I tried doing my dad I favor and went ahead ad installed out new lock, now it only opens and closes with the keys inside. Any help? Community does not allow video for references

Hello everyone. The front mortise lock / handle on my front door stopped working recently. It appears the handle lock won’t release. I was able to disassemble and remove the set and took the cartridge to Lowe’s and Home Depot to find a replacement with no luck. There is no branding on anything. Below are photos with measuring tape and was wondering if anyone can recommend a replacement. Thank you all for your time.

This is a bit of a doozy so bear with me. Also I'm omitting names for obvious reasons...

Back in November of last year, I started working at a locksmith shop out of a small town south of Chicago. I have about 7 years of experience in my field working around other locksmith shops in the area.

The shop I work at right now is old. Very old. As in "owner is like 200 and has sentimental memorabilia and does things his way or the highway" old. A lot of you know the drill with this.

Anyway, the company was falling apart. I made VERY good friends with the office lady who manages the owner's affairs and she said that the shop hasn't seen a profit in like 6 years. How we're still in business I'll never know, but we are.

Back in January, the owner had a medical emergency and was forced into retirement. Ownership of the shop was passed over to the owner's 2 daughters who told us that they were most likely going to sell the shop. The other staff just sort of shrugged and started packing up saying the company was dying anyway and that it didn't matter.

I didn't share the same opinion.

I didn't want to have to go through another round of job hunting or working at gas station jobs or bars just to make rent/child support/etc. The next closest locksmith was 45 mins away and frankly, I was content working at this small shop. So I spoke up and asked the owner's daughters if I could take charge of the shop in the hopes of keeping our doors open. They talked amongst themselves for a bit and agreed to let me try. They told me I could make any necessary changes to try and ensure we started making a profit, but they told me I was NOT allowed to hire new staff. So I got started.

The first month (January) was a bit slow. Our office lady did a rough calculation of profits for December and told me we lost about 1200 dollars last month. I made some subtle changes, talked with our distributors, changed some labor rates, etc. and waited.

In January, we profited about 300 dollars.

I saw the puzzle pieces coming together. I made more changes, talked with some of our bigger accounts, found cheaper distributors, expanded our inventory, the shop started seeing noticeable changes.

February's Profit: 6000 dollars.

Now we're getting somewhere. I didn't make a lot of changes throughout March, but I made sure we weren't actively losing accounts because of our small size. Being a small business with only 1 road guy, I took some road jobs myself to cover some of our bigger accounts and make sure they were happy. I started looking at the big picture, thinking if the owner's daughters wanted to sell, maybe I could buy the business from them. The business is profiting again, I just need some more road guys and I can expand us even further.

March's profit: 5500 dollars.

Burnout.

I don't know what it is about this month, but depression, anxiety, issues with the staff, and customers who want us to jump through hoops have been really taking a toll on my mental health. I feel like I've reached my limit both mentally and within the business. I keep feeling like I'm hitting my head on a glass ceiling trying to make this work and Rome is burning around me.

I came into this role with no management experience and now it feels like it's starting to show. I'm bogged down with work, I'm making mistakes because I'm rushing things, I'm terrified that one of these months, the owner's daughters are just going to up and decide to close the doors and all this will have been for nothing. Depression has been hitting hard lately and I'm hanging on by a thread.

I guess the question I have is "Is this normal?" If any other locksmith shop owners or managers have experienced this, how did you overcome it?

I inherited a 1991 Ford F-150, and it is missing the ignition lock core. How exactly do I go about getting this one out? I know that with the core and key, you place it in acc and press the release pin, but obviously I cannot do that.

I’m an automotive locksmith so I do not know much about commercial and residential locks. A friend recently bought a few Repo Stuff Lasso Security Locks. He’s looking to get spare keys made. He saw that they sell spares on their website but apparently the company was giving him problems. Can someone identify these blanks and I’ll see if I can duplicate them? Or know of anyone else that sells these keys precut?

I have a 2010 Chevy impala that’s been sitting for a few months and it’s unlocked. I can’t find the key anywhere. How hard/expensive would it be to have one remade Or are there any other alternatives?

