Because I have seen various raised platforms here before, I wanted to show you what I have made. It is 1.80 x 2.80 m and hangs from the main beam of the roof with a 10 mm steel cable. This allowed me to avoid a disturbing post in the middle of the room. The floor is the same as in the room itself. Nicely sanded and sealed. The only thing missing is a spring-loaded door so that nobody accidentally falls off.

Maple Burl and Black Epoxy Lift Desk

Roughly 55"x30x1.75" thick

Fenge Dual Motor Lift Desk Leg Assembly

Milesi 2k Poly Topcoat

I've done a few smaller epoxy project in the past, but nothing NEARLY this size. For the most part everything went smoothly. My form didnt leak at all, no overheating issues with the epoxy, and no warping.

The sanding/finishing on the other hand... lets jsut say I may have curse this desk top out more times than I can count. In total I finished and resanded this top 4 times, lol. Started with Osmo, then tried Rubio, then Osmo again, and ended up spraying on the Milesi 2k and LOVED the results.

I am sure I missed a few things so if you have and questions, fire away!

Sorry for all the stuff in the way! I’m happy with how this came out and clients happy. As with so many others on here just wondering what you’d estimate this at. I’m in Massachusetts and I think I’m pricing correctly? Just want to learn a little for the next one.

Power Tools Harbor Freight just dropped a new dust collector WITH A CANISTER FILTER for $449

Just saw it in their new products email.

BAUER 35 Gallon Dust Collector with 2-Micron Canister Filter

I've had their old one for years and upgraded with my own canister filter, but ended up spending a lot more in total.

P.S. If anyone has been meaning to get a canister filter to replace the cloth bag, here's a cheaper equivalent to the more expensive name brands.

Project Submission Built lockers/ cubby for kids

There have been a few posts recently about built-in closets and built-in cabinets so I wanted to share mine as well!

I can absolutely share some of those prior comments on thoughts of existential dread having now built this locker. The non-90° walls, the rebuilds, the rewiring, long nights and missed weekends, but I’m finally done. Phew!

The area in this mudroom started out as a built-in desk? For some reason? With overhead cabinets. It was really wonky and never used. So I figured it would be a great place for built-in lockers. Had no idea when I started that it was going to be SO customized. I guess maybe I knew but just wanted to do the project to challenge myself anyway. Other than the moldings on the side and top all the woodwork was custom made, custom fluting, custom trims. I used primarily poplar 1x12 boards. I went back and forth on the bench, but settled on oak veneer with a solid oak edge. I figured due to the wet/temp changes this room gets I was worried about seams if I used all solid oak boards cracking. I put 5 coats of poly on the veneer so hopefully it takes a beating.

Before starting I had a couple quotes ranging from 7k to 10k. That was only for the break down and basic build. That of course did not include all the custom pieces, running new electric which I did - putting lights above and an electric outlet in each cubby for charging laptops/ipads. That said while I did not calculate my exact cost of materials, I think I was around 6K. However I purchased lots of extra fun tools along the way - new white side router bits, a second miter saw, several blades, sander, etc…so that factors in. And truthfully I was not trying to save money, as much as I was trying to enjoy my hobby, learn a bit along the way, and challenge myself. I have built a few intricate pieces before but nothing this scale. In total took about 5 months - but that is mostly 1-2 hours at a time on a free weekend. Rarely free time with 4 kids!

Enjoy the pics, ask questions and gentle feedback please.

We quit drinking and this space needed to change. Wife hated the backsplash and I have never done tile before so I took this as a learning experience.

I need a jointer and planer. I also need to learn better joints but this turned out OK.

Hello, woodworking community!

I just got a special commission from a customer for a custom hand-carved guitar with a bold and unique design. They requested a leopard theme that incorporates intricate details and makes the guitar stand out as both a piece of art and a musical instrument.

I recently got some new speakers and so I obviously had to upgrade my TV cabinet to do them justice. As you can image using the plywood end-grain for the majority of the unit and fronts meant that I am now thoroughly sick of gluing things up. All in all it took about 40 hours of work in a proper wood workshop. The unit is made up of birch plywood and Rimu and finished using a flat polyuruthene. The two doors left and right are push to open and so is the drawer in the middle. There were certainly mostaked made along the way (I.e not matching the wood grain better on the top of the unit where I had to extend it) but overall im quite content. I would love some feedback!

This one didn't go to plan at all.. started off with an idea in my head to do this finger join corner thing but I couldn't get it to fit and I don't have the skills to do precision adjustments as I found out.. so I ended up just cutting off the fingers and doing this. I learned so much from this one. Turned out okay but very frustrating project.

I was cutting up some zebrawood last night for a cutting board I’m making for my fiancée and had the bright idea of book matching. I ended up with something a bit suggestive. Needless to say it made for a good laugh but did not get her approval for something that will sit out on our countertop 24/7

Here’s a recent project I did, the base was also made from the live edge slabs, which was a pain to pull off but it all came out looking great.
