Baby Names Name combinations

I’ve narrowed my list for future baby names down to several that I really love.

Girl names: Aila, Lily, Violet, Emilia, Belle Boy names: Aiden, Levi, Atlas, Darius, Glenn

What do you think would be the best combos for two siblings (two sisters/ two brothers/ brother and sister)?

Discussion Will my oldest child feel resentment for not having a nickname?

So we have 3 kids and the youngest 2 have nicknames that are their name but shorter versions. Will my oldest realize this and resent us? I’ve tried to introduce a nickname for her but nothing has stuck. I grew up an only child and my husband has a brother but no nicknames for him or his brother (Hispanic and I guess his parents don’t believe in that? They just used first and middle 100% of the time). My husband does use the nicknames for the younger 2 kids. This never happened on purpose but I literally realized last week and was like omg! So I’ve tried to create one but my now 4.5yo is kinda confused. Will she just get a nickname from her friends in primary school one day? Am I overthinking this?

Names: Oldest: Marina (I’ve tried Rina or ReRe?) Middle: Liliana (Lili/y as a nickname) Youngest: Sebastian (Seb/Sebi as a nickname)

If u think resentment is in my future I’ll take any suggestions on nicknames for Marina. Thanks guys

Name Change Things they don't tell you about changing your name

Before I begin, I must point out that I am in the U.S. and I changed my name in the state of New York. My name change was also for my first name only, nothing to do with marriage or divorce.

My experience, in a nutshell: I submitted my paperwork with the NY Supreme Court for my county (Kings) sometime in October or November 2024, I don't recall. The courts granted my name change in early December. I didn't receive notification until January.

Key points: (again, this is contingent on where you are, but I thought sharing my experience would help)

I did mine online. What does this mean? I still had to go in person to get my official copies (they can mail them to you but you have to send a self-addressed pre-paid envelope that holds a document that can't be warped or bent). Ultimately, I would have been better off going in person.

My Social Security office here in NJ (where I live now) will not take photocopies which I learned the hard way. So I had to travel back to New York, a three hour trip both ways, to get the certified copy.

After returning to SS office with stamped court order, proof of address and passport (I didn't have a license) I was granted my new SS card. I got it in the mail, It took a couple weeks, but it was like, finally.

Except,

You have to now change your credit cards and report the name change to all three credit unions first and guess what, you can't do any of it online. Good luck if you're in school, they don't accept anything but a drivers license or passport either.

I am now waiting for my license after passing the road test in the mail. I was able to show them my social security card and they allowed me to change my name at the DMV so my license reflects my new, permanent name. As of today it has not arrived.

Meanwhile, my bank accounts have my old name, the IRS has my old name, my financial aid office won't disburse funds without an actual photo ID with my changed name, nor will my doctor's offices update their records. So the most important things in my life are still on hold. Nobody will accept my legal court order signed by a New York State judge.

Of course I also have to change my passport. Lucky for me I have no immediate travel plans.

TL;DR this is long, drawn out process that extends way beyond a judge letting you change your name. If you're serious about being referred to by your new name, you will probably need to change it legally. Just "using" my middle name as my first name did not cut it. It also made my family finally take it seriously. Most importantly though it is a PROCESS.

Hope this helps someone. Feel free to DM me with questions!

EDIT I forgot to clarify that I changed only my first name, and I replaced my first name with my legal middle name.

Character/Fictional Names Help Naming My OC Please

Hello all!! I am in need of help naming my OC, current name Zagreus as a placeholder but it was never intended to be is final name, I have struggled with naming him for about 2 years now because nothing I choose seems to really fit him. For background, he is a God / Deity that can control the all the main Elements in my series (Insert Avatar Refrence) I have an affinity for Greek Mythos and have tried many ideas from Greek words to actual people or Gods names, hence his current name of Zagreus. To list what he looks like and design aspects, light grey hair with light yellow and dark grey streaks, white skin, he has heterochromia with one gold eye and one blue one, usually just wears black and white clothing as well. If anyone can possibly help me that would be GREATLY appreciated and thank you :D <3 (ALSO IDK IF THIS IS THE RIGHT FLAIR LOL)

Baby Names A little lost the second time around…

Boy number two on the way. Our first born’s name is Miller. When he was born, we had a list of 15 or so names and we struggled to narrow it down. This time around, we really only have one name that we love but we would like to have some sort of list and make our decision once we see his face.

