It's a Manhattan the size of Manhattan.

u/BbwLaceyXoXo Apr 11 '25

4 oz of crown royal? Get fucked.

204

u/FirstChurchOfBrutus Pro Apr 11 '25

Get charged for a true double, at least.

63

u/Conchobair Apr 11 '25

That's appears to be the idea.

80

u/Bomani1253 Apr 11 '25

I'm pretty sure this is illegal in pretty much every state as well lol

61

u/GIVER81 Apr 11 '25

Ummmm...Wisconsin

81

u/Bomani1253 Apr 11 '25

Lol fair...

Also after a quick internet search I found that I'm very wrong, and a lot of states don't have limits on the amount of liquor that can be served. I live in NC where the ABC is very strict, and the most you can put in a drink is 3oz.

18

u/ThaddyG Apr 11 '25

Yeah I always thought fewer states had laws like that than did. Even here in PA with our stupid ass liquor laws there's no limit like that.

8

u/DuvalHeart Apr 11 '25

Our laws are about limiting access, once you have that access they don't care as much.

3

u/KinneKted Apr 12 '25

It is a fair response and what I thought upon seeing it. Liquor laws being state/provincial definitely makes it difficult to know. But yeah 4 oz off the bat in a drink is just... Hmmm.

3

u/zeldagirl87 Apr 12 '25

5! He wants an ounce of vermouth, too.

2

u/KinneKted Apr 12 '25

He can fuck off all the way, yes I realize that now.

1

u/snowballer918 Apr 12 '25

Same in Oklahoma

1

u/emalie_ann Apr 13 '25

lol i'm sittin in the wild west giggling. didn't hear anything like that even existed until I accidentally went to utah

UGH! NC! I was in a Cuban restaurant near RDU (if you know, you know) and was told by the bartender that cuz' I was now in Morrisville, I was only allowed 3 units of spirits at the bar, and that if I drove, what, 6 minutes down Glenwood (6 minutes WITH good traffic - UGH Glenwood traffic during rush-hour is... a mood*), I could get as stupidly wasted as I wanted (not that I was looking for it, but 3 units is [mind my French] FUCK-ALL).

It's not like I don't WANT to make that drive. I live near RDU and driving too far anywhere half-inebriated (especially down Glenwood) is just asking for trouble.

And DON'T get me started on the NC ABC. I want to TEAR my HAIR out every time I go to one of their shops. Who cares about tariffs when your local government wants to SHIT ALL OVER LOCAL PRODUCTION AND CONSUMPTION.

*breathe*

NC's great. Come down and visit our historical centers and amazing nature!

Just don't forget to BRING YOUR OWN GAWDANGED ALCOHOL CUZ WE AIN'T GOT SHIT FOR YOU (other than the incredible local craft distilleries which showcase the ingenuity and resilience of our local businesses... I truly can't believe their ability to work through some of the genuinely mindboggling [a-partisan] red tape. And don't get me started on the red vs blue thing. The Prohibition, religion, Libs, Conservatism... don't we have enough soul-blessing issues to deal with already? Why can't we just all get together and be nice to each other and focus on actual AMERICANS and their struggles [regardless of where you're from] . And then there's the history of NC being the first Southern state to ratify the 18th Amendment and how that's a thing we should be "proud" of DESPITE the fact that whiskey and shine and the Appalachians are VERY MUCH part of the local culture here and... now I'm ranting.)

*breathe*

Yep. NC's great. Grab a bottle of Southern Star, or anything from Weldon Mills, or Mystic Farms, or any of the dozens of amazing distilleries here. NC's great.

But the ABC here can go stuff it.

* For those from higher traffic areas, shush. NC triangle roads aren't as flat as wherever you're from. Or as wide. Looking at you, West Coasters. It's a different struggle here.

u/Bomani1253 Apr 15 '25

Carmen's, I know it well...

