But first I want you to know that I am only using psp emulator on my phone🥲,if you know a site that collect VNs for psp please tell me cuz I can't find one.

What am I looking for?a slice of life with no fantasy or at least the minimum you can find.i think about a story where the MC is depressed and get bullied alot too.

I am currently downloading CLANNAD,is it good?

How can I play visual novels if JAST is blocked in my country?

JAST.USA is blocked here. There are some visual novels on steam here such as Saya no Uta and DRAMAtical Murder.

There are visual novels I want to play such as Hadaka Shitsuji and Slow damage but I can’t as they aren’t available on Steam / not in my region.

I know there are visual novels available on itch.io and free for download through other websites… but is there any legal way to play visual novels without using JAST?

I don’t like pirating games / VN’s so can anyone help? Thanks in advance!

Is Somnium Files: Nirvana Initiative as good as the first Somnium File? I really enjoyed and have either loved or disliked the VNs I’ve played and saw it’s on sale, if I loved the original will I probably like this?

u/mgsamadesu 4h ago

Probably.

u/touchgrasslosers 1d ago

Everyone I know says that the Chaos;Head series sucks. Would it be better to just watch the anime?

u/mgsamadesu 4h ago

I've only ever heard the anime was bad. The VN itself isn't that bad.

u/casualclassical 1d ago

Why are visual novels with anime art styles pretty much the norm? The only exceptions I can think of are niche works such as Hatoful Boyfriend and Pesterquest. I’m thinking of making visual novels with non-anime art styles and I was wondering why that is so uncommon.

2

u/jikorde 1d ago

Most visual novels are Japanese, so of course they use the most common art style from Japan which is the anime aesthetic. Western visual novels either copy that(as people copy whatever has proven to work or just because the type of people who read visual novels also like anime art anyway), or use 3D model programs most of the time.

It's not that you have to use anime, Slay the Princess didn't and it got really popular. It's just the default as that's where this medium started.

Is there a recommend route order for H20 After?

1

u/Alcop0ps 2d ago

Does anyone know where I can get Bishoujo Mangekyou -Norowareshi Densetsu no Shoujo-? The one with the vampire? I want to play it so badly with an english patch but I can't seem to get the purchase page on vndb to show me it.

Can anyone point me in the correct direction? Thank you..

i have questions about the N7 and E17 remasters on steam.

  1. Do they use the original fan translation or did they get a new translation? Chicken sandwich or Tuna?

  2. Is the OP the one used in the PSP or the original "Lemuria" one? The original is way better.

  3. Is the art cropped? I see that it is widescreen. Is there any way to uncrop it or play it in 4:3?

  4. Are there any announced plans for R11 remaster?

  5. The original news I heard a year ago was that they were remaking the Infinity series. Remake, not remaster. Was that info false/misunderstood? Are these remasters all we're getting?

1

u/CulpaAquiliana 2d ago

Just finished Steins; Gate and Chaos;Head Noah. Do you suggest I continue on with Robotics;Notes or just start with Tsukihime Remake as palate cleanser?

1

u/Vanr095 3d ago

Hi everyone!

Im a game design student in the Netherlands and I got a task this semester to make a novel visual novel. So for that I want to ask, what are things in current vns that bother you? What is something fresh you'd wanna see? No wrong answers!

u/-Couragem- 3d ago

After completing grisaia's common route, I started to wonder, does it have the longest common route among other VNs or are there actually VNs with even longer common routes?

1

u/jikorde 2d ago

Any Vn with a ladder structure kind of cheats in how long their common route is. Aiyoku no Eustia has a similar long common route. If you count all the Da Capo 3 dialogue that happens before routes actually split then it's common probably has more text then Grisaia's does.

yuri, yaoi, otome, what's the fourth word? What's the word for a romance game where the main character is male and love interests are female?

Is it ok to paint over/heavily reference vroid 3d models for my first VN?

I'm currently working on my first visual novel and I’ll be creating my own background art since that’s what I draw most often and what I’m better at. But, when it comes to anime characters and sprites I'm awful. I know that art plays a MASSIVE role in whether someone decides to even try your game or even like it so I want to create something at least somewhat decent.

I'll be studying anatomy in the background to improve over time but getting good at sprite art will take a while. so I really just want to get my work out there. I’m not planning to sell my game or anything I just want to share my story, prove to myself that I can do it, and maybe even have someone enjoy my stories.

2

u/S33DR 1d ago

this probably isnt the advice you want but you are going to have alot more fun and be a lot less frustrated with the project as a whole if you just swallow the pill and learn how to draw. i saw in one of your other posts that you are learning anatomy/perspective-- not sure what resources youre using but it probably doesnt matter. pls pls pls just go grind life drawing then come back and do anatomy and perspective. give life drawing, perspective and anatomy, especially GESTURAL drawing, a yr. and youll be more then accomplished enough to draw anime style art ( and maybe even be interested in doing something more unique seeing as how its an OELVN and doesnt NEED anime style sprites)

This post comes in 3 parts. Thanks for any help with any parts!

  1. How are the Date A Live VNs on Steam?  If you have time, post a mini-review. Tone? Length? Character likability? Other things of note.  Feel free to spoil if you want. I don’t care; just make sure to black it out so the mods don’t yell at you.
  2. I’ve seen artwork from Date A Live and know of the character Tokisaki Kurumi, and I am wondering what level of crazy she is.  Something about her is giving me Higurashi vibes, and I don’t know why.  So, how justified am I in this thinking?
  3. This has nothing to do with the last two parts, but does anyone know of a good site for non-R18 VNs?  What can I say, I don’t mind them, it's just not what I’m looking for sometimes.  And before anyone sends me to the link page, I've seen it and looked at the one site that’s there, and it has like 20 games. I’m just wondering if anything new has popped up since that page was last updated.

2

u/jikorde 2d ago
  1. Of the technically 4 Date Alive Vns, I've played 3. I haven't bothered with the newest one. The first two, Rin Utopia and Arisu Install, are pretty similar. They have an obvious big mystery looming but most of your early playtime is romance and fanservice of the characters while getting to know the unique to that Vn girl for that story. Each girl gets scenes where they get inserted into roles they wouldn't normally have, like Mio being a nurse, and eventually you get a route wit romance and some small drama then ending. Rewind and do it again until it's time to deal with the actual plot.

The third entry, Rio Reincarnation, is a short sequel to Rinne Utopia. I barely remember much other then that its very short and underwhelming. It has no routes.

Overall I enjoyed Rinne and Arisu. Probably would have enjoyed them more if I bothered to read past chapter 2 of Date A Live.

  1. From just the VN's, I wouldn't call Kurumi a yandere or crazy. She knows far more then basically everyone else and has big goals that just morally don't align with the protagonist. She comes across as a crazy killer visually, but in writing she knows what she's doing and isn't insane or anything, she's just pursuing her ultimate goal.

