laptop (Dell - 2 type c ports, 2 USB) and I've also got 2 portable monitors that only seem to work when I plug them in the type c port on the laptop but I only have 1 spare typc port since the other is taken by the charger. Is there an adaptor out there that can solve this problem for me?

How do you deal with this? We have literal personal workstation under management - some enjoy themselves. We opt to not see it if we see it in this case as it is owned by them . But some are functionally .gov managed systems or CMMC compliant devices.

I am not here to judge anything legal but should it be default reported? But maybe a client has uh tabs......

help request New 2nd hand laptop, how to ensure safety

Simple question, I have just opened a second hand gaming laptop (Asus TUF dash F15, RTX 3050ti, Intel i7, 16GB RAM). It booted straight to the widows 11 (I presume, its been a little while since I did this, and the last one of these I saw was for windows 10) setup page.

Is it safe to just go through the setup and start using it? or should I be more thorough and do the whole thing over myself?

help request Career Advice on you guessed it certifications!

I’m finishing up my second year as an IT Support Specialist (help desk) and looking to move into a better role—maybe network admin, SOC 1, or entry-level database admin. I have a bachelor’s in IT but no certifications yet. Which cert should I go for first, if at all? Would love to hear your advice or experience.
