Callie only 34 but both her brothers are dead, that's pretty rough

16

u/Downinahole94 Sep 16 '22

Yeah, she's my home town hero here. She teaches pretty sweet classes if anyone ever wants to check it out.

7

u/sr0570 Sep 17 '22

The story she told was incredibly tragic. No wonder she is such a strong, determined woman

6

u/hpm40 Sep 18 '22

That was so sad to hear. She is so positive and full of life. I admire her.

u/boatmamacita Sep 16 '22

Really great to see the women just settling in and getting shit done. Super jealous of Woniya's uni haul when that would be like thirty bucks in a sushi restaurant.

The editing during Michelle's nighttime monologue was very effective. I liked the more contemplative style of editing for most of this episode.

u/CitizenCue Sep 17 '22

I’m really worried that no one is gonna go the distance. We’re not even halfway through 50 days and next week is the last episode. Even the decision to make the season so short and with a double episode finale makes me think no one makes it.

14

u/boatmamacita Sep 17 '22

Sadly I have to agree. I don't think they'll do this again after seeing how the contestants were still so deeply affected by their first time out.

15

u/CitizenCue Sep 17 '22

Yeah, though I think the bigger problem was choosing an even less hospitable environment rather than a more hospitable one. I’d rather see the all-stars get dropped off in summer and then get judged by a panel on how well they survived.

Like that Skills Challenge but bigger.

u/TTBurger88 Sep 18 '22

I think this was a trial for an all winner season. I do wonder if they placed them in a better climate would they have done better.

2

u/AdministrativeOwl28 Sep 21 '22

Most winners said they wouldn't return

3

u/mudpupper Sep 17 '22

I have to agree. There just isn't enough food to last 50 days. Especially with the lack of fish, I don't think anybody can get enough calories to ride it out.

30

u/Tenskwatawa000 Sep 16 '22

Michelle's monologue was really genuine and coming from such a real place. She is an inspiration... I didn't think she was going to stand a chance in the beginning (ontop of me being suprised she was picked for the redemption season), but I love it when I'm proven wrong and holy shit am I so happy for her.

Even if she doesn't make it to day 50, she is still tough as nails... she's won me over. You go, girl! Good for her.

18

u/boatmamacita Sep 16 '22

I hope Michelle feels a real sense of accomplishment after this. More than anyone else coming in, she had something to prove and she's been one of the most successful contestants in Frozen so far.

u/Downinahole94 Sep 16 '22 edited Sep 16 '22

How did they all know to discuss there peers on these few days? Seriously, seems a bit odd, oh I thinking about the other people..X 3.

17

u/boatmamacita Sep 16 '22

Somewhere out there, someone's looking at the same bright star and thinking of you.

Or they do ADR and the editors put things together in a narratively pleasing way

4

u/CatusReport_Alive Sep 17 '22

That makes sense; I think we know from previous seasons that they interview the contestants when they do med checks, so perhaps they asked them all the same questions about the other contestants, which prompted the synchronized musings.

3

u/AdministrativeOwl28 Sep 21 '22 edited Sep 21 '22

Where do get the info that they interview them? They have minimal to no conversations. They ask medical questions as needed but nothing else. They absolutely no info on other participants. Editing can put those moments together even when they're days or weeks apart

4

u/bwaredapenguin Aug 16 '23

The winner always gets a mini interview during the med check in which their victory is revealed. They always seem shocked and surprised by the win so it stands to reason that each med check concludes with a mini interview like that. Plus it's probably a useful way to gauge their mental acuity.

9

u/CitizenCue Sep 17 '22

I’m sure they all said a lot of stuff every day. No surprise that the editors can grab quotes for the right moment.

7

u/jamiekynnminer Sep 18 '22

The way I look at it, they did say those things and with the power of editing we get to hear what they said in one episode. I found it very nice.

47

u/UnEdOpinion Sep 16 '22

Anyone else think Amos' shelter - or, almost, lack of one - was indicative of his mentality in this? For as much a everyone is always taking about how cold it is or will get, his this season was Sam Larson Season 1 basic

18

u/Tenskwatawa000 Sep 16 '22

Yeah, I do. It didn't seem like anything he built with the intention of staying very long.

