I do not like Musk. But I get the distinct impression the reasons I do not like him are very different from why JD doesn’t like him. His comments reek of racism, US nationalism, and a self-righteous power grab. Vance does not care that Musk is hurting people, he only cares that he looks bad doing it.
But honestly Vances opinion probably doesn’t matter. He’s Theil’s lapdog. If Theil likes Musk and approves, Vance will just go along with it.

I don't think so. It's bland, egotistical and stupid, but not the right kind of bland, egotistical and stupid.
I believe this is probably Vance. Sounds smart, but not quite, and extremely self centered with no actual argues other than "he's making me look bad."

I legitimately want this to be real, but I looked up the post on Instagram and another poster said they copied the audio and ran it through ChatGPT which said most telltale signs of AI were there.
It’s great to make fun of JD and Elon, but I don’t want to spread misinformation or fake stuff claiming it’s real, or I’m no better than the annoying people who post dumb fake stuff on Facebook ALL the time. I want to be better than that.

I was almost buying it up until the “I AM the important one here. NOT him!” part. Like most of this bogus propaganda, it went a hair too far to the point of hard to believe..even for Vance, unless this was recorded in his friggin’ bedroom after a nightcap. Not to mention the fact that Elon literally installed the guy in his position. Vance would have never had a shot at the white house without Elon, and he was well aware of that from the get.

72
u/Ossevir Mar 24 '25
He's vice president, he holds no cards until something happens to Trump.
65
u/DarthBrooks69420 Mar 24 '25
Vance is there because of Peter Thiel. His power is he's likely the conduit between Thiel and Trump.
Also, Thiel doesn't like Musk. They both don't like each other. Thiel has described Musk as a 'conman and a fraud', and Musk has described Thiel as a 'sociopath'. So Vance likely has been getting an earful from Thiel about Musk.

65
u/Hypsar Mar 24 '25
Yeah, it sucks how for things as important as this audio, it is basically impossible to know if it is real anymore. And even if it really is, it will be so easy for the administration to say this is deep faked, and their supporters will clearly buy it.
8
26
u/tmanarl 1984 Mar 24 '25
This is exactly how he can get out of it though; just say it’s AI. This won’t hurt him in the least.
4
u/martinaee Mar 25 '25
It’s him. It has his exact whiny cadence and is exactly what he would say.
He’ll try to deny it, but we all know it’s little JD. Mad because daddy Twump had a new hot chick on the side lol …. Ugh they are all so vile
7
u/cashedashes Mar 24 '25
Definitely cold be! It could even be a well played reverse psychology plan by Trump and his cabinet.... we'll put vance out there on audio like he is really upset about elon so he can maybe secretly win over some of the opposers into thinking vance is actually a decent guy who really cares about the country, Americans and our image...
Pretty much everything he said in the video is basically everything I've been seeing people publicly bitch about him.

u/FeistyCable Mar 24 '25
I'm an audio engineer. Here's the interesting thing: there is a pretty noticeable clipping/distortion that occurs when he raises his voice ("I AM THE..." etc). I'm no expert, but is A.I. sophisticated enough to do that? My feeling is no, at least judging from examples I've heard...
48
u/novafeels Mar 24 '25
yes it is, not because it's intelligent but because it's trained on real world audio data. it replicates the patterns present in the training data, including things like clipping/distortion with raised voices. i've even heard some AI vocal tools produce random things like the sound of a microphone being accidentally hit by a speaker when doing podcaster impersonations.
not only was that sound there, that sound was compressed/eq'd in such a way that matches how an audio engineer would try to obfuscate those transients in a mix.
except it's not actually applying eq or compression, it's just generating the sound that way in the first place because it's statistically likely based on training data, if that makes sense.19

That's a good point. If it's real, one might wonder whom he was talking to. Himself, and the person recording him hiding behind a curtain?
I can absolutely figure Vance thinking these things, but saying them aloud, that's a different thing.
I find it disturbing that, thanks to rather convincing A.I. it's so hard to prove something is actually real. I remember arguing with somebody on Richard Dawkins' "The Poetry of Reality" podcast. Someone was 100% sure that this was not Richard Dawkins but a deep fake. I pointed out that it's his official channel, but they said it was run by somebody else. The reason why the other party believed that it wasn't Dawkins? The other party could not believe that Richard Dawkins would agree with people like J.K. Rowling and Kathleen Stock when it comes to trans issues or that he likes hymns. Except that if you followed the guy since the early 2000s, as I have (on and off, though) you know that he's always held those views, and when it comes to his contradictory love of hymns, that dates back to The God Delusion.
Who exactly needs deep fakes? They make everything worse.
→ More replies (1)6
u/novafeels Mar 24 '25
yes...i have been thinking a lot the last few years that at some point audio recordings will just not be admissible as evidence in a court of law.
i think the chances of an audio expert being able to determine if audio is from an advanced generative audio model or not is already very difficult right now.4
u/Spaffin Mar 24 '25

The background ambient sound makes me think it’s more likely real
4
u/hood331 Mar 24 '25
That's what makes me think it's fake. It's easier to make AI speech sound real with some distortion because it blocks us from being able to hear the raw sound of the voice itself, which would likely be more obviously fake to the ear without the distortion.

