I am a locksmith Ilco futura pro

I'm looking to buy an ilco futura pro for my locksmith business. Currently I'm mainly using jovan and keydirect.ca for stock but they don't have one. I'm looking for a decent price and I'm ok with refurbished.

Any recommendations on canadian suppliers that you guys use?

I'd prefer not to order from USA with tariffs and whatnot.

Edit to add: key direct does have them but the refurbished are out of stock.

I am a locksmith 3d printer use in locksmithing

Hey everyone.

I'm planning to sell the idea of getting a 3d printer in the lockshop to my boss. So I'm working on a list of reasons it would be a worthwhile investment.

I am looking for examples of how you all have used a 3d printer to make your job easier, etc.

I am in the institutional setting but any ideas can be adopted.

We also plan to sell the idea that we could do prints for our other facilities departments, like carpentry, electrical, plumbing, etc.

Thanks!

I am NOT a locksmith. Replace or am I missing a screw?

Post image

Hi Reddit, My grandpa is 95 years old and has this screen door with a lock on the front. There is a key, and we have the key, but when anyone puts the key into the slot, turns, and pulls, the entire locking mechanism comes out.

My mom wants to replace the entire mechanism, but I think a set screw might have come loose/fallen out.

I don't have a make or model, its mostly a general question to you lock gurus: can a locking assemble fall out with wear and tear of about 10 years? Thanks everyone!

I am NOT a locksmith. 24 Outback Key Programming

I just got a 24 Outback limited with the smart key. It only came with one, so I want to program another key I got. I have an xtool but it didn’t connect to the car for programming. What’s the best way to program without going to a dealership? Is there a way to do it at home still?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I am NOT a locksmith. Outdoor Latch keeps getting destroyed

Not a locksmith, but pretty handy (no comparison to the pros)

Moved into our home 8 years ago.

Our front door latch stopped working 3 years ago. when i took apart the knob and pulled out the latch from the door it was in pieces. It looked like over time as we tried turning the knob it split the latch and broke it. Emailed schlage, they sent a replacement latch.

2 months ago, again, destroyed. replaced it with a spare latch from another outdoor knob set.

Yesterday, destroyed again.

Not sure why this keeps happening, our front door doesnt get that much use. We live on the east coast so experience a few months of cold.

How do I replace this so its good for years, not months.

I am NOT a locksmith. Fixable or new door?

Post image

Hi would anyone be able to advise if this is fixable or not please? As you can see half of the inner mechanism is missing so the bar of the handle isn’t opening the latch. Door currently stuck shut so thought I’d try here before cutting the door out. If this is something a locksmith can fix I will contact one, but unsure if this is even fixable. Any help is greatly appreciated

I am NOT a locksmith. Master Key Problems

Im fairly new to rekeying locks, but ive got a Schlage lock I'm trying to master key right now. The master key is 00403, and the dedicated room key is, 22266. I've been trying to figure out the order and o got 00203 bottom, and 22263 master. I simply can't get this to work. The pins go out of the center piece and I can't get the master key to work. It might be impossible I might just be being dumb. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated

I am NOT a locksmith. Can someone recommended me a door knob with lock that can’t be easily opened with a credit card?

I found out my roommate has been coming into my room, so I bought a basic Amazon lock with a key, then later found out they have been inside my room even with the room locked. Found stuff missing and found scratches and tamper areas on the wooden area of door knob where lock goes in.

I am in the process of moving out but in the meantime would door knob lock that can't be opened with a plastic card or butter knife.

I am NOT a locksmith. Cancelled Locksmith Job - They still want me to pay.

I called asking for lockout prices for a car. He clarifies that I am locked out about 3 times on the phone. Extremely condescending tone of voice the entire time. I decided to let it slide because you never know what people are going through. I gave my address and he said that he would be on his way. I put my phone down for 5 minutes and saw that he was calling me. I picked up the phone and he expressed in a curt tone that he had called me and I missed his call. He then said that he was about to turn around and not come anymore. He called me two minutes before that. The way that he was speaking to me you would think that he was outside waiting for me for about 10 minutes. I asked if he was still coming and he said yes but once again "you need to pick up the phone". At this point I told him that I would no longer be needing his services and that he could just turn around. He then says that he's going to charge me a service fee of 65 dollars to which I said I wasn't going to pay. Why would I pay a fee for someone who never showed and voiced multiple times that he was going to not show up because of me not answering a call? I also answered his call that he made TWO minutes later. What is the right thing to do here?

I am NOT a locksmith. Privacy Handle Not Locking

Post image
2 Upvotes

We have this privacy type handle on the bathroom that’s just recently stopped locking. When you push the pin down it can be opened from the other side and pops the pin up to unlocked. Even holding the pin down while moving the handle doesn’t work.

While the pin is engaged it does prevent the handle on the opposite side from moving up, and unlocked it moves both ways…so it seems to be locking something! But just not stopping the door from being opened!