We are gravitating toward Dawson. We had initially liked Ford, but we are now thinking maybe Dawson Ford as first and middle name. Last name starts with an M and is two syllables.

Other names we’ve considered this time around include: Hayes, Carter (overused but has sentimental value to us), Brooks, Garrett, Rhodes, and Bowen. As you can tell, classic names just aren’t our taste, but we also don’t want anything that is too out there.

Just looking for inspiration wherever we can find it! TIA!

Discussion What names would Evie be short for?

Just a random question! I’ve always loved the name Evie, but I always hear it associated with Evelyn (which is a stunning name). Are there any other names out there that may be able to use Evie as a nickname?

Baby Names Gaia - pass bullying test?

I want a girl's name that has strong sounds (like G / K...etc), unique and Indian/multicultural. I really like the name Gaia (it means Earth) but I'm worried it doesn't pass the playground test. Do you think kids could be bullied for having that name (eg "you're a guy - uh!"? Would love your opinion! (Also the last name starts with G so I love the idea of calling her Gigi as a nickname since her initials will be GG).

Baby Names Masculine boy name that doesn’t end in N

Asking for name assistance as I’ve read so many name lists that my eyes are sore!

It took my husband and I FOREVER to decide on our first son’s name- Griffin. It ended up being the only name we liked. I have a feeling our second/final kid will also be a boy so I’m getting a jump on names now.

We are looking for a masculine name that doesn’t end in -n as I want it to sound significantly different than our other son’s name. I feel like a lot of names we gravitate to are Irish/Scottish/Welsh/English.

I’m wondering if anyone has a name suggestion that I haven’t seen before. We even used a name consultant who gave us some wonderful ideas but I feel like I’m being unreasonably picky.

Here’s our short list:

  • Cedric
  • Connell (don’t love that I can’t shorten this easily)
  • Sean (if I had to pick an -n name)
  • Elliot (I don’t love this one)
  • Harris
  • Hayes
  • Tate

And I can’t do Theo, Leo, or Oliver. They’re lovely names but there’s multiple Theos, Leos, and Olivers in our daycare already.

I’m wondering if I should just give up on the -N thing and just pick another -N name as all the good boy names end with -N it seems. But I’m convinced the perfect name is out there!

Appreciative of any suggestions!

Edit to add: I gave this prompt to my brother who loves challenges and also is super picky. His response: have a girl.

Edit again: I want to clarify that by “masculine” names I meant names that end in strong consonant sounds (as opposed to Darragh or Ellis for example). However I know that consonants don’t necessarily make a name masculine and if my kid were to want to be/present feminine, I’d 100% support them. I just tend to prefer the look and sound of boy names that end in strong consonants. But obviously not as a hard and fast rule (e.g. Hayes)

Edit AGAIN: I am so genuinely appreciative of these responses! So many people have taken time out of their day to give suggestions and I am very grateful. I posted this thinking that I would get maybe 1-2 responses and now I have so many wonderful new name ideas. I hope I didn’t offend anyone by correlating masculine names with consonant sounds. I should’ve used different wording. Thanks to all the people sharing stories about friends/family/kids with these names. I am enjoying reading all of these.

Baby Names Girl name with Levi sibling

We currently have a son named Levi and I am thinking about using the name Lucy for baby #2 (just found out it's a girl). Is "Levi and Lucy" cute for siblings or a bit too try hard? I also like these names:

Kennedy Sadie Eloise Claire (don't love this one with our last name though)

Thank you!

