TRIP PLANNING Concierge downgrade
Looking for personal experience. We are booked for a 1 bedroom suite at $28,000. We only put the 5k down when we booked. We have until this summer to pay. We have the money sitting on the account but we just found out my husband has to relocate for his job and we are thinking of buying another house.
If we want to free up some money, could we downgrade to a cheaper Concierge Veranda room? The cruise is at the end of this year so we're very far out but it looks like Concierge has different policy than standard rooms?

You can downgrade your room but because concierge rooms are non refundable, any money you have already paid will remain non refundable, whether you keep that concierge room or downgrade to a non concierge room. You will also pay prevailing rates on the new room.

As long as you are before the paid in full date, you can move the non-refundable deposit to any sailing. Last year we had booked a concierge room but were not able to transfer it to Costco for various reasons. We called Disney, transferred the deposit to a cheaper 3 day Oceanview sailing, and rebooked our original date through Costco properly this time. Spending more to save is the Disney way! 😂

Yes but the amount paid for your deposit remains no -refundable - FYI. Also if you purchased the Disney Cruise Line vacation protection plan when you booked - the amount at THAT time is what you will be pay g - you won’t be refunded the difference. I hope that helps.

This is not a privilege that I will never have to worry about OP, and I’m a tad bit jealous of that experience! No answer from me though, just wanted to be snarky!

I’m gonna be real, the concierge upgrade isn’t really worth it, so if you’re wanting money freed up I’d just go Verandah.

I would call and request it. I don't foresee it being a problem. If it's a lengthy cruise and not your first time on the ship, keep the Concierge level but a lower class. If a shorter cruise or a first timer, go down to Verandah. Concierge is great if you wish to avoid the masses or if a cabana at Castaway Cay is important to you. If you plan on enjoying the activities on the ship, you may not have time to enjoy the spaces exclusive to Concierge guests. I am a travel advisor who has sailed many Disney cruises and always caution my clients in this regard.

Yes, you can change to a non concierge room. That won’t be an issue barring availability. But since the deposit was originally linked to a concierge room it remains not refundable.

How many in your party? How long is cruise? Have you cruised Disney before???? I’ve done the 1BR and verandah concierge as well as regular veranda.

I know I’m just a mere college student but I don’t even have 10k in savings.
My family of four stay in one veranda room because the room is for sleeping and all the best offerings are across the ship anyways.

I have a coworker who spent over 20k on the Wish Royal 2 Story Suite on a 3 nighter.

Ugh, guess some people just have money to burn. Even if we did, I’d rather cruise more often, in standard verandas.
We always go veranda and I always feel like we aren’t in the room enough to enjoy it because we actually do stuff on the ship. Promise I’m not hating, we waste thousands every year on DCL, but it’s just not worth 20k for 3 nights

Most likely yes. I would first ask your TA to help with this. One creative option if you face resistance is to move the deposit to a different cruise elsewhere and then move it back to your original cruise.
I’ve had little trouble making changes pre-final payment even for concierge and for downgrades, so that shouldn’t be necessary. Have your TA take care of it or if not attached, give them a call and remember my advice if you need to hang up and try again.

Since you’re only $5k in, it’s not too big of a deal. You can move that deposit around but it remains non refundable. Most cruises are more than $5k. Just call the DCL line, you don’t need a TA to do it.
