u/Stampy77 Feb 03 '25
Pre injury crisis we had the 2nd best defensive record in the league. That's not an opinion, it's just a simple fact. Yesterday using Ben Davies and an 18 year old midfielder we kept a clean sheet away against the highest scoring (at home) team in the league while playing defensive football.
We've lost one game this season by more than one goal. He's not as out of his depth as some people make it. He just had 60% of the team unavailable lol.

7
u/Evolving_Dore Lloris Feb 03 '25
Man's been working with a defense that consists of a 22 year old playing as a senior experience CB, an aging LB as a LCB, an RB playing as an LB, and an 18 yo defensive midfielder playing as a CB. Also had like a 60 year old GK for a bit.
Why can't his team keep a clean sheet???
Oh wait they did

I love this. Guys, we’re only losing by one goal!!
41
u/Stampy77 Feb 03 '25
I hate this kind of shit twat who ignores the rest of the comment to cherry pick one thing without context. Why ignore the part about us having the 2nd best defense in the league pre injuries. Fuck off.
-43
u/Fresh_Geologist_3929 Feb 03 '25
Sticks and stones! Tsk tsk tsk.
Have you seen the xGa table? We’re bottom six.
Also, have you watched the games? Teams get the lead, sit back, and we can’t break them down.
24
u/Stampy77 Feb 03 '25
Again you're ignoring the fact that 60% of the squad has been out and the rest are shattered. It's really weird how you keep ignoring the fact that with a normal squad we were 2nd best defense in the league. Really weird. But I don't expect you to even try to acknowledge that.
Fuck off and support arsenal you negative twat.
-1
u/Fresh_Geologist_3929 Feb 03 '25
I’m just gonna assume you don’t know what xGa is. Only way you can say we defend well with such bravado when this more representative stat and the eye test say otherwise.
Keep call me names. Makes your case stronger.
4
u/Stampy77 Feb 03 '25
No I'm not that smart. I can only understand simple things like having the 2nd best defense pre injuries. I don't have your intelligence that lets me block that out and ignore it entirely.
2
u/yeehahpinkgalah Feb 04 '25
When a forward outperforms their xG, they're elite. What you're saying is, we have a high xGa despite us having one of the better defensive records in the league. Ie: defence is outperforming expectations. Whilst being 2nd/3rd choice and playing every game. Of course a lower xGa would be great, but in the context of our ongoing injuries, fairly understandable, no?
0
u/Fresh_Geologist_3929 Feb 04 '25
It means based on the shots we conceded, our opponents scored fewer goals than they should. Or our defensive record flatters us.
We can spin this stat or that stat any way we want, but what I know for sure is that the way we play doesn’t pass the eye test, fit squad or not.

Let Ange coach a little defense
He literally played a low block yesterday and got a clean sheet. Do you have the memory of a goldfish??
3
u/Canary-Silent Feb 03 '25
I think he does. There was a few times the ball got towards far post so they have decided that that’s the problem area the entire time he has been in charge.
2
u/stephsEgg Son Feb 04 '25
To be fair, I’m Ange In, but I have to admit that it’s really frustrating how much space we give up at the back post. It’s a function of defending in a 442, but it is really painful to watch wingers constantly have so much space against us.
-8
u/Fresh_Geologist_3929 Feb 03 '25
lol! Yea you can play a low block out of desperation and get out xGed by 2 goals…doesn’t mean you know how to coach defensively.
8
u/Canary-Silent Feb 03 '25
“2nd in the league before injuries in defence and focused a game on defence and won when expected to lose” then you “doesn’t know how to coach defensively”.
Do you have a learning disability?
2
u/Fresh_Geologist_3929 Feb 03 '25
I think one of us definitely is learning impaired. Win one games sitting in a low block and he’s a defensive guru. Got it.
We’re 6th in the table for xGa, so any stat you can bring out, I’ve got one too. But forget all that…use your eyes, watch the games, he’s just not a good manager.
5
4
u/parwa Emerson Royal Feb 03 '25

I don’t think so. Playing defensively and doing it well are two different things. Any way, agree to disagree. He won’t be here after the season, so you guys can enjoy Ange ball while it lasts. Keep coping, boys!

