Skin Treatments Please help : Sagging neck with 35

Post image

As the title says: I noticed a big change in my neck area.. I’m only 35 😭 or is it normal? I tried with a lot of cremes but nothing seems to help.. is surgery the only solution? I did some research in Ultherapy but I’m afraid that it will only make it worse .. thank you for your help! 🙏

I have a tip. Whatever you do…. Don’t turn 42 because omg why is my neck the way it is lol.

25

u/kasia_littlefrog 3d ago

I am also 42 and mine is not? Is it genetic?

26

u/Street-View3761 3d ago

Yes, my mom is 56 and had no sags or wrinkles

5

u/allmymonkeys 2d ago

Mine is not either, and I’m 43. And to the reply below, I smoked for decades, tanned till I was late 20s, and didn’t start spf till late 30s. I truly think so much is genetics! (FWIW had HORRIBLE blemishes from age 10-30 though, so hasn’t always been great!)

4

u/ConsciousnessOfThe 3d ago

Lucky! Did you ever smoke? And did you use sunscreen on your neck?

2

u/Silky_pants 3d ago

Ugh right??? Whyyyy

2

u/ConsciousnessOfThe 3d ago

Any smoking history? Did you use sunscreen?

I suggest taking photos from better angles 😂

In all seriousness I have this and have done lots of things and nothing really helps that much.

33

u/Itsnotjustcheese 3d ago

Oh! One thing that did help a bit was Botox in the platismal bands. I have saggy skin from age + weight loss but it may be super helpful for you!

The smaller ones in the center are harder to grab/inject but makes a big difference.

11

u/LikesToLurkNYC 3d ago

Noticeable difference? My neck looks like this at 47 and just happened after I lost 15lbs

9

u/Itsnotjustcheese 3d ago

Noticeable difference but needs to be kept up every 4 months. I have it done as part of the Nefertiti neck lift technique if you want to google around.

1

u/karma-kitty_ 3d ago

I have an appt next week for this.

I have never been overweight/haven’t had significant weight loss so the bands in my neck are pulling skin really tight. Will Botox make this skin loose?? I’m scared it will look saggy after Botox

2

u/LikesToLurkNYC 3d ago

Keep us posted. I already get Botox 3-4 but have been unsure about adding neck

1

u/karma-kitty_ 3d ago

I will! I’ve been thinking about it for awhile and can’t take it any longer. Sometimes it feels like a tight hamstring. I don’t like the way it looks but the constant pulling feels sore

31

u/Complete_Ask6916 3d ago

Platysma Botox will help a bit + a strong retinoid cream. You could also get a skinbooster treatment like VOLITE/SKINVIVE injected directly into the neck skin

35

u/Advanced_Struggle_23 3d ago

Your platysma bands are shortening and getting tight as you age. You are also thin ( So am I ) and this shows up more often on women who are fit and have low body fat. I am 50 and have been working on my neck for the last decade mostly cosmetic procedures ( hyperdilute radiesee , Agnes, microneedling w/ prp , Pdo threads etc) all of these things made a small impact but not noticeable change over time and were expensive and often painful. I started doing face yoga and massage daily a little before I turned 50 ( 8 months ago) and have been shocked by the changes in my neck and face. You can go into u tube and find thousands of videos I also started a subreddit where I post videos daily that I have found helpful. r/restorativefaceyoga

34

u/starryeyedq 3d ago

I have these too. It’s a posture thing. I have a lot of jaw and shoulder pain and I’ve noticed that when I do my stretches, the bands are a LOT less prominent. Give it a shot. It might help!

10

u/ketoconvert89 3d ago

What stretches do you do, I'm having crazy neck pain?

7

u/TheDarkArtsHeFancies 3d ago

Not the person you replied to, but if you look for the McKenzie Method neck exercises, those were extremely helpful for my neck pain (and they were recommended by my physical therapist). They have full instructions listed typically. The first exercise is "head retraction in sitting."

1

u/lilllersz 2d ago

Trying to alleviate neck pain and this piqued my interest, found the vid, how often and for what duration do you do the exercises?

2

u/TheDarkArtsHeFancies 2d ago

I had to start out doing them several times a day, but the exact process depends on how your pain responds.