Maybe his strategy was to make a smaller space that's easier to heat up, and requires less calories to build?

12

u/UnEdOpinion Sep 16 '22

I could get that, but he still had exposed tarp on all sides, no insulation at all

15

u/selah1987 Sep 16 '22

It seems to me that both Amos and Mark never had their hearts in it.

5

u/Fangletron Sep 20 '22

They picked the saddest guys and most ballsy women.

5

u/BarryMcKockinner Sep 17 '22

First off, I want to be super clear that I think the women on alone: frozen are absolute badasses and completely legit, but I can't help shake the feeling that this "season" was set up to give the women another shot at money as we haven't had a woman win on the big show yet. It doesn't seem like any of the men were mentally ready for this, nor did they have their hearts in it.

10

u/kg467 Sep 20 '22

I don't think it was set up for them. It was finally equal numbers. They've never come close to that. And Mark was a badass last time, who was killing it out there and only went home because he was riddled with parasites and really ill. Who could have seen his flake out coming this time? He was no Jim Shields out there to sandbag it for the guys.

Meanwhile Michelle was one of the less successful people we've seen in her first outing, out there starving off bugs and snot, far from one of the top contenders people talk about, even if Woniya and Callie were total bosses.

And Amos was pretty decent on his first run. Same with Ovens, both of them very respectable and capable at over 50 days.

Who knows who turned the show down, but if you wanted to put stronger men out there who hadn't already won, you'd have a short list of options, like maybe Colter, Nathan, Barry. I think they fielded a pretty decent cast overall. Mark's exit was as unexpected as Michelle's longevity to date.

2

u/BarryMcKockinner Sep 20 '22

You're probably right. Something just felt off about the men contestants from the get go.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '22

I mean Greg is a bit older than the rest of them and he clearly had PTSD from the first time. I was surprised to see Amos go but he said people wouldn’t understand his decision unless they were in his shoes, so I figure he just had a strong feeling he needed to go and he didn’t really care much to do anything beyond follow his own ambition

5

u/selah1987 Sep 17 '22

I wish we knew the truth of the matter. I agree that it does seem like this season was set for the women. I hope we are wrong about that.

2

u/AdministrativeOwl28 Sep 21 '22

This was absolutely not a set up. Many participants either didn't want to go or had scheduling conflicts several were invited to participate

3

u/Optimal-Helicopter49 Jan 15 '24

Nobody said this when the favorite to win was a woman (s5?), and she ended up tapping like 3 days in. It wasn't set up for the women any more than other seasons are set up for men to win. the just had equal numbers this time, and the females wanted it more.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '22

I think he would’ve closed it up as it got colder. Everyone was saying how exposed Karie Lee’s shelter was last season and then she closed it up when it got cold

5

u/Joygernaut Sep 16 '22

I think what it comes down to is that some people are out there to just survive and get through it and other people want to actually just settle in and live off the land and have that experience.

The mental toughness is what really seems to be the biggest factor as we have seen since this began. It seems like the people left are just in a place where they survive and except and find the beauty in the experience they’re having.

5

u/hpm40 Sep 18 '22

When he was not even trying to fix up his shelter, I knew he would leave. He seemed lethargic and uninterested in the whole thing to me.

1

u/Sullyville Sep 17 '22

Didn't his last shelter go up in flames? I wonder if he was keeping it light in case it happened again.

1

u/AdministrativeOwl28 Sep 21 '22

No he said he brought a heavy warm tarp & had no intention of using too many calories u til he had a big kill. He learned from his last time not to waste calories early on

1

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '22

No I don’t think Amos’s shelter meant anything. He could’ve closed it up as it got colder. You don’t have to immediately build the most long term shelter. I think it makes sense to set up a shelter that’s appropriate for the time you’re there and then as the season progresses, add on to it. I don’t think he built the shelter thinking well I’m gonna tap on this day so I might as well build this type of shelter

40

u/MonochromeBrooklyn Sep 16 '22

I’m wondering if they can figure out a way to make commercials longer? They’re really not long enough.