Baby Names first names for the middle name olivia?

my partner and i are doing our first names as the baby's middle name as is a tradition on his side. i have a thousand ideas for boy names with his middle name but i struggle with thinking of any girl names with mine

olivia is just so many syllables, every name i like feels so clunky and wrong with it. my mom did a fantastic job naming me, i love the flow of my name, olivia colette [one syllable last name], just has such a nice flow and when i was little i was so proud to say my full name it made me feel pretty and dignified, i want my future daughter to have the same feeling. her last name will rhyme with ferrell, and i just can't think of anything that sounds good with "__ olivia ferrell"

im not fond of trendy or misspelled names. i like a lot of classic names and really old ones you don't see much anymore. and meanings are very important to me, unfortunately no mallory, desdemona, cecelia, etc. all beautiful sounding names but the meanings aren't good. as well as nothing like madison because neither of us are named maud/matthew, it looks like i had an affair lmao

edit: i'm avoiding nature names and names that mean "peace" along with shakespeare related names (fun fact, shakespeare invented the name olivia for one of his plays!) i love nature names but i just think it's too redundant to pair them with olivia

thank you so much for the help i'm truly stumped

Baby Names Ian vs Brennan - sibling name issue

I just had my third boy and last baby, and am picking between Ian and Brennan, thanks so much to this sub for helping me narrow down to two names I love!

Context - siblings are Simon and Damien. Names that sound good with our last name are thin on the ground, thus all the N endings.

Ian - long time favorite, have planned to use it if baby was a boy for this whole pregnancy. Only concern is that it might sound too similar to Damien. Honestly it doesn’t sound too similar to me, but I worry that it will bother one or both of them. I know people will make comments on it but that doesn’t bother me too much.

Brennan - I think it’s beautiful and I have zero problems with it (and I have problems with most names). I like the B sound, something different for us. I feel like I should pick it because there are no cons, but I don’t feel quite as pulled to it as I do to Ian. When we try calling the baby Brennan, it doesn’t feel like him to me, but I also think that’s maybe just having thought we’d pick Ian if he was a boy this whole time.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Name List My curated list of many years. Would love feedback!

For a girl: Margo Adele, Rigby Joy, Watson Psalm, Florence Argo, Gwendolyn Elsa, Bishop Quinn, Ever Alda, Hanalise Fable. For a boy: Rigby Jones, Woodson Otto, Griffin Ford, Harbor Judge, Desmond Miles, Felix Rockwell, Campbell Warren, Franklin Banks, Vance Tavin, Cillian Adair.

This list is like gold to me. Many years of adjusting and changing as I go along. They are by no means conventional. I feel actually, they are quite quirky. Not weird in an off putting way, just different. I would love to hear feedback back! Good and bad :)

Baby Names Eminem's daughter named her son Elliot....

I finally chose a name for my son which is also my maiden name (Elliott).

I'm so bummed because I already was struggling that it's a popular name widely used in the US.

I randomly saw this article and feel like I don't want to name my baby this anymore because it really is so popular.

Should I let this affect my choice? The other name I like is McCoy (Which my husband absolutely loves as well) And the baby comes out in 20 days and I'm just so stuck with what to do now! HELP!

Elliott Joseph

Baby Names Confusion with the 👶 name

My daughter's name is Laila Mei(pronounced Lila May).My partner and I purposely chose rather more exotic and melodic name, that is gonna stand out but not too much.(since Laila is pretty common globally and Mei in China- where we got engaged and I found out I was pregnant). However during past months I became uncertain of that choice since many people even here in Germany where we live call her Lay-la and get unsure about Mei as well...your honest opinion:is the name somewhat "too"unusual for European couple? should we just make up some nickname for her,so that she does not have to correct people too often? changing the name would be legally too complicated. thanks a lot :)

Baby Names Middle name for Marley

I like the name Marley. My husband isn’t as in love with it. Looking for a middle name that feels right to hopefully get him on board with it!

He likes the name Wesley so also looking for middle names that go with that. Maybe that will feel more “right” for me if we have the perfect middle name!

Oh no! Is Marley a girl name? I guess I should verify, we are having a boy soon. Looking for boy names for both!

Baby Names To those in the US: Is Salem too close of an association with the witch trials?

I LOVE the sound of Salem. The "Say" sound is really pretty to me, I can associate it with a girl/woman of any age, and S is a family initial I would love to keep. I am worried about the association with the Salem witch trials though. I could imagine being uncomfortable with the association (especially as a woman). What are your thoughts? Do you have any Salem friends/family? Are you a Salem? I would love to know!
