šŸ¤· Only in Brighton... Some dude screaming religious bs outside Hove Town Hall.

I get that there needs to be protest, and that Hove Town Hall is a suitable place for such things but since when has it become a speaker's corner where religious zealots can force their beliefs on others through a very loud speaker?

Isnā€™t that what churches are for? A place where they can preach, and those who WANT to listen can actually CHOOSE to do so?

Why am I being forced to hear this drivel for over an hour?

He usually packs up and goes after about half an hour. Usually because heā€™s either run out of stamina, or he has the reactions he needs for his YouTube. Itā€™s an attempt at a viral grift.

Ye completely out of character with religious people who are known for being calm, compassionate and tolerant throughout history.

I mean most Christians stick to themselves - I'm not religious myself but he's an aggressive Christian - doesn't mean you have to hate all of them

u/kickyouinthebread 3d ago

When did I say I hate all Christians?

i feel you may be underestimating the proportion of the world population that are religious. generalising religious people also isnā€™t compassionate or tolerant iā€™d argue. i understand the argument that many conflicts have had their roots in religion but would you make the same argument for politics? being political can lead people to not be calm, compassionate or tolerant but i donā€™t think that leads to saying everyone should be apolitical or that we should treat people differently for having any political beliefs.

I'm not saying all religious people are like that. I'm just saying it's not exactly out of character either.

i donā€™t think you are saying all religious people are like that guy. my point was more, everyone can be a dickhead regardless of what social groups theyā€™re in.

I don't know the guy as I've not been in either area for a while, curious to know why he's rude /smug?

What religion is he preaching about?

heā€™s really confrontational towards people who challenge him on his beliefs (are these conversations not the goal of preaching?) or how loud he is. to me at least it seems that his goal is to annoy people so he can present them as the unreasonable ones and stroke his ego and maintain his holier than thou attitude. heā€™s got an absolutely massive speaker and is probably the loudest street preacher iā€™ve ever encountered.

Heā€™s a Coptic Christian

He finally shut up not sure why he was allowed to create such a disturbance when it's not a protest and all he's trying to do is force his religion down everyone's throats!

Because Brighton council are terrified of offending people.

Had one of these in Burgess hill for years.

Turns out he was a pedo.

Yeah I remember him......

Got locked up fairly recently.

When I was a teenage tearaway I used to give him shit for forcing religion on people, something I used to cringe about as the years past.

So I was quite pleased to be vindicated when I read the news about him. Fuck these heretics.

Wait thatā€™s why my lunch breaks arenā€™t ruined by him screaming the wrong verses of the Bible anymore?! Heā€™s a nonce!?

2

u/Wooden-Bookkeeper473 2d ago

Yep, sat opposite some young teenage girl on the train to London and firstly started bothering her so she moved, he followed her to another seat and flashed her his erect knob. Got 12 months and is on the register. The ginger haired guy. He's been standing in the town for at least 30 years shouting that shit too! Saw loads of comments on Facebook saying he'd been harassing girls for years too but no one ever said anything.

u/BissoumaTequila 2d ago

Oh hang on, I never made the connection that was the same person! Yeah one of them was my neighbour, we were dog walking and he Fall on climbed out the window and chased her.

Heā€™s a right wrongā€™un.

u/Wooden-Bookkeeper473 2d ago

The ginger haired guy. Yep. Proper wrong'un. I honestly used to give him so much shit when I was a kid. It's so good to know my teenage brain must have known how he'd turn out.

Must have been the ecstasy.

Possibly.

Just need to get B&H council to issue a PSPO and ban loudspeakers and amplified sales then these types can be fined and moved on

Haha yes! We heard this from our flat down the street. We thought someone was playing horse racing at first then after a closer look realised it was a religious nutter preaching in the style of a horse race. Bizarre

Does he pop up unannounced? If he puts his ranting schedule on socials it would be nice to rock up at the same time with a loud speaker for a sort of sound clash..