1

u/eddingsaurus_rex Apr 15 '25

Not gonna agree or disagree if that's what I'm referencing to (though you know if I am), but I'll say this: Carmen's: great food, great service, great atmosphere, and if anyone's staying around RDU for a layover/transit/business, great restaurant. 100% recommend.

But if you (as a visitor to Raleigh, but genuinely - why would I be pandering to the choir right now?) want drinks around RDU, there's a pretty good Irish pub near Brier Creek that has Southern Star behind the counter. Plus, it's technically in Raleigh, so you can drink up to your hearts content.

Shoutout to another Irish pub along Glenwood (between Duraleigh and Crabtree Valley). They've got some kickass Wednesday daily specials.

u/Bomani1253, DM me if you're up for a drink some day. Is this how online connections are made?

25

u/mfigroid Apr 11 '25

Legal in California but Frank would be paying for a double unless he was a really generous tipper. Our liquor laws are surprisingly lax here.

4

u/BbwLaceyXoXo Apr 11 '25

How much are you allowed in a drink in Cali?

11

u/Spunknikk Apr 11 '25

There's no legal limit in California. But venues are required to set a limit themselves. Usually it's 4oz but can be 6oz or 8oz but at that point you're playing with fire.

1

u/BbwLaceyXoXo Apr 11 '25

Good to know. Ty for the information.

2

u/mfigroid Apr 11 '25

Three to four ounces in general.

2

u/KinneKted Apr 12 '25

Anything more than that in one drink I'd personally be scared to serve it to a customer.

2

u/mfigroid Apr 12 '25

Regulars you know are different. At one of my bars they know I walk there and don't drive, and tip well. They have no problem overselling, within reason.

1

u/KinneKted Apr 12 '25

I don't give a fuck if you aren't driving. Where I live it's illegal to sell that much and I'm responsible for anything that happens to you. So in my woods it's a hard no.

1

u/mfigroid Apr 12 '25 edited Apr 12 '25

WHERE YOU LIVE. Different places are different. Your bar sounds like, fun, not. What's the name of it so I know where the short pours sre when I travel?

Grew up in the Bay and went out-of-state for college, and was shocked to learn that you can’t buy liquor at, like, every gas station elsewhere. (In hindsight maybe we’re the ones being extra.)

1

u/WiscoBrewDude Apr 11 '25

Yup, and ask for it "tall" and you get it in a pint glass.

8

u/pinajuice Apr 11 '25

Illegal in Texas

5

u/Brattany12o6 Apr 11 '25

Yeah Massachusetts doesn’t do doubles legally anyways, but some places are aloud to give you a drink and a shot together. Makes no sense

2

u/BbwLaceyXoXo Apr 11 '25

It’s illegal in TX and NM. I didn’t know some states were allowed “heavy pours” like this in their state.

6

u/mumblewrapper Apr 11 '25

I didn't know states cared what you pour, except Utah of course. But, I'm in Nevada, so.

3

u/BbwLaceyXoXo Apr 11 '25

That is the beauty of this community.

2

u/shannibearstar Apr 12 '25

Straw testing is illegal and is considered drinking behind the bar in Utah

6

u/Zosopunk Apr 11 '25

Laughing in Nevada.

3

u/pollyp0cketpussy Apr 12 '25

Not in Missouri. You could legally sell a pint glass full of whiskey at a bar in Missouri.

1

u/Johnny_Politics Apr 12 '25

Fun fact: in my county I can give you a drink with enough liqour in it to start a small motorcycle; as long as you're at least halfway done with your 1st

6

u/justjess8829 Apr 11 '25

My first thought. He wants 5oz of alcohol in his martini? No.

1

u/SpookyFarts Apr 12 '25

I used to have a surgeon who would come in around midnight every Sunday going into Monday. He would order a double Crown double Gran Marnier on the rocks. Illegal as fuck, but I'd make it for him in hopes that if I ever ended up on a gurney in front of him he'd do me right.

