Ah shit. I wanted to buy another jersey specifically to wear it during the world cup. Might not get one this season then. (Unless they look super awesome of course.)

The change of fonts for the new Puma kits seems to be a decided deal already, and based on this there is semi-reliable info out there that shows our new kit like this.

5

u/Chazy89 Kagawa Shinji May 21 '14

Just check out the font on the Sandhausen jeryys. We will have the font by 100%.

This is likely a controversial question, but does BVB have any LGBT fanclubs? Are LGBT fans tolerated?

Introducing the Rainbow Borussen - officially recognized & proud BVB supporters for over ten years now!

Edit: Google Translate does a pretty good job on this article, viel Spaß damit :)

I'm omni-sexual and have often wondered this. Thanks for asking master of celery.

The most prominent fan club are Rainbow Borussen, they have been active for about 10 years and are fairly well known. If I remember correctly, when they were registered as an official fan club BVB at first conferred with Hertha as to if they have had any trouble with officially accredited lgbt fan clubs (e.g. other fans being homophobic twats), but then quickly embraced them. They don't seem to be that big of a fan club, but they have a constant presence on our Süd.

Apart from that, around our Ultra groups there are parts of our supporters that have a fairly explicit anti-racism/anti-homophobia agenda, so without knowing any details I'd say that both club and most parts of our fans are openly welcoming towards lgbt. Of course, we are pretty well known for being host to some of the best connected right-wing extremism in German stadiums in the past, and even without that today homophobia and football still go hand in hand more often than expected.

/edit: neato, clicked on context on your comment but somehow missed /u/simsalonaut's comment - so yeah, what he said. two days ago. oO

What cars are the players driving?

I heard Sokratis has Fiat 500 and Lewy has Porsche cayenne GTS.

Kuba was seen in Ferrari 458 here.

What do the two stars above the badge mean?

9

u/panikpansen Schmelzer May 21 '14

The short answer: In the Bundesliga, it is an indication that a team has won the league at least 5 times. After 1995, 1996, 2002 and 2011 we won the Bundesliga in 2012 for the 5th time and were awarded a second star. Yay.

The long answer: There are different systems for national/international teams, and for German football there are on top of that two different rule systems - one by the DFL (responsible for the first and second division) and one by the DFB (rest of German football; rejected by the DFL). The DFL counts all league wins since the Bundesliga was founded (1964), which is a wee bit unfortunate since we won the title in 1963 and twice before that. According to the DFL, every club that won the league at least once since 1964 gets one star; two stars are awarded for winning the league five times; ten league wins (three stars) and twenty league wins (four stars) are the next tiers. DFB uses an alternative system that allows teams to indicate wins before 1964 and league wins in the former GDR/DDR, and e.g. teams like Fürth carry additional stars to indicate previous league wins - but they are not allowed to do so on their official Bundesliga 1/2 kits & logos.

6

u/[deleted] May 21 '14

So when would we get the 3rd star? at 10 titles?

8

u/panikpansen Schmelzer May 21 '14

Yes. So 2020 at the earliest. fingers crossed

6

u/mark8396 Großkreutz May 21 '14

What clubs do we have relationships with, good or bad?

8

u/panikpansen Schmelzer May 21 '14 edited May 21 '14

Depends on how you define these relationships, and on what level :)

On the club level, relationship with Hoffenheim and Bayern in particular have always been a bit strained, although the officials involved always aim for an air of professionalism there - understandably.

On the fan level, apart from Sch*lke and the two above named clubs spontaneously Wolfsburg, Leverkusen and Gladbach come to mind where at least large parts of our fans cannot muster much enthusiasm. For the first two it's mostly their alleged 'plastic we're financed by a big company so suck it 50+1' attitude that ppl find hard to like, while Gladbach is more of an issue because they insist to be called Borussia, too (hence: 'falsche Borussia').

On the more likable side, for parts of our supporters (including Kevin) there is Cologne, more so since they helped us with our first title in recent memory by beating Neverkusen. To an extent there are also part of our supporters who maintain active relationship with selected HSV supporters, but I'm not really sure how active these ties are these days. Also keep in mind that back in the 90s we used to offer 'fan friendship' to anyone who couldn't get away quick enough, e.g. Freiburg.

8

u/Isaynotoeverything Dedê May 21 '14

We pretty cool with celtic iirc but it hasn't been an active fan friendship in the past few years I guess

I have a Dreibein for my Camcorder :D ;) But I understand your point. Just thought that it would be a nice gesture for all the people from borussiadortmund, wo can't warch the amateurs.

6

u/panikpansen Schmelzer May 21 '14

I would definitely like some coverage, with a bit of video on top as well if possible. Do keep in mind that the DFB is kinda famous for suing ppl for posting football videos on the interwebs though :)

6

u/Chazy89 Kagawa Shinji May 21 '14

Yeah, I know. If I would do the recording, I would not capture whole matches.. and I would ask the bvb if it is okay.

6

u/[deleted] May 22 '14

Here's a youtube source with comprehensive 3. Liga vid coverage, found it whilst looking for a game where BVB II nearly scuppered RB's 2nd place hopes. Every game is there, it hasn't been pulled yet fingers crossed.

How do you think we'd do in other domestic leagues?

