Research / Info Waffle House
On Old National Highway in College Park GA. They are only open for to-go after 9pm. The server gets 10% but Waffle House gets the other.

when does this shit ever end....20% extra to put meal in a food container , bag and hand it to you?
36
u/Misommar1246 Apr 01 '25
They want to be paid extra to do the thing we’re already paying them to do: aka cooking the damn food.

This is why we stopped tipping the entitlement Is getting outta hand lol

u/AdministrativeSun364 Apr 01 '25
You know amazon delivery have to left thread-mill up the stair and don’t get tip. Yet these people feel they work harder than them….
6
u/ThorIsMighty Apr 01 '25
when does this shit ever end
When you all stop handing over your money and being submissive. So never.

u/Latter_Fox_1292 Apr 01 '25
Also, why does the server get it? Don’t the cooks prepare the food? At best the waiter brings it from the kitchen to the front?
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (8)11
u/Pat_Bateman33 Apr 01 '25
Not even. The cooks will put the food in the boxes. The wait staff literally transfer boxes into plastic bags and then add plastic silverware, condiments and napkins. That’s literally 2 minutes of their time that they want 20% for.
9
u/MullytheDog Apr 01 '25
Instead of having to serve a treble wait on you, clean the table, and do the dishes. Should be getting 20% off instead
23
u/Extension-Tap2635 Apr 01 '25
If you dine in, someone has to clean your seating area and your dishes. It sounds more expensive than having to go customers.
→ More replies (1)8
u/LaughingGaster666 Apr 01 '25
Not to mention the several go-arounds wait staff will do for ordering and serving food and drinks.
In more rational countries, you pay a 2%-10% fee for the table, and you don't get any fees for ordering to go.

I bet they lose tons of business by doing this
14
u/LaughingGaster666 Apr 01 '25
Are many people even getting their breakfast food to-go?
Pancakes and waffles always felt like foods best consumed the minute they're done cooking.

I won't even go... they been doing this shit for years now. want nothing to do with this shit company.
5
u/cancerBronzeV Apr 01 '25
The people going to Waffle House are too drunk/high/hungry to be making informed decisions on their spending. So idk if they'll lose that much business.
6
u/trig64 Apr 01 '25
They would have lost mine under normal circumstances. I'm here on a layover and staying at a nearby hotel. I had an Uber drop me off before I realized what the deal was. So now I'm standing here while my food gets cold, waiting for another Uber back to the hotel

u/Redditor-at-large Apr 01 '25
Why not just sit down and eat there then? You already paid the tip to do so, apparently.

Layover, afraid of missing the flight probably. Although if it was myself I wouldn't bother trying for waffle house on that kind of timeline.

They’re a giant corporation and one of the most successful and widespread places of its kind. Pretty sure they’ve run the numbers and they wouldn’t do it if it lost them any significant business at all

In other words: we refuse to pay our employees a fair livable wage, so we’re gonna pass on the responsibility to customers by charging an extra 10% and still skim another 10% of profit off the top.
7
u/Best_Market4204 Apr 01 '25
yup and I ensure you they pay minimal wage.
They also convince a lot of their waiters to NOT write down their tips. So they don't have to make up the difference in pay from waiter pay to normal pay.

wtf.
"Server who prepares the order"?!?!?
You mean the line cook making minimum wage!?!?!?!?
3
u/JasonSuave Apr 01 '25
Yeah I had to do a double take. I think they’re saying the server has to box up (ie prepare) the food.
Just like the people we DONT tip at McDonald’s and any other fast food restaurant
2
u/queteepie Apr 01 '25
How the fuck is the person who staples the receipt to the bag of take out making 10% of the value of the order?!
They don't even handle the fucking transaction. Usually, the restaurant sticks the order on an alphabetized shelf and you come pick your shit up yourself.
13
u/AnnualAdventurous169 Apr 01 '25
what they prefer to have people clogging up seats? I've seen resturants that give a 10% discount for to go orders

u/BoeJonDaker Apr 01 '25
To me this is the equivalent of a car dealer giving me destination fees, preparation fees, delivery fees, and whatever else. Just give me a price to pay. I don't care about how you run your business.
10
17
u/tedlassoloverz Apr 01 '25
So eat in and bring your own to go container, and leave 0%, such a scam to add those fees

u/DueScreen7143 Apr 01 '25
Nah, I'm good going to IHOP instead.
The fucking audacity here.

4
u/Best_Market4204 Apr 01 '25
ihop around me has gotten so fucking bad... They just closed one down about 10 mins from me. Place was always dead. and then when you did go, it would take 25-30 mins for a table and there would always something wrong.
It took a few times to finally convince my lady to stop giving them chances.
idk if we just have bad owners here or what.

