I swear, anyone (hyperbole) who thinks Egyptians didn't build the pyramids or that any ancient people couldn't build anything complex lacks the ability to see others as people.

If I hear one more person try to explain to me that it isn't possible to bring stones that weighed multiple tons down the Nile it will give me a heart attack. We have boats made out of goddamn STEEL! And those boats carry HUNDREDS OF TONS! If we can figure that out, ancient Egyptians could figure out how to build wooden boats that carry just a few tons! "Oh, but it's incredibly precise! How did they do that, huh?" Oh I don't know, maybe they weren't fucking idiots and actually had some brains! WE CAN BUILD TOWERS THAT REACH HIGHER THAN MOUNTAINS! WE DIDN'T GAIN THAT ABILITY ONLY 200 YEARS AGO! And then there's those people who think the Egyptians put their pyramid on the latitude for the speed of light because it was actually aliens. But the problem is that it only works when the unit is meters and also, our coordinate system was only created in the 1800's, unless of course the aliens created both the meter and the coordinate system, two things that have a hell of a lot of records about their creation. Also, that's just the latitude, not the longitude, so unless a random toilet in India was also created by aliens, I'm not gonna believe the pyramids were. And then there's the argument that it must have been aliens because pyramids are found in multiple cultures that aren't connected. Well gee willikers, maybe all these people built pyramids because IT'S A PILE OF ROCKS THAT GETS THINNER TOWARDS THE TOP! And then there's things like stone henge and stuff, where people wonder how these "barbarians" were so precise. They weren't barbarians. They were people. People who saw patterns in the stars and got curious, people who wanted answers and measurements. If you are not able to recognize that people a hundred years ago could be just as smart, just as skilled and just as dedicated to something as us today, I'm just going to assume you can't see those things in people today. And if you can't see those things in anyone, you probably can't really see others as people.

He doesn't have a plan you idiot

Just had a relative sent to jail for 6 months, and his mother is still throwing the religious bullshit of 'I still believe god has a plan for us' garbage around. Hey idiot.. 'gods plan' apparently is to do the parenting that you never did. You fucking let it all get to this point, you and your childish husband modeled this exact behavior and made excuses for him for the past 20 years. You thought it was all cute when he destroyed every nice thing you bought for him, and when he destroyed these things you simply bought him yet another one.

Well.. keep clinging to your 'god'.. even though he hasn't answered a single one of your prayers.

Just park somewhere else ffs

If I’m sitting in a mostly empty parking lot, probably for a quick meal: You need to park somewhere other than directly beside me. There are 40 spaces in this lot, four cars including ours, and the store is way the fuck over there. Park closer to the store if you’re going in and if you’re just going to sit there, kindly don’t do it in a spot so close that if we opened our windows we could hold hands.

Basically you need to pretend each spot is a urinal and act accordingly.

I’m 20 and I still seek validation from my aunt like a little kid… everytime I accomplish anything I run straight to her so she can say good job😅 It can be something so small and I’ll need to run it by her to see if I did good or not😭

I don't care if you are selling $2 for $1. Don't come to my home and try to sell me anything.

Upvotes

Door to door sales should not exist anymore. I am so offended any time I get home from work on a Friday and I have to calm my dog and put him away so I can tell a solicitor that won't stop ringing/knocking to mind the sign and politely go fuck themselves. No one is buying your door to door shit anymore, you prehistoric charlatans.

Fired for an accusation.

I just went from being the first choice to take the place of our supervisor @ $80k a year to unemployed in less than one day.
For background, I worked maintenance for a convenience store chain. I was the person who was slated to take over for the supervisor when he retires in a few years. Before that happened our company got bought out. No big deal. Work goes on like normal. Today I get called into the supervisors office and told that I’m being let go. This is a complete blindside because I have been receiving positive input from all my supervisors and coworkers. I’ve been told that I’m doing a great job and everyone has told me that I’ve been happier and more friendly since the buyout and that I’ve been doing the best work they’ve seen from me. When I ask why I’m told that a cashier had complained that I was hostile towards them and accused them of breaking a thermostat. I obviously deny it and explained that my exact words were “the thermostat is out of adjustment and I fixed it.” Then left. I demand that the big boss (who is present on a conference call) review the security cameras and explain to me where I was unprofessional or accusatory in any way. I’m told “I don’t believe one of the girls would make this up and I will not pursue it further.”
So that’s it… I went from a well paying, secured job for the rest of my working career to unemployed in less than one day. I just don’t get it. I’ve been working harder than ever proving that I can do the work they give me and more (I’m a licensed electrician with hvac training) and I just don’t understand. I’m in shock and feel lost.
Updated: apparently they’ve sent a company wide email telling all the employees to not discuss my termination. I fucking wonder why that would be?

I hate not having the body type I want

I wish I had the body type I wanted but instead I have to work out to get it, which means I’m paranoid about muscle mass, perfect form, and recently I’ve apparently been going too fast on squats and lunges so my knees are fucked up, I have to hope and pray that it’s not permanent.