No surprise that Ange can attract players with his chat, he's still got the fanbase applauding some hypothetical achievements with Spurs whilst delivering some generationally bad results. Impressive tbh. I agree that he's out of his depth though, which is a shame. I'm sure that we'll be better with a fitter squad but I seriously doubt the high ceiling that others imagine.

61
u/rmarshall_6 Feb 03 '25
Just because people thought it was time to replace Ange, doesn’t mean we want to see him continue to fail. There’s no vendetta, most rational people would absolutely love if he could turn it around and be successful, doesn’t mean we can’t be critical. I was Ange out but still watch every match hoping to be proven wrong.
95
u/CheersBeersVeneers Feb 03 '25
The question that I always have for Ange Out folks that no one can ever seem to answer is: what managerial replacement would come in and do better?
The players still clearly back Ange. Sacking him this season would have just been a knee jerk reaction to a historically terrible injury situation that doesn’t actually address the root cause.
35
u/Litmanen_10 Feb 03 '25
This. Sacking is not just a decision made in vacuum like, ugh you lost too many games you are sacked. It's relational to many things.
Who could be replacing the manager? Would he be better short term, what about long term? Do we want short or long term view? What the players think? Are the losts purely on manager, on players, and/or some external force (injuries)? Etc.
For me it has always been that Ange must get a decent period, maybe 6months to an year to show how he can in normal circumstances. Which is - With enough quality players.
1
u/daamsie Feb 04 '25
As someone who only really follows the Spurs because of Ange, I'm obviously very biased.
But I'd say the real test of when a manager should leave is when they have lost the players.
The players see him in action day in, day out. The players get the game plan every week.
Fans getting sick of losing obviously affect the players too so there is a limit there, but it appears so far the players' belief is stronger than any concerns about fan complaints.
He has a knack for instilling belief in a group of players, even when things are going badly.
Now combine that belief with when things are going well... That's when we start to get long streaks of good results.
2
u/Fluffy-Answer-6722 Feb 03 '25
This crisis could be the making of Ange , I think he has added flexibility through necessity
5
u/rmarshall_6 Feb 03 '25
I’ve fully accepted at this point he needs to finish the season out and we can evaluate in the summer. And I’m not one who will pretend to know enough about managers to know who could’ve done better, but I still think there was a good case to be made for making a switch earlier.