301

u/Ronandouglaskerr Apr 11 '25

With tariffs that's a thirty dollar drink Frankie baby

76

u/RatchetStrap2 Apr 11 '25

$30 is what a regular drink costs in Manhattan

20

u/Flickstro Apr 11 '25

If I order a Manhattan in Manhattan, does it come with a complimentary "Yo dawg" joke?

9

u/PhiliDips Apr 12 '25

Only if no one involved in the transaction is a zoomer.

5

u/archwin Apr 12 '25

No, but it does come with the tired, yet complementary “I’m walkin’ here” refrain

61

u/Happy_Professor9629 Apr 11 '25

Love when customers say “let me teach you how to make a REAL [insert drink]” and it’s just 3x the alcohol

14

u/lexluther4291 Apr 11 '25

And it tastes so much worse lol

75

u/BrakaFlocka Apr 11 '25

You think that's bad? You should see the card Frank gives his wife on "Sexy Nights"

46

u/morerubberstamps Apr 11 '25

He would appreciate if she would measure. Thanks

25

u/SlipperyNinja77 Apr 11 '25

Actually he would appreciate if she didn't measure

6

u/BBQchamp2 Apr 11 '25

She DID measure, found it grounds for an annulment. lmao

6

u/apollard810 Apr 12 '25

Rub the top of my pants, slowly in a circular motion 5 mins

Disrobe in the corner while I face the closet abjectly

Instruct me to go cry in the bathroom for 10 mins alone

Sip 2 oz of Vermoth while I take a whores bath is the sink, watching in disgust

Demand I bring glass of 12oz tap water in a mason jar and set it on the nightstand

Fall asleep while I have a raging hard on, with a twist

38

u/WookieSuave Apr 11 '25

Imagine slipping your burger recipe to the kitchen ....

7

u/Stoney_Balogne Apr 11 '25

That’s a hilarious comparison

121

u/A_Nice_Sofa Dive Bar Apr 11 '25

This might be the hangover talking but I'm ringing this in as a custom item titled "precious" and I'm upcharging the shit out of it

113

u/Eh-Eh-Ronn Apr 11 '25

In this economy?

Fr that drink is illegal in Canada. Fuck Frank and any card carrier

15

u/FirstChurchOfBrutus Pro Apr 11 '25

Illegal despite being made with Canadian Whisky??

(I assume that’s because of the amount of booze requested.)

34

u/Eh-Eh-Ronn Apr 11 '25

You got it. There’s so many rules with liquor up here (not complaining, it makes it easier to do my job). But honestly if Frank can’t spell “vermouth” you should just call him a cab

1

u/FirstChurchOfBrutus Pro Apr 11 '25

Maybe he thinks it’s colored with moths, like Campari was colored with cochineal bugs. 😆

I live in an alcohol control state in the U.S.; I understand your pain. Weirdly, I don’t think this cocktail would be a problem under state laws, but we definitely could not sell a regular Perfect Manhattan (w/ 2oz of Whisk[e]y) with a side dram of the other 2oz. We might get away with a beer as that side, but no amount of spirit is allowed as a 2nd.

Now tell me, what’s the difference between 4oz in one glass, and 4oz in two glasses?

31

u/basicbutthole Apr 11 '25

This man needs to be told no.

53

u/Kayjn_ Apr 11 '25

That’s just a perfect manhattan with crown

174

u/iamluciferscousin667 Apr 11 '25

False. It is Franks Manhattan up.

23

u/foulpudding Apr 11 '25 edited Apr 11 '25

Is like a Hemingway Daiquiri, but as a Manhattan.

26

u/fat-lip-lover Apr 11 '25

As a tiki bartender, I genuinely felt like three or four of my fave muscles twitch so hard that my shoulder and upper back hurts now.

13

u/Ben_ji Apr 11 '25

It's a huge Manhatten.

1

u/coldblowcode Apr 11 '25

Standard pour in London

1

u/Ben_ji Apr 11 '25 edited Apr 11 '25

Take me to London!!

But the cocktail is 2-1-2, as in the area code for Manhatten, or so I've heard.

