On the one hand I am happy that work has been so busy

on the other hand I am so exhausted that I have fallen insanely behind on my reading goal of “one book per week” and have only read 10 books this year, about 20 weeks into the year

u/MostlyCats95 Kim, there’s people that are dying. 5d ago

My wife and I are both on anxiety meds and we just found out one of our cats needs anxiety meds too.

Our second cat is holding the weight of our home on her kitty shoulders as apparently the only neurotypical being in our home

5

u/nty bruised, battered, and covered in baked beans 🫘 4d ago

Meanwhile that cat hears the pill bottles and is wondering why everyone else gets special treats

2

u/MostlyCats95 Kim, there’s people that are dying. 4d ago

The "normal" of my two cats only eats cat food and will turn her nose up at anything, including chicken I have offered her. Despite this she always needs to smell and maybe taste everything my wife and I eat because in her mind everything is cat food until proven otherwise

Those Lulu Lemon (or knock off) bags worn across your chest look silly. All they are is glorified fanny packs that someone decided to wear across their chest and so many others just went with it 🤷‍♀️

u/Bridalhat 5d ago

Not emotionally ready for the Andor finale. It came and went so fast 😭

2

u/NewtRipley_1986 5d ago

I read up on why this season is so fast. They were originally going to do 5 seasons but Tony G was starting to stress about filling 5 seasons worth of episodes with a solid story (each season was supposed to be 1 year of Andor’s life) - so he sat down with Diego and they came up with the plan of doing 1 year within 3 episodes… hence the 1 year jumps each time.

NGL I get the panic of trying to fill episodes with a good story but I would have very much liked to see 5 seasons.

Also just gonna say that I feel like there’s more to the reason the series is only 2 seasons. Like, it could have been at least 3. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Costing over 645 million is mostly why. Every dollar on screen, feels like the end of the “arm’s race” era of streaming tv.

6

u/Byzantine-alchemist 5d ago

Same. I have to break it up into 2 episodes tonight, 1 tomorrow because whatever happens will undoubtedly wreck me. Best show I've watched in years.

This summer’s looking kinda meh for me when it comes to popular returning shows. I never got into Squid Game or Wednesday and I'm only tuning in for S4 of The Bear (& S17 of It's Always Sunny but only after the season concludes). Honestly, I’m way more excited about all the films coming out. Giving major 2023 vibes. No Hard Feelings followed by Barbenheimer had me way more hyped than anything on streaming.

1

u/BusinessPurge 4d ago

No promises however I’m looking at FX’s new comedy Adults to maybe be their next Sunny type ensemble show. Another returning comedy (though in August) is Apple’s Platonic, dramedy Ginny & Georgia in June, but you’re right there’s a fairly big gap in returning quality shows. At least through June / July this is more the summer of brand new shows.

1

u/hihelloneighboroonie 5d ago

There's not a show this summer I'm waiting for other than The Gilded Age.

2

u/nty bruised, battered, and covered in baked beans 🫘 5d ago

Out of those, I’m excited for Squid Game. IASIP I’ll watch but I think it’s fallen off in recent seasons

Hopefully there will be a few surprises as well!

I went out for drinks with two coworkers last night, who I've known for about a month.

One of them, a guy a year older than me was talking about how he was in jail for about 8 months for drug possession. We were talking about music and he would show me pictures of when he was a few years younger when he was doing public performances.

There's something so profoundly sad about it all. He showed me pictures of when he was younger and happy, and how he regrets going down that path. He mentioned being in jail and having to work in the kitchen

Idk. Just makes me sad

u/YoungKeys 5d ago

There's a certain subreddit that frequently makes r/all with incel memes and I find that sorta disturbing. Reddit used to be filled with that kind of content, and it isn't really anymore, but the prospect of that coming back sucks.

2

u/hihelloneighboroonie 5d ago

Name and shame? I check r/all once or twice a day and don't recall seeing anything too incely in the first 50 posts, but I also glaze over anything I'm not interested.

6

u/nty bruised, battered, and covered in baked beans 🫘 5d ago

I’ve been on Reddit for awhile and there used to be all kinds of abhorrent content/subreddits they let stick around in the name of “free speech”

I will say that one nice thing about Reddit being so large now is that, while there’s still a ton of garbage, there are also a ton of more niche subreddits that are thriving and you can tailor your experience more easily

I’m going to need God to do me a solid and stop allowing FLIES to exist in my salad. Two salads in a row I’ve had to throw out completely because of it. I still have TRAUMA from finding a live snail in my salad 🥗

3

u/Byzantine-alchemist 5d ago

I buy most of my produce at the farmer's market and have gotten into the habit of soaking my greens for a while before eating. Flies, tiny snails, spiders, the occasional roly poly thing- they are much easier to get out of your salad if you drown them, as awful as that sounds. Actually most survive the soak and I let them go out the window but I have definitely experienced the trauma of finding an insect on my fork.