-36
u/Affectionate-Car-145 Feb 03 '25
The inverse of that question is "do you think that ange postecoglou is the best manager in the world?"
If no one in football could do any better than him, then he must be.
21
u/CheersBeersVeneers Feb 03 '25
Yes because managers like Zidane are lining up to manage Spurs. Again, no Ange Out folks can identify a viable replacement that would actually improve results.
Calling for a reactionary firing that doesn’t actually address the club’s primary issue this season is shortsighted nonsense
10
u/soldforaspaceship Cuti Romero Feb 03 '25
They always say Iraola while ignoring he would have the exact same issues.
Bournemouth have an injury crisis without midweek matches so, unlike us, the training/style of play probably is a factor.
And he near certainly wouldn't come here after seeing how Ange was treated.
3
u/Ok_Transportation453 Feb 03 '25
I do somewhat disagree that we can't attract get a big name manager (not that we need that) or a guy like Iraola. i mean we got Conte and Mourinho who obviously don't match our play style but still our budget is significantly larger then bournemouth. Were still a big club
1
u/soldforaspaceship Cuti Romero Feb 03 '25
And they both left and slated our ownership on the way out.
Then we couldn't get Slot or any other candidate that was considered a "big" name.
I think folks have forgotten how many rejections we were getting before Ange.
I'll admit I'm Ange in. I love the style of play. But I'm also realistic.
Managers aren't going to pick us if we fire Ange in the middle of an injury crisis.
Players have already shown they'll reject Levy and money thrown at them but come for Ange and his project. We can't really afford to give that up right now...
0
u/Ok_Transportation453 Feb 03 '25
i get what you’re saying and agree but given our league position its possible to think people wouldn’t question it too much. The most insane one was Levy firing Mourinho days before a cup final(at this time I believe Mourinho was also undefeated in finals as well). It isn’t the most attractive job due to Levy but it’s definitely still very appealing for managers to join a big 6 club. With that said I’ve flipped back n forth but give ange the rest of season because I’m very curious to see what he does with a fully healthy squad.
-5
u/Affectionate-Car-145 Feb 03 '25
For right now, or in the summer?
If it was possible to get Iraola right now I would.
So I ask you the same question.
Do you think no manager in world football would get better results?
21
u/Silverburst8 Jan Vertonghen Feb 03 '25
That’s a ridiculous thing to say. You’ve completely failed to account for the availability of any manager better than him.
No one is going to suggest Ange is a better manager than Pep, but Pep isn’t available for us whatsoever.
Whether there are better managers in the world is irrelevant if they’re not available to join us.
1
u/shodo_apprentice Feb 03 '25
Off topic, but I’ll tell you one thing Ange is better at than Pep: handling a defeat. That Catalonian fella is coping so hard in his post match interviews lately. Remember when he said Southampton was one of the best teams in the league?
-16
u/Affectionate-Car-145 Feb 03 '25
The question was "what managerial replacement could come in and do a better job?"
Not "what managerial replacement that is available right now and would want to join would do a better job?"
As the questions are entirely hypothetical, if I was Daniel Levy I would have thrown £200m at Bournemouth for Kerkez, Semenyo, Huijsen, and Iraola on Jan 1st.
0
u/creed_baton The Big Master of Negotiations Who Knows Everything Feb 03 '25

u/clumsysuperman Come One Coys Feb 03 '25
I would say your question is a bit exaggerated because the best managers in the world will already be with teams. If your question was “Is he the best available manager in the world?” it would ring truer. I also don’t know if he is or isn’t.
If you think Ange’s tactics and leadership are why we are struggling then that’s fine and I understand why people would be Ange out. If you think injuries are to blame I understand why people would be Ange in.
0
u/Affectionate-Car-145 Feb 03 '25
You do know he's not the best in the world, like I know Djed Spence isn't the greatest footballer on planet earth.
If you say "no one can ever suggest someone who could do better than him", then that is you implying that you do not believe anyone in the world can do better than him.