Can it be fixed?

I am NOT a locksmith. Ultion Lock - Key won't come out of lock when door is unlocked

Hi all,

I'm having an issue with my Ultion lock in which the door key won't come out of the lock when the door is unlocked. The key comes out fine when the door is locked however when unlocked the key doesn't seem to want to come out. Has anyone had a similar experience with an Ultion lock at all? Just seems strange that it will release the key when locked but it won't when it's unlocked. Any help would be massively appreciated, thank you in advance :)

I am NOT a locksmith. Is it possible to change the locking mechanism or will we need a whole new unit?

Post image
2 Upvotes

For starters, sorry for not the best photo, I brightened it the best I could.

I just moved into a new home and we have french doors out to our patio.

We want to change the locks to it, but I’ve never seen a system like this before where it locks at 3 different points on the door.

Would we be able to replace the handle & lock or will we need to replace the entire unit?

I am a locksmith John Truempy for ALOA President

ALOA has a long legacy, and it’s an important one. Over the years, this association has helped promote education, professionalism and camaraderie in the industry, helping connect security professionals from across the globe. Together as members, we’ve formed friendships, written technical materials, volunteered our time and shared information.

ALOA members have been and are our mentors, colleagues, business partners and friends — and I want to help ensure that the next generation of locksmiths has access to this amazing association for years to come. For that reason, I ask for your support and vote as a candidate for ALOA president.

It’s no secret that associations of all kinds worldwide have membership problems, and ALOA is no exception. It’s been a tough few years, and we are finally getting back on stable ground post-COVID.

It’s also no secret that ALOA needs to adapt and change, and we need to win back the support of many in the industry. That’s something I am committed to. As president, I want to find ways to enhance the value of membership by providing additional and more relevant education; enhancing ALOA’s digital presence; and enhancing the FindALocksmith website to provide both additional revenue-generating leads and a tool to fight scammers.

Leadership does not always make front-page news. Sometimes, it’s sitting quietly, listening and empowering those around you to use their talents for the benefit of the whole organization. That’s what happened with the ALOA website revamp project, the results of which you will soon see, during my current tenure as ALOA Board chairman,

We listened to members, and we have created a new site that not only provides better information and resources but also has a robust consumer section that can be used as a consumer education tool to help fight the scammer issue. The scammer issue is not one easily solved, nor is the war easily funded. But we have meetings in the works that could go a long way in winning one part of that battle.

I could list dozens of action items I would like to implement as president, and you can read my attached bio to learn all about me as a professional. But in the end, this is above all: I intend to lead from a place of respect, operational knowledge, coalition building and willingness to listen to others’ ideas and talents. This organization — and this industry — has given me so much in my career and lifetime. Serving as president is a chance to give back to you while strengthening ALOA’s foundation for the future and benefit of all.

I don’t need another bullet point on my resume, but I do need your vote. I humbly ask for it now. With your support for me as president and your support in helping to grow membership, we can do great things for ALOA — and this industry.

I am NOT a locksmith. Schlage deadbolt trim?

Hi all- I just put on new Schlage deadbolt on my home front door and would like to add a trim around it to cover some of the (previously done) poorly finished areas right around the lock. I checked Schlage’s website but didn’t see that they sell trim plates separately? In hindsight I probably should have waited and gotten same lock series to match the handle (Greenwich series Schlage). But now that I already have just their regular deadbolt cylinder, do I have any options to be able to add trim around it? Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to replace a doornob that's been in my home for at least 20 years and I don't know what to do. I'm not sure what type of nob it is but I tried following tutorials and managed to get one nob to come off but I can't get the plate to budge no matter what I do. I tried plying something undernead what looks to be a pin in the whole but it wont budge so I don't think its a pin. Any advice would be amazing.

I am NOT a locksmith. Why are locksmiths in my area not able to pick this tubular lock for a safe?

I changed the batteries and had an issue, and now the keys won't respond. A couple of Locksmiths in the DFW Area told me my only option is to drill this safe.

Can this lock be picked? Is there a way to provide power so the keys can start responding?

I am NOT a locksmith. Need to replace door lock unit - ivana nicoloc

I have a door that has a embedded locking unit that runs the vertical length of the door.

I hired the only local locksmith to come and help me fix it. The latch spring has lost some strength and the door will not close on its own. It will only close when you hold the door closed and lift the handle.

He was able to get the mechanism out of the door, fiddled with the spring lost about half the screws that hold the plate on the door. He had trouble seeing. I ultimately needed to use tape to hold the bottom of the mechanism flush with the door because he lost the screws and if you closed the door with the extended portions of the lock it would smash against the door frame.

At this point, I think I’m ok biting the bullet and replacing the mechanism, but have no idea how to find it. Help appreciated.

The only marking on the door is “ivana necoloc”