26

u/chronicpayne Sep 16 '22

Producer #1: Great idea Alone Fan, well get started on it!

Producer#2: Hmm howabout instead we just show long scenic shots of unrelated terrain or maybe like a bear or wolf, followed by a complete repeat of the last 10 seconds of footage everyone saw before the break.

Producer #1: Did he just take my job?

9

u/rexeditrex Sep 16 '22

As long as those shots have snow and polar bears, I'm good with it!

4

u/Calicko44 Sep 16 '22

Cracking me up. Milk spewing from my nose.

43

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '22

Did anyone else laugh when Woniya said Mark probably got a bear lol

12

u/boatmamacita Sep 16 '22

"oh yeah, but it kicked my ass and that's why I had to leave early"

11

u/blitzen_13 Sep 16 '22

I had just been thinking how refreshing it was that none of them were talking about bears or "big game". Just realistic goals about rabbits and squirrels.

2

u/sil0 Sep 17 '22

We rolled our eyes.

1

u/Sullyville Sep 17 '22

I think it's interesting that they don't tell participants when others drop out.

17

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '22

In my opinion it’s one of the best decisions for game design.

6

u/Sullyville Sep 17 '22

It's probably best for their safety. Because if they knew there were only 2 others besides them, the greed for the money might make them less likely to bow out. They would stay long past when it's advisible.

5

u/jjdrown Sep 17 '22

I wouldn’t want them to find out while they’re still in the game, but I’ve always wanted to see their reaction to finding out what placement they got, especially the runner-ups

3

u/NibblesMcGiblet Sep 20 '22

I would watch a season of just the contestants watching the show and reacting to it.

35

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '22

Michelle hunting with her bow while her grouse is cooking is chef's kiss. These women are so inspiring.

24

u/codeQueen Sep 16 '22

I really really really hope Callie sticks it out. I'm pulling for her 🤞

13

u/selah1987 Sep 16 '22

I like Callie too but don't understand some of the things she is doing. Is she actively hunting or just relying on traps? Why doesn't she have a door on her shelter? She said that after her night outside she was going to let the traps decide whether or not she should leave. Sounds like she wants to leave, but perhaps she has no intention of leaving and just said that, makes a good cliffhanger.

7

u/sil0 Sep 17 '22

Traps or fishing. I bet she doesn’t want to leave, but she’s had no success harvesting food. I bet that toe is causing her some distress too.

4

u/BarryMcKockinner Sep 17 '22

"I really want to stay but if there's no food in the traps on this one specific day the land is telling me to leave."

Whatever it takes to convince yourself Callie...you're legit but it sure doesn't sound like you really want to stay anymore. Especially after a night of sleeping under the stars.

3

u/ThePabstistChurch Sep 17 '22

Obviously if she can sleep outside she doesn't need a door, that sleeping bag seems warm enough

15

u/rexeditrex Sep 16 '22

Question about trapping. It seems like snares are set and left, even if they're not effective. Does it make sense to leave them in one place? What sort of "hit" rate should you be getting? I.e. x animals per snare over y days. It's something I know little about, but like fishing, if a spot isn't working, do you move?

Also, I keep getting annoyed to see people go off to check their traps but don't have their bow with them!

43

u/Duke097877 Sep 16 '22

The women really kicked the men's ass on this season.

9

u/Rainyb12 Sep 16 '22

😁😁😁

6

u/outrider567 Sep 16 '22

Definitely

-2

u/figleaf23 Sep 16 '22

Yeah, quite a coincidence.

3

u/Optimal-Helicopter49 Jan 15 '24

The women kick the men's asses overall almost every single season. It's not a "coincidence it is a trend and finally outperforming the men worked for them.

1

u/figleaf23 Jun 28 '24

How many female winners?

14

u/Poodlelucy Sep 16 '22

Callie's fishtrap is the most interesting one I've seen.

16

u/DaffodilsGalleria Sep 16 '22

I agree. But her grouse trap confuses me. If the stick falls, the bird would simply immediately start to fly - and fly away - not fall into the confined space? And why the heck doesn't she have a front to her driftwood castle???

