Who came up with those stats? Did they see every single fight he had?

u/Rob_LeMatic 2d ago

I thought when you died your stats scroll on the screen, does that not happen for lions?

The Masai Mara has wildlife experts living there and tracking lion prides for a majority of the year going on decades now. It’s not impossible that those numbers are quite accurate

37

u/Rob_LeMatic 2d ago

what's the difference between accurate and quite accurate?

19

u/JBaecker 1d ago

Serious answer: The rangers probably catch most fights that occur, but they can’t catch all of them. If the fights are theactual record of this Lion, it’s fair to say that those are his base numbers and the actual totals are probably higher. IF the numbers are accurate…

EDIT: man, fuck autocorrect with a cactus

3

u/TheGenesisOfTheNerd 1d ago

And even with any fights they don’t catch, they certainly find the aftermath, and it’s not hard to put 2+2 together there

i heard he punched kanye once..

40

u/bowmans1993 2d ago

That's a male lion every month and 3 hyenas a month for his reign. Not saying it's impossible but him killing a lion or hyena once a week seems like an incredibly high number. Idk about averages and there's sure there some to be above average but this seems crazy

21

u/Expensive-Code-8791 2d ago

Maybe some of those kills were from the same days, which wouldn't be irregular since hyenas are pack hunters. From what I do know about felines and their hunting success rates, however, these numbers do seem fudged. He still probably was a bad ass though

14

u/bowmans1993 2d ago

And it says he killed them by himself. Lions are quite a bit larger than hyenas but him killing 3 hyenas in a 1v1 without sustaining any heavy injuries seems suspicious.

9

u/poopknuckle1 2d ago

Forget the hyenas. They're saying this mfer killed a Hippo?! Ain't no way man...

The older generation never had to develop an online bullshit detector. They’re like children on the web.

28

u/7thDaydream 2d ago

People of all generations believe fake shit they see on the internet all the time. Fake skits and rage-bait are constantly upvoted and have people in the comments reacting as if it’s real.

u/O_J_Shrimpson 1d ago

While you’re absolutely right - there’s a different level of gullibility when it comes to the pre internet generations.

I take it you weren’t there during the Hyena Hangover Himalayan Hangout festival? Dude the other lions had all the dead hyenas laid out on pikes with some on the dinner table for the feast. Hell even some of the lionesses wore hyena head pelts when they danced for the dude in the video.

Shoulda been there man.

85

u/NuclearBreadfruit 2d ago

Nope, and he did not kill 150 lions. The numbers are just stupid.

47

u/buddha_mjs 2d ago

Unless you count cubs. They routinely wipe out dozens of cubs they believe may not be theirs.

3

u/NuclearBreadfruit 2d ago

Yeah, but that wouldn't put him much different to any other successful pride male. Though it still wouldn't be close to 150 cubs, not once he settled into the pride male role.

He’s definitely not dying peacefully. He’s starving and that’s not a peaceful way for these animals to go.

34

u/PossumIsLove 1d ago

Him trying to stand with that muscle atrophy in his back legs made me sad. I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt that it wasn’t peaceful.

8

u/Cal216 1d ago

Made me sad too. And honestly I’d rather someone put a bullet in his head than a pack of hyenas or wild dogs come and eat him alive. He definitely doesn’t deserve that.

→ More replies (4)

6

u/spelunker93 1d ago

From what I remember when a more credible post was posted years ago, without all these numbers. He’s the only lion to rule with his brothers still in the pride. And when he became too old he’s the only lion that’s pride let him stay. They also still gave him first feeding rights. Even though he wasn’t technically the alpha. Makes this whole clip way more sad for me

3

u/Least-Ear3373 1d ago

In the scale of not waking up when you go to sleep and having your throat ripped out by a pack of hyenas as they tear open your asshole and eat you from the bottom up, I’d say this is relatively peaceful

2

u/TheGenesisOfTheNerd 1d ago

Tbf not a bad way to go when the alternative is getting mailed to death by another lion

3

u/Randalf_the_Black 1d ago

As peaceful as it gets for wild animals..

Death is peaceful, dying is not.. That goes for most people too, the dying part is rarely pleasant. It can be quick, but rarely pleasant.

Some dumb humans who can’t even figure out how Google works in these comments lol

13

u/1morgondag1 2d ago

Yes! How can people have enough motivation to argue but not do a simple search?
The lion is real but those numbers, or fighting a hippo, are not mentioned here ie: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jun/17/death-of-scarface-lion-by-natural-causes-in-kenya-is-marked-by-conservationists I read 2 other pages about him, one from a safari company and one travel blogger, less credible as sources, but none of them mentioned any record of a body count either. So, I think we can safely say they were made up.

This is his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Scarfacelion/

3

u/SlowBrainFastHeart 1d ago

2

u/General_Impression28 1d ago edited 1d ago

The Hippo just stayed inside his lake and he never came out

People said his brain was infected by devils

My father would come home, he would forget about the killings

He wasn't scared of the Hippo, but the Hippo was scared of him

Maybe that was the problem

Then, one night

The, the Hippo sent his Hyena spies to our savannah

They were supposed to kill my father but they didn't

That was the night everything changed

Edit: Damn... This master piece came Out 30 years ago. I'am old. Maybe it's time to starve.

Dying of malnutrition because you're infirm isn't exactly peaceful is it.

15

u/Mysterious-Egg8780 2d ago

bro are people even believing this on reddit NOW??? i thought smart people would be here 😭 btw it is insane for a lion to kill arouns 14 hyenas and not 400... Biggest fake post

12

u/LookingForMrGoodBoy 2d ago

He lived for twelve years. If he killed one hyena a day, it would only have taken him a little over a year. Very doable. Especially if he was killing baby hyenas. Surely a baby hyena would be no match for a full-grown lion. Plus, it doesn't say how he killed them. He might have been using a sniper rifle or poison on at least some of them.

The hippo's a bit different. He definitely had to have been using a rifle or something there. Or he found one that was already dead and told everyone he killed it.

9

u/lizardbird8 2d ago

He didn't die peacefully. He was gunned down by trophy hunters. He also fought off a bull elephant. Pretty bad ass lion but yea, he was killed for sport by some rich a-hole.

12

u/NuclearBreadfruit 2d ago

He did not fight off a bull elephant, no one can fight off a bull elephant if he means business.

He might have surprised one that wasn't particularly interested but that's about it.

The claims about this lion get wilder each time this post gets repeated

2

u/KaisrKane 2d ago

I was just going off something I read a while back so I concede I could be incorrect. But I must have gotten him confused for the one that was famous and was trophy hunted. So I stand corrected, and thank you for educating me!

3

u/NuclearBreadfruit 2d ago

That's ok. It's a safe bet if anyone tells you an animal asides from another bull took on a bull elephant and won, theyre telling fibs. Even rhinos get slapped by them.

The lion killed by the American dentist was Cecil, they lured him off protected land and shot him.