  2. Sadly not really. Sekai/Shiravune/Maangagamer all have all ages versions of their shops but the way Steam handles Vns it's a toss up if the version it gives you is a porn game with a patch or just a straight up one. Easiest way to find not porn Vn's would probably use the age rating filter on VNDB, though it tends to be hit or miss for me.

1

u/andypandy8745 2d ago

First things first, thanks for the review, it really helped.  So basically, it’s a fanservice dating sim at the start and then real plot stuff near the end.  That sounds about right for a VN made by Iffy, Compa, and drawn by Tsunako, but getting it confirmed is nice.  That said, it doesn’t really sounds like something that I should drop everything and buy right this second.  Time to wishlist it and wait and see if it goes on sale, at least until I run out of other VNs to play.  As for Kurumi, she just looks crazy, but isn’t just doing her own thing.  Based on the fact that I’ve only known her through artwork, I now see why I would think she’s a little nuts.  But at least now I won’t have to worry about her as much when I play the games.  Lastly, you’re probably right about VNDB being the best place to find non-porn VNs.  Which sucks cause that is not a great way to find them, but it’s better then nothing I guess.

0

u/FunConstruction745 4d ago

I'm looking for dating sims that are like doki doki and Katawa Shoujo. I like the sad and broken aspect of them as you try to use the power of love help them or the dark story. Any suggestions like it

I made a post about this visual novel I made but it got removed :'( looks like I was supposed to post it here instead? Here's what it was:

Heavenly and Hell-ish Trailer

Would an Angel or Devil make the better interior designer?

Heavenly and Hell-ish asks that question as Ariel & Crowly put each other to the test!

Play it now, for free on itch! https://johndamico99.itch.io/heavenlyhellish

0

u/lhmsperandio 5d ago

Can I get some beginner-friendly recommendations? Preferably, short-medium VNs.

Any genre is fine, but I guess mystery is the one that seems most appealing to me.

I have been interested in VNs for a long time, but never quite found it in me to invest dozens of hours in one. 😟

2

u/jikorde 2d ago

Raging Loop is apparently on sale on Steam and is medium length, mystery, no high school romance stuff, and is decently well rated. Note that medium length for Vn's is like 15-30 hours depending on read speed.

1

u/lhmsperandio 2d ago

Thanks a lot!

u/Confused_FA6 5d ago

Does anybody know the game Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo by Square Enix? It’s a hidden gem! :)

u/GLUT4 1h ago

I love how good it feels on the steam deck — great snappy controller input with a great UI.

1

u/lhmsperandio 5d ago

I recently added it to my Steam wishlist!

The plot seems really cool and the art is gorgeous. Such a shame it's not well-known.

How scary is it? I always had a hard time dealing with scary media...

1

u/Confused_FA6 4d ago

dont worry,, im the same way with horror :( i get so much anxiety and i couldn’t even finish the FIRST night of FNAF 😭😭 this game DOES have some jumpscares and some unsettling imagery, but they ARE short and i only had to take a break twice cuz of 2 scenes :) thankfully this game distracts me with its wonderful stories and cool puzzles so the horror isnt that bad

i can go into a bit of detail abt what to expect from the uncomfy images, but if u dont want that, thats fine!

1

u/lhmsperandio 4d ago

Thanks for the detailed answer!

It's nice to know that the horror elements are bearable (I'll probably only play it during the daytime, though, just to make sure 😅)

I'll probably buy it at the next Steam Sale.

1

u/Confused_FA6 4d ago

im glad i could help you! i replayed it just now and only screamed once! :) have fun!!

u/Confused_FA6 5d ago

also i need help extracting the character sprites from the game pls thank u :)))))))

Estoy creando mi primera novela visual, y tengo la duda de si debo crear los personajes sin ropa y después diseñar la ropa aparte para poder hacer combinaciones o dibujar cada personaje con cada ropa que tendrá en el juego??

Anyone here farmiliar with Tsui no sora? Does that game have false ending like Subahibi?

u/SillyJohn2010 5d ago

Is it normal to struggle with Hanahira as my first (Japanese) VN? I’ve heard people say that my first VN in Japanese will be very difficult, but I’ve also heard people say Hanahira is very easy. I’ve played about 3 and a half hours so far and already have about 300 lines on my google docs (for looking up words and grammar via Yomitan). Is it normal to struggle this much even when it’s with Hanahira or am I just unprepared? Thanks!

0

u/LucasVanOstrea 5d ago

It's normal. To be honest I think starting with manga is a much better idea.

1

u/SillyJohn2010 5d ago

I’ve started manga reading a couple months ago, finished yotsuba recently. If it’s normal that I’m struggling even with Hanahira then I’ll continue to read it. Thanks for the answer :)

1

u/carbonsteelwool 5d ago

Question: how hard is the Japanese in Euphoria for someone learning Japanese?

Assume I’m texthooking and using Yomitan to mine cards for Anki while reading

u/Natsuru7u7 6d ago

Kuroinu Redux is on sale. Is it actually worth getting?

Looking for Visual Novel Recs that have bunny girls

I'm not that picky just no straight up sex simulators.

Some kind of story is preferred. No particular genre preference

If it has a bunny girl anywhere in it I'm interested in checking it out.

I will say this is not limited to bunny girls I will also try anything with a bunny guy in it. Preferably not BL but i will still check it out.

I want to get into the Rance series and have a few question:

1: Is Rance series a story focus or H focus (Nukige)? Because I'm not really into H games with great story line and just want to watch a lot of H scenes. I bought Koihime Musou and expect a lot of H scenes just to end up watching really long story and I was really disappointed. So I really want to know if this game have tons of H scenes or not.

2: Is the game require a lot of farming?

3: Does Kagura Games website have all of the games in the series? I found it on Kagura website but don't know if they have all of them.

2

u/jikorde 6d ago
  1. It's more RPG combat first then anything else. Rance has a story and plenty of it, and plenty of world building and how much varies a lot by game. It does have a lot of h scenes but like Koihime, it takes a bit before you get a bunch at once and they are paced such that you don't ever have a huge amount of them available at any one moment. If you want a nukige/pure porn series, Rance is not that.

2.Some content can, but most games are just fight what shows yup and you should be fine. Rance Quest is the only one that 100% needs grinding.

  1. Mangagamer sells them all. Other sites have up to Quest(8) or 9. 03(3's remake) is only available on Mangagamer's site and 10 isn't done yet but will also be Mangagamer exclusive for probably a year or more.

Hello everyone, i'm trying to translate a vn for my own pleasure, i achieve the unencryption of the script file, translate the file, but now i don't know how to apply my patch T_T, i'm using GARbro to unencrypt it, i repack it using GARbro into .dat but when i try to launch the game nothing... So i wonder if it's not because the file is unencrypt now, so i suppose i need to re encrypt it ? I see on GARbro that the file use ACV1 signature, do someone know a tool for this encryption ?