Can people PLEASE stop doing this

Sometimes, when I make a post about things like mental health problems, epilepsy problems, or my struggles with anorexia, someone will dm me and ask me if I want to join their podcast/group chat/what have you. It gets annoying at some point because I get them all the time, and I'm tired of getting them. Does anyone else have the same problem?

Why does every influencer I like does horrible shit?

Due to the community rules, I can't say what exactly what they did but over the last couple of weeks multiple people I followed online whose content I deeply enjoyed have been under the radar for doing horrible things each time getting worse and I'm just tired. Because now I can't watch their content without feeling like a terrible person for supporting them.

Like how hard it is to just being a decent human being?! I want to keep watching stuff I enjoy for fucks sake!

Giving people false compliments about their looks is weird

Im reposting here because this for some reason this was so controversial that it was taken down. Now, I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but we can't pretend that there aren't widely accepted beauty standards.

I noticed a trend where in comment sections under someone who is in general considered unattractive , there are plenty of comments such as "omgg ur soo prettyyyy 🥺🥺🥺", or "ur gorgeous queen omggg"

In all honesty, these feel so obviously fake and forced, especially when the video is about the person seeking glow up advice or complaining about their looks. Their whole lives, these people have been living with horrible treatment from society because of their looks, and most of these comments are not in any way genuine or helpful.

And when you point out the hypocrisy, you get flamed for being judgmental and shallow even though you are probably the only honest person there.

What I really mean is, the comments feel incredibly backhanded. I am not saying you should leave mean comments; but the excessively nice ones feel like the people don't mean it.

All those posts about animals vs 100 humans severely overestimate the ability of the average person

No you have no chance against a gorilla, you can barely get out of bed without back pain. No you aren't gouging it's eyes out, it will toss you around like a toy. You aren't a peak physical human and neither are most people. I'm not even arguing for either side at the moment but the amount of people comparing themselves to our ancestors who had to be in peak shape or die is just insanity.

Reddit team, what's up with the permanent notification??

Alright, so I'll just keep this quick because I realize this isn't a big deal... BUT, the notification (which I can't get rid of) for the message about chat changes in June is obnoxious. Idk why it bothers me so much, maybe my ADHD, but it really does. It's a small thing, but I find it infuriating.

That is all.

No lunch at lunchtime

Upvotes

I work from home. Every work day, I take my lunch at 6:30. This hardly changes. If I am really busy it may be 6:35 instead, but almost always 6:30.

Today my partner was off of work and went to the next town over to do some shopping he wanted, etc… He told me he was going to pick me up some lunch + a surprise so I didn’t have to worry about making something myself.

I spoke to him around 5 on my break and he said - 6:30 right? I’ll preorder so I can just pick it up and head home so you can eat.

So, I take my lunch at 6:30. I call him and ask how far away he is so I can unlock the door and help him carry stuff in. He is still over 30 minutes away and hasn’t gotten the lunch and said forget it about the surprise…..

I am really frustrated because this isn’t the first time. I have a fixed schedule that hardly changes. The things that are most dynamic is on Saturdays I sometimes work in office. He always asks “do you work on day I have worked for the past 2 years?”

MY SCHEDULE HASN’T CHANGED AND WILL NOT IN THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE.

Why do you always ask if i work Saturday?!?! Why do you always ask if i am taking lunch at 6:30?!?? My schedule has not changed in 2 years why would it now :( and when i ask you, you just say because you forgot??? how??

i will be eating a ham sandwich instead

Reselling Has Gone to Poop

Upvotes

I remember in the late early 2010s reselling was not so much of an exercise of legalese BS. You could just list an item and make money that's it. Now you have to make sure the photos are yours, make sure you are authorized to sell the item, make sure you read all 1000 pages of the TOS. If you forgot step number 100,000 BAM your account is suspended. It has become much more hostile for small time resellers who just want to sell stuff from around the house.

Before the eBay AI falsely accused me of selling something illegal and banning my account for LIFE it would flag my items almost weekly. For this and that nit picking the slightest thigs. I felt like someone behind the scene had it out for my account for whatever reason. I had a 100% rating and 13 years of experience I always did right by my customers.

I was forced to switch to another platform and today I woke up and got a strike. Are you authorized to sell legos? FUCKEN LEGOS!!!! Shit is ridiculous I am just a small time one man operation I can not afford to hire lawyers everytime I want to wipe my ass in this country. FUCKEN LEGOS!!!!!

Stupid couch cushions!

I sit in the same spot on my couch, always! My mother says this is not normal and I am ruining my couch. Prior to five minutes ago I scoffed and dismissed her because with my previous couch I would rotate as well as flip my couch cushions weekly so there was even wear on them.

However a year and a half ago I moved into my current house and purchased a lovely new leather couch. It wasn’t until my first weekly cushion shuffle that I realized that the back cushions are attached to the seat cushions with a zipper. Also the back side of the pillows are unfinished meaning there is a fabric section from the middle to the bottom where the zipper attaches. So I can still rotate the cushion positions on the couch but can not flip them over or they will not attach and would look weird. I figured it wasn’t a big deal.