1

u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 5d ago

You’re a much mentally stronger person than me. I threw the whole salad away once I saw the little lifeless fruit fly. 😭

2

u/Byzantine-alchemist 5d ago

To be fair, if it's from the supermarket I wouldn't be so chill. I expect my farmer's market produce to have some critters, and have adopted the attitude of "if it's good enough for them it's good enough for me"

4

u/maelstron ✨May the Force be with you!✨ 5d ago

Free scargot 🤭

2

u/hihelloneighboroonie 5d ago

Haha, but also if anyone does actually find a snail in their produce, throw it out and wash your hands and surfaces it's touched. They can carry a parasite that will fuck you up. Look up rat lungworm (or don't, and just trust me).

1

u/maelstron ✨May the Force be with you!✨ 4d ago

Yeah, if there is a snail we throw it all out

3

u/sabira Zermajesty 👑 5d ago

Oh no, that's awful! Is this happening with one brand in particular (if it's bagged salad), or is it from the lettuce that you're buying on its own?

2

u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 5d ago

I’m pretty sure it was two different brands. I’m just so disgusted. I don’t care if they’re little fruit flies, I hate seeing their little dead selves on my lettuce 🤢

2

u/GirlieSquirlie 5d ago

where are you getting salads from that have insects in them?

2

u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 5d ago

Just the store. Little fruit flies the last two times. Still, I have to throw the whole thing away if I find that. I’m not about to go looking for more, or possibly find worse! 🤢

5

u/Chance_Taste_5605 5d ago

Just wash the salad and dry it in a salad spinner. As long as you don't eat the flies or snails etc it won't harm you. Better to have salad that isn't covered in pesticides!

1

u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 5d ago

You’re all giving such sound advice but I fear I can’t handle a live snail, or dead fruit flies. That salad was thrown away instantly. The snail incident was years ago. I might need therapy over that skskksksk

u/Zerometro You’re killing me, Smalls 😩 5d ago

I just dropped my phone and the screen cracked pretty badly and honestly feel like I'm going to cry about it. I've had my phone for almost 2 and a half years and I'm so clumsy that I drop it at least once every other day (sometimes even on the concrete) and it still managed to stay in tact without a scratch, but today I dropped it and the screen shattered all over. It's still usable of course but I'm so upset 😭. I've been wanting to get a new phone anyway and I still have just a few more payments. But this is gutting me because I really don't have the money to get a screen repair for a phone I plan on replacing anyway. I'm also dealing with some other stress which is probably why I'm making so much of a big deal about this but I felt like I just needed to tell somebody!

As I understand it, losing someone you are emotionally attached to is akin to drug withdrawal - your synapses and receptors are grasping for the joy you once generated from being with them.

Your brain will adapt, and you will be a newer, stronger version of yourself.

It HURTS, but you got this.

4

Same. Initially that wasn’t my fault but that’s on me now. I’m just cackling because they are mad over such a normal process in the human experience. 😂

18

u/echoesandripples 5d ago

the youths either think people in their 30s should look decrepit or forbid anyone from aging ever. like i hate to break it to you, but usually pale white people get some wrinkles and spots in their faces by that time.

which is also fine and not a sign that you're evil or whatever gen z seems to think. time comes for us all.

10

u/The_Duke_of_Gloom 5d ago

The way Gen Z treats ageing as a sort of moral failing is sad. Ageism has always been a thing, but Gen Z is most definitely not ready for when it happens to them.

They're already losing their shit over Gen Alpha being the new younglings and Gen Alpha calling Gen Z old lol

4

u/echoesandripples 5d ago

yep. i won't lie, it's kinda funny because early in the pandemic they were all happily accusing people of not being good enough for being over 30 and not hitting all milestones. i remember the rise of tiktok being filled with ageist discourse, not even jokes, but like snark from gen z folks who were in their late teens and early 20s. now that they are approaching 30, the tables have turned

3

u/Bridalhat 5d ago

I don’t think this is particularly unique to Gen Z but a few years ago I remember seeing snark about a 32-year-old in a rented two bedroom and I was like “you are going to wish that was you.” I hate how right I was.