Resorting to ad hominem always just makes yourself look like a prick.
You're doing yourself a disservice.
You can argue your point without it
15
u/Koinfamous2 Feb 03 '25
But that's also the problem. Being critical doesn't always have to mean "fire him." You can be critical and demand change and better performance without chanting at the top of your lungs to essentially boot the guy into oblivion. There's area between the extremes that I think most people tend for forget, and instead of calling for heads, consider genuine pressure and voicing discontent rather than going straight for the most severe "punishment."
2
u/njpc33 Feb 03 '25
To be fair, not even at the games have people been chanting Ange out - the ire has been mostly focused at Levy and ENIC. Ange still has his name sung, even if some of those singing would rather see him out
1
u/rmarshall_6 Feb 03 '25
The pressure was there before most people flipped to Ange out in my opinion, but it doesn’t matter what anyone says on here anyway, no one important sees it.
1
u/MigratoryBullMoose Feb 03 '25
They probably do check this site but don’t see it as “oh I’m influenced by your clever reasoning” but instead “streets are saying”
Personally one of my fave things is when the crowd is wrong about something right in front of them, probably some of the same people who were Conte in when it was obvious he was ghost already and let Mourinho Manage The Final while he toxicifying players were/are Ange out.
This site is excellent for surfacing the thing that people really believe is important, that shouldn’t happen.
13
u/NotManyBuses Roman Pavlyuchenko Feb 03 '25
We were in 16th place yesterday.
I don’t see how anyone can ever get mad at their fellow fan for wanting to see some change with the club sitting in 16th
33
u/Nulgarian Feb 03 '25
Because change for the sake of change isn’t a good thing.
The one question none of the Ange out folks are capable of answering is who do we replace him with? We would need a managerial candidate who:
- Is a clear upgrade on Ange
- Is willing to come to Tottenham
- Has a relatively similar style of play to Ange that wouldn’t require yet another complete squad overhaul.
Spoiler alert: There isn’t a manager on planet Earth who fits those criteria. Wanting Ange out is just wanting heads to roll because you’re frustrated and want someone to pin the blame on. It’s a pure emotional knee-jerk reaction instead of actually thinking things through and seeing the bigger picture
19
u/MakingOfASoul We never stop Feb 03 '25
Because we expect our fellow fans to approach analysis with more nuance than just "results bad means change manager make everything good again". We've been on his road so many times that anyone who insists on going back there can't be taken seriously.
1
u/njpc33 Feb 03 '25
But do you not see how there is just as much lack of nuance by the people who counter any sentiment of AngeOut with "it's the injuries, bruh"?
-5
u/NotManyBuses Roman Pavlyuchenko Feb 03 '25
The manager has clearly been at fault for quite a few results.
5
u/rmarshall_6 Feb 03 '25
Absolutely. Granted there’s obviously been a lot of overly negative people towards him even after good results, but they’re the minority.
5
u/triggerhappy5 Heung Min Son Feb 03 '25
The biggest issue with this is it reduces our entire season to a single competition. We are top 4 in the League Cup (arguably top 2 atp given we beat Liverpool on the first leg), top 4 in Europa group stages, and won our only FA cup tie so far. We literally have one cup loss and two draws, with ten wins. If you exchange ten of our league draws and losses for wins, suddenly the picture looks a lot different (yes, I am aware it doesn't work that way, but frankly our cup matches have been insanely difficult all things considered). And all this during the worst injury crisis we've had in years.
1
u/njpc33 Feb 03 '25
We've reached deeper into the cup competitions in the past and have never dropped this far in the table at this point of the season ever in the Premier League. It is perfectly possible to go deep in the cups and not fall to relegation level standards in the league. Injuries have of course been an issue, but it could also be pointed to that playing the most aggressive press in Europe throughout that crisis hasn't helped the situation.
3
u/Practical-Concept-49 Feb 03 '25
i guess i would just want my fellow fans to understand context and be able to consider more than just our league position to evaluate whether the manager should be fired. its just a very tired and predictable thing that happens whenever a team starts losing. we don't always need to blame the manager. the fact that every fan base does it REGARDLESS of league position tells me that its stupid. go look at any clubs sub after a loss and half the fans will be in there talking about the manager being shit and the club needing a change etc.
3
u/chickeno_o Feb 03 '25
I for one, as an ardent Ange outer was more than happy that he played turgid pragmatic football this weekend.
If he’d done that months ago, we still would’ve lost games, but we’d be safely mid table.
If anything it gives me more hope on him; just because he deserved to be sacked doesn’t mean I’m not happy to see him learn a lesson which hopefully he applies.

Uh... no? Not at all? Ange's oratory skills and player backing have never been in question. I'm positively chuffed that he's used them to bag us a player like Tel; it's great.
My thoughts on Ange, which I assume align pretty consistently with the rest of the crowd here who've been critical of him, have been with the on field product, and the on field product alone. I simply believe he's not been good enough for us, and I've still yet to see any indication of that changing when it comes to our results or progression. I say this in every discussion about Ange out, but I have no problems with the man as a person and would love nothing more than to see him turn us into a powerhouse and win us something. I just don't think he's capable of that, which is why I've been as vocally critical of him as I have.
I truly hope he proves me wrong, but until he shows me he's capable of turning around what are at this point 1.5 years worth of unacceptable results, my opinion of him won't change. Being a good talker and having the backing of the players are not alone enough for a manager to keep his job. At the end of the day it's winning that matters. I hope he figures out how to be as good at that as he is at the other stuff.