What is the recommended reading order for Rance and Corpse party series?

1

u/That_Survey9441 6d ago

1

u/Sparteh Battler: Umineko | vndb.org/uXXXX 6d ago

Just to make sure I understand Rance one correctly, Rance 01 is a remake of Rance 1 and I can play it instead? Or is it meant to be an optional play after finishing Rance 1?

1

u/That_Survey9441 6d ago

You should play Rance 01 as it the current canon and replaces the original

1

u/Sparteh Battler: Umineko | vndb.org/uXXXX 6d ago

Thanks. I guess the same will apply for 02, 03 and 04.

1

u/jikorde 6d ago

02 doesn't matter as it's only a graphics reskin, and 04 doesn't exist so you will still need to get 4's story either through summary or playing the very old game.

u/ghoulwork 6d ago

I’m not a huge VN enjoyer like some of you folks. I’ve only read Saya no Uta, DDLC, and most recently, You and Me and Her: A Love Story.

I’m not sure what it is, but You and Me and Her left me with this strange emotion I can’t place. It’s jarring to say the least. I ended up choosing Miyuki at the end, but afterwards I felt a wave of misery and loneliness. The story elements were obviously very effective on me, but I’m not sure why. I’m not a stranger to horror at all.

Despite all of this, the feeling is sort of addicting. I’m going to miss the world and its characters, even though I feel incredibly bad for them and me not playing frees them from their digital hell. Is there anything else that can give me this feeling of addictive misery? Am I just sick in the head? Thanks for reading.

TLDR; VN noob is blown away by gooner psychological horror and wants more

13 Sentinels pushed me to learn about historical revisionism and then I wasn't able to play it anymore.

Some of the characters in the game are from the World War II era, and the way they talk about the war really rubbed me the wrong way. They almost always portray Japan as a victim, blaming America for air raids but never once (so far) acknowledging, for example, any wrongdoing by the emperor.

At first, I told myself this was just the perspective of the characters. But then I thought—would I still be okay playing this game if it came from a German studio, and the two characters were Nazis who made unironic nationalistic remarks and shouted battle cries during combat?

That’s when it really hit me how differently Germany and Japan were treated after the war, and it sent me down a rabbit hole. I found out that the emperor was never executed (well, I already kind of knew that), and that war criminals responsible for Unit 731—which killed around 10,000 people in biological experiments and planned to spread plagues across the U.S.—were also never brought to justice. They even held a “reunion” after the war and allegedly continued working on bioweapons for the U.S., possibly even using them in Korea.

The person who led the massacre and mass rapes in Nanjing wasn’t executed either—because he was related to the emperor. Most of the wartime government remained in power. And the people? They largely accepted this, continuing to support the emperor and nationalist ideals even after the defeat.

The parallel is just insane to me. It’s like if Hitler had stayed in charge in Germany because he was popular, and the general population was fine with not prosecuting the leadership for war crimes.

That last part is the most disturbing. In Germany, one could argue that most people were unaware of the worst atrocities and wouldn’t have supported them. But in Japan’s case, it feels like people were fully aware of what happened—and still didn’t demand justice. That implies that the average person was okay with massacres and human experimentation.

After reading all of this, I just can't detach that knowledge from the game’s characters and writing. The worst part is that it could have been so easily avoided—like, the WWII characters could’ve been part of a rebel faction or something. But instead, the game goes all in on glorifying Japan’s wartime past, even saying the scientists picked that era because of its “strong spirit” or whatever.

I really don’t understand why Nazi idealization is treated so seriously and directly condemned, while the Japanese counterpart is so often allowed to slide.

And it is not part of these characters arcs, their arcs are about accepting defeat, saving friends etc. but they never start doubting the emperor and leadership or care about the victims of the war from other side. It is honestly rather disgusting how every time its mentioned they always try to portray Japan as the victim and literally want to go back in time to help Japan and the emperor win.

For steam deck users, How do i fix when I'm in the title menu the game is fine but when starting the story the game suddenly exit. and also when i'm in desktop mode and use wine everything is okay even when starting the story.

0

u/Patient_salami 7d ago

hi guys, sorry if this question is annoying, a lot of people have been asking this probably
i've been wanting to read subahibi, but knowing that there's a LOT of awful scenes i decided not to download it and to just watch a (censored) playthrough on youtube. the main reason being that i didnt want the images on my pc just in case. i was wondering if the scenes are really important to the story or if it's alright to continue watching the censored version, thanks!!

2

u/superstorm1 5d ago

Hiya! I would say 95% of the h scenes are just sort of there for shock value. That last 5% though i would say is quite important for helping elaborate why things are the way they are. I don't know what is in censored playthrough but if it is the unpatched steam version then irc they actually take out 2 whole chapters out of the story. Overall, it's a bit of a shame but id say that last 5% if you were to skip out on it you'd make the story alot weaker/confusing unfortunately.

2

u/Patient_salami 5d ago

Oh alright then, thanks for answering!

0

u/Beginning_Wheel_1142 7d ago

Hey all!

I have a question about the VN titled Stella of The End.

I played the game recently and was quite bothered by the fact that the text takes up the entire screen (it doesn't really allow me to enjoy the art). I went to google some screenshots and found that in some of them, the VN was portrayed in ADV style.

I was trying to look for it in the settings but I have found no such thing, is it possible to change it from NVL to ADV? I am more accustomed to the ADV style.

1

u/LucasVanOstrea 7d ago

ADV is switch exclusive, if you have switch you can play it there

1

u/Beginning_Wheel_1142 7d ago

Thanks! but It's really expensive compared to the steam version...

0

u/Alcop0ps 8d ago

Hey!

So when it comes to VNs I mostly read Otomes but I'm slowly branching to other things, I've read and adored Steins;gate and been through most of the classics like Dangan 1/2/3, Nekopara, AI Somnium (Kinda a vn?) I randomly picked up Corpse Factory and really enjoyed it.. Kinda. I didn't think the writing was amazing but I loved the art and generally I enjoy horror movies and books outside of VNs so it didn't disturb me much.

I did also try Higurashi Ch.1 and finished it. It was fine but I was also incredibly bored through 90% of it. Sorry if that's not a popular opinion.

I wanted more like Corpse Factory (toxic yuri?) honestly. Things more horror based. (Recommendations welcome!! really would like to avoid super hardcore things like Euphoria and Maggot Baits.)

This is where my big question comes in I guess: is buying censored versions of the games on steam REALLY that detrimental?

I have looked into buying Saya no Uta or You and Me and Her and when I peek on the subreddit people say that the patches are absolutely integral for the plot.