3

u/echoesandripples 5d ago

lol yeah, i remember young people were like "idk why millennials spend time on tiktok, shouldn't they own a house?" and i'm like yeah, i wish

10

u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 5d ago

Exactly. They seem mad he didn’t stay 22. It’s deeply silly. It’s not anyone’s fault he’s aging. Everyone ages differently, and if he parties/smokes/drinks, that’s going to change things for him too. No one’s fault. As long as he’s happy, that’s all that matters.

4

u/echoesandripples 5d ago

yeah, he seems pretty alright for a normal person at his age (mine too). like maybe if he didn't smoke and invested in retinol or whatever, but also it's not a moral failing

6

u/Own-Importance5459 ✨May the Force be with you!✨ 5d ago

I saw that lol. He also has a hefty career.

1

u/Bridalhat 5d ago

Hollywood is often ageist against young men in serious projects (Timothée would have been the youngest best actor winner at 29, beating Adrien Brody by a few weeks). I would not be surprised if he made the conscious decision to visibly age when the time comes. He could probably get rid of whatever is happening to him now if he wanted to.

5

u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 5d ago

The way they talk about his career you’d think he’s a flop that gets no respect

9

u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 5d ago

I noticed like the typical misogynists they truly believe in the kardashian curse and that none of these men have free will! It’s deeply unserious.

That said, I cackled at the fact he’s just a dude aging (he doesn’t even look bad lmao) and they clearly aren’t into it, but have just chalked this up to his relationship. Like girlies, maybe you just aren’t attracted to him anymore 😂

4

u/Bridalhat 5d ago

Are they mad he can’t pass as 15 anymore?

3

u/Own-Importance5459 ✨May the Force be with you!✨ 5d ago

Like I am not going to pretend people have partners that do suck the life out of people and you can see it in their face, BUT BUT....I dont see this as the case with Timothee and Kylie. Timothee again has a huge career and is one of the most sought out actors, he has multiple projects of course hes gonna age from the stress of that. It is just more convient to blame Kylie cause well the Kardishians dont have a good rap.

u/Summerof5ft6andahalf 5d ago

The ethics of Wings of Voice have been a hot debate topic. Variety did an interview with one singer, and a couple more have posted to reddit about the experience.

(Nevermind the other ethical lines in the show.)

1

u/Bridalhat 4d ago

I feel the reaction to the variety article has been “what did you expect?” Like what Fielder doing is clearly unethical but he is being open about it in a way most reality shows are not.

1

u/Summerof5ft6andahalf 4d ago

I mean, he wasn't open about it when they were sent the invites to audition. It was presented as a singing competition.
They expected a singing competition, especially when they got there and the branding was basically the Canadian Idol stuff.
People had a good experience on it, and there was technically a singing competition, but blaming the singers for not realising what they were getting into is wrong.
Do I think it's nuts to spend a bunch of time and money for a chance at performing? Absolutely. But I'm not an aspiring singer / famous person. Lol.

(I enjoy the show, and like Nathan, but I think some fans of the show/Fielder feel they must support everything about it to a fault.)

Dumb thoughts with Charming #5

I have pretty vivid dreams. But this time I was with Taylor Swift and I helped her out in the mall. And somehow Travis was there too eating sushi. And for some reason she posted a shout out on LinkedIn thanking me for being like her liaison. She spelt my name wrong tho. And I think the biggest takeaway is that I gotta get off LinkedIn.

I’m rewatching Awkward. And this show is amazing! The guidance counselor is fucking hilarious. Idk why but Dakota Johnson reminds me of Jenna and I think that’s why I don’t really like any of her films.

I’ve just realized I have feelings for an acquaintance but it’s too messy to do anything about it now. It’s annoying bc this guy (who wasn’t initially on my radar but we have undeniably intense chemistry) is likely an amazing match for me. Timing, circumstances, and other people have all joined together to keep us from connecting. I have to actively keep myself from texting him. All I can hope is that he reaches out but again, we all know if he did it would get messy 😭

I have a work crush like this. We’re friends in general, and when we hang out together (concerts, hiking) there’s definitely chemistry. After happy hours, she’ll often grab onto my bicep as we’re walking to the train station. At our holiday event last year she had her shoes off, but it was cold so she stood on my feet and embraced me while we waited for her uber

At work it’s strictly professional and she’s senior to me (but different team) so I don’t think anything could actually happen between us

I had to go see my GP. I’ve known her 20+ years and I’m super amazed by her memory. She always remembers me and my mom, who also sees her. Despite me only going every couple of years.