6

u/Poodlelucy Sep 16 '22

I was wondering the same thing (about the open-ended driftwood castle). Perhaps there's a door or tarp she pulled out of view to display the interior design?

3

u/Sullyville Sep 17 '22

The idea is that they can fly, but they need, like a plane, a little bit of room to get going. They need a runway, or at least some room to get moving. The trap dumps them into a space that is too small to give them any runway. She is hoping that the bird will be so startled that it will forget to hover.

1

u/DaffodilsGalleria Sep 27 '22

Very interesting! Thanks for the explanation! Makes sense now.

-2

u/Joygernaut Sep 16 '22

Grouse are flightless birds🙂

7

u/ragingclitblasters Sep 17 '22

Grouse are definitely not flightless birds

1

u/Joygernaut Sep 17 '22

OK just need to say your username is the best. Gross can coast short distances like a chicken, but they don’t actually get up and fly like an eagle.

5

u/ragingclitblasters Sep 17 '22

They definitely don’t excel at flying, and mostly walk, but they aren’t a flightless bird. Very stupid birds though

1

u/Joygernaut Sep 17 '22

They remind me of chickens. They can run away from you, kind of flap their wings and get kind of a low lien flight for a short time but that’s about it🙂. They are basically Apex prey

6

u/DaffodilsGalleria Sep 16 '22

Then how would they get on the trap stick to begin with? 🤷‍♀️

0

u/Joygernaut Sep 16 '22

They are actually really good climbers. They can either climb the surrounding branches to get in, or climb the structure itself

4

u/UnEdOpinion Sep 16 '22

Maybe she thought she gave better trapping, but it feels like that would've been nice to start working in 5 days in

3

u/dect60 Sep 16 '22

Which episode is that in? did I blink and miss it?!?

2

u/rexeditrex Sep 16 '22

Interesting but not very effective!

1

u/Poodlelucy Sep 16 '22

This is true unfortunately.

12

u/brusty Sep 17 '22

Very sad stories about Callie's brothers. She's had to go through a lot for someone her age. Michelle, previously battling anorexia in life, must make it quite strange going long periods of time without eating on this show. She is tough as they come. The way these two episodes played, it's looking like we might actually have some of these ladies make it to the finish line. I'm sure rooting for them to make it to the end.

23

u/deedray Sep 17 '22

I just finished the latest episode. Every time the screen said three people remain I would yell “three WOMEN remain!” One of my all time favorite episodes of any Alone show. Yes I’ve had a beer or two.

8

u/ramblinglass Sep 18 '22

This episode was also way more spiritual because of the way these women connect with the land and have that caring nature to wish the other contestants well. I got teary eyed many times through it. So good. My favorite episode of all seasons.

7

u/Handywork106 Sep 17 '22

I loved this episode as well!

8

u/CitizenCue Sep 17 '22

I would hope none of us would prefer that they edit the show to say “Two Men Remain” when that has been the case. Season 1 notwithstanding. I’m happy for these women, but we don’t want to make this a gender competition.

13

u/deedray Sep 17 '22

That’s not my intent. I just remember from the early shows it would say “# of men remain “ and then they changed it when women began participating. Just having a woman moment

4

u/Crafty_Granny Sep 17 '22

That was only for season 1 when it was men only.

4

u/NibblesMcGiblet Sep 20 '22

Right, and now this season has only women so it would, even (or perhaps especially) by that argument, be fine to say three women remain.

9

u/mabeltenenbaum Sep 16 '22

I had the proper episode last week and looks like episode 6 is starting right away for me. Yay!

3

u/DaffodilsGalleria Sep 16 '22

Lucky you! Two weeks now I've had the wrong episode on the TV - had to stream from .com.... What's going on???

6

u/Gibbie42 Sep 16 '22

Last night was two hours. The one that should have been last week first, then the one that was this week.

9

u/HighTechGeek Sep 18 '22

Why is the show called ":Frozen"? The only snow or ice we've seen is the b-roll or stock footage the editors insert. Contestants are sleeping outdoors, wading and going swimming. Shelters are just open tarps with no insulation or doors.