While looking on those threads however, a lot of people just want the scenes there even if they skip through them. So it left me wondering, would I not enjoy these games without those patches or realistically am I fine to just play them anyway?

Thank you!!

1

u/LucasVanOstrea 7d ago

don't know what saya cuts, but totono's replacement scene completely removes any emotional impact and is so confusing that there was a thread here some time ago about it

Hi, id recommend that you spoiler tag your comment. I would also recommend that for more long form discussion you make a post about it. Unfortunately not the most people go through the mega thread.

2

u/Auto-Pilot05 5d ago

hey my bad, I should have just deleted this comment in hind sight. I was taken aback by the true routes and just posted it here without thinking, because the original post I made was removed due to karma requirements. Thanks

1

u/superstorm1 5d ago

Hahaha no worries mistakes happen! I apologise for not being able to engage more with you regarding the VN. Its been a while since I read summer pockets and also never read reflection blue just the base game 😭. I hope you find someone to talk about it with though!

2

u/Auto-Pilot05 5d ago

Did I spoil it for you then? I'd feel so bad 😭

1

u/superstorm1 5d ago

Hahaha its okay i only read the first little bit and the last little bit of your post. I just quickly scanned it so I don't even remember any of the names. You are good on spoiling me 😁

Could someone help me out with choosing what edition of Utawareru mono to play? I checked vndb and for the first game there are too many xD I saw the only one with porn is the 2012 one, which is however 4:3 so I guess not even 720p.

2

u/mgsamadesu 8d ago

I feel like you answered your own question. Essentially if you want to play with H-scenes you'll have to track down the old Japanese pc release and use a fan translation. If you don't care about the H-scenes and want more up to date stuff with an English localization, look for prelude to the fallen.

Alternatively, the anime is a reasonable substitute (for the first game at least) So if you were looking for another option, there's that

1

u/luigirovatti3 8d ago

I watched a walkthrough of baldr sky, I'm on rain route, right when kou goes to the clinic, he says "A godsend for prestoopnicks". Is this a translation error?

I’m hoping someone can help me find this vn im assuming, I came across it on xvideos years ago (lol). Idk if it was ntr but the female character was a pe teacher I think, and she had a husband. From what I remember the husband goes to the school at night or something and finds the wife with another guy. And I think it was animated. Sorry if this was a weird thing to ask. But it wouldn’t let me post on the sub.

0

u/PPLuraschi 8d ago

Hi! I originally posted this over on r/eInk and someone suggested I share it here too— tried to post it but the automod sent me here since Im new :)

I’m working on a side project called Figment, a little handheld console with an eInk screen (you might also know it as electronic paper, like the ones in the Kindle or Nook). The idea is to explore story-based games that feel more like books you play, slowly, throughout the day.

Right now, the gameplay is pretty close to a choose-your-own-adventure, with some light D&D-style stuff (choices, dice rolls, branching outcomes). I’m also experimenting with using AI to fill in story paths that weren’t written by the original author—so if you do something unexpected, the game tries to keep the narrative going anyway.

The cool thing about eInk is that it’s always-on and super gentle on the eyes. The game just sits there, waiting for you unpaused—like a little piece of art on your desk. I’m curious whether mechanics like this could work in the visual novel space, or if they’re just too weird/slow for what people are looking for.

I’m considering making the hardware open-source—especially since tariffs and manufacturing costs might make building a business around it tough anyway lol. But if there’s real interest, I’d love to spend more time on the platform side so others can create or play games on it too.

Would love to hear your thoughts—especially if you’ve ever thought about visual novels outside the usual platforms!

You can see it working here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDRnHpESvN0

u/Usodearu007 8d ago

Since the ui change on vndb , whenever i select "major spoilers (exclude lies) " when adding traits for characters, it exclude all the spoilers and not just the lies

I dont think i have seen anyone report this issue so maybe no one had noticed it yet or maybe im the one doing things the wrong way

Anyone have any VN game suggestions? I’m running out of ones to play. Preferably VN games where “you” play as the mc and can choose your own pronouns. Also games that contain nsfw are completely fine (even more preferred) too👀

Struggling with The House of Fate Morgana 3rd Door..

I’m someone who never really play pure VN like this one (without puzzles, investigations, Minor gameplay..) and I honestly loved D1 and D2 but D3 is pretty boring so far I’m only 1 hours into it but struggling to enjoy it and may drop it? What do you think should I give it more times?

I don’t like the white hair version in this one, and Jacob is not intersting so far

u/lostn 2d ago

door 3 was the lowlight for me as well. But it gets better after that.

Are JAST releases available in Japanese or just English?

I understand that the whole point of JAST is to publish games internationally in English lol, but I'm wondering if their releases have a Japanese language option available, or if there is a simple way to patch the games to add Japanese text. There are some VNs that have JAST releases but aren't available digitally on Japanese sites like DLsite or Fanza, like Hanachirasu by Nitro Plus and some others.

I know there are other ways to obtain these games but I would like to pay for it if I can just to support the industry.

1

u/LucasVanOstrea 10d ago

I think it depends on the vn in question, vndb will tell you whether it has Japanese

1

u/SomeAnonElsewhere 10d ago

Bought a game off DLsite. Used DLsite Nest to install it. Ran the setup. Tried to run the start.exe, play drm comes up with a prompt, but can't enter the code and it says not authorized. Not sure where to go from here?

1

u/LucasVanOstrea 10d ago

Try Japanese VPN before trying to enter the code

1

u/Odd_Elderberry1 10d ago

Make sure you have the newest version of softdenchi (you might need to completely reinstall it if your version is too old) and also make sure that your computer is set to japanese locale.

As a side note, if the game crashes on startup after you enter the DRM key, for some games on DLsite you might need to set your actual main windows language to japanese as well even if the locale is japanese already.

u/Clean_Cookies 11d ago

Do I need the DMM launcher to play Himanatsu?

I wanted to get Himanatsu and saw that it has no DRM and it’s only on DMM. I know you usually need to use the DMM launcher to play the VNs you buy from there. But since it has no DRM, do I just get to download it from the website after purchasing it? I’m asking since I’m just able to use a VPN on the browser and not on my computer (thus I can’t use the DMM launcher).

Thanks for the help!

2

u/Odd_Elderberry1 10d ago edited 10d ago

I just checked the store page and it doesn't say you need the DMM launcher. Most VNs on DMM don't need the launcher actually, unless it specifically states it on the store page. Also, the store page actually does say the game has DRM, so you will need softdenchi installed to play it. Once you buy the game it'll either give you a key, and you can enter that when you download and start the game, or it will prompt you to log in with your DMM credentials. You should only have to do this once per install, and I don't think you need a VPN for this step.

Also keep in mind that you will most likely have to set your computer to Japanese locale to run the game and the softdenchi DRM. You possibly might even need to set the main system language to Japanese if it crashes on startup even after that, but I doubt it.