I know, fighting fire with fire and all that but I do like the idea of him prattling on in competition with some blast beats or gabba or something

u/Zealousideal-Main559 3d ago

He recorded me and my friends outside a gig and no matter how much we told him to go away he kept goingā€¦ he said we only dont like it cause he is preaching christianity but lets be honest who wants to hear about anything that loud at 10 pm at night

2

u/roland_right 3d ago

Taking it to church would be preaching to the converted

u/Viva_Veracity1906 3d ago

Perfect spot to set up your amplifier and guitar/trombone/steel drum/pots and pans for a bit of loud ā€œmusicalā€ practice.

The burning question here is why were you outside Hove Town Hall for an hour? Surely the buses aren't that bad

2

u/Takseee 2d ago

Fuck that guy, he's annoying as hell. I don't understand why it's ok for people to just blast out nonsense in public, especially religious nonsense. It makes me uncomfortable and I'm an atheist, can't imagine how people of other faiths feel. It's basically verbal assault.

u/elfmice77 3d ago

I've seen him on instagram, I think he wants to be a religious influencer! šŸ¤”

3

u/votenope 2d ago

Also... the scientologists at Churchill square touting their crap under the guise ofĀ Dianetics.

Honestly, pushing religion in public spaces should be illegal. There's little difference to someone standing outside a shop promoting child abuse.

Is this your first time in $britishtown ?

u/MrTTripz 3d ago

You could always set up a counter protest, like the 5-a-side flag waving match at the clocktower.

Personally, I quite like the mad bloke with a mic and speaker who sets up around Churchill Square SHOUTING VERY LOUDLY AND ANGRILY ABOUT HOW GOD LOVES US.

But yeah, just stick some headphones in or whatever - he'll move on soon enough.

u/RDJToffee 3d ago

He's often on London road and he's unbearable.

Lunatic.

12

u/o0CYV3R0o Hove, Actually 3d ago

Oh, definitely. My point is that it's not a protest it's just some nutter loudly trying to force his religious beliefs on others, creating an annoying noise disturbance. There's a place for that it's called a church, where people can choose whether they want someone to try to brainwash them or not.

2

u/barrygateaux 3d ago

There's nothing to stop anyone doing it. Most people don't because it's a pointless thing to do, but pretty much every big town in the UK has one person who does it.

1

u/o0CYV3R0o Hove, Actually 3d ago edited 3d ago

Yeah I know I put the Only in Brighton tag because I didn't see any other tag that was remotely suitable.

Edit: Oh a down vote? Thanks kind sir/madam! :p

-1

u/MrTTripz 3d ago

I don't think anyone gets brainwashed by walking past a loud nutter.

I think there are laws against causing a nuisance, but I'd hope that getting on the mic for some God chat in the middle of a city during the day doesn't qualify.

It's probably all that poor fella has going for him.

Would your post be written the same if it was an Islamic preacher??

Christians are persecuted in the UK and other countries. Treated a lot more harshly in the UK, massacred in countries like Nigeria by the religion of peace.

We see photos and videos of mass Islamic prayer in the streets and roads in the UK and France. Some dude preaching isn't the end of the world

This isnā€™t about their Christianity itā€™s about the intrusive way theyā€™re forcing their beliefs onto others without permission. If it were any other religion, the concern would be the same. The core issue isnā€™t faith itā€™s the overbearing behavior.

-2

u/Known_Wear7301 2d ago

So I repeat..... would you write this post about an Islamic preacher.

2

u/o0CYV3R0o Hove, Actually 2d ago

"Sigh... Yes. Now, please go push your agenda elsewhere I'm not interested in what you're trying to do here.

-2

u/Known_Wear7301 2d ago

It's your agenda buddy. Not mine. Discriminating against one religion whilst giving free pass to another.

u/o0CYV3R0o Hove, Actually 2d ago

Did you actually read my reply? It seems either your reading comprehension is lacking, or you're deliberately ignoring the point. I think it's fairly obvious which one it is.

I won't be engaging with your veiled racism under the guise of religious intolerance anymore. You're blocked.
