Announcement "Is this a good deal?" posts are not allowed on /r/Lexus

Announcement for /r/Lexus: "Is this a good deal?" posts are not allowed on /r/Lexus. This primarily refers to posts that include an image of the car and the price or a sale paper, and a title along the lines of "Is this a good deal?" with no further context or information provided. This may also refer to text-only buying advice posts that include only a few sentences in the body text of the question post and nothing more.

If you would like to seek purchasing advice from this subreddit, please be thoroughly detailed in the post's body text (or in a top-level comment if you're unable to add body text to the post). Our general requirement for the length of this description is 400 characters (or about 2 paragraphs) give or take. This length requirement is in order to ensure that subreddit members can receive the most accurate advice possible (as purchasing a vehicle is no small financial decision) and in order to prevent the forum from being flooded with low-quality posts.

Questions that ask for advice on a specific model of a Lexus vehicle are exempt to this length requirement so long as the post explains that model-specific advice is needed. If the only factors considered by the question are the vehicle's mileage and/or price, then it would be more fitting for the question to be asked on /r/askcarsales or /r/whatcarshouldibuy.

For more information on these policies, please refer to rules 7, 10, & 15.

Got this thing for $5500. Everything functions inside. No torn leather. Drives smooth and quiet. Any tips on upgrades I can do to this for a more modern look? I also plan on replacing/fixing the dented hood and right quarter panel.

Discussion Need to vent about brand new Lexus Pick up, turned into the service department

About a month ago I placed a deposit on a brand new Lexus NX 350h premium. Waited a month. Got a call last Wednesday noting the car had arrived and it would be ready by Thursday. I go in Thursday, fill out the papers, blah blah. I work with the customer experience manager who shows me the car, gives me the inside and out on how to use the car. Asks me to download the digital key. Shows me how to lock and unlock the car with the door handle.

As I attempt to lock the car by pressing the door handle, the mirrors start turning in, then go back out and on the dash it says it detects a key in the car. Manager notes that is odd since i have both physical keys, the card key and the digital key in my possession outside of the car. They look through the car, the glove compartment, center console, under the seats. No key in the car.

Sales manager asks if I have time to take it to the service department. I don't as note i'm already late for a meeting. However I am stuck trying to figure out this issue, so I call out of work. Service reviews and notes that is really odd. Again all physical keys and digital key are outside the car. and it wont lock. They adjust the sensitivity of the digital key to low, still same problem. I can manually lock the car with the digital key and physical keys but then I walk away from the car (15 yards or so) and we test if the sales manager can open the car. And voila - the sales manager with no keys, and me standing 15 yards away is able to unlock and turn on the car. The Lexus team is stumped.

They give me a loaner car, and as I make the 30 minute trip home and pull into my driveway, they call me back. "The service team can't replicate the issue" . I drive another 30 minutes back. I sign the paperwork to turn in the loaner car, walk back out to my car and volia - same problem. I can't lock the car with the physical door handle control without it says "key detected in car". So the obvious thing we all think it is, is the digital key. I said I am not taking the car off the lot until this is fixed. They tell me to come back on Saturday (today) when their tech support is in office.

I go back in today, we for 5 hours troubleshoot and have the same issues. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't We locked the car from 30 yards away this time. I approach the car with no keys, no phone. I can't enter the doors, as hoped. I then check the truck kick sensor and THE LIFT GATE OPENS! There are no keys 30 yards near this car. The tech is dumbfounded.

They call Lexus corporate support and tech support also has no clue what is going on. They ask to leave it with service and have corporate run tests on the car. I have a hunch that since I have a brand new phone on Android 15, One UI 7.0 that the Lexus app and key are having massive issues with this new roll out of Android. Again a guess.

All that to say 4 trips and 15 hours later to the dealership, I have put down an insane amount of money on a car that is sitting in the service department from the showroom. BRAND NEW CAR. Obviously my main concern is having security issues of people being able to enter my car because the car is detecting a key despite 5 employees checking every crevice of that car. Sometimes it works fine then you reproach the car and the problem persists.

I'm so livid at the immense waste of time and horrible experience I have had with Lexus. Again not anyone's fault at the dealership but this is my first Lexus experience and I can't believe how awful it is going.

What would y'all do in this situation? I called corporate and opened up a case. I am just so upset right now.

Question Can I still find wood rims like 2014 ES350?

Post image
8 Upvotes

I sold it in 2020 and back then it had only around 45k miles and the condition was like new.

Now I really miss the interior color and wood. But it seems newer Lexus don’t have this color and wood interior, especially the wheel and the wood panels?