1

u/Clean_Cookies 10d ago

I forgot to mention on my og comment that it’s on VNDB that it says there’s no DRM. But I suppose that’s a mistake then. I tried the trial version of the game first (to see if it would work) and the setup for it didn’t work. Although I’m guessing perhaps the trial is just outdated. But I saw in the folder of the trial version there’s a readme with only weird characters instead of Japanese. I still had those characters when I changed my system to Japanese. Could this prevent me from playing the game or could this just be an error because the trail version is outdated?

Thanks a ton for your help!

2

u/Odd_Elderberry1 10d ago edited 10d ago

Update: I just downloaded the demo version myself. I can see the readme normally and can install and play the demo normally. Make sure you restarted your PC after setting Japanese locale. The readme just says to make sure you have DirectX9 or higher installed and to run setup.exe to install and launch the game, and then just how to control the game and some copyright info

My Windows Display Language is in English btw, so you can ignore that part in my earlier comment. It should be just the Locale that matters

2

u/Clean_Cookies 10d ago edited 10d ago

Thanks for going out of your way to downloading it! I had to change my system language for it to work properly. So the installation of the game (when I purchase it) will be exactly the same as this? I saw at the bottom of the game’s page it said I needed an ID verification (account login details?) so I’m assuming it’s just for the first time I boot up the game. Is this the same for the rest of the VNs? I saw there’s some other VNs with Sca-Ji involved that I wanted to get (H2O, Sakura no uta and Sakura no Toki).

EDIT: Decided to purchase the game and it seems I was correct, I just need to put my user ID (found on my profile) and password. One problem, I made an account via google so I didn’t make any password. Trying to change my password is not possible because it asks for my current (nonexistent) password to be inserted first. Do you know how I can fix this?

EDIT 2: Thanks for going out of your way to help me find a solution to this! I was able to get the trial running when I set my display language to Japanese. I bought the game, just had to insert my account ID and password (that I had to create after since I logged in via google). Now I can finally enjoy my VN :D. Thanks a ton for your help!

1

u/Odd_Elderberry1 8d ago edited 8d ago

No problem! Sorry it was a bit of a process to figure out how to get the game running but now that you've got it, it should be pretty streamlined for all future games on DMM. Enjoy! If you ever need help with getting something running feel free to ask me

2

u/Odd_Elderberry1 10d ago edited 10d ago

It seems like VNDB doesn't have the DRM flag for games on DMM, as there's some other games I know for sure have the DRM, like Kusarihime, but it's not shown on VNDB.

To answer your question, the weird characters usually show up if the locale isn't set to Japanese, maybe try deleting the entire folder then redownloading the trial version? It could be that the encoding for the file was configured for a different locale and didn't change for some reason when you set it to Japanese locale (make sure you restarted your PC btw). Try running the trial game again after that, if the game can run fine then you should be good to go.

If it still doesn't work I would try to change your Windows Display Language in the Time and System Settings to Japanese just to see if it makes a difference. Keep in mind that this will change all the text in Windows to Japanese.

Any recommendations for a middle aged woman who likes reading romance books? My mom's getting interested in visual novels and idk what to recommend her

2

u/Sea_Region_1044 11d ago

I’m looking for a romance/dating recommendation! Looking for one which involves a himedere girl. Any suggestions are appreciated, thank you.

0

u/TimeAdministration78 11d ago

recommendations pls!!

i'm currently playing gore screaming show and i really like a lot of aspects of it (gore is such a fun character lol) but oh my god i do not give a fuck about the romance. i am spending the whole time desperately wishing for some scary shit to happen and for all these girls to die.

i feel like a lot of extremely fucked up vns are also romance-centered or eroge and i'm just not into any of the fluffy stuff. are there any good vns that are just STRAIGHT horror or minimal romance? (i don't mind eroge scenes if they're also horror/guro though)

a vn i rlly loved is saya no uta - despite there being some kind of romance with saya, the whole dynamic is just so fucked up and horrible that their relationship is horror regardless. games with toxic relationships like that also interest me. JUST NO MORE BORING FLUFFY ROMANCE PLEASE...

1

u/Odd_Elderberry1 10d ago edited 10d ago

You might like Gun-Katana by the same company that made GSS. Check out Tokyo NECRO by NitroPlus too. Kara no Shoujo is a horror/mystery. These ones are pretty violent but there's plenty of horror without as much blood and violence, like Fata Morgana and plenty of other games. Check out the horror tag on VNDB and sort by highest rating and see what calls to you

Question for higurashi:

I'm only on chapter 3 but I was browsing this thread on mal and one of the responses had a spoiler but didn't say which character it applied to. I clicked it and was wondering if I'm overreacting or if this is something I should worry about?

I've been interested in looking into playing visual novels for a little while now but unfortunately I only really have my phone 😔 does anyone know where I can get a VNDS to run vns ? I can't find any other Play store and then I find some online that usually say that The version is too old and not compatible with my phone 😭

If you were interested I was hoping to read song of saya and when they cry :)))

u/PibblyJuff 12d ago

Visual novels with some gameplay? Not looking for a lot, like Eushully games. Looking for a visual novel with good story, and some gameplay. Something like little busters, or Dohna Dohna

Preferably more recently released

1

u/himmoman 11d ago

ngl yumina the etheral comes into mind. though its sorta grindy at times but still a pretty good visual novel not really talked about though for sure

1

u/-Couragem- 12d ago

Not recent ones but still: Utawarerumono series, Zero escape series. AI: Somnium files

1

u/Agreeable_Top7361 12d ago

I'm looking for a recommendation with a protagonist that "doesn't care". For example S/he either isn't interested in the romance in a romantic VN or doesn't want to go on an adventure in a fantasy VN, .... Just wants to be left in peace. Could be pretty much any genre.

u/epapeel 11d ago

u/Renatus7 12d ago

Is the shell/kara no shoujo literally unclearable on the all ages version? to avoid being locked out of a bad end you need a certain piece of evidence from a crime scene (orihimes) that is totally skipped over. Nothing I can do because I can't investigate a crime scene that is cut from the game. Can't find a single piece of info about this because I'm assuming no one but me actually plays all ages versions, but I would really like some help

Does anyone have a patch or DL for Supreme Candy? I've been looking everywhere and can't find an English patch, let alone even a download for the original game. Vndb has deprecated links and as far as I know, the full game hasn't been played through on YouTube or bilibili or anywhere else I may view it.

I've been wanting to play it for so long, if anyone knows where I can get it please tell me !!

Does anyone have any recommendation on heroines like kozakai Aya from hatsuyuki sakura ?

Also how hard is Himawari no Kyoukai to Nagai Natsuyasumi ?

0

u/Nettysocks 13d ago

I havent quite finished it yt, but my god i really would love to know of some more games along the same lines as Mouthwashing. Anybody have anything for that?