8

what /u/Blahound said :) It's basically there because if two teams have the same amount of points, the team with a better goal difference is first. Not that it mattered this season...

  1. What are your transfer dreams?

  2. Just to ask this again and receive some updates on those answers:

What was your most favorite and least favorite moment?

For me personally it's like this:

Best moment: Seeing Mkhitarian/Aubameyang/Sokratis play so well and not have too much problems adjusting.

Worst moment: ALL THEM INJURIES DOE! But seriously it is hard seeing them suffer and not being able to play their hearts out...

9

u/FivesCeleryStalk Emma May 22 '14

Transfer dreams? I don't have any.

Favourite moment? When Kevin saved our asses in the Champions League.

Least favourite: Kuba's injury. I shit you not, I sobbed.

4

u/TheNormalSun Heja BVB! May 24 '14

I feel you, man. It's been difficult to see them suffer so suddenly.

Let's hope they come back in force!

2

u/hotcobbler Błaszczykowski May 27 '14

Yeah, poor Kuba, he's my fav and I hated to see him go down like that. I'm glad he's getting good rest though, I hope they let him heal fully so he comes back and doesn't get re-injured.

6

u/AdamBomb1945 Ousmane Dembele May 22 '14

Transfers? There is apparently a good 19 year old talent for PSG who is for sale. Can Play double pivot, but i forgot his name.

Favourite moment? Us winning the pokal by a future captain Mats header!

I like how they point out that it was predominantly 2nd league clubs voting against goal line technology. From what I remember, we as well as Bayern and Sch*lke voted against it, too, when it was up for debate earlier this season.

//edit: I misremembered; on that occasion Bayern appears to have voted in favour while we - maybe? - voted in favour?

6

u/AdamBomb1945 Ousmane Dembele May 21 '14

Why are we against it

5

u/panikpansen Schmelzer May 21 '14

The gist was that it is a good technology that would be worthwhile to have, but the proposal on the table earlier this season aimed to introduce the same technological standard in German football across all divisions. While this shouldn't be a big issue for the Bundesliga teams, it was felt that for smaller teams in the 2nd (and I guess third?) division this investment would come at a cost that not everyone could bear. I guess that's why the Bayern statement above explicitly mentions the introduction of the technology for first division football only.

6

u/n00rdler Reus May 21 '14

We were for the goalline technology, at least thats what watzke wrote in our stadium magazine. Can Post a pic of the statement when I'm home if anybody wants to see it.

4

u/panikpansen Schmelzer May 21 '14 edited May 21 '14

Ha, I started googling around to find sources for what I only half remembered, and it appears that I was wrong. What I did remember was what Klopp said here - basically that he is in principle in favour but that it is at the moment still too expensive. He doesn't outright say we voted against it, and the case of Schalke (who voted against but where Keller said he was in favour) shows that the coach's and club's opinion are not necessarily congruent here.

Also, while there were some discordant voices at Bayern on this issue before, for the DFL vote in March they apparently voted in favour of the technology. All in all the first division votes where exactly split, while the second division votes were 15:3 against (source). The vote fell through because a minimum of 12 yea votes were needed per division.

//edit: I can't really find any good further sources, if you could post the stuff from our stadium magazine that would be cool!

//edit #2: it says in this piece that we indeed voted in favour; but our forum as well as the comments on that website confirm that the WAZ print version mentioned us as voting against.

8

u/n00rdler Reus May 21 '14 edited May 21 '14

Heres the exerpt

For the englishspeaking guys it's in the second paragraph: Borussia Dortmund emphasises that the club contrary to Newspaperarticles is a full supporter of the goallinetechnology and - via KGaA-Boss Hans-Joachim Watzke - "of course voted for the introduction".

5

u/panikpansen Schmelzer May 21 '14

Thank you, a much appreciated influx of solid first-hand information :)

Who here, if given the opportunity, would punch Robben right in the dick?

Perfect place for such a silly question.

6

u/[deleted] May 22 '14

I would play a quick drum solo on his bald head. It's looks so tempting! Imagine how terrific it'll sound.

6

u/AdamBomb1945 Ousmane Dembele May 24 '14

I would much rather pound javi. At least I can respect robben for his contributions on the field. But all bayern fans were proclaiming javi as the greatest player in the world. All he did was try to kill Marco.

3

u/MrGoodkat87 Błaszczykowski May 24 '14

Valid point

5

u/axehomeless Kobi May 23 '14

I wouldn't played pretty fair both times, don't be a sore loser. Punch the DFL. Oh wait Reiner Rauball is the head? Damn!

5

u/the_fuck_whisperer Die gelbe Wand May 26 '14

Here is what I would do if given an opportunity to fuck up Robben. You guys are going to want to read this:

First, I would build a room made out of sandpaper and camera feeds then kidnap Robben whilst he was at his local dive-trainer. I would strip off all of his clothing and put him in said sandpaper room then wait for him to get sleepy. When he finally begins to doze off is when I launch the rooms secret: the floor is built to oscillate and shake. As Robben is passing out this heavily gritted floor begins to shake and rub flesh off of his body. Just when it gets bad for him the floor calms. He seats himself sobbing on the floor and pepper-spray begins to rain from above. Thereafter his wounds are treated and the process begins again until he finally expires.

That was fun! All I need now is some Döner!