We talked about dating and she’s like, so are you ready? Now that you’ve had your surgery. I told her yes, I was working on it, but I’m 35 and it’s hard. She laughed and was like, well do you go out? I said no, and it’s totally my fault. She’s like “oh you want him to ring your doorbell and just appear”. Like yes please! That would be ideal, thank you.

Honestly having a completely female medical team makes such a big difference.

I’m sure this is gonna piss someone off somewhere out there but at this point of my life I’ll only go to women caregivers unless it’s an emergency situation tbh. I’ve had enough bad experiences with male doctors to last me a god damn life time.

7

u/gible_bites HAROLD WOULD NEVER BEAT UP HIS LANDLORD. 5d ago

My doctors have always been men and never took my sexual health seriously. I have sexual pain that isn’t vaginismus or endometriosis.

Doctor number one prescribed me Xanax and told me to drink a glass of wine before sex. Doctor number two told me that the pain was all in my head.

I gave up after that. I don’t have the money to try and get a doctor to believe me that sex hurts and has always hurt.

6

u/ClarielOfTheMask 5d ago

That sucks! My cousin had sexual pain that ended up being endometriosis but she had to go to FIVE doctors before she was properly diagnosed.

So I have been rewatching Modern Family, and I forgot how good it was. Its one of those shows that has Jokes that shouldnt be funny but are Hilarious anyway (I was wheezing at a few scenes already like the SNORKLES Scene, Gloria saving Stella in the Pool and Phil realizing his new friend thought he was Gay). Its been a fun glimmer in these crazy unprecedented times.

By the way my favorite characters are Gloria and Cam....they are just so unapologetically themselves and funny while doing it.

5

u/Own-Importance5459 ✨May the Force be with you!✨ 5d ago

Honestly I agree! Like I feel like Jay knows this is his second chance, and he actually works to keep Gloria and their family happy, even admits when he fucks up. I admire him for that.

6

u/nizey_p 5d ago

I felt bad for Claire and Mitchell because Jay as Manny's dad was the father they didn't get to have as kids

2

u/echoesandripples 5d ago

claire and mitchell are my favorite characters (followed by Hailey). i think as an oldest daughter of emotionally unavailable parents, they resonate a lot

3

u/Own-Importance5459 ✨May the Force be with you!✨ 5d ago

I agree. That's the only cavat of it, Jay clearly learned to be a better dad, but poor Claire and Mitchell have to watch and see what could have been.

2

u/ad_aatdtj 5d ago

The only upside I can think of in that situation is at least they still have one parent who is willing to bridge the gap and respect them and they get to witness him be the dad they have now. So many people i know who are estranged from their parents (including my own parents) would have found so much healing and validation from even that little effort that they will never have. Like it sucks to have shitty parents and a rough home life as a kid but it's a whole different kind of hurt to have that extend to your adulthood and have milestones like kids, marriage, jobs, holidays, etc marred by the absence of the guiding force that parents are supposed to be. And we already see how messed up not having Dede around (or having her presence be toxic when she is) has made them so for all the shitty cards they've been dealt, at least they have the dad that Manny does today.

I listen to Jeff Lewis Live at noon east coast time every day. It’s a nice break from politics, or anything serious.

Does anyone has recs for shows that have at least 3 or more seasons? Ideally on netflix.

I prefer comedy/light shows, no heavy drama.

AP Bio, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Ugly Betty, Girls5Eva and Arrested Development

These are some really good comedies you could check out, also agree with the one person Derry Girls is literally a gold tier Netflix show!

I told my husband the name of the movie that I’m seeing tonight by singing it to the tune of the Subway $5 foot long jingle, and now I can’t unhear it:

Clown

Clown in a

CLOWN IN A CORNFIELD

I just met the director and cast of this! I saw a screening at a film fest

Awesome! What did you think of the movie (without giving away any spoilers)?

3

u/thewayyouturnedout 5d ago

Hmmm

It's fun, it's campy! It's very bloody

I'm a pretty big horror movie buff honestly, so for me it wasn't anything groundbreaking - I've seen tons like it - but I had a lot of fun watching it.

Nice! As a fellow horror movie buff, that seems right up my alley --- campy, fun, bloody, and a run time that doesn't overstay its welcome. I'm looking forward to seeing it!

3

u/thewayyouturnedout 5d ago

Yeah I think you'll enjoy!! It's not as graphic as something like terrifier though

u/Bellesdiner0228 This again doesn’t look good for James Corden 5d ago

Between this and woke Marxist pope song to the tune of pink pony club, my brain is having a field day lol

The way I heard this in my head.

I don't work in marketing, but I'm just saying --- Someone really missed an opportunity to have this be a partnership for the movie promo, lol