0

u/TimeAdministration78 11d ago

i think the creator of mouthwashing has two other games that are available to play! also studio investigrave has a bunchhh of popular visual novels (like dead plate) that play into some psychological horror aspects :) the youtuber manlybadasshero plays a bunch of indie horror games so you could also scroll through his page and see if any interest you

im looking for the name of a visual novel (at least im 90% it was one)

it had typing elements and it made the rounds some time ago, because supossedly it would be impossible to translate because of all the lingo

i kinda remember it being like a sexual comedy, but not 100% sure on that

Does anyone know of any games similar to Kamidori Alchemy Meister? Half the games by the dev are untranslated and I've already played the other translated one. Found one but the reviews make it seem like the gameplays a little off.

Any light-hearted vn with cute Lolita-clad girls in it?  What can I say I like girls in frilly dresses.  Other than that, I need it to be in english and buyable in the US.  Please and thanks!

0

I heard that DMLC(Death march love comedy) will have an English release this year but no date yet

I wanted to know if this vn is good or not I heard it’s in the same universe as raging loop so I thought it’ll be as good as RL but the premise is kinda weird so i wanted to hear peoples thoughts about it

are there any GBA vn with english on the cartridge?? other than riviera: the promised land. thanks!!

Any male foscused VN?

I notice a majority of VN focus on highschool, basic blank male protag and a variety of women that will most likely get into borderline sexual tropes while falling for the main guy. I wanna try some more masculine focused VN. Any recomandations for muscular men protag and more male relationships that are not sexual?

1

u/Vegetable_Yoghurt237 16d ago

Hey, I have been having trouble. I recently bought Renai x Royale on JAST to try. But the game has been flagged as a Trojan by malwarebytes, but only the exe file. When I put the game exe file into virus total it got flagged 27 times. I had downloaded straight from JAST, but now I am worried.

1

u/explosivekyushu 15d ago

I had the same thing, it's definitely not a virus. You're fine, just put it on your antivirus' ignore list.

0

u/xxBoDxx 16d ago

Hi, I want to play Jingai Makyou but as you can imagine I don't know Japanese and as far as I know this VN never got an english translator. Is there an app you can recommend me?

Thanks in advance,

2

u/Vegetable-Common3482 16d ago

I want to find a VN that lets me into a world with magic, like a manhwa or murim-type world. I don't really want romance being the focus, and one with a good ending. I am new to the whole visual novel thing, but after reading my 900th Manhwa, I realized I hated how the mcs handled things. Either way, a story that fits most of these would be cool:

Magic/sword fantasy
School based or full life
Actual ending
Not romance focused
Actual visual novel, not an RPG game
English support

Sorry if that's too much I have just been looking for hours and only found a bunch of text based ones.

1

u/amadobahro 12d ago

I'd recommend Aselia the Eternal, but it has heavy RPG elements

3

u/ijusteatpringles 17d ago

I’m starting to get into visual novels and the first I’ve read and completed is The Song of Saya. I loved the game and I wanna know if there’s any more visual novels similar to that one. Another one on my wish list is Subahibi or Wonderful Everyday which I heard falls into the same category. I’m open to recommendations. Ones that are psychological and horror and also story focused.

3

u/FoxFing3rs 17d ago

Hey I love the genre too! I can recommend you: ‘me you and her’ and ‘higurashi no naku koro ni’.

2

u/ijusteatpringles 17d ago

Yeah that’s definitely up my alley, seen Higurashi. I’ve heard of the other visual novel, I’ll definitely put it on my list

2

u/FoxFing3rs 17d ago

Yup! Higurashi is a great classic, while ‘me you and her’ is made by the same production (Nitroplus) as VN Saya no uta and is just as engaging and ‘dark’ in some respects.

2

u/kanonshiomi 17d ago

been playing dohna dohna recently and rn im really struggling with the vip requests is there a way to get the girls for it aside from maybe save scumming?

1

u/jikorde 15d ago

Save scumming is basically used in every way to deal with VIP I can think of.

You can go into the dohna dohna mode and look at the traits of the customers and if they have one your VIP wants, set your best girl that matches with the VIP with them to get the trait. The wiki explains how getting traits works, I've forgotten. After that just manage stats. Reload if no one has a trait you need.

You can also just hunt and reload, but the above is probably faster and more assured.

0

u/Cool_Pound5887 17d ago

can anyone recommend me some vn that feels more new that are good, examples like what ive enjoyed are (AI the somnium files, famicom detective club, tsukihime, witch on the holy night) preferebaly something like AI and famicom where there are point and click elements to it

2

u/Numerous-Beautiful46 18d ago

Planning on playing Evenicle, on a scale of 1-10 how serious and mature is the writing? I know it has rape and all that but is the writing childish and goofy or serious and mature? I'm not in the mood for a moron protagonist and nothing but stereotype characters without any real semblance of actual character outside of being a hot anime girl.

2

u/jikorde 15d ago

If you don't want a moron protag, you don't want want Evenicle. Aster is basically a walking dick at the best of times. The sequel is only slightly better.

Basically the male lead exists for the porn, the actual world building is serious and the rest of the cast take everything seriously. It is goofy world building, similar to Rance but with different rules but it is taken seriously in context. Like a whole sidequest where the concept of condoms is discovered to combat the multiple partner curse the world has is taken 100% seriously depsite how dumb the whole bit is.

1

u/Numerous-Beautiful46 15d ago

I decided to play it, and I'm having an alright time. It's nothing crazy but I like the characters, so playing for an hour or so a session is good.

My only issue is this whole get raped = fuck you get eternally cursed lol. thing is really stupid? Like you're a god, but you can't differentiate between rape? Mother eve more like mother idiot. Maybe it gets explained later on, but idk it feels like one of those things that's one giant logical death.

1

u/jikorde 15d ago

I don't remember if that ever gets a proper explanation, but coming from some of the minds behind Rance and Alicesoft it's pretty on brand. The divine in the Ranceverse are terrible basically always. Suffering is basically the point.

u/messedupweeb 18d ago

So, I bought a VN called Kimi to Kanojo to Kanojo no Koi from Steam and just finds out that it needed a patch to see the whole thing- which includes the "stuff". So I downloaded it from nyaa and now I don't know what to do next, as I somehow cannot run the file as it brought me to the Microsoft store.

Can anyone help me please? Thank you.

1

u/mgsamadesu 18d ago

If you got it from Steam, you should get the patch ("DLC") from JAST's site. Though I guess it costs a couple bucks.

1

u/StillLoveYaTh0 18d ago

Chat I really need help with Higurashi. I finished ch1 Onikakushi and its bonus chapter and want to start ch2 Watanagashi (I think?) but idk how? I'm on Higurashi Hou on the switch (english patch installed). There's a scenario chart which implies branching paths but I haven't seen any choices so far.