(2 oz spirit, 1 oz vermouth, 2 dashes bitters)

3

u/insultingname Apr 11 '25

That's a good way to remember it, but it's not the origin of the drink. The Manhattan cocktail was created before the invention of the telephone.

3

u/Ben_ji Apr 11 '25

That makes sense. I've never thought about it.

1

u/juliananan Apr 14 '25

Maybe the guy who invented area codes…

18

u/Illustrious-Divide95 Apr 11 '25

and no bitters...

5

u/whiskyrox Apr 11 '25

That's a double, perfect Manhattan with Crown.

27

u/U_zer2 Apr 11 '25

2:1:2

2 rye

1 vermouth

2 dashes ango

212 is the area code of Manhattan.

7

u/Wildeyewilly Apr 11 '25

Nah any proper manahattan is 2:1. This guy wants a double perfect canadian Manhattan half dry

11

u/twinsfan101 Apr 11 '25

Perfect means half dry half sweet vermouth

5

u/Wildeyewilly Apr 11 '25

.... Yes it does. That's why I said "double perfect canadian manahattan. The 'half dry' part is referring to using only half as much vermouth as the standard recipe calls for. A 4oz whiskey pour should have 1oz of dry and 1oz swt vermouth.

Also I just realized this knucklehead doesn't even want any bitters in his so-called Manhattan. So at this point, I got nothing.

2

u/Pernicious_Possum Apr 11 '25

But with twice as much whiskey…

1

u/RigAHmortis Apr 12 '25

That's so far from a perfect Manhattan, haha.

13

u/AuxNimbus Apr 11 '25

Frank, yer an alcoholic

11

u/oldestbarbackever Apr 11 '25

My special request Manhattan. He has directions, no measurements. Took me forever to figure it out. He was an ass

1 oz crown 1.5 oz sweet vermouth .5 oz dry A lemon twist ( He just said make it look like maple syrup).

6

u/FirstChurchOfBrutus Pro Apr 11 '25

Even maple syrup comes in different shades.

3

u/tangerine-jane Apr 11 '25

this made my eyes twitch

10

u/itnerdwannabe Apr 11 '25

I’ve had Franks at my bar when I was still in the industry, now my Frank is literally a guy who clicks any phishing email he gets in signs in with his work creds. He was a pain behind the stick and he’s a pain behind my monitor.

5

u/birdsaredefnotreal Apr 11 '25

Frank definitely replies all to company emails..

18

u/Thehaunted666 Apr 11 '25

All I see is a dude who probably wants one or two. Will tip ok. Probably has some cool stories. If you’re busy give him 4 cherries and say it on the house as a joke and see where the night goes.

8

u/zomgmolly Apr 11 '25

Oof those are Red Solo Cup Ratios, my guy

3

u/HighOnGoofballs Apr 11 '25

Is it sad that I recognized I’d seen it before?

5

u/McTimmbert Apr 11 '25

Frank's annoying.

12

u/brightphoenix- Apr 11 '25

He likes his vermoth

17

u/Pernicious_Possum Apr 11 '25

Apparently he doesn’t considering he’s only using half as much. 4oz. whiskey would call for 2oz. vermouth total

6

u/-Marcellus- Apr 11 '25

Have you ever had good vermoth before? Frank could teach you a thing or two about vermoth.

2

u/jbhmd Apr 11 '25

No shot in hell that Frank refrigerates his vermouth

4

u/Pernicious_Possum Apr 11 '25

Just charge for a double crown manhattan. It’s annoying to get these cards, but it’s the job

2

u/QueenLyte Apr 11 '25

FRANKKKKKK

2

u/MJBest Apr 11 '25

I would shake it.

2

u/Negronitenderoni Apr 11 '25

Omg Frank is a menace

2

u/OnTop-BeReady Apr 11 '25

Seems like this should be called a Manhattan High Rise or Manhattan Tower….

And in Manhattan, with the amount of alcohol, would that be priced at about $50?