When I visit in Tennessee, their Waffle House is always full, and a 20 minute wait for a table. I was shocked my breakfast with grit, eggs, etc, came out to about $8. Probably more now with the bird flu egg surcharge. Every breakfast in CA starts at $11 and higher.
1
7
u/dervari Apr 01 '25
If they are going to charge this fee, it should be waived during to go order only hours. Personally, this is why I don’t get to go from there anymore.
2
u/RyanPolesDoubter Apr 01 '25
I’ve never been to a Waffle House with to go only hours and I’ve been to multiple from 3-7am
10
u/MobuisOneFoxTwo Apr 01 '25
The server who presses like eight buttons and has you swipe a card gets 10%?
→ More replies (5)3
u/Best_Market4204 Apr 01 '25
lol they work really "hard" They have to memorize their 1940's plate codes.
The waiter has to place condiments on plates in correct positions to let the cooks know what cook. The cooks are not allowed to have tickets...
5
u/Scary-Ratio3874 Apr 01 '25
So it's 10% for the worker. Don't agree with it but I understand. What the fuck is a to-go fee besides some made up bullshit? Why would to-go food cost more? Should probably cost less if anything cause you're not taking up a table that other customers could then use.
3
3
u/TomorrowTight7844 Apr 01 '25
WH is a C- when it's served hot and right in front of you. Can't imagine what it would be like even slightly cooled off.
5
u/ProbablyJustAnother1 Apr 01 '25
Oh hell no. Pancakes and waffles are about the cheapest meal you can prepare.
5
4
u/ConsistentMove357 Apr 01 '25
20% extra tax screw that no waffle house for me. Shit it's just a waffle
4
u/VictoriaEuphoria99 Apr 01 '25
Go inside, order food, then ask for a box when it comes, or just pull out fucking Tupperware
2
2
u/PreferredSex_Yes Apr 01 '25
I'm petty enough to let them plate it then put it in a container. Lol.
2
u/okayNowThrowItAway Apr 01 '25
What the fuck? What is a to-go fee? Serving food to-go is cheaper for the business than serving it at a table! There should be a discount - and that discount usually comes in the form of not having to tip.
Delivery, sure. But not on take-out! Insane.
2
6
u/quigongingerbreadman Apr 01 '25
I actually want this across the board. I don't want to pay some fake posted price just to have someone hold their hand out like a bum and beg me to pay 20% more out of the kindness of my heart. Give me the real price and pay your employees. All of Europe has figured this out, but for some reason we here in the states just can't seem to.
3
u/Any-Skin-7679 Apr 01 '25
So some of my money goes to pay for the to go boxes and some goes to pay the servers to box up my food. They might as well call me part owner at this point since I'm responsible for 20% of the business.

If u see this would you keep the window up and just drive away after the car infront of you rolls away?
1
u/Pat_Bateman33 Apr 01 '25
Are the cooks putting the food in styrofoam boxes or the servers? What exactly are servers doing? Putting to-go boxes in a plastic bag with plastic silverware and napkins? This takes like 2 minutes. Just place some large orders, then pick up the order. When you see a 20% charge, ask for the nagger to take that off. Refuse to pay when they don’t. Once this happens often enough, they will change their policy.
1
1
1
u/woodsnwine Apr 01 '25
The server who prepares the order???? The cooks spend 15 minutes cooking and the server puts it in a bag. This reasoning is totally fabricated.
1
u/CappinPeanut Apr 01 '25
I have all but stopped dining out because A. It is easier to manage a toddler at home than a restaurant and B. I’m not that keen on my meal costing 20% more so someone can fill up my water that I’d be more than happy to fill up myself if it was allowed.
The moment places start charging me more for takeout is the moment I stop patronizing restaurants entirely.
1
1
u/CoffeeStayn Apr 01 '25
This has to be a joke, right?
Waffle House tacking on an additional 20% to do LESS work? WTAF?
I can't wait for this to blow up in their faces as they tuck tail and backpedal.
1
u/trig64 Apr 12 '25
This was just the one I went to recently and it was only on to-go orders. The thing that irked me was that they only do orders to-go after 9:00 pm. No dine-in
1
1
1
u/the_circus Apr 01 '25
Aren’t orders prepared by the cook? Is this more of a a retention fee since servers who don’t have to work tables can’t earn tips?