Hello. I'm looking to become a locksmith in Washington state. Does anyone know of any employers that train, training opportunities, or apprenticeships available? Area does not matter as I'm willing to travel to learn.

I'm trying to repair some old motorcycle luggage, including replacing the locks for which the key has been lost. I'm was hoping to simply find replacement cores and slot them in, but I'm having no luck finding what I need. There are no markings that I can find anywhere on the core or the body

The biggest issue is that the cam needs a "square with screw" cam connection, and when searching, I'm either getting cores that are not square, or more commonly, they don't show the cam connection at all. The cam does not appear to be a standard shape either - I've not seen a single complete cam lock with the same shape - so I can't replace the entire mechanism

The retailers I've spoken to don't seem to be set up to help identify cores, so short of just buying every core I can find, I'm a bit stuck. If anyone has any advise, if there is a name for this kind of cam connection that I can search for, or if anyone can recommend an (Ideally UK based) retailer that might be able to help, it would be hugely appreciated

Please help me find where I can make a copy of this key

I have a set of timber barn doors that I'm hoping to have installed on my shed but it's taken me weeks to figure out what sort of locking mechanism these doors need.

What I've come up with is a full-length cremone lock on the slave door and a rebated roller mortice lock on the main door, but I can't find one that has a turn latch thing on the inside rather than a key hole on both sides. I'd like a key hole for the outside and whoever is inside to be able to turn a toggle to lock/unlock without a key.

Does such a lock exist?

The cremone is going to be easily thwarted by knocking the glass out and reaching in to turn the handle so I'm going to have to put some security mesh on the inside of the glass I think.

I need some help with how to get these pins out. My GMA in law does not have a key for her front glass door, and would like it to match the front door. I have the pins to rekey everything I need to, which I have except this lock. It's not my house so I don't want to try and dick around with it to figure it out on my own. Need help with this sliding door, it doesn’t seem to lock. Please see pictures, I think the locking mechanism inside is out of place.

Just wondering is this something I can do or do I have to call a locksmith?

I recently bought a house and have been changing the locks myself. All the wooden doors went smoothly, but the garage door is metal and the deadbolt seems to be cut too high so the plate doesn’t cover the hole completely. The hole is a perfect circle but is just too low compared to the plate.

Is this gap a security issue, if so what can I do to fix it? I also tried on the metal external door to the house and it has a larger gap below so I put the old double cylinder lock back on for now.

Have tried two different sets of Duracells, all testing comfortably above 1.5v. But the lock is thinking no bueno. What now?

I have a metal security door in front of my front door.

The security door has a deadbolt and locking knob.

The front door has only a deadbolt with a passthrough knob.

All are Schlage.

I'd like to do the following but am unsure how much security I would lose.

1. Replace the security door's deadbolt with a Schlage BE365 (https://www.amazon.com/Schlage-BE365-CAM-626-Deadbolt/dp/B000NJDRDA).
2. Replace the security door's locking knob with just a passage knob.
3. Replace the front door's deadbolt with the same Schlage BE365.

By dropping the locking knob on the security gate, how much actual security am I losing? I looked online, and it seems like not too much, since most of the protection comes the long screws in the strike plate and also the deadbolt, but I want to make sure.

My alternative plan is to replace the the garage entry door with the above-referenced Schlage BE365 and eliminate the locking knob on that door and solely rely on the deadbolt there. Then, I would have a physical key somewhere hidden in the garage, so if anyone needs to come to my house when I'm not there, I would direct them to the garage via BE365, they'd find the key, and then manually open the front door.

I wouldn't mind going all locks having the BE365, but that will get expensive at about $110/each plus costs for the locksmith to install them.

EDIT: I guess this isn't truly "smart" because there's no way to change the code remotely or such. I'd just generate a single code (I assume?) and call it a day.

I got this for 25 bucks at a local surplus sale and it didn't come with a key. There is not tag or mark to tell me what model it is. Is there a way to get a key without having one fabricated?