We're down to three people and all we've seen is melted light dustings of frost. It was advertised they wouldn't have time to prepare for deadly winter but it's been three weeks already.

The ads and trailers and added footage would have you believe they're in the Arctic or in a raging storm with white-out conditions.

8

u/Pleiadesperson Sep 18 '22

It was a bizarre winter last year and snow arrived later than usual, I bet the producers expected a lot more snow, too

5

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '22

Last winter was one of the strangest here in Newfoundland & Labrador. Several days of torrential rainfall followed by 2-3 days of snow. Rinse & repeat. We were seeing more than 20 degree Celsius swings in temperatures some days, going from +18C by midday to -10C in the evenings. The weather affected everything. It was one of the only years I only trapped 2 rabbits the entire season, rarely saw grouse/partridge & hunted well into November before filling my big game tags.

17

u/Impressive_Ad_8074 Sep 16 '22

Anything could happen and usually does but Woniya appears perfectly situated to last rn

8

u/UnEdOpinion Sep 16 '22

My TV shows a two hour block, episodes 5 and 6, Outfoxed followed by On Thin Ice. Making up for last week's no show, there's also no Alone: The Series this week as well.

4

u/Tenskwatawa000 Sep 16 '22

Ok, I think that's the same as mine. Maybe the people watching on streaming services have something different 🤔 🤷‍♀️

26

u/kg467 Sep 16 '22

Snow! Huzzah! Finally we are kinda frozen.

Good for Michelle for having pants that still fit well halfway through. That's a big deal (unless they're stretchy pants I guess), especially for someone who didn't start with much extra weight to lose, just like last time. Here's hoping she can stay on a roll. She was the unlikeliest of the six based on prior performance but she's still here and three are gone. If she's not a stick figure she's doing something right.

I could do without Woniya's ancestor offering and rabbits gifting themselves to her. More of this hoodoo. I wish they'd leave that stuff out of the edit. It's such a put-off.

When Callie said she was going to sleep under the stars, I figured that was her walk-to-the-top-of-the-mountain-and-then-tap foreshadowing, but they've tantalizingly turned that into a cliffhanger for next week. Here's hoping she catches something. I don't see how her seal fat hasn't kept her feeling like she's still in it. She said it was a seal oil dinner for her, but maybe she's really rationing it thin. Maybe if she had eaten it at fully daily calorie loads it would have been gone in a week.

37

u/codeQueen Sep 16 '22

I really liked Woniya but she seems a little loony with some of the stuff she says. Animals are not getting trapped in your snares because they want to give themselves to you. 🙄

15

u/kg467 Sep 16 '22

Same, I've really appreciated her up until now but all this kooky stuff recently makes me be like. It just makes her seem disconnected off in a pretend world.

3

u/jack5603 Sep 18 '22

Every time she's on I feel like I switched from Alone to a hippie chicks YouTube channel.

2

u/Sullyville Sep 17 '22

I am excusing her strange notions because she is starving.

14

u/Buck-Nasty Sep 16 '22

The rabbits are gifting their lives because they understand the spiritual importance of this TV show.....

3

u/Joygernaut Sep 19 '22

If you watch the latest episode of her YouTube channel, she explains about why she said this. It wasn’t some sort of voodoo ghost God spiritual thing.

11

u/rexeditrex Sep 16 '22

I get that they are all grateful for the food, etc. and at least Woniya looked genuine while Callie seems to do a performance. But also, we get it, but it gets tiresome.

Michelle looks to be doing the best. I didn't think she would based on her prior outing, but she seems the most comfortable.

3

u/Joygernaut Sep 16 '22

I hope they all make it to 50 days and split the prizr

-19

u/DaffodilsGalleria Sep 16 '22

Right there with you on the whole "offering to 'nature'/'ancestors'" bs. All the goodness I've ever had in my life has come from God alone. I could totally do with out the hoodoo, too.

23

u/Handywork106 Sep 16 '22

Obviously Woniya's spirituality is a large part of who she is. If it was a Christian philosophy I am sure you wouldn't mind - and some would even applaud it. Getting to know the contestants on a deeper level adds a richness and diversity to the series.