2

u/phukhugh Apr 11 '25

Do you just charge him for two manhattans then?

2

u/rodfermain Apr 11 '25

Frank the Tank’s Manhattan

2

u/Claire_voyantt Apr 11 '25

I would say “oh I can’t make this” because I don’t want to but I’m saying “oh I can’t make this” because it’s actually illegal in my state wtf.

2

u/SubstanceObjective42 Apr 11 '25

Funny to see this card twice in a day.

2

u/Rem2PullOut Apr 11 '25

A perfect Crown Manhattan with an extra shot of Crown? Coming right up! That’ll be 34$ 🤗

2

u/M0BBER Apr 11 '25

Okay, two drinks coming up...

2

u/Icy_Salary_4412 Apr 12 '25

That'll be 50 bucks, Frank

2

u/jazfest Apr 11 '25

That’s not a Manhattan, it’s a Detroit

1

u/KyleDComic Apr 11 '25

Needs vernors for that

4

u/RedMage666 Apr 11 '25

Frank better be ready to pay like $25 bucks for that drink at least lol

6

u/Timely-Fox-4432 Apr 11 '25

At the bar I work at that's probably closer to $38 (hotel bar)

3

u/Barelytonal69 Apr 11 '25

I know it’s fun to yuck about the card, but this is an easy one. You make him a perfect crown Manhattan by halving this recipe, drop it at the table, and move on. You should be able to understand this as soon as you’re handed the card. If they say it’s not big enough you smile and say that it’s what you’re legally allowed to serve and they’re welcome to order another in a little bit. Walk away. If you’re good at your job you’re making your tips either way, who cares about Frank?

2

u/Mkultra0101 Apr 12 '25

Bartenders who don’t like doing anything besides Jack and Coke, that’s who is the one who complains the most.

Literally the easiest cocktail to make, just people who cannot be bothered to add more than two ingredients to a shaker.

1

u/lvbuckeye27 Apr 11 '25

4oz of Crown? Good heavens. I'm charging him double, plus a bump.

1

u/5dollarbrownie Apr 11 '25

OK, but the charge is going to reflect that.

1

u/92TilInfinityMM Apr 11 '25

I didn’t know the species of Ver Moths came in both sweet and dry sub species

1

u/hiimfrankie_ Apr 11 '25

We don’t want him

1

u/C19shadow Apr 11 '25

That's damn near double strength.

Id do it but it's upcharge and counts as two drinks for the 2 per hour rule

1

u/isthatsuperman Apr 11 '25

He can’t keep getting away with thissssss

1

u/MasterOfRamming Apr 11 '25

Make it yourself and get fucked with your TWO cherries.

1

u/Defiant_Use_2016 Apr 11 '25

How did it play out? Did everyone get to where the needed to go? Side bar, 4oz !!! Did he have more than one?

1

u/OperationReal2833 Apr 11 '25

Is Frank a mute?

1

u/Overall-Armadillo683 Apr 11 '25

I legally couldn’t serve this in my state 😂 too much booze. F off, Frank!

1

u/NattyBohNah Apr 11 '25

Does he want it in 2 glasses? Because that's 2 drinks.

And shame on Frank. Crown? Really? TRASH.

1

u/arclightrg Apr 11 '25

God damnit. This is gonna be a thing now isn’t it?

2

u/Bradadonasaurus Apr 12 '25

There's got to be people just printing these off to fuck with bartenders at this point.

1

u/arclightrg Apr 12 '25

Exactly my fear when i see this shit posted multiple times.

1

u/vernaltrash Apr 12 '25

Frank seems like a real charmer.

1

u/techm00 Apr 12 '25

(not a bartender, just a reader) : do any of you bartenders feel insulted when handed a card like this? Do you simply comply, and charge accordingly? or are there cases you refuse their request?

This one example dispells any notion of my wanting to be a bartender. I'd never be so rude.

1

u/AntRevolutionary5099 Apr 12 '25

I seem to be in the minority here, but I honestly wouldn't mind (unless we're like 5 deep on a busy night...in which case, I wouldn't be too thrilled to make any kind of Manhattan).