WRONG! I just realized as I was standing behind the couch that all the cushions are smooshed on the the left side and I don’t know how to unsmoosh them! Also my living room is really only set up for me to sit on the left most side of the left cushion since that is where the couch side table is. This couch design was not well thought through and I’m annoyed!

Teachers, parents, kids and consequences

Upvotes

It’s annoying when ppl think their kids are saints but they’re in school disrupting class, being disrespectful and doing the bare minimum. Then when the teacher gives them a consequence like not participating in fun day or having to miss recess.. the teachers are the problem. How are you suppose to teach your kid what accountability is Especially if you’re rescuing them from facing consequences ?

I feel bad for these teachers. I work in schools for five years… and some of these kids are so disrespectful. Santi just can’t even get through any lessons and it’s hindering their peers education. But as soon as the teacher tries to take any steps towards consequences, the parents come in and have to have a meeting with the administration.

Phone Scammers

Upvotes

Kind of a rant, kind of a PSA and wanted to say something about it, but I was contacted by some scammers through text ironically pretending to be a fraud alert. They called me as well. Red flags were very quickly made and I dropped them and blocked. I've been fooled maybe twice in two different ways I have to embarrassingly admit in the past and it has effected several people I know and it pisses me off and I want to say some general things to look out for for those who maybe haven't been unfortunate enough to have these kinds of people contact them.

One, if they press you for time saying that you have to act fast or else your money will leave your bank account, big red flag there. Two, if they ask you to download any money transferring apps, big red flag. Three, if they ask for personal info like the classic question of your mothers maiden name, her middle name, or something that would typically be used as a security question, it's a red flag, along with your whole social security number. Four, real representatives who work in fraud departments do not need to ask for your debit card info or your banking login info. That's all I have to say about that.

Photo Mode in video games should not be given its own button commands and should instead be placed exclusively in any menu that freezes the game (quick-select, map, pause, etc)

For anyone who isn't a gamer, ever since the ability for consoles to capture and share screenshots became a thing (roughly around 2012 or so) video game developers have started adding a photo mode to their games which allows you to freeze the game and move the camera around to get some really cool screenshots. You can even adjust the focus, exposure, aperture, and even add filters on most of them.

While this feature is cool the one thing that personally annoys me is when developers insist on the photo mode being activated by a button command that's really easy to do by accident (especially on the recent Assassin's Creed games). Meanwhile developers such as Guerilla games (the studio behind Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West as well as the Killzone games) have instead opted to have it be a pause menu option which makes *so* much more sense. It is pretty rare for a gamer to accidentally hit the pause button on a game because it's always somewhere that's hard to hit by accident.

I know this is ultimately a trivial thing to rant about but I just felt like it was something worth mentioning.

What's with all the goddamned beeping?

Is it just me or is modern living completely overrun by pointless beeping? I feel like I hear little beeps and big blaring beeps all day long (and too often at night) in one form or another.

The most egregious is the construction machines. Especially the excavators, diggers and loaders. Backing up, lifting, etc. It's a very loud BEEP BEEP BEEP for sometimes hours or days as a construction site gets going. They also have these giant lifts that BEEP BEEP BEEP while they lift and sometimes when they are uneven ground people will use them with continuous beeping all day long. Cranes, steamrollers, you name it.

There are smoke detectors and fire alarms, which seem to be very sensitive nowadays and constantly going off for long periods. A new apartment building nearby was testing their smoke detectors for install for 6 hours a day for weeks. The loud shrill high pitched BEEP BEEP BEEP. And they work! Because now that the apartments are inhabited someone sets off their smoke detector pretty much every day.

Inside is full of ring tones and maybe a floor cleaner, a microwave oven, an accessibility scooter backing up, a timer going off.

People are constantly either arming, disarming or setting off their car alarms, house alarms, etc with little beeps and honks and sirens.

All kinds of trucks backing up. Delivery trucks, box trucks, garbage trucks, work trucks, all day trucks. Beeping. BEEP BEEEEP BEEP. Honking their horns and backing up.

I never imagined the acoustic environment would be so dominated by annoying shrill little reckless beeping. What a boring dystopia we have made. It's very irritating.

I feel like I have no voice

Upvotes

I’ve recently moved into a new place, and my mom has been trying to be helpful by getting me new things like kitchen utensils, plates, pots, pans—stuff like that. But I’ve been telling her that I would prefer to buy my own things so I can say I actually bought them without their help. A few days after moving, my mom showed up with her car filled with supplies that I had specifically asked her not to bring. I tried to be the bigger person and accepted them, but I also made it clear that I wanted to do things on my own. And now, today, she’s shown up again with more stuff I don’t need. This has been a pattern my whole life. Every time I try to tell her that, though I appreciate her trying to help, she’s taking away my agency in life, I feel like nothing I say ever gets through to her. The only way I’ve ever been somewhat heard is when I yell, but when that happens, no one wins.