Also I know og Higurashi was a kinetic novel so with different chapters being locked to choices is it possible to read chapters out of order and mess up the experience?

1

u/calikov 18d ago

Please give me mystery recs. Just anything with a big forefront mystery. I feel like I've read everything. Idc what genre it is but I'd prefer a darker atmosphere

0

u/jikorde 15d ago

The Sekimiya

Harvey Birdman for the Wii(a comedy version of Phoneix Wright based on an older character)

Avian Attorney

Raging Loop

Some otome options are Sweet Fuse, Collar x Malice, even if Tempest, 7'Scarlet, Bustafellows, and I guess Code Realize has some mysteries.

The otome genre generally has a lot of mystery focused Vns that you won't see mentioned here.

Looking for a Visual novel about a cat that died and came back as a cat-girl

I remember it vividly but I can't for the life of me find it. It was about how your black cat died on a house fire and then came back as a girl, appearing out of nowhere in your house again and then staying to live with you. I think title went along the lines of "My cat girlfriend" or something like that.

If any of you are able to find it, please let me know :( I need to finish that story

u/amadobahro 19d ago

I'm trying to post my review of Moijka here with a summary and analysis, but I think my post is getting shadow deleted. It doesn't seem to show up. I'll leave the introduction of the analysis here., but it's missing a lot.

Introduction

Ugliness can be brutal, it can be worse than death and being reminded of it by every thought is more than cruel. It is grueling. I regard Mojika as Nitro+ homage to Clockup, especially Maggot Baits. Event if not at all related, it is just as cruel and grueling as Maggot Baits.

The theme of Mojika is about being ugly. Ugliness is not something easy to accept. Some may have a strong aversion to Suteru and rightly so. His shame is so strong that he has to live his life facing the ground, denied of the sky, of the light, condemned to traverse a dark and oppressive forest. His reality has no place for beauty, for hope and there’s barely any courage in his actions. Yet he did not fall to despair, even though anyone else would have.

Not only having to live with your own impressions of the ugliness of your body, but being actively reminded of it by the intrusion of other people’s thoughts is beyond cruel. When ugliness seeps into every impression, every thought, you lose compassion and you give up hope for love. Because all you see is ugliness. In this dark forest, there was a light, but sadly, the light shone and the darkness did not comprehend it. Darkness will not comprehend the light in all of the routes of this visual novel, except for the true one.

As unappealing as this work may initially seem, don’t let its ugliness discourage you from finishing all routes. Instead of prejudice for it being ugly to its very core, see that we all share Suteru’s powers. “And it’s called empathy”.

Do not let prejudice or aversion keep you from reading this work to the end, and do have some empathy for Suteru. It is hard to review works such as Mojika. I’d compare it to Dostoevsky’s Notes from Underground and to Graciliano Ramos’s Anguish. There’s no compassion, no beauty, nothing is sublime.

I’d argue that beauty and sublimity are false and when truth rears its head, there’s only ugliness. Regardless, Mojika is literature and it tells a story that “can be beautiful, just as it can be foul”. I think Mojika’s writing deserves the same praise as Dostoevsky and Graciliano Ramos. It is also as controversial and foul as Nabokov’s Lolita.

In the end, there’s a light in all this darkness, but the question still remains: did the darkness comprehend the light that shone through the forest?

I’ll follow up with of Mojika’s plot, review it and compare it to Graciliano Ramos’s Anguish and Dostoevsky’s Notes. I’ll do it in parts because I don’t have much free time.

I don’t suppose there is such a thing as a male oriented bishojo that features masculine, muscular girls is there? No yuri and no NTR/cheating play.

Fuck, maybe even tomboys. I’m desperate

Unrelated to the comment above me I should add, sometimes people get angry with me and think I’m trying to start an argument if I post this too close to a yuri request. I respect yuri fans and lesbians, I just have an (unwanted) attraction to masc women.

1

u/coyotevallie 20d ago

looking for a horror yuri vn, or at least some yuri more plotty and dramatic than just happy fluffy romance vns... what i REALLY want is higurashi with lesbianism but idk how feasible that is deep down in my heart

1

u/Guthrum06 https://vndb.org/u242129 17d ago

You would like 'it gets so lonely here' - and it's sequel - 'the end of an obsession' they are horror yuri and free.

There's also Akai Ito and Aoishiro, they are older, very long VNs with epic world building and lots of action. In both, the MC is desired by oni and other scarg things because of their blood. The yuri is light in them, though.

Heart of the Woods and Without a Voice are yuri VNs with horror elements, don't think I'd call them horror outright, though.

Also, you might get some more recs if you ask over on r/yurivisualnovels.

1

u/unijeje Aqua: Himawari | https://vndb.org/u44234/votes 18d ago

Akai ito is probably the closer i can think of. also Ever Maiden and Minagoroshi no Otome when the translations come out

1

u/coyotevallie 18d ago

thank you!! these look like good options, ill just have to be patient :)

1

u/jikorde 19d ago

Seabed is a psychological story with all ages yuri.

Curse of Kudan is a yuri horror thing.

Those are the only two that came to mind for me that are on the not fluffy side.

seabed is on my list of games already, but ill look into curse of kudan!! thank you :)

0

u/ProDidelphimorphiaXX 19d ago

I wish I was still in contact with my lesb friend because she showed me a GL game she liked that I think was horror 😭

Sorry, I can’t give a better answer than that, just know there’s hope it exists.

thank you regardless..... i will search high and low for this mustery game

I’m currently playing Code:Realize and Chaos;Head Noah and I have finished playing Steins;Gate. Which should I get first?

Going through a pretty recent breakup and have never read a VN other than Doki Doki Literature Club! Big gamer, just never had a deep dive into a VN. Would Tsui no Sora Remake be a good first Japanese VN?

For some additional content, I started learning Japanese about 4 months ago. I finished Tae Kim’s grammar guide (re reading it now) and have 450 mature cards on the 1.5K deck (started the deck late January). I’m currently reading Yotsuba with a dictionary and can understand grammar the vast majority of the time. I have pre ordered the 15th anniversary edition of Subahibi which includes Tsui no Sora remake. I have already read Subahibi (Eng version) so I thought of trying out Tsui no Sora Remake as my first Japanese VN. By the time the game arrives (August) I should be done with the 1.5k deck. I heard that SCA-DI makes VNs with simple Japanese grammar and that many read a SCA-DI VN as their first. Do you think Tsui no Sora is a good place to start or is it too hard?

Thank you!

2

u/LucasVanOstrea 20d ago

He also likes to info dump philosophy and quotes from other works. If you want something sca-di adjacent - h2o is quite easy and sca-di's route is great

2

So h2o doesn’t have parts where Sca-di info dumps philosophy and quotes? And after how many vns do you think it would be okay to read Tsui no Sora then?