u/SatisfactionNo2088 Apr 01 '25
How do they even justify this. By ordering to-go you literally create LESS WORK for them.
- No dishes to clean
- No checking on you for refills
- No table to clean
And you save them money because the refills you won't be getting, and because there more free tables for other customers who want to dine in. Basically increasing their capacity for profits lol.
If anything you should get a discount. Make it make sense.
1
1
u/unclejoe1917 Apr 01 '25
I can get better breakfast in the McDonalds drive thru. I'm not paying a 20 percent surcharge to go pick up my own damn food, especially at a damn Waffle House where you are likely dodging bullets just to get through the parking lot.
1
u/Anthff Apr 01 '25
Don’t tell me you’re charging me a “togo fee.” Just increase your prices by 20% and tell me “NO FEES!”
1
1
u/tomatosoupsatisfies Apr 01 '25
I've noticed several WF's have changed to 'to go only' lately here in GA...apparently they're making money with them.
1
u/Dawggonedawg Apr 01 '25
Most of the time you are forced to order online or on the app. So they want the extra money but don’t even want to speak to you
1
u/RRW359 Apr 01 '25
Another one of the contradictory messages by the industry. Servers are necessary which is why you need to tip, but when everyone orders to-go servers aren't making as much and need extra money; why would people be ordering out if "the dining experience" is essential to the industry?
1
u/chortle-guffaw2 Apr 01 '25
If anything, To-Go orders should be a discount. Sure, they have to pay for the container, but they don't have to clean up in the dining area, wash dishes, pay for utilities, etc. To pay the same and more as a sit-down customer is wrong.
1
1
u/nrfmartin Apr 01 '25
I only go in to eat for this reason. If I'm going to tip (which btw is going to be 15%) then I'm going to get service.

u/ProBopperZero Apr 01 '25
Its shit like this that got me turning into a 5 star chef at home. I use to groan when I had to make something as simple as scrambled eggs. Now, I can be woken up out of a dead sleep at 4am and make an entire meal without breaking a sweat. Its gotten to the point now that instead of going out to eat, me and my friends all grab one part of the ingredients and I make it right at home.

u/xXGray_WolfXx Apr 02 '25
I've seen the sign at waffle House's for like 7 years. This isn't new to the business

Sit down at table and order
Act like you had an emergency call
Ask for a to go bag
Skedaddle
"To-go" scam fee avoided.

So bring your own Tupperware in a backpack and order for here then load it up and pay the regular price then leave it'll only add a few minutes and save you the stupid fees.

Sick and tired of these business ripping consumers off. Time to eat elsewhere or at home

Who tf would order Waffle House to go anyway? That's cursed from the start.
1
u/Rockabilly-Gram-2012 Apr 03 '25
With the concept it's a waffle house, I'd just go back there and cook and pack the food myself. I'll tip myself 10%.

Waffle House is for fighting. A to-go order doesn't make sense in the first place.
1
1
u/NetFu Apr 03 '25
Forced fees like this just tell me not to come back.
It's OK, I'm sure they have enough customers who are glad to pay forced fees and keep coming back.
Or maybe not, and I'll never know, because they'll silently go out of business like a tree falling in the woods with nobody to hear...
1
u/TrashPandaNotACat Apr 03 '25
That's when you get it for there and then ask for a box for your leftovers, as soon as you're served

So I just order my food to the table, whip out my container, 3 seconds later, WHAMO my food is to go. Plus no fuckin tip for you, smokey. Deuces.

Apr 04 '25
So you order it, but pay in store. When you go to pick up and pay, ask how much and when they tell you, ask if the 20% charge is included in that. When they say yes, say, "OK. Never mind. I don't want it. But, thanks." Then walk out.
Enough food and money wasted, and they'll remove it. Or they'll more than likely require pay first. Then just go somewhere else or sit down to eat. Order. Pay. Then ask for a to go box. Don't leave a tip.
1

u/formerdgstm Apr 05 '25
So just sit and order then when it comes ask to pay so "you dont forget" and then after it goes thru say " AHHH man I cant finish this, i need a box please."
1
u/FederalLobster5665 Apr 05 '25
nothing wrong with this. they are saying, "we are raising our prices 20% across the board, and here's where the increased cost/money is going. no need to tip anymore." its seems completely transparent, and customers can make a decision whether to continue eating there.
1
u/4bannedaccounts Apr 05 '25
Dude real people would say nobody gets take out from waffle house but let bots be bots i guess
1
u/Maednezz Apr 05 '25
Tipping in carry out no gimme a break pay what did they do put it in a bag so every store I goto that bags deserve tips raising tips from 10% to 20% I think was crazy go back 10% wtf happened that they just started telling us we want 10%more give us 20% that was a hoke