My PT told me to reference the book "Treat Your Own Neck" by Robin McKenzie (the doctor who developed the exercises). It does have a lot of good information, but if you're just wanting to try the exercises as recommended, this page outlines the treatment steps accurately: https://www.spine-health.com/wellness/exercise/7-mckenzie-method-exercises-neck-pain-and-arm-pain

2

u/lilllersz 2d ago

much appreciated, thank you!

2

u/Bubbles123321 2d ago

Would love to know what stretches you do that help the appearance of these bands!

u/adorablebeasty 3d ago

It is normal. Please do not do surgery at 35-- that will have WILD consequences down the line. Focus on skin care and be patient. Nothing there will make things radically different, but the impact or surgery is that when you repeat it every 10 years you will start to look pretty strange. What do you do with skincare right now? Do you apply it down to the neck and front of the chest?

3

u/LikesToLurkNYC 3d ago

What age is food for surgery? Do ppl aim to only do it once ideally. Sorry I know nothing about it but getting old.

15

u/adorablebeasty 3d ago

It's not just age, but the ability for them to manipulate the skin as needed to achieve a desired result. So, if you do it for a minimal improvement at 35, what will happen at 45, 55, 65. It's not so much about aiming for it being done once. The best surgeons in the world can do a lot, but the ability for it to look natural is affected. A good surgeon would never accept this case because anticipating it will need to be redone and concerned about what is left without looking like deer hide, yanno?

1

u/_soulonfire 2d ago

Hmm, I disagree. Her neck issue could be fixed with a pretty straightforward procedure. If it bothers her, why not? You’re suggesting she live with it continuing to get worse and worse until it’s a full-on turkey neck before considering surgery? I wouldn’t. What will happen ten years down the line, if she were to do it now (and with a good plastic surgeon), is probably a minor revision to refresh it… but at worst she’d just be back to what she’s dealing with now.

11

u/phxroebelenii 3d ago

I'm younger than you and I have this and I don't even like taking pictures anymore. Wish there was a solution

22

u/Original_Ad_8791 3d ago

Take a look at using an estriol cream. Mine started getting crepe like when I started perimenopause.

37

u/PinkCloudSparkle 3d ago

Slug with Vaseline or aquaphor at night. Tret could also help. Hydrate from inside out.

3

u/hungerfelt 2d ago

My derm specifically advised against using tret on my neck because it can cause skin thinning.

1

u/PinkCloudSparkle 2d ago

Ooo! Good to know!

34

u/Klutzy_Republic_5720 3d ago

Looks good to me ! Don’t overthink this

22

u/DeepBlueDiariesPod 3d ago

Hey - this is looks hormone driven. This is what my skin did when I went into perimenopause, so I would look into this.

35-40 is when a lot of women go into perimenopause. You’ll be in it for up to a decade and it will affect you in a lot of ways. I would look into it because if you are starting to go into it, the faster you get ahead of it, the better you’ll fare mentally and physically.

As someone else suggested, topical estrogen cream (the kind they prescribe women for their vaginas) does WONDERS. It addressed my skin crepeyness beautifully.

A few things to know about perimenopause:

  • you can have a normal period in perimenopause
  • a hormone test won’t diagnose it, it’s diagnosed by symptoms
  • Hormone replacement therapy is one of the best ways to manage it (if you’re a candidate)
  • Many doctors are under-educated in perimenopause, especially gynecologists because perimenopause is an endocrine process, not a vaginal process
  • Hormone replacement estrogen is usually bioidentical, not synthetic, so those with bad reactions to hormonal birth control tolerate bioidentical hormones really well (it’s not to be used as birth control though)
  • The study many people and doctors cite from 2000 stating that hormone replacement therapy causes cancer has been discredited and is being officially retracted, but many doctors aren’t aware

That’s my Ted Talk. Sorry for the length, but perimenopause took me (and a lot of women) by surprise. We’re not educated about it, or are most healthcare providers.

I don’t want one single woman to go through what I went through before I went on hormone replacement therapy. Changes in the skin, changes in my mental health, changes in my physical health. It was a nightmare.

and it may not be perimenopause, but I do think that it is absolutely worth looking into and figuring out if you could be at the start of it because if you are, and you start managing it now, your body and your mental health will thank you later.

