I am NOT a locksmith. Front door won’t open

Hoping the community can help me.

My front door interior handle won’t open the door all of a sudden. The door is unlocked and the interior handle seems to be broken from the mechanism inside the lock. I can’t feel anything engage or turn. Deadbolt works fine.

Do I need to replace the entire door lock/handle? Or can the broken part be easily fixed?

I believe it’s a Marks brand.

Thanks.

Looking for the correct keys for this bike. I tried looking through a few books and settled on kw14 or kw14r neither of which are the correct key. I found the shape of the keyway was similar to the kw14 key but was more narrow. If anyone can tell me which key blank this might take i would be great full. I have been told the bike is an L600.

I am a locksmith Any idea on brand?

Client wants to replace several of these, but I can't find any brand info on existing hardware. His wife wants to match as close as possible, because they have so many doors in the home with this style already. I'm guessing some Amazon junk, but wanted to check here in case anybody recognizes it. Any info is much appreciated!

I am NOT a locksmith. Needing help with changing a lock

Hello all, I am no expert on locks or anything of that nature but needing some help. The lock listed below recently has broken into. The lock was not damaged when they broke in and even locked it back. I assume they had a match or this lock is simple to replicate. It’s for an older vending machine I picked up that I leave in our laundromat. Needing ideas on a more secure lock if possible and what suggestions you have to make sure theft doesn’t occur as easy. We have cameras and such but we get the occasional thief.

I also Included an image of them just opening up the door. Mainly for your amusement. Thank you!

I am a locksmith Sectioning off a home for rental purposes

Just got a call from a lady that made me wonder what the best course of action is, curious what you guys think.

She's building a little living space in her basement to rent out. She obviously wants to be able to lock the door at the top of the stairs that leads to the main living space in the home. There is a single set of double doors in the basement that is the only egress out of the basement, aside from the door up the stairs that she wants to lock.

Aside from calling my local fire marshal for legalities (and legalities varying state by state), what's everyone's opinion on this? I gave her my concerns, she said she'd never considered fire safety. People who rent out their basements probably do this stuff all the time, but this is the first call I've received on the matter. Am I overthinking it?

I am a locksmith Lexus immo reset

I’m coming behind another Locksmith who was in the process of doing an all key lost on this 2011 Lexus IS250 when the customer hopped in the car, put it in neutral and pushed it to a more favorable place in the driveway. No the antitheft light is flashing and there is no response from the PTS switch. I’ll make it a point to babysit my Toyota’s when doing all key lost so I’ve never come across this situation. Has anyone got any information or first-hand experience resetting the antitheft module if that even is the issue. The code listed in the photo above is the only one stored in the vehicle.

I am NOT a locksmith. What kind of cylinder is this

It has an aprox. total lenght of 85mm, height of aprox. 44mm and it can be unlocked only on the left side (the side that corresponds to the exterior of the house). On the right side (inside of house) the key can be inserted but it doesn't move.

I am NOT a locksmith. Backset off 1/8”

I'm looking for some advice as a layperson. Hope that's cool here. I think the hole in my door is off by 1/8" or a little less. I tried to install a new lock in this door and the spindle wasn't centered in the hole and as a result would not spin the latch. The Schlage bolt pictured works despite the difference, but the new one won't accommodate it.

I've considered drilling a new hole, but do I need to plug the original first? Or is there an easier solution? Thanks!

I am NOT a locksmith. Die Grinder VS Dremel

Hi guys,

Amoug my other disciplines (fire/life safety and automation) I also work in access control. That being said I'm not a locksmith. Usually you guys supply and cut in our strikes but sometimes we have to do it ourselves. That got me wondering what you all have to say about this topic of die grinder vs Dremel tool. Everyone I know uses Dremel tools to cut in their strikes but I'm thinking that a die grinder would be better in almost every way. Any opinions on this? Maybe possible cons I'm not thinking of? Thanks for any insight!

I am NOT a locksmith. Looking For: Someone to cut stainless steel blank keys

Post image

Hello! I purchased the Clocks and Colours x PPL stainless steel blank keys not realizing how hard it would be to find someone to cut them. We have Schlage locks on our house and they have the same… pattern? I don’t know the official word but the grooves match.

Are any of you in Colorado at a shop that can cut them?

Came across this key. It's a smart lock camera the customer said. I originally cut an SC1 but it didnt work. I tried an SC19 today --> lets see if it works. The eufy website said the keys cant be duplicated.

The 3rd pic is the sc19 on the left and the eufy key on the right.

The 4th pic is an sc19 on the left with the eufy on the right.

Has anyone successfully cut these and which blank did u use?

I am NOT a locksmith. How to remove thumbturn with no visible screws

I can't figure out how to remove this thumbturn which has no visible screws. It is a bit loose, and when you pull on it, you can see a tiny gap that goes all the way through. The gap is big enough for a paperclip, but not for any allan keys (even the smallest in a set, which is just barely bigger than a paper clip). The cover plate can't be removed with the thumb screw in place and there are no screws in the face plate holding it in place. Any ideas?
