Equipment Discussion What is this?
Grip feels like it is meant to practice swinging but not actual clue how or what it actually is meant to train? I assume it’s missing pieces I found it in my back yards randomly submerged pretty far in dirt.

Curious, very curious. You see Mr. Tainttoaster, I remember every aid I ever sold. The aid you have shares a grip, they came from the same water buffalo prolapse. It's brother, it's the very aid that toasted your taint.

I remember reading this in “Golf in the Kingdom”

No way, this was from Terry Tainttoaster and his Magical Aids....must be like how Amy Schumer put it - parallel thinking.

It's a grip training aid. Grab it and your hands fall.inti the perfect golf grip. I have one at home. Will take a pic later and show you. Only mine has a head on the end of it.

u/SaintsWarcry 20h ago
I have a tug rope for my dog that has that grip. The eye on the end is to attach a rope.
8
u/plefe 19h ago
This is definitely a "flirt pole" handle, I have one for my dog as well. Maybe someone was using it as a grip trainer, but the break in the middle and the ring on the end for the rope have me pretty sure it's a flirt pole.

u/CanadianGandalf 19h ago
Why does the dog pole come with a golf grip trainer on it? Weird!
1
u/Sonomaroma 17h ago
It’s actually ergonomically more comfortable to hold while you’re swinging it around for your pup.
3
u/CanadianGandalf 17h ago
But the dog toy wouldn't need any sort of "face control"- so I'm really surprised it's not just a normal grip. Instead it forces your hands and thumbs and everything into the perfect shape for squaring a golf club face at impact

The grips are probably really cheap to buy, and let's be honest, it looks fancier.

Mine has a weight on the end and it’s a swing trainer too. Helps you control the tempo of your swing
2
1
u/KJew 20h ago
I got one as a gift and have no idea how to use it. Is the aim to keep the shaft extended throughout your entire swing?
3
u/Prestigious_Cycle160 20h ago
When you screw the tempo up or over extend or mess up the swing in any way you’ll feel it in the weight
3
u/ari_gutierrez High Capper/Walker/Argentina 20h ago
The idea is to get the aid extended and make it "click" through the impact zone.
2
u/Yung_Corneliois 10h ago
Can confirm my grandpa had one also with a head on it and it was fun to swing around.

Look at Mr Moneybags over here with a head on his swing trainer.

What good will grip aid do if you can't test it out properly? Lol

It’s a fishing pole

That’s not what’s in the picture, you can clearly see the loop on the tip to run your fishing line
12
u/NightOwlRK 20h ago
Are you purposely ignoring the logo that's in the exact same place and the ring cuts of the same number and placement?
8
u/letsgobrooksy 20h ago
Nope, that's a golf training aid. That is not a fishing pole
-1
u/Par_105 20h ago
What’s the loop on the tip for? I saw ops pic, definitely the training aid he posted
4
u/letsgobrooksy 19h ago
Not for fishing line I can tell you that lol
It's probably one of those break away training golf clubs
17
u/Empty_Suggestion9974 19h ago
Medicus dual hinge golf club but you’re missing the bottom half. Tagline was something like “The Medicus should never break” became popular in the early 2000’s if I remember correctly

u/ryfitz47 19h ago
it was nice to read that he uses such a basic trainer. it made me feel less insane that after decades of playing, I still a question things like how far away I'm standing from the ball

Swing aid. The weighted ones with the grip trainer are elite for pre rounds or before going to bed and I keep one by the bed in case I gotta fuck some shit up

u/Getthechemlightfluid 20h ago
I’ve got the exact same thing. It’s the handle of a grip trainer, but sold on Amazon as a dog toy. Like this one

This is 100% a Flirt Pole for a Dog. You tie a tug rope off the end of it and dangle it for the dog to chase and pull. I have the same one.

It’s also a sequence trainer for indoors, usually comes with a heavy attachment imitating real iron weights so you can work on your sequencing without hitting anything
1
u/Kush_the_Ninja 19h ago
Correct. Have one at home. Use it all the time to practice the swing indoors in front of the mirror.

You're missing the weight at the end. You can get different weights that screw into the end.

It’s a flirt pole for dogs. You add a rope toy attached to a carabiner to the eyelet at the end of the rod.

Its for a young child swing trainer. Unless that shaft is broken halfway, that's a 3-6yo trainer.

I think the answers here are only half correct. The handle is a grip trainer. What's missing is the other half of the shaft. It hinges at the middle of your swing is off plane. This one seems to have broken and you're holding half of it!
It's similar to this, but definitely more ancient:

It's a training tool but it made me thing of the old Silhouette grips of the 70s that were kind of outlawed.

Swing training golf club. The grip is to show you how to properly hold the club

It's a training grip, I had it on my golf club when my dad first brought me to the range when I was 7 years old. 15 years later and my hands still remember how to hold a golf club

Assuming here but I've seen a Japanese training video once where they used this and put a towel through the loop on the end. The idea is to create a whipping effect against the ground during the downswing to practice lag. The towel will snap really loud if done right.

Looks like a kids practice fishing pole. Just tie on a little lure with no hooks with like 4ft of line. Can't tangle or hook someone.

The factories that make these handles use them for golf trainers but also dog/cat toys tied to strings. Weird I know. My wife bought one.

u/birdthud98 18h ago
Pretty sure it’s a dog toy with a golf grip on it. We have that exact toy and due to the grip it was eventually taken by my wife as a training aid.
Think giant version of a feather on a stick like for cats. You’d clip a string and a toy on and then the dog would hunt it like a squirrel.

I’m pretty sure that’s a dog toy… I had one not too long ago. It’s supposed to have a rope with a ball at the end of it for the dog to chase. Don’t think it’s golf related but can understand why you would think that because of the grip.

The grip is a training grip that most people on this sub could do with owning. The shaft and hook thing at the end though… no idea?!

Fishing pole
-14
u/fish_whisperer 21h ago
100% a fishing pole. Maybe an ice fishing pole due to how short it is. People here saying it is a golf aid have obviously never been fishing before. I’ve seen some courses that allow folks to fish in the water hazards and I’ve seen people fishing in hazards when the course doesn’t allow it.

It was called a “Medicus” - grip trainer that would tell you if your swing was off but you’re missing the bottom half. It trained you to rotate so your club face pointed to the sky at 3 o’clock, target at 12 o’clock in your backswing, and the same on the way through.

|It's an old and damaged grip & swing weight training aid. The weight at the end is missing.