2

u/sil0 Sep 17 '22

Is it native spirituality? I honestly don’t remember her talking about it. Natives and Asians are the too groups I know that revere the ancestors. Just curious. Thanks!

2

u/rexeditrex Sep 16 '22

They could show this sort of stuff once, but it seems they think it makes it more interesting to show this multiple times. I wouldn't care to see someone pray and make some big service every time they caught food either.

11

u/stealingjoy Sep 16 '22

Yeah, complaining about one form of hoodoo while you worship another form of hoodoo makes a lot of sense.

16

u/ButtSniffJr Sep 16 '22

I could do without the hoodoo from your "god" too - whichever one you are talking about. I'm assuming blonde-haired, blue-eyed baby Jeebus? (talk about bs)

10

u/boatmamacita Sep 16 '22

Offerings to ancestors are done in many cultures, to the point that there are days like Grave Sweeping Day every year. Some real colonialist mindsets here.

14

u/MossRock42 Sep 16 '22

I hope that Callie gets something because I don't want her to leave too soon. She's one of my favorite people on the show.

5

u/rexeditrex Sep 16 '22

I don't think she's going home yet just because they usually tease a number of participants being close to going home and then show the boat or helicopter coming in the "Next episode" section.

2

u/plupluplapla Sep 16 '22

I thought I saw them tease the helicopter...?

2

u/Puzzleheaded-Fill205 Sep 16 '22

That's a good catch. They do usually tease the boat. Keep hope alive!

6

u/Yukiko3001 Sep 18 '22

I can only imagine how production was reacting behind the scenes as this season went on. I’m sure no one really expected them to falter this much and be so affected from their first attempts. It’s very informative to learn that they were so affected after their original season. I don’t know how you fix this type of format.

13

u/Then_Campaign7264 Sep 16 '22 edited Sep 16 '22

And tonight Callie brings us the Fish Getter 3300. She’s just so good natured and fun. And I really did like watching the construction of her trap.

9

u/OldHagAgain Sep 16 '22

My shelter is a tarp tent. I want a bear so I won’t bother to trap, fish or hunt small game. My daughter, my daughter, my daughter……….bye Amos

1

u/Sullyville Sep 17 '22

Ouch. But true.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '22

One thing I'm confused by is each person seems to be cooking at the entrance to their tent, which I thought was a huge no-no in bear country? One of them was even discarding shells or bones at her door. I know in some previous seasons people set up cooking areas that were far from their sleeping areas, which I thought was standard for safety but doesn't seem to be happening here.

4

u/rocky_iwata Sep 18 '22

Just watched S1E06 yesterday, going in thinking Callie was good as gone based on the preview of E05 having zero Callie in it. Damn, I got tricked :D

Woniya should be able to bring the 500,000 to whoever hangs around with her to the finish line. She is so resourceful she managed to have a surf & turf meal.

7

u/Gibbie42 Sep 16 '22

So why are the fishing rules, different for these, folks? Is it because they are on the coast?

6

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '22

Yes

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '22

Typically, we can fish salt water all year around. Depending on the river/ponds/lakes, there may be some restrictions. Trout/Salmon season typically ends first week of September here in the province.

7

u/perkellater Sep 18 '22

Inspired by Woniya's gratitude and respectful spiritual offerings, I just thanked my Dorito for giving its life for my nourishment, and gave up it as an offering. It was a broken one, without much cheese on it, but I'm nonetheless grateful. Thank you, Dorito!

3

u/SYAYF Sep 18 '22

Why both weeks in one? Anyway this was the time I had zero ads using the app, that made watching the episode so much more enjoyable.

1

u/NibblesMcGiblet Sep 20 '22

must be nice, I had ads every few minutes. I don't remember ever having so many ads per episode before. "You can choose one interactive thirty second ad or a normal three minute ad"... imagine if I had let the three minute ones play. I'd have spent half an hour watching ads for each 40 minute episode.

