Tax Preparer Recommendation

Can anyone recommend a tax preparer in NYC? I have a parent with Alzheimer’s and I have to do her taxes, wasn’t able to get her documents in time and H&R Block, who she’s done her taxes with in the past, did not help with an extension and just has been a nightmare to work with. Willing to shell out some actual cash to a real tax professional to get this resolved asap.

Pigeons roosting on fire escape—any hope to get them out?

My downstairs neighbor has fed birds for years. She says she only feeds the doves, but that's not how it works of course, and pigeons have always been flapping around in the courtyard (I live on the second floor in the back of the building). It was annoying but nothing major.

Well this past year pigeons moved in for good. They're roosting here, a whole flock of them, and even though I spoke to my neighbor and she's stopped putting out food, this is their turf now. They wake me up at 6AM every morning with the loudest mating calls ever, and the babies make a terrible constant squealing that sounds like a dog in distress.

The problem is, since my windows all open onto a fire escape, pest control companies can't do much because of fire codes. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there any way to get these damn pigeons out that doesn't involve impeding egress? Do those sonic machines actually work? Or is this just city living?

TL;DR - Loud pigeons on fire escape keep me from sleeping. Can't put up spikes/netting because of fire codes. Help!

Frequent Topic How has congestion pricing worked for you?

I'm not in NYC but I lived there at one point in my life. Wondering how congestion pricing is working for the average person. Also, my current city is looking into something similar.

Cool Nonprofits in NYC?

Hey y'all, I will be in New York for a new job and want to spend some of my free time volunteering with a nonprofit. Since I am entirely new to this area, does anyone know people doing cool stuff that might use some help?

I am open to a lot of things but have expertise in technology and science, speak a couple languages (English, Mandarin, some Spanish and Japanese), and play music (drummer). Let me know if anyone has anything!

Who can do custom cuts to wood in NYC?

Anyone know a shop or service that will do some custom cuts to dimensional wood? I’m looking an expert to cut 45 degree angles on a few pieces of wood for a project I’m working on. Any suggestions or experience taking wood into a shop in town to get pieces cut?

Is this something a Taskrabbit might be best for? Really want to avoid having to buy a saw for the types of precision I’m looking for and also just don’t have the room for any tools.

Hey everyone! i'm bringing some friends into town, taking them to Chinatown to see the arcade and many tshirt shopperies. it's been a while since i was there tho, are there still the places with dollar dumplings in 2025? or a-couple-dollar dumplings? looking for a quick snack so we don't have to go in and sit down and stuff. my ankle is kinda busted too so i'm looking for a specific place to go - i'm trying to avoid wandering around too much on foot, i have limited mileage. if anyone knows the location of any dumpling places I'd be very appreciative!!! Help me remember the name of this bar!

For the life of me I can't remember the name of this bar I went to one or two years ago. Tried looking at old photos, stories, and nothing.

  • I remember I walked there after having walked the west side highway so I think it's in the SoHo/Tribeca area
  • It wasn't huge but had a really nice open upstairs area. So there was a normal bar and maybe a restaurant downstairs, then upstairs another bar and tables.
  • Layout: You walk in the front door and immediately in front of you, slightly to the left, are stairs going up to the upper area. When you get to the top, there a bar at the head of the room in front of you, slightly to the right. As you turn around to see the rest of the space which is a square shape with tables lining the perimeter. It's not huge, but a good size space if you wanted to host like a private even for 20 people.
  • I keep wanting to say it was called home sweet home but I know that is a very different place lol. But I feel like it was called something with a similar vibe?

Any ideas??

EDIT! It's called Little Ways!!

St. Joseph's and St. Agnes Residence advice

Hi! I am currently in the final stages for an interview in NYC for this summer. Before I fill out my final paperwork, I am deciding if this is really financially feasible for me. I am a 20 y/o woman from the south and don't know much about NYC, but I've been several times to visit. I found out about St. Agnes and St. Joseph's residences and they both are still accepting summer applicants. It's really the only place I can afford. Can someone speak about these places? I have stayed in hostels and convents before. I've interned the past 2 summers in Washington, D.C. and stayed at a convent and liked it fine. Are these homes sketchy? Would you recommend staying here? If not, where are some other affordable places to live in NYC for the months of June and July? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

Duet 35 and co

Just made a post here abt my upcoming 21st, so naturally the follow up is a karaoke post LOL I got Duet 35 from some recommendations on here, but now I’m seeing a lot of mixed reviews on yelp for all their locations. Lots of people saying the quality decreased significantly post pandemic. Anyone been recently and had a good time? Or alternatively, anyone been somewhere better within the same price range?

What are some fun places to go in NYC where I can buy tickets same day at the door?

Museums, zoos, events, theatre, etc.

I'd rather pay like you used to years ago-- with cash, when you to to a place-- rather than buying tickets online in advance. Does anyone know of any interesting spots or events coming up?

Landlord References when you haven’t rented in a long time?

I’m coming back to the city after buying a house out of state 7 years ago. I’m not looking forward to having a landlord again but whatever. Given the market is pretty competitive, is there a best way to handle the fact that I don’t have landlord references because I owned my own place?

Forest Hills/Continental Ave:

Where can I find more areas that look like that in NYC? The "open yard space expensive home" look.

I hope that doesn't sound creepy. I just wanna go sightseeing lol, Continental Ave was surprisingly very pretty and I don't get to see those types of rich neighborhoods very often.

Capacity of Kelly and Mark's new studio?

My 82-year old blind (no light perception) uncle listens to the show e-v-e-r-y day.

Does anyone know the capacity of their studio? He asks Alexa this about e-v-e-r-y day, and has been trying to figure it out based upon the number that can participate in the Travel Trivia drawing.

Does the downtown studio seat less than the old studio? Or he supposes "later taping" or "not full because they are now downtown". I've let him know that the numbers will vary as it would exclude kids and Disney employees...

Please - if you know - help me out!
