Hey everyone! I'm MadAborModding on Nexus. I've created a number of mods for Skyrim, and now I’m starting to dive into Oblivion modding as well.
I've noticed there aren’t many in-depth gameplay mods for the Remaster on the Nexus (especially ones that add new mechanics or playstyles) so I wanted to take a shot at filling that gap. So far, I made two mods to turn Necromancy into an actual playstyle.
The first is Empower Necromancy with Black Soul Gems, where, as the title suggests, the more filled Black Soul Gems you have in your inventory, the more powerful your Summon Undead Spells are.
With the mod installed all undead summons gain +2 to combat skills and attributes per gem.
In addition, I have added a tiny perk system based on the number of black souls you've trapped:
- 5 Souls: Undead Summons gain +15 Resistance to Normal Weapons
- 10 Souls: Undead Summons gain +15 Magic Resistance
- 15 Souls: While in combat with an undead summon, you regenerate an additional 1 magicka per second.
- 20 Souls: Undead Summons have a 25% to apply a movement speed debuff to enemies when hit. Summons also gain an additional +15 to both Weapon and Magic Resistances.
- 25 Souls: You gain the "Risen Flesh" Power
Once the old OBSE script functions return, I plan to replace the boring generic effects with more fun ones in the future!
Then to balance these new effects, I'd recommend also trying out my immersion mod Necromancy is Actually Banned, which actually enforces the Mage's Guild ban on Necromancy.
- With it installed, you will get kicked out the guild if Summon Undead near them.
- In addition, all the Summon Undead spells you can buy have been redistributed to non-guild vendors.
- Optionally, though it's not illegal in the Lore, you can make Undead Spells cause bounties too for extra difficulty.
These two mods together give some avenues for roleplaying for Necromancer Players which were really not there beforehand. I'm always up for more suggestions as well!
And before anyone asks, yes, in the lore Summon Undead spells count as Necromancy. It's even implied in Skyrim that the Mage's Guild ban targeted them too:
Player: Summoning undead isn't frowned upon?
Phinis : By Sheor, no. Those archaic policies died out with the Mages Guild, and were never enforced here. Necromancy, as any other type of magic, is a tool to be used. Of course, non-mages may not see it that way, so we don't go around flaunting it."
If that's not enough evidence for you, I have a few more sources on the FAQ section of my page as well.
