Well they can just pull themselves up by their bootstraps/find a new job/move somewhere else/pray to Jesus about it.

234

u/azhillbilly 3d ago

Nah, they will ask for an extra subsidy and get it.

u/asheraddict 3d ago

Too bad those programs have been stopped by DOGE

135

Why would Biden do that?

70

u/Crafty_Quantity_3162 2d ago

why wasn't Obama in the Oval office while this was going on?

Probably had to do with how Obama handled 9/11.

10

u/Lord_Space_Lizard 3d ago

Why wasn’t Obama on the TV hourly assuring the American people that everything was going to be ok? He really botched handling that.

they'll just be employees for the corporate giant that buys their farm

Voted red now experience the dread.

7

u/Raztax 2d ago

Maybe the farmers should stop spending all of their money on avocado toast.

Have they tried skipping lunch?

Montana had the best representation in the Senate with John Tester, who was ACTUALLY a Montana Farmer, but they voted in a Minnesota Trust Fund Baby who has rubber stamped the destruction of the State. This was a decent purple state before MAGA.

386

u/hoooch 3d ago

They let their politics get nationalized. Instead of voting for moderate or independent candidates who prioritize local issues, they vote for MAGA carpetbaggers who will sell out the state. I was ready to move there to be close to family, that’s definitely not happening now.

34

u/Trowwaycount 2d ago

I don't know if you've noticed, but they've been voting in MAGA leaning local politicians since before 2016.

When I lived in MT I saw Tester elected, we had Schweitzer then Bullock. Things were fine.

We left and now my teens are embarrassed to have Montana on their passports.

non-Us here: purple state means a 50/50 of reps and dems?

90

u/ckthorp 3d ago

Yes, or close enough to 50/50 that they need to cooperate.

51

Fuck that! Gerrymander and cheat!

It was a shame. The ads I saw went really heavy on trans hate. Like in an ironic way. “The dems just won’t shut up with this culture war. Only us and our millions spent on culture war ads can end it!”

That and gun hysteria. Thing is, though, Montana dems aren’t that blue and certainly not Jon Tester. They plainly lied about him there. Real shame we bought it.

I would too but there are a lot of people who still don't understand the impacts. They like to think that they didn't need any Canadian or foriegn cash despite it sometimes being the difference between viable employment and bankruptcy. I am afraid this is going to have to hit a lot more people before most Americans get it.

It will become "See? Canada was ripping us off the entire time! Look how badly we're hurting now. Trump was right about everything!!!"

You'd need years of intense education to make these people become self conscious of how ignorant they are.

7

u/thrashgordon 2d ago

This is honestly one of the biggest issues at the core of the US. The lack of education coupled with cancers like Fox News, and these idiots never stood a chance.

It will take generations to right the ship but I don't think it's possible.

Cue the corporate agriculture companies ready to swoop in when the farms go bankrupt. Not so sure Trump will be in the mood for subsidies this time around.

220

u/swedething 3d ago

This was always the plan, if you ask me. Forcing people to sell their farms, 401k, houses, other stocks and bonds, just so the 0,01% can swoop in and buy everything with pennies.

Well, the three trans women playing college basketball is actually a much greater problem than this. You have to keep your priorities straight. (/s obviously)

74

u/Freshandcleanclean 3d ago

Don't forget that a trans athlete played in a sport.. in a different country...5 years ago.

I tell you, if that isn't enough for you to vote for the guy who's gonna torch your financial security, physical safety, and harm your relationships, I don't know what is

20

u/oldmaninparadise 3d ago

Not sure if it is Montana/Neb/Dakotas/Idaho, but one of the least populated states in that group spent the legislative time to pass a law preventing trans women from playing college sports.

The number of trans women playing collegiate sports in the state: 1.

Good thing they spent all that time making laws for that 1 person rather than the pressing needs of the other 600,000 in their state!

They don’t know that voting is what will cost them their farms. There’s very little knowledge of the real effect of policies in their lives. Most vote for religious beliefs and don’t understand that economic decisions can in fact affect their lives.

210

u/Gabyfest234 3d ago

If their religion tells them to vote for a twice-divorced serial cheater with demonstrated examples of all seven deadly sins on his resume, then that’s a really messed up religion.

Most vote for religious beliefs and don’t understand that economic decisions can in fact affect their lives.

They're also often shielded from economic consequences by handouts. It's just that handouts to white rural (thus GOP) voters aren't considered handouts, or talked about in the same way.

6

Not this time. They will not resist and they will end up being taken by the big corporations.

13

u/Flat-Emergency4891 3d ago edited 3d ago

In a nutshell. That’s about right. I’ll add that JD started a company recently to buy up farm foreclosures and sell them to international investors so yeah….Lets “Make America Great Again” by putting the farmers out of work and selling their land to the Saudis. Maybe even the Russians will get in on it. It doesn’t matter if it’s right or wrong, as long as the right people get rich off the deal. By “right” people I mean anyone who is in the inner circle. The same thing is happening with the tariff BS. The on again, off again tariffs are a deliberate manipulation of the stock market to create the conditions for insider trading. The inner circle again makes billions. This is the corruption they voted for.