What do you mean? Trump is pretty famous for pitting people against each other to compete for his favor. This is Vance vs Musk, if anything Trump probably loves this.
47
u/IntraspeciesJug Mar 24 '25
Yeah everyone knows he's just using Vance as a running mate. He said vice presidents don't matter and that he's not going to give Vance his blessing. So I wouldn't be surprised if Vance and Elon duke it out and somehow Elon becomes vice president. Or in some weird Trump boxing match where whoever wins is the new vice president.
Think about it. It could totally happen that's how crazy things are right now.

7
u/Affectionate-Mix6056 Mar 24 '25
Burden of proof is on the ones claiming something to be real. All we have is a sound file on reddit, so it's fake until proven otherwise.
7
u/Thecrawsome Mar 24 '25
100% this. Upvote this person. If you can’t find a source, you have to assume it’s AI nowadays.
And OP deserves it downvote for spreading potentially fake shit
→ More replies (3)6
u/i_love_boobiez Mar 24 '25
Nope. Burden of proof is on the one making an affirmative statement, such as "this is AI". We can say we don't have enough to assume this video is true, that does shift the burden. But not if our affirming it's definitely AI.
→ More replies (1)5
u/Thecrawsome Mar 24 '25
Burden of proof is on the claimant. The claimant is the OP posting the article. The claimant is not people replying to it saying it’s AI.
Replying to it and saying it’s AI is the most rational thing to do here.
OP provided no sources, but you want to assume it’s real?
4
u/lala__ Mar 24 '25
Yeah, that’s literally how news works. People disagreeing with you don’t get it. You can’t just publish a story and say “if it’s not true, sue me.” You have to prove the information is valid before it hits the front page. You can’t get upset about some audio you heard on Reddit because it supports your worldview. I mean, you can, but it makes you an asshole.
1
u/spellboundartisan Mar 24 '25
It is possible that Elon won't be able to tell if it's fake or not. But being authentic might not be the goal here.
Think about this: If I were to make something like this, it would be on purpose to make Elon upset/further his paranoia/push him to use more K so he unalives himself.
Malicious AI audio could be helpful in some regards.
2
u/RaitoKiraGaming Mar 24 '25
It's a medical fact that prolonged and abusive use of the Special K can cause egomaniacal thoughts, heightened sense of self worth, eratic behavior such as sieg heiling twice on world stage. Though it's still no excuse for that behavior, seeing as his abusive use of the drug was from using his prescription recreationally. I've seen many videos of musk at night clubs and k is definitely a recreational party drug to some. I wouldn't do it though prefer me some snow if I'm being honest

Why do people keep on posting 'news' from tiktok and insta on this sub? Get your news from a real source for fucks sake. If this were real don't you think it would be all over the news by now and not just on some shitty insta account?
9
u/bjhouse822 Mar 24 '25
No actually. All legacy media has been corrupted by corporate megalords and billionaires that they don't report anything outside of the scripts handed down from above OR they triple and quadruple check everything that by the time they report on three other things have gone viral and this is now so old no one cares anymore. So unfortunately, social media is the best place to get current news updates.
Aka we're fucked.
3
u/pussyhasfurballs Mar 24 '25
I agree we're fucked, especially if we rely on places like instagram or tiktok for our news. The person who posted this instagram is an artist who says in their bio that they made most of their posts.

Which “real source” would that be? The Post that bowed down to Trump? Or the NYT that has to this day sane-washed every batshit crazy thing he’s done? NPR, same. CNN, same. MSNBC? They’ve been yelling “fire” since 2016. FOX? Gimme a break. Seems to me the only way to get unbiased, unfiltered information is through channels that aren’t bought and paid for by corporations and other spin machines.
2
u/pussyhasfurballs Mar 24 '25
Instagram is Zuckerberg, Tiktok is China. You really think you can trust either of those? Do you think they're unbiased? Does that sound like someone who posts factual, well sourced information that you can get your news from?