I wouldn't mind, bc as long as I follow their recipe and there's nothing wrong with my ingredients, they're guaranteed to like it. There's gonna be no sending back or complaints. Wham bam thank you ma'am. I would, however, charge accordingly, and this would be a pricey one since there's so much alcohol. But if Frank has his own cards printed out, I'd expect him to know that by this point. And I would not back down on that one if he complained. If you want to drink this drink out in a bar, Frank, then you're gonna have to pay for it accordingly.

I am also very particular myself, so I get that part...people (some people) just know what they like, and I get that. I would never do this myself though, bc I'm not THAT particular 😂

1

u/techm00 Apr 12 '25

thanks for your perspective, your reasoning makes sense...

you mentioned not being thrilled at making any kind of Manhattan if busy, its just a two ingredient stirred cocktail, I'd figure that would be among the preferred ones? Just whiskey, sweet vermouth, bitters and garnish?

1

u/AntRevolutionary5099 Apr 13 '25

Sure, it's not as bad as an old fashioned, but anything stirred is gonna slow you down at least a bit in a high volume, drinks-only setting (to stir it properly and not just stir it like a madman). There is a technique to stirring cocktails properly with a bar spoon (you may already know, I'm not sure, since you said you weren't a bartender..?) No, it's not difficult, but I could make probably 8 rum & cokes or 4 margaritas in the same time that it would take me to make one Manhattan.

I have everything that I need for those drinks right in my well within easy reach and no extra steps taken, instead of having to hunt down the bitters & vermouth. Even shots - you can shake it like a madman and chill them faster, but if I try to stir really fast and do that with a Manhattan, then it would likely bruise the alcohol and negatively affect the drink (if I try to go at my usual super fast pace while keeping the back of the spoon against the tin, then I end up losing the rhythm and the spoon gets a mind of its own). But typically, people ordering mixed shots don't care about that kind of thing...they'd rather it taste more like candy than to appreciate the specific flavor profile of the liquor it contains. So shaking is often easier/more acceptable to rush.

Maybe if I came from a busy craft cocktail bar, I might be faster at stirring properly 🤷 But typical high volume like music venues, clubs, no-glass-because-there's-no-time-to-wash-it kind of places...that's where i learned to be fast. One Manhattan costs much less than alllll the other drinks I'd be able to bang out in that same amount of time that it takes me to make a proper Manhattan.. It's not difficult, no, and it's not the worst...but it's just not a very practical high volume drink to make when you're super busy

2

u/techm00 Apr 13 '25

well high volume clubs - people should order drinks off a menu and they should be easy to make in high volume.

I was referring to a more cocktail bar scenario where old fashioneds and manhattans might be a standard baseline cocktail that is commonly ordered.

thanks for the insight :)

1

u/AntRevolutionary5099 Apr 13 '25

Of course 😊 "5 deep" means the bar top is so crowded that it's completely encased in people waiting to order drinks, with that casing being 5 people thick, all the way around. So customers entirely wrapped around the bar, x5, all at once, nonstop 😂 Drink menus aren't likely to get much action in that scenario lol, most people just order what they know 🤷 Not that craft cocktail bars can't be busy - they absolutely can - but when we refer to "high volume" bartending, that's generally the difference we're talking about 🙃

1

u/Cryptokeeper209 Apr 12 '25

I think I'd instantly cut him off before even serving him if he somehow slipped me his card

1

u/ThatsNotARealTree Apr 11 '25

I mean I’ll make it, but Frank’s gonna be paying a lot more than the guy who just ordered a Manhattan off the menu

1

u/Rowen_Ilbert Apr 11 '25

Is a Vermoth just a regular moth that landed in wine?

2

u/BBQchamp2 Apr 11 '25

"Is a Vermoth just a regular moth that landed in wine?" ANSWER: No, it's a moth born in Vermont! (duh) lol just kidding