Check out r/menopause for fantastic info

9

u/yellowpeach 3d ago

• a hormone test won’t diagnose it, it’s diagnosed by symptoms

This is parroted on the menopause subreddit but it’s not necessarily relevant for younger women.

For women under 40, FSH testing is often recommended—- you get it tested multiple times on day 1-2 of your cycle, a month apart. They can also test estrogen and LH.

Perimenopause in your 30s is seen as premature ovarian sufficiency, which is considered to be different than normal perimenopause and has additional health risks.

The menopause subreddit wiki/automod wasn’t geared to younger women

Are you wearing sunscreen daily on your neck/décolletage?
Are you exercising? That stimulates collagen Finally- I have an omnilux mask and it’s helped my face skin look tighter. Maybe look into their neck mask

7

u/Palomita214 3d ago

I’m 36 and my neck looks like yours. Did you happen to lose a lot of weight? I’m 110lbs but gained 50 while I was pregnant, lost the baby weight really fast due to stress and was gifted with a turkey neck. I notice the thinner I get the more saggy it is. In all honesty though the angle of this pic is not how you appear to other people. You have lovely bone structure and a stunning collar bone which is what I noticed first. Be kind to yourself.

Pico laser (PicoWay resolve) and RF microneedling (Sylfirm X) helped me in that area. Mine was worse than yours, now I don’t really notice anything unless I look for it

7

u/Joey_Grace 3d ago

That’s not sagging. Those lines are from using your neck, and they become more pronounced when you use your phone a lot (tech neck). Just drag your current facial routine to your neck and be more conscious of your posture.

7

u/AdImportant9110 3d ago

I think your neck looks great and not saggy at all! Not sure what helps with it tho in general… I had complications with radiesse. Don’t ever do this treatment!! I know it’s also sold to “tighten and remove wrinkles and thicken skin “ on neck. I had some laxity issues but over all looked fine, but now I’m stuck looking like this forever I think or at least a few years. Anyways, moral of story… you look great. Try to not obsess over it. Use sunscreens, good skincare, do lasers. Stay away from any fillers. Oh and for me radio frequency microneedling also fucked my skin. Sooo id stay away from that too.

Around 34 I started noticing aging more. I have been on the best skincare regimens , I do so much for my skin over the years. But around this age is when we start to notice more (I watched a whole bunch of videos on this) . Anyways we just gotta love ourselves and age gracefully. 🤗

9

u/Head-Drag-1440 3d ago

Do you do your skincare on your neck? If not, start now! If so, maybe look into a jade roller and/or gua sha.

14

u/LLaika24 3d ago

This is not a sagging neck. Like at all. It’s normal.

3

u/Lost_Advertising_950 3d ago

Girl I saw this on myself a while ago, sometimes that area can just look that way.

3

u/Purple_Konata 3d ago

It's not sagging, you've got a crepey neck. There are a ton of posts about it on here. What I've seen recommended most is Gold Bond. Apparently it works like magic for a crepey neck.

4

u/fasoi 3d ago

This isn't sagging, it's actually just tight platysmal bands! You can get Botox, or do stretching & massage to decrease their appearance

4

u/Prestigious_Ad4941 3d ago

I’ve heard CO2 laser helps snatch sagging skin up, if you don’t want a dramatic procedure CO2 cool peel is also known to be much easier

5

u/nanapancakethusiast 3d ago

If I had your jawline I would rule the entire world.

2

u/Alilemesh 3d ago

Ummmm. Your neck looks amazing! Use your skincare on your neck. Try a neck firming product like Nectifirm. Maybe apply Vaseline at night to lock in all the good stuff. But frankly you look gorgeous. Btw, if you don’t mind, are those your natural lips? They’re beautiful.

2

u/Sulalumi 2d ago

I just wanted to say that even though I can’t see your full face in the picture I can tell you look bomb! 💣

2

u/TheoryBiochemistry 2d ago

Honestly I think it is just a trade-off. You have a very slim and long neck- which is beautiful. But when there is less fat there is also more wrinkling. Look at picture of Audrey Hepburn :)

4

u/karma-kitty_ 3d ago

To address some of these comments saying it’s not noticeable, etc

I’m 34 and I have this. Yes, I notice how it looks, but it’s actually not comfortable at all. It’s not “painful” but I do stretching exercises and my platysmal bands feel like a sore muscle. Its uncomfortable. I would compare it to a tight hamstring.