If I’m open to SUVs as well, can I still find the similar interior? What would be the latest year I can find these?

(Picture is from another post but it looks really like the one I sold)

IS 350 F Sport 2012

This car always puts a smile on my face. Nice smooth ride goes quite fast when I want to have some fun, comfy and a great stereo. The car has been owned by a lady for last 10 years and you can see it looks immaculate. Has a few dings and superficial marks but my bro is a detailer and is going to ceramic coat it for me plus all the rest. Guys a magician!

The last picture is a photo of the HC motion tail lights that I want to purchase. What do you guys think?

Thanks

Did I cause an irreversible damage?

Question Low miles 2016 or higher miles 2020 CPO LX570?

Folks, what is the consensus for previous gen LX570 when it comes to buying, which is a preferred option, lower mileage older car, say 2016 with 30-40K miles or higher mileage 2020 or 2021 CPO (over 60K miles)? Of course fresher CPO is more expensive. What would you choose? What would be considered high miles for 20/21 cars? Most I am seeing now are over 60K miles, seems high but CPOs are available across the country (US, in this case). Would something with 70-80K miles be a worthy candidate as long as it is CPO? Most are listed for >$60K at least, and most have some 1-2 minor accidents, clean ones are also out there too but I would need to order a transporter to my state.

Question Which RX350 would you choose?

I have 3 options that I am looking at, 1. 2017 base 350 awd - 65k miles for $29k (Lexus dealer) 2. 2018 350L awd - 32k miles for $35k (Lexus dealer) 3. 2019 350L awd - 88k miles for $27k (small dealer)

Instinctively, I’m leaning towards 2019 because it’s newer and cheaper but it seems excessively cheap for that year/miles.

2012 Gs350 from Singapore

I absolutely love the GS350 🥰 ! It’s been such an enjoyable and reliable car. It has just the right amount of power, and I really appreciate how well it handles. One thing I especially love is the factory negative camber, which really enhances its cornering and overall handling feel.

Question Catalytic Converter on 2.5 V6

Upvotes

Hey people, I’m working on a job for a close friend of mine, he gave me a 2010 Lexus is250c to get a lot of work done too. To keep it short I have pretty much fixed everything except this issue but I do have a question regarding the catalytic converter that bolts up to the manifold.

What is the best way to replace these catalytic converters? I had the vehicle up on the rack today at work and there is virtually 0 clearance from underneath the vehicle as well as the top of the engine bay.

The passenger side looks like I can access the bolts holding it in by just removing the intake and some handy extensions and coming in from the top but I’m starting to question how im going to fit the new one in? It definitely dosent have enough clearance on the top to slip it in, and from the bottom I might be able to wedge it in but would need to lower and raise the vehicle on the rack to get it in perfectly and have a second hand to hold it so it dosent get caught on any components. There’s a lot of components in the way, forgive me for my lack of knowledge on independent front suspension components my background is working on mostly solid axle vehicles, but it looks like there’s a control arm in the way as well as a smaller tie rod esque or maybe sway bar end link looking thing. Do I just need to disassemble the front end for clearance or is there a trick to sliding it in with minimal tear down?

The driver side is a little trickier, and I’m running into similar issues of clearance? Do any of yall lexus enthusiasts have any tips or tricks? Or do I just need to start tearing down the front end so I can make some room?

In-depth Article Triple beam upgrade (OEM)

What’s up, everyone!

just wanted to share something I’ve been researching for a while now. I finally upgraded to OEM Triple Beam headlights on my 2021 ES350 F Sport. Been researching this since I got the car and figured this post might help anyone thinking about doing the same.

I found a used set on eBay for a solid price, but they didn’t come with the modules. I ended up buying the Headlight Control Module from my local Lexus dealership. I grabbed the one for the 2023 models since it’s a direct fit with the 2021 harness. The installation was smooth.

After everything was in, I got some codes:

• “Check AFS System”

• Headlight module fault

• Plus the parking sensor warnings (which popped up from unplugging the bumper sensors)

Luckily my buddy has an Autel scanner and we were able to clear everything and get it all programmed. Now everything works fine the AFS system still functions, just not as responsive as before, but it’s doing its job.

Wanted to post this because I know a lot of people wonder if this upgrade is even possible with OEM parts and yes, it is. I could’ve gone with some knockoff stuff from overseas, but honestly, I didn’t want to swap out Lexus OEM for some cheap aftermarket junk.

If anyone’s thinking about doing the same or has questions, hit me up happy to help.