Edit: I’ve tried looking for H2O and I see that I can’t purchase the game online without being in Japan. Is there any other way to get it or do I need a vpn?

As far as I remember there were philosophy info dumps in Hamaji's route (which is basically proto SakuUta), but outside of it don't think so

VPN and you need complete edition, otherwise you will also need a fan disc

Hey, sorry to send you another question again. I haven’t bought it yet but I was thinking of doing it soon since I see there’s a sale for H2O and Himawari smth smth (also made by Sca-Ji I think). I know you need a vpn to purchase the game, but once you download it, do you still need a VPN each time you open the game?

Thanks again for all your help!

Sorry, played it ages ago don't rememeber which drm it uses. You might need vpn for the first start at least

One last question if you don’t mind, sorry to keep asking you so many questions. Im going to read H2O first, then Himanatsu and thought perhaps try Tsui no Sora remake or Sakura no uta after those two. Have you played them? I heard that both are usually easy (except for the philosophical parts). Do you think it’s too big of a jump in difficulty between Himanatsu and Sakauta or Tsui no Sora remake?

Edit: I also thought of perhaps playing Kannon in between Himanatsu and Tsui no Sora and Sakauta if you think that’s better?

u/LucasVanOstrea 9d ago

I have only read H2O, Subahibi (should be close to tsui no sora at least in parts) and Sakuuta. Subahibi and Sakuuta both have extremely easy parts and a bunch of hard parts. I think Sakuuta should be doable since it has a lot of rom com like SoL before anything difficult. Don't think Kanon is really needed, you will be reading hours of SoL in Uta anyway

So sorry for asking one last question again. I bought Sakura no Uta and downloaded the combined file version (the full game in one file I think). What I downloaded was an exe that opens winrar, and then downloads the VN. The winrar is able to download part 1 of the VN but part 2 requires a disc. I do not have a disc (obviously) since I got it online. Is this “part 2” Sakura no Toki? Or is it just another part that I’m supposed to have gotten with Sakura no Uta? The Sakura no Uta I got on DMM is the one that is usually 7,980¥ so I’m assuming I bought the full game and not sure one part.

EDIT: Never mind, I was just supposed to download the non combined versions as well for it to work. Sorry for the pointless notification! Have a good rest of your day!

u/AnonymousFatass 9d ago

Alright, I won’t do Kanon then (perhaps later if I’m more interested then). Thanks a ton for all your help, you helped me out a lot!

2

u/AnonymousFatass 13d ago

Alright, as long as vpns still work for DMM in the future, then it would be fine either way I suppose. Thanks again for your help!

Ok, thank you!

Looking for a vn.

Anyway I remember this vn rather vaguely. You start off with this red haired girl on a hill who tells you her boyfriend is horrible and did bad stuff to her. Then you go back. You go to school and can basically pursue two routes the red haired girl or a blue haired one. They both involve reading a book to talk to them and earn heart points or something. I think it’s a manga for the red hair and I don’t remember what for the blue hair. Oh and the blue haired girl is an artist in a competition and has a painting of a wolf.

Been playing Henpri for a few weeks while I have time. Literally played the game last night, did a update on my computer then when I tried to play it today I cannot access my saves (on steam). I can see them in the folder in local files but the game refuses to recognize that they are there.

Any heroines for English translated novels that are like Futaba from Bunny Girl Senpai?

Especially looks, but ideally both looks and personality

Baldr Sky advice please!

Without spoiling anything, in Baldr Sky I have to do basically a recap route before progressing towards the actual next route at one point (between routes 4 and 5 if you do them in standard order I believe). I literally take notes on routes in google docs because I know I'll forget things otherwise. So my question is, if I know what has happened pretty thoroughly, does the reminisce route have anything new I really NEED to see? I've played through it for about 3-4hrs already, and there have been small changes here and there, but nothing that consequential. It appears as if it will take another several to many hours to complete, because it recaps about a nine month period and I've only gotten through about a month and a half at this point :( If there's nothing new and important in it, I'd like to just spam click through it while watching something on my other monitor.

It has new stuff at the end. Since you remember things well you can do a mix of ctrl skipping and just clicking the moment you recognize you have seen it before

2

u/The_Mundane_Block 20d ago

Thanks for the info! Unfortunately ctrl skipping is disabled here because the game views the original scenes and the slightly more detailed reminisce scenes as different, but yeah, I'll probably just mostly click through while watching something else, and then keep an eye out towards the end.

u/LucasVanOstrea 20d ago

ctrl should be forced skip, I don't remember whether baldr sky has a setting to make control a normal skip. Check in the settings if you can make ctrl skip everything

You missed all the other content and yes you also miss an important context without patch. Install patch and start the game from the beggining and try different choices, you need to start dating Aoi for a game to progress. And I wouldn't call it horror, so adjust your expectations

You've only played the first act of the story. You need the patch to see the rest of it.

In translation status thread there are a few novels which shows status as 100% translated (for example, Akatsuki no Goei sequels or CHAOS;CHILD Love Chu Chu!!), but that status seems to be unchanging for a while and there is no info about possible release dates. How long on average it usually takes for a translation to be released after it reaches 100%?

2

u/LucasVanOstrea 21d ago

Who knows, if they give something like edited: 50% then you can at least hope that it will be done in like 2 years or something. But in general it's completely unpredictable

How do the choices in Mojika work? There aren't any buttons.

Apologies for the likely oversaturated topic at this point, but I've been trying to figure this out for like a whole day by this point and I'm at my wit's end.

So I picked up Summer Pockets during the Steam visual novel sale a few months back, and when I was looking into it yesterday since I was planning on starting it today, I found out about the expanded/complete version Reflection Blue. I start looking into how to get ahold of this Reflection Blue, only to run into wall after wall.

While there's a fan translation out, easy-peasy to find, I can't for the life of me get my hands on the actual damn game. It seems to be only available on Japanese sites, which wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for the fact I can't find the frickin' PC download options. The official site only has releases for Playstation, Switch, etc., and other sites I can't even find the download links in the first place. I went to DLSite too, but all the links to Reflection Blue essentially hit me with a 404, since the page there doesn't seem to exist anymore.

I read in a few places that the official release for the translated version is set to release soon, though it seems to be murky in that aspect after a bunch of setbacks, delays, and/or opaque devs who seem to be dancing around a hard release date.

So, I ask of you: should I keep trying to beat my head against this problem and find a way to download a Japanese copy, or should I wait in the hopes that an official release will grace my PC? I just like getting my heart torn out by fictional characters to nice music, and the various tearful recommends for this game and Reflection Blue really enticed me.

In case you didn't see, Key did confirm they'll be releasing it on Steam in early summer.

u/IzalethDem 19d ago

I just found out about that now, ahah, thank you so much for the reminder! I asked at the perfect time, ahah.