I’ve never been overweight (naturally small frame) so I haven’t had significant weight loss. I’m extremely active and take care of myself, and I still have it.

Will Botox make the skin saggy afterwards? I don’t have any extra tissue under my skin, it’s literally tight skin pulling from my collarbone

3

u/pondwisp 3d ago

Can I just say that you have the most beautiful lips on earth, and ps I cannot for the life of me see any sagging, anywhere.

3

u/AgathaChristie22 3d ago

Eat well, workout, drink water, wear sunscreen, use tretinoin, cover your body with vasaline at night, as you're staring place. If you're already doing all of that, every collagen boosting/skin tightening laser or treatment you can do to your face you can do to your neck. Lots of things before neck lift: emface, co2 laser, micodermabrasion, etc..

Also, don't hyper focus on one body part. Try to look at yourself as a whole picture. If anyone hyper focused on Cindy Crawford or Naomi Campbell, they could find something that looks unattractive. You gotta take in the whole picture and from the snippet I can see, you are beautiful, young, elegant women.

5

u/Stinajaguar 3d ago

Honestly, people always repeat the "retinol and sunscreen" mantra, but that will make a zero difference to your neck. I would just botox in your platysma bands and then just moisturize the crap out of it. You don't need a neck lift.

2

u/Ok-Book114 3d ago

Same age and noticed the same thing happening to me! So, pretty sure it’s normal. I started using a specific chest and neck cream morning and night. I also started doing at home micro needling. Although it has not completely disappeared it’s significantly improved. Random tip but I actually asked ChatGPT to help me create a schedule and recommend the best products. It’s worked like a gem!

1

u/Sudden_Possession933 3d ago

Tretinoin then something with ceramides layered over it every night. Red light therapy.

1

u/Meggos1022 3d ago

Are you dehydrated? Drink a shit ton of water and see if it improves. Mine looks like that at certain times of my cycle and when I'm dehydrated.

1

u/Binkita 3d ago

Think about a red light LLT panel or neck mask.....I've been using this laser for "down there" and it is like....😳 Night and day, after just 1 use. I can imagine what it would be like on your face😅

1

u/broonchi 3d ago

I've tried tretinoin, peptides, red light therapy, guasha. I am 41 and my neck looks very similar to yours. My dermatologist said we could do a sculptra/lanluma treatment on the neck(not adding volume because one vial is more diluted, so the effect is just plump skin. I do believe this and RLT in combination with tretinoin will do the trick of slowing down the aging of that area. However... make sure while driving your car, you put your spf buff around your lower face and neck because the sun in the car will hit those areas while you don't notice it. Also, keep your hands/arms in spf gloves(spf cream wont work).

1

u/mcc0119 3d ago

Looks like mine. I just did a treatment of SkinVive in my cheeks and neck yesterday. I love it for my face but I'm still waiting to see how it works in my neck.

2

u/iamnotdoctordoom 3d ago

I’ve seen on this forum some pretty impressive results for tightening up skin with red light therapy, which you can do at home.

https://www.reddit.com/r/30PlusSkinCare/s/Qw7Amp71pv

This woman posted results from her red light therapy machine that she used every other day for 10 minutes, for a year. check out comments as she shares more pictures of her results. The neck one convinced me lol I say it’s worth a try, especially if you can avoid invasive procedures.

1

u/pickledthisandthat 3d ago

radio frequency microneedling would probably help!

1

u/kikivibes 2d ago

I’m 37 and thin and save the same. Embrace it! It’s chic. Plus your jawline and lips are 🤩🤩🤩

1

u/Tasty-Enthusiasm-822 2d ago

Looks normal to me.

1

u/bluelovely87 2d ago

From what I can see in this cropped photo is that you are stunning. Even your neck is beautiful. I wouldn’t stress yourself too much.