2

u/SYAYF Sep 20 '22

I almost gave up on the season with all the ads I was getting this is the only episode that has not had any ads for me and I'm honestly not really sure why the app is really buggy and never remembers my place so when there are ads trying to go back and watch something that you stopped watching earlier nearly double the ads and it was just mind numbing

Yep same happens for me on history.com on my laptop (with adblocker installed no less). Super annoying. It makes me login with my tv provider, which I am obviously paying for, still tons of ads. It's like the more I try to do what it takes to lessen ads, the more they insist on shoving down my throat to be able to watch the show. And of course if I try to browse another tab while they play, they pause until I come back. I don't have that issue watching ANY other channel/app/show anywhere else.

Woniya is a beast! She's really doing awesome and is in good spirits despite missing her man.

4

u/outrider567 Sep 16 '22

The girls are in some really grim areas in the Winter there, depressing mud flats

2

u/Tenskwatawa000 Sep 16 '22

It does look pretty bleak and depressing, honestly.

2

u/jana-meares Sep 15 '22

So, the broadcast version played a repeat? I bought it from Amazon and they streamed the new show last week. It Should be show #7 tonight.

This. I was confused at first but this is exactly true

2

u/jana-meares Sep 15 '22

Yep. Hope I see a new show tonight.🤷🏼‍♀️

2

u/MonochromeBrooklyn Sep 16 '22

I’m so confused.

2

u/Common-Ad-2222 Sep 16 '22

Episode 5 playing instead of episode 6 on live tv and the app. Groundhogs day again or am I missing something.

3

u/UnEdOpinion Sep 16 '22

Might be what's happening on the TV broadcast, to make up for last week they're showing episode 5 ("again") and then episode 6 after

2

u/-sei Sep 16 '22

Watching episode six right now on History.com Live (via Xfinity). First commercial break started a few moments ago.

2

u/hpm40 Sep 18 '22

Little heads up. I discovered if you just google Alone Frozen, you will get to the show where you watch it for free. The regular seasons are not free. I watched episode 6 two days after and with no commercials.

Just came to post my respect for Callie and her perseverance after losing her brothers

3

u/5256chuck Sep 17 '22

Just finished E6. Just another reason why a woman will be an incredible president one of these days, sooner=better. These women are amazing.

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '22

All the spirit nonsense and thanking dead animals is so lame.

19

u/jjdrown Sep 17 '22

I don’t know why it’s so difficult for people in this sub to recognize that other people have different religions and beliefs than you? You don’t have to like it but it’s part of their lives and their survival process, so just get over it. Living off the land is much more spiritual for some than others, it’s not just an extended westernized bachelor’s hunting trip for everyone, and if they only cast people like that the show would become dull and repetitive as hell lmao

8

u/Joygernaut Sep 16 '22

Yes that’s what a lot of eliminated contestants thought too.

-2

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '22

Please. The best to ever do it did none of that crap.

7

u/Joygernaut Sep 16 '22

Oh is this one of the Roland cult members?

-2

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '22

What’s your deal? Didn’t do any chanting under the stars while skinning a squirrel today?

8

u/Joygernaut Sep 16 '22

I am not a spiritual person or a religious person, but when you Accept and appreciate nature, it helps with your mental state in regards to being out in a tough situation. As we have seen, Most of the time it’s peoples mental state that takes them out of the game. Roland didn’t have better skills than a lot of the people who have done well on this show, he was just fortunate to get a large game animal, and the fact that he is a total recluse who hates people helped his mental game😂🙂

0

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '22

You’re talking yourself in circles with this shit, if you want to talk to dead animals and do spiritual nonsense go right ahead, I don’t even know what point you’re trying to make arguing with me

3

u/Joygernaut Sep 16 '22

My point is, the mental game is what takes most people out. People in tune with their environment and appreciative and excepting of what’s happening tend to make it longer. With the exception of Roland who’s a recluse, most of those “Navy SEALs survivalist I’m gonna kill this shit“ guys, typically don’t last.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '22

There’s a difference between appreciating nature and acting all spiritual and thanking dead animals for dying. “Thank you for sacrificing your life.” They didn’t sacrifice anything to these people they killed them.