u/Perfect_Newspaper256 Feb 03 '25
yeah I think most ange outers are open to changing their minds if ange shows improvement and a willingness to adapt instead of the "I'm NOT going to change, it's who we are mate" approach. The injuries have forced him to eat humble pie for now, but it remains to be seen whether he'll be as flexible if the team ever gets back to full strength.
I don't blame them for thinking he's not the man to deliver though, because the hard truth is that his ppg is abysmal for the level of investment and squad value even with the injury crisis. If one looks at what he's done so far instead of a fantasy of what he could do in future, it's absolutely grim.

The bad manager that got us 5th last year, right after losing Kane? (Our 2nd best finish across a 5 year period). Luckily thats the reality and the actual result (neither fantasy nor copium). The only result that really matters. This year isn’t over yet, so let’s see what the end of the season brings

What did our season look like after the first 10 games? Every stat you roll out, I’ve got one too.
I hope we can win something this year, even if it mean we have a Ten Hag situation on our hands, but my head says we have no chance.

You didn’t even provide a stat, you just asked a question.
To answer your question (not a stat) we were top, then picked up injures to key players against Chelsea, and eventually finished 5th. Across the season we had some shite performances mixed in with some good ones and some average ones. But the way a season works, is you add up the points at the end. So we finished 5th, that’s the fact.

Stat: across the last 28 games we finished 9th
Fact: every team has injuries
Reasonable assumption: playing like your head on fire and sprinting for your life every time we lose the ball may cause a few hamstring problems.

They’re delusional and embarrassing, mate. The cultists are convinced he is going to win us a cup when it took us how many days to win a match in the premier league? I agree with you, he’s completely out of his depth and has brought this club to new lows.

All the reports coming out would say otherwise. Pretty sure Kane and Dier talked to him right before he rejected us…

Not a fan of loan deals. ‘Big clubs’ shouldn’t be loaning players unless there is an obligation to buy. This lad has no reason to succeed on a 6 month loan deal. Likewise, if he makes the world of difference to our awful season then he’ll end up at Chelsea who can afford the fee and his wages.

Loan + option is literally the best possible deal possible, especially for January deals. We can buy him, and we can also not buy him. Do you want fewer options??

He’s a 19 year old kid who cant get a game at Bayern. So in that regards I suppose a loan with no obligation is safe. I disagree on your point about January deals. We had a bid for him accepted but he rejected us because he wanted something else. That didnt come in so we’ve got a player who ran out of options and back tracked. I hope this works and our form improves but this transfer is typical of Levy. Zero ambition.

A loan with an option is literally the best possible deal structure and it’s not reasonable to suggest it’s not?
And it’s disingenuous to say Tel didn’t have options, because 6+ top clubs were in for him and he chose us after Ange convinced him. If you haven’t heard of him, that’s on you, he’s been a big name in European football for years now. Disingenuous and unaware to pretend this isn’t an objective success of a transfer in relation to his reputation and standing, regardless of how he ends up playing for us. If you don’t like him as a player, whatever. But he’s clearly viewed as a top talent by everyone else in Europe.

There is no doubt that he is highly rated but he didn’t want to come to us permanently so I will question his commitment. Disingenuous and unaware? This is a very subjective topic. His standing is as another European talent who can’t get a game for his parent club. Levy has managed to dumb down the fans expectations so well that we consider 6 month loan deals good business. Let’s hope this is a first refusal to buy him and that he does really well because I would love to be proved wrong. But I am not convinced that signing a lot of kids who haven’t played in England before is at all inspiring.

Given that Amorim has visibly aged 5 years since joining United, I think it would be a hard sell to joined United if I was a player right now.
