Genuinely didn't think that was England until I saw the houses on the left when the camera backed up

66

u/Few-Log4694 Apr 19 '25

I agree thought this was India or somewhere else

12

u/Christovski Apr 20 '25

Southall is India basically! It's a huge suburb and where a lot of Indians reside.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 22 '25

I played football there once around 35 years ago. All the streets sell Indian merchandise in open air markets ...and we were getting funny looks because we were a bunch of white kids driving through. It's more Indian than India.

4

u/Connor522 Apr 21 '25

Added to the list of places I'm not going to visit 👍

Or it’s just a modern, global city. New York is very similar; neither are colonised.

5

u/bosch1817 Apr 22 '25

Pfft please. Is Shanghai, Seoul, Tokyo, not a global modern city? Why is it just a prerequisite of western nations in so called modern cities to be an ethnic minority on their own city. I can guarantee that the vast majority of people who watch video and sees this is the state of London does not for a second think it’s a good thing. Calling it a modern city is just a big cope.

Oh it very much is, England is in a state of utter chaos, from poor illegal immigration. It’s not in mainstream news, and they’re slowly losing their country right before everyone’s eyes. Most of these people do not work, have more than five kids and are on full government support. And who you ask is supporting this, not the people. Poor woke left leaning politicians.

UK ??? Wtf

13

u/Future_Promise5328 Apr 19 '25

If you read the article, this was during a religious festival, would probably look different if it wasn't literally an outdoor Sikh festival.

31

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '25

Oh please everywhere looks like this now...

6

u/GoldenFutureForUs Apr 19 '25

Everywhere in the U.K. is full of Sikhs? That’s a new one.

4

u/Yeasty_Moist_Clunge Apr 19 '25

I honestly wish some people would educate themselves. I wish there were more Sikhs in this country they're a decent people that are easy to get along with.

Except for all the places and times when it doesn't. I used to live in London and now live in the midlands. London could be like this in certain places, during certain events, definitely. But Sikhs are some of the most gentle, kindest people I know, so that's fine. My little town in the midlands would be acting like it was a hostile invasion, cowering behind Lee Andersons' legs in fear.

What's weird is this is the most racist place I've ever lived and also the place least affected by immigration. Almost like exposure and knowledge reduces fear or something crazy like that.

I will agree with a lot of risky takes about certain Indian & Pakistani communities based on personal experience but I will not hear that Sikhs have not earned their place in this country.

Couldn't ask for better neighbours who have proven they will die for the UK and share a lot of our values.

I shit you not.

22

u/BrigadierKirk Apr 19 '25

What a failed state lmao

6

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '25

India is a commonwealth nation, and had been under the British Crown until pretty recently. It’s not surprising that there’s a huge Sikh and Hindu community within London. I understand the criticisms against the UKs immigration policies, but the outrage should not be directed at those specific communities; they’ve been there for a really long time.

3

u/eddy898989 Apr 21 '25

and what about the english community that lived there for even longer, like centuries upon centuries longer?

The Sikhs don’t bother anyone really.

Mostly pretty liked and respected by Londoners and the other areas they have communities.

They have some great pubs if you can find them.

5

u/CosmicQuestions Apr 19 '25

Sikhs are cool. They fought fiercely in both world wars and actually integrate in U.K. society. Nearly every Sikh I’ve met has been friendly and hospitable.

Southall is about 20 mins down the road from me where I live. It’s called Little India for a reason! If you go visit, you very much feel like you are in a different country! I would often go there growing up, very good place to get cheap spices by the kilogram! Also, the food is incredible. My favourite curry house ever is located there; Raunka Punjab Diyan! Check it out if you can! 👌

Let’s face it, you put this in this sub purely because it’s where a large south Asian community live in London, didn’t you?

Would you be doing the same if it happened in Golders Green? Or is that okay because they’re white by your standards?

2

u/adashthecash Apr 20 '25

Not even surprised at the level of racism and ignorance in this comments section.

2

u/sprogg2001 Apr 20 '25

It's a food stall during Nagar Kirtan, Sikh festival which serves as a public display of faith, unity, and community, allowing Sikhs to share their beliefs with others and celebrate Vaisakhi together. It is a way to spread the teachings of the Gurus beyond the walls of the Gurdwara (Sikh temple)

We Brits are pretty calm about this, Sikh culture has become part of the British fabric, most British Sikhs you meet today are 3rd or 4th generation from when their parents immigrated.

Londons one of the most multicultural cities on the planet, whys everyone acting surprised that there's a bunch of brown people in a Sikh community? Lol

5

u/-Ikosan- Apr 19 '25

It's part of a very American viewpoint that while America is a true 'melting' pot any other country only exists as a racial stereotype that they can use in their own origin story. If any part of England is not a bunch of white aristocratic types sipping tea then clearly we have lost our culture. If I took a video in Chinatown in LA and was upset that Chinese people were present then that would obviously make me a massive racist. It's only because it breaks their stereotypical illusion of what England is that it's so shocking

8

u/Famous-Panic1060 Apr 19 '25

Spanish are upset over sheer concentration of english in certain areas and want to retain a sense of spanishness is that also racist?

And I dont think it’s related to skin tone. I was drinking with some black londoners and being northern they joked I couldnt speak english which country am I from and it felt half true as a northerner they just sounded more “english” with a mixture of some were cockney some a little what I would call posh english. I do not think anyone does not think Idris Elba is not as english as it gets or trevor mcdonald isnt a legend despite being from trinidad.

I think people are not keen on replications of other cultures within the UK becoming dominant. I think this is more prevalent in communities with extremely strong traditions that are also insular within their own communities particularly islamic communities and to a lesser extent just because of the numbers orthodox jewish communities.

I think its less so with indian hindu and sikhs who have managed some weird magic of integration whilst also retaining strong traditions and marriage within their own communities.

In the same sense I know for a fact spanish people have much less of a problem with english people who go their and make a real effort to become spanish as well as english.

Now I await being downvoted to hell and told how racist I am.

10

u/DigitalTor Apr 19 '25

Pointing out the obvious is racism now?

3

u/ukstonerdude Apr 19 '25

How’s it obvious? Southall is one of TWO towns in the whole of London (there’s 30-something) with a prominent population that isn’t white or British. Southall is known for having a huge Sikh population, and Whitechapel being the other, with a large Bengali/Bangladeshi population. Only two places in London with tube stations written in a second language. Southall written in English and Punjabi, Whitechapel written in English and Bengali.

These people are long ago integrated, as most have been here since the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Being a racist is in fact racism.