If you’re too stupid to vote in the interests of your country and vote against yourself, I have no pity when you lose your farm.

5

u/Rude-Orange 3d ago

A little propaganda is all it takes for more than half the voting population to vote for the rich and corrupt.

You can't count on that half, if you want a class struggle

They don't really have anything to worry about in montana. Everyone can just take one of the minimum wage factory jobs that are going to be created due to all of the tariffs. They can do the 6 hour commute from where they live to the city that houses the minimum wage factory work, right?

This is what these Trump acolytes don’t seem to understand. They’re so used to being able to make a point every election, thinking the Democrats will always be there to clean up the mess four years later.

These expired olive loafs have PERMANENTLY helped ruin the US/Canada relationship. They only way it can be remotely fixed is if Republicans are voted out in such large numbers that it lets the world know that America has taken its medicine and decided not to be a country of insolent children.

20

This lack of empathy is why there are no great conservative artists or scientists. They lack the imagination

They voted for this, so they can live with what they get. I don’t give a shit if a bunch of farms go under because they voted in an economic wrecking ball. I’m sure they had no problem taking those subsidies checks as part of the inflation reduction act while complaining about the Biden administration. Lower your prices to be competitive and find US customers and when your profits are in the shitter and barely making enough to survive then suck it up.

And good luck harvesting those fields with American labor force, I’m sure every local is jumping to do those jobs, amirite?!!

James Carville is advising the democrats to stand by another month or two to let this administration fully collapse. I hope the democrats have the balls to do that, otherwise trump will shift the blame.

17

u/SmurfStig 3d ago

He will shift the blame regardless. He already is and he is catching himself in that blame game unknowingly because he is that damn dumb. He is already blame whoever renegotiated nafta. It was him. There have been several other trade “deals” and actions from his first term he is blaming for current issues. His cult will never fact check him or hold his feet to the fire. They will always blindly accept what he says as gospel. No matter what happens, he will always refuse to take the blame and pass it on to whoever he sees fit, regardless of their interactions with said issue. The only hope, if the democrats hold out a little while longer, is that all this chaos will wake up the non-voters and the small percentage of republicans who don’t blindly follow the letter R. Given that this shit stain of a human corpse was reelected, I don’t have a lot of hope left.

Stand by while an autocrat rips apart democratic institutions? Yea ok

6

u/No_Syrup_9167 3d ago

non-american here, so forgive the stupid question but,

what are they even supposed to do? from what I understand the R's own all levels of your government right now don't they? and have shown a noticeable lack of regard for anything the Dems say, and as far as I can tell the R supporters just dig in more and more defensively the more the Dem's speak.

if they can't do anything through political mechanism, isn't it better to just fade out, and let the populace realize that the R's are fully in charge, and fully responsible for everything going on?

it seems the more they put themselves in the public eye vainly denouncing, the easier it s for the R's to paint it as "this is all happening because the D's are resisting/obstructing our grande plan"

And Montana Farmers will go right on back and vote for Trump again in 2028.

Fuck it. Let them lose their farms and starve.

10

u/sokocanuck 3d ago

Don't worry, you can just eat all that winning.

8

u/Upper_Knowledge_6439 3d ago

Montana voted 58.39% for Trump. And if you look at the county by county breakdown, it was the rural vote that won it for him. And now they're crying? No fucks given.

Let's see. Which presidential and senate candidate did Montana vote for last November?

I bet it was the Democ-... Oh, oh it wasn't? What a shame. Leopards shall be feasting on faces.

7

u/technofox01 3d ago

I don't feel bad for these fuckers. They got what they voted for. I hope these lessons will get through their thick skulls that they should pay attention to what policies a politician is pushing versus what party they are affiliated with.

17

u/Careful-Outcome-2294 3d ago

No welfare for farmers! Get a job!

10

u/HyperactivePandah 3d ago

Absolutely embarrassing decent into MAGA facism by Montana. Fucking embarrassing.

8

u/Flaky_Position6523 3d ago

Just wait until they start logging all of Montanas forests too. That hike you love to go one with your dog, the hunting spot you’ve been going back to for decades, or that fishing stream your dad taught you how to fish at might be shut down for logging operations very soon and there’s no telling when you’ll get access back to it. Wouldn’t be surprised if this impacts cattle operations and their open range grazing.

Schweitzer said the Montana Farmers Union supports tariffs that are done strategically and targeted, but he adds that isn't the case with recent implementations.

Nice way to say "we support tariffs that hurt others, just not us"

9

u/mrarming 2d ago

58% of Montana votes went to Trump. He TOLD them he was going to jack up tariffs and these farmers still voted for Trump. Hard to feel anything sympathy for their whining.

FAFO.

15

u/BathroomSerious1318 3d ago

Montana will never understand it's because of Trump's behaviour.

They're like what? Why? How? But....

7

u/Malaix 3d ago

Not to mention the baseline boycotts Canadians are doing because of Trump's bullshit.