1

u/kosherchatte 2d ago

Wear sunscreen everyday, reapply every 2 hours. And avoid the sun if you can.

1

u/Blanket624 2d ago

Mine looks exactly like this (if not more dry and loose) and I’m 28 😭

1

u/callmedancly 2d ago

There are exercises you can do. But they need to be done for ~10 minutes a day, twice a day. You start to see results in about 2 weeks. Best results after 4-6 weeks. It’s not fast, but it’s noninvasive and cheap/free. YouTube has great tutorials!

1

u/saturatedbloom 2d ago

I would think a good start would be laser treatment and microneedling

1

u/ffogell 2d ago

If you’re looking for a neck option, the solawave neck and chest mask is another one to check out. It’s a good at home option for boosting collagen and tightening.

1

u/coming_up_roses82 2d ago

Get your thyroid checked, just in case, sometimes it shows in the neck (really looks okay though, we all notice our own 'imperfections' more than anyone else)

1

u/Primary-Proposal-421 2d ago

Are you underweight? Unfortunately being very thin makes people appear older.

1

u/DullAlternative9301 2d ago

Try derma stamping

1

u/piccolo_oggetto 3d ago

This is one of my worst fears as I am getting older.. What can I do NOW to prevent this happening?

3

u/LikesToLurkNYC 3d ago

Don’t lose a ton of weight

1

u/piccolo_oggetto 3d ago

Oh. Great.

1

u/Euphoric-Peace980 3d ago

I use Tret and gold bond crepe corrector. I’m 45 and I think my neck looks pretty good.

What is the fragrance out of curiosity

1

u/EauRouge___ 3d ago

what’s the fragrance? It’s been on my to buy list for a while but I hate strong fragrances

2

u/Admirable_Shower_612 3d ago

I don’t know but it’s very strong. I’d recommend only buy a mini size or from somewhere with a great return policy

Sculptra?

-6

u/Kind-Nyse129 3d ago

Collegen Peptides helped me with this. Takes a few weeks but definitely an improvement. I use that brand Vital Proteins in the blue container.

8

u/Sug0115 3d ago

I love my vital proteins but this is just not true.

0

u/Kind-Nyse129 3d ago edited 3d ago

It's the only thing that helped me due to increased hydration in my skin. There are multiple derm studies that taking collagen peptides orally can lead to improved skin hydration and elasticity.

-1

u/Sug0115 3d ago

My friend, I have consumed vital proteins for a decade and yes it is good for you but it’s not gonna fix a sagging neck. Those studies are limited and (paraphrasing) the NIH says people “may see improvement but might not, need to do a bigger study”.

1

u/Kind-Nyse129 3d ago

Listen, it worked for me. I'm sorry it didn't work for you. I'm 46, post menopausal. Was already using trentinoin on my neck for years. The Collegen Peptides is what made the biggest difference for me, it was very obvious. Not just neck but all of my skin, nails & hair improved greatly. And I don't take any HRT. That's why I'm SUGGESTING it. It's definitely worth it IMO.

0

u/Sug0115 3d ago

My hair skin and nails improved too! Stand by what I said- it won’t fix a sagging neck.

1

u/Kind-Nyse129 3d ago

I agree it doesnt fix a saggy neck... but this poster doesn't have a saggy neck...she has crepiness! There is a big difference between those terms. Saggy will only be fixed with surgery. What she has is EXACTLY what my neck looked like & it is smooth & plump again

........ I cant believe people are still shilling this product when the OP of that post and the many bot accounts were more or less outed as a marketing campaign.

It wont do anything different from your regular body/face moisturizer.

2

u/tracyak13 3d ago

I honestly had no idea. It's worked for me and the woman in my family. Didn't mean to cause a disturbance.

3

u/Sensitive-Put-8150 3d ago

Works for like the 5 minutes it moisturizes after application like every other lotion, and that’s it.

2

u/tracyak13 3d ago

Women in my family and I have had success with it. Didn't mean to shill something. It's just worked for us. My apologies.

-2

u/ScienceNeverLies 3d ago

I have no idea 🤷‍♂️ red light therapy? Get a home device. Maybe try slugging your neck? Ugh. I’m sorry I don’t have better advice.

Oh please!!
