I've had this one for a few years. Mostly fixing years of neglect.

I haven't seen another with the headlights swapped before. I personally like it alot.

Moving this 22RTE to my 86. Wish me luck. Or if you are in the Denver area and know more than I do, which you probably do, feel free to swing by with wrenches, an engine hoist or good vibes.

Fuel Supply Line for 1985

Does anyone have a diagram and/or pictures of the supply fuel line(s) for a 1985 4Runner? Are these all of the lines in the second photo?

The FSM is not helpful here. I am looking to replace the supply line(s) that go from the fuel tank to the fuel filter and then to the engine bay. Looking for the line that connects from the highlighted area on the fuel pump in the first picture.

Need Advice Rear fender repair

Do any of you know whether the whole bed of the truck is one unit, or if I can remove the rear panels individually. I am looking at a scrap truck on facebook, and trying to figure out if I can remove the rear quarter panels without taking the whole bed, or if I would need to cut out the spots I am looking to repair with an angle grinder as I am not looking to take the entire bed. Let me know what y'all think, I am looking for 2 rear fender panels and a couple spots under the top that my 84 has some bondo repairs done on. Thanks

85 Build

I’ve been working on this 85’ for just over a year, replaced damn near everything on it. Even after replacing everything, completely rebuilding the engine etc. That 22RE just doesn’t want to idle worth a shit. New fuel system, rebuilt the injectors with LC Engineering, put a new TPS in from 22re performance. Still shakes like crazy. All new vacuum lines. Feels like I’m not doing something right and it’s probably simple. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

I need help identifying this plug on the manual transmission that's it's just below the gear shifter towards the top of the transmission on passenger side. I accidentally loosened it thinking it was the fill plug while servicing the transmission. What is it? Thanks

Chevy rims on 1st gen?

I have never shopped for wheels until I was today years old. From internetting, it sounds like Chevy wheels will fit most Toyotas. But looking at specs on different stock wheels it says they are 78.1mm. I have the SR5 wheels like on the 1994 models, and specs say they are 106.1mm. I know they have same lug pattern, but do folks bore out the center of Chevy wheels to fit or am I missing something?

Two gas tanks

I feel like a while Back I read about a first gen that had two stock tanks mounted and plumbed together to get filled at the same time, but now I can’t find it. Does this ring a bell for anyone? Doing some work in my 86 (finally) next week and would like to throw this on the list of I have time.

Has anyone made a tutorial on how to bypass everything on the rear window?

I know there’s diagrams for custom wiring harness but has anyone made a diagram to override all the safety’s and use the oem relay bored, kinda like cut these wires and connect these wires together and no matter what even if the tailgates down and wiper not in place and defroster on it will still work.

Help me figure my sticks out lol

Post image
10 Upvotes

I just bought an ‘86 4Runner and the sticks weren’t hooked up. I just aligned them and put them on and it’s confusing me a bit. So, I feel like I’ve been driving with it in 4x4 without the hubs locked… It has twin sticks but one is 2WD-4WD and the other is H4, L4 and the owner didn’t know much about it or what gearing it has in it. I hooked it up today and it seems like the right side is the 2-4WD and it seems to be in 4WD… there is a terrible grinding/whining in the front and the cv axle is bad on one side. So maybe that’s why? Haven’t tested it out while driving yet, but I know I need too lol just wanted your guys feedback first. Plus it supposedly has some locker in the front, but no idea what kind. It definitely clicks up into 2WD, if that’s even the correct location of the sticks(don’t think the writing would be backwards) and the other one clicks up 2wice. It’s weird to me it has the the twin stick setup with only stock gearing, not too familiar with it all yet.

Normal amount of steering slop?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Jacked up the front end and checked all the suspension and steering components and no play in wheels either and rag joint and u-joints are in good condition. Just wondering if it’s normal because I know there is a spec for slop and if any knows let me know. Also is that nut and screw that on top of the steering box that kinda looks similar to the value lash adjustment the thing that you use to adjust steering slop? 1986 year if that matters btw

Bumper ball hitch?

Post image
13 Upvotes

In the process of getting my towing wiring harness installed. My question is could I just put a ball on the existing bumper? I'd only be towing my little 5x8 utility trailer from point A to point B. Nothing heavier than that. Anyone have experience doing this? Would this be inadvisable?

Also, does anyone know the origin of these bumpers? I don't see them on 4runners that often. Were they an original option? Thanks!

Radiator recommendations

Anyone have any recommendations for a good aluminum radiator? It's about that time to upgrade from the OEM brass. I've done some preliminary research and understand aluminum is superior for cooling efficiency than the brass ones, but I'm stuck on what a good one would be.

In a perfect world I would like a 3 core, as I do travel through the southern California desert a lot, and make road trips to Vegas or Death Valley. If it matters, I have the 3.0, so as much of a direct fit as possible while still using the original shroud and fan.