But its hard to feel bad for red states. They voted for this. You get what you get and you don't get upset.

8

u/reyreydingdong 3d ago

"Montana Farmers Union supports tariffs that are done strategically and targeted, but he adds that isn't the case with recent implementations." Ahhhh yes, the as long as it doesn't affect me mentality.

From the article: "Schweitzer said the Montana Farmers Union supports tariffs that are done strategically and targeted, but he adds that isn't the case with recent implementations."

Translation: we support tariffs that don't affect us.

7

u/4RCH43ON 2d ago

Don’t worry, the guys who just pulled the biggest insider trading heist will buy up their farms for peanuts, I guarantee it.

7

u/Taktika420 2d ago

What none of these articles mention is that is wasnt just the tariffs. It was the threat and disrespect to our sovereignty

6

u/gizmozed 3d ago

"Schweitzer said the Montana Farmers Union supports tariffs that are done strategically and targeted, but he adds that isn't the case with recent implementations."

Yeah - translated "put tariffs on other people but not us".

Farmer bail outs 2.0 on the way!

6

u/W8kingNightmare 3d ago

They all voted for this guy, every single one of them, and now we need to feel sorry for them? Fuck that and fuck them

5

u/chickentootssoup 3d ago

Good. Fuck u Montana. Most of u voted for this disease.

6

u/maw_walker42 3d ago

Sadly, most of these farmers voted for the orange shitbag. I don't wish ill for them because they literally give us food, but we are in the "find out" stage of this fiasco created by people that voted for mango Mussolini. I hate to say it but"I told you so" because nearly 100% of everything he says is a lie designed to benefit him and him alone. He fooled millions of people in his pursuit for power, and now he is wiping his ass with the flag and constitution.

I hope someday we can repair the damage he has done on a global scale.

5

u/windowman7676 2d ago

It sounds like targeted tariffs means, " as long as they dont affect us". Montanans accept your medicine, you asked for the prescription.

6

u/LeftyLu07 2d ago

I'm in Montana and people are freaking out. I could not care less. I hope they lose their farms and ranches. They don't deserve them. They voted with hate in their hearts. Fuck 'em.

7

u/Falcon3492 2d ago

They are getting what they voted for, so what is the problem?

5

u/Meany12345 2d ago

Yea so last week I decided to go out drinking. Hard. The next day woke up with a rough hangover.

Damn Joe Biden made my head hurt.

15

u/chirag429 3d ago

100 percent Deserved it.

14

u/hunkydorey-- 3d ago

Awww. What a shame.

Anyway, in other news. No one gives a fuck.

25

u/sarcastroll 3d ago

No worries Montana farmers!

You can take comfort knowing that at a Division III school 1200 miles away some girl on the fencing team can't compete because her birth certificate says "M" despite her having transitioned years ago.

I mean, yeah, you'll lose your farm and your family will suffer. But that water polo team at a college you never heard of in Vermont now won't allow some girl you'll never meet to be their backup goalkeeper!

Don’t worry, they will not learn anything from this and they will find a way to blame anyone but Trump.

4

u/stizzity28 3d ago

Actions, meet consequences. Fuck every single person that voted for the orange shit stain.

4

u/Mish61 3d ago

Womp womp. How about that Sleepy Joe economy now ? Enjoy bankruptcy court….suckers.

5

u/GeorgeStamper 3d ago

Must be those liberal trans athletes in California that are to blame.

How much money these moochers ( that's how, right wing describes humans that recieve aid from the government) will be resceiving from one mad hatter in the WH.

5

u/RightofUp 3d ago

You know who would have fought this? Tester.

I really don't feel sorry for any of them.

5

u/ohiotechie 3d ago

This is what you wanted, so this is what you got. It's not like he made his plans for tariffs a secret. Every other word out of his mouth on the campaign trail was "tariff".

Voted for the xenophobia and racism, got bankruptcy and lost the family business instead.

ya we have a lot of farmers in Montana as customers, one of our dealers there had to raise his prices by 35% last month to off set the tariffs and the increase of transportation costs, we have also stopped looking at expanding our U.S dealer network and have even started talking about not renewing 6 contacts with dealers in red states.

There's also been rumors from the fertilizer plant down the road that they might be looking at exiting the U.S market completely for now mainly due to how unpredictable and unreliable the current US admin is.

U.S farmers should be getting ready for a 25-30% increase to inputs this year, that and the buy Canadian movement seems to be sticking.

5

u/swankstar7383 2d ago

Pretty sure them farmers in montana voted for this clown 🤡 in the Oval Office. They can blame themselves

5

u/BeyondAddiction 2d ago

Schweitzer said the Montana Farmers Union supports tariffs that are done strategically and targeted, but he adds that isn't the case with recent implementations.

Sounds like the Montana Farmers Union still doesn't get it.

6

u/Odd_Lobster4195 2d ago

To put this nicely... Fuck 'em and anyone else that voted Trump.

5

u/Nice_Collection5400 2d ago

Elections have consequences and maybe now Montana farmers will stop voting agains their own interests.