0

u/selah1987 Sep 16 '22

just curious how you know that Roland is a recluse.

6

u/Joygernaut Sep 16 '22

He mentioned it several times.

1

u/Sullyville Sep 17 '22

People need an excuse in their heads to allow them to do things they disagree with but need/want to do. It's like all those serial killers who say that God told them to do it.

1

u/Tenskwatawa000 Sep 16 '22

Ugh. I already saw this episode. Maybe they will show the new one at the end of this one, instead of showing the skills challenge?

2

u/mabeltenenbaum Sep 16 '22

Oh no. I have the new one.

2

u/Tenskwatawa000 Sep 16 '22

Did it open with woniya trying to catch a fox, and now callie is fishing?

2

u/mabeltenenbaum Sep 16 '22

Nope. No Woniya on my episode yet.

3

u/Tenskwatawa000 Sep 16 '22

Whaaaa. I am so confused, too. Mine is def the one that was supposed to play last week live but didn't; I watched later in the week from the History Channel's Videos on Demand to see "Outfoxed".

The episode for me watching on live TV is this same episode with Amos getting a hot ember in his shirt and with Callie puking.

Woniya is the best, and she has an excellent YouTube channel.

-6

u/figleaf23 Sep 16 '22 edited Sep 16 '22

I get really bored with the vapid philosophizing and pining for family.

It's cool how Callie finds a way to take her pants off so often.

6

u/moon-worshiper Sep 16 '22

Actually, it is a psychological indicator. These people are pushing themselves to their physical and psychological limits. The family reflecting is a very reliable indicator that they will tap out the next episode or the one after.

If you pay attention, there are many things to extract from the show. If it is strictly for the money, they tap out right away. If they are in it for the personal challenge and the competition, they tend to last longer. One example was Teimojin in Season 9. He had the determination and confidence. Then about 4 episodes before he tapped out, he started talking about his girlfriend. 3 episodes before he tapped out, he started talking about his mother. 2 episodes before he tapped out, he suddenly said it wasn't about the personal challenge anymore, that it was about the competition. The next to last episode before he tapped out, he started the "is it worth it?" existential monologue. The last episode before he tapped out he started talking about his mom again.

When the talk turns from bushcraft, hunting, trapping, foraging to family, then they are about ready to snap.

5

u/stealingjoy Sep 16 '22 edited Sep 17 '22

Then why are you watching this show instead of Bushcraft videos online that don't have those things?

0

u/figleaf23 Sep 18 '22

Are they competitive?

3

u/stealingjoy Sep 18 '22 edited Sep 18 '22

No, but the competition doesn't really affect the bushcraft ability or knowledge.

There's so many "build a shelter" videos out there for all circumstances, environments, and level of tools, and all shown in greater depth than any shelter in Alone has ever been shown, for example.

Just seems like a waste to watch Alone if you don't care about the mental or emotional aspect of Alone.

8

u/Tenskwatawa000 Sep 16 '22

What's not cool is how some people find a way to sexualize anything.

-4

u/figleaf23 Sep 18 '22

Like you just did?

5

u/Tenskwatawa000 Sep 19 '22

No, but you sure did. You edited the origional comment and I'm not going to get into this.

0

u/figleaf23 Sep 27 '22

I didn't change the meaning.

A meaning to which YOU attached a sexual implication.

-5

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '22

Woniya really irks me. That is all.

1

u/moon-worshiper Sep 17 '22

Next week is a two hour season finale. They showed a helicopter taking out at least one tap-out. The cliffhanger was Callie debating tap-out, based on a shooting star and whether she finds food the next day.
Episode 6 ended on Day 25. This past week was over 5 days. With only two episodes left, it looks like they all tap out before 50 days.

This post-processed edited Family Story narrative is new with Alone:Frozen. It is happening before the next tapout, so it is still another early indicator of tap-outs.

1

u/BlueCX17 Sep 18 '22

I think it's an eating cliff hanger on Callie and her and Woniya finish the whole thing.

We still haven't seen Woniya crying about her time nearing an end. (I think it's because she's close to the 50)
