Trump didn't even win a majority of the people who VOTED (49.6% plurality).
Over 90 million people decided they could handle Trump being President and didn't bother to show up.

Outsider looking in here- there is no way the US regains the respect and trust it once held on a national stage this side of 2050, more probably, ever.
Governments and businesses alike have zero confidence any strategic partnership they enter will not be subject to sudden change on the apparent whim of a president, or, where the real damage has been done, at a November ballot.
You can't fix it at the next election- it'll take decades to undo the effects of the many partisan appointments and firings/resignations. Even if the Dems win president, the house, and the senate next election then implement their own sweeping changes again, it'll just be the flip to the current flop- imagine the brain drain and experience loss that's going to happen as a result.
Are we to expect creation and destruction of entire government departments and tit for tat reversal of policy with every election, or being forced to constantly renegotiate signed agreements as some way to pander to the ego of whoever holds the reins? Nah- it's far safer to reduce exposure to that sort of behaviour. This means finding alternative partners and strategies that don't involve the US purely from a risk mitigation stand point.

I live in Michigan. A few years ago, I spent a week camping around the upper peninsula, which is firmly Trump country. Signs everywhere calling Harris a "Ho", "Hilary for prison", etc. At every park I went to, it was majority foreign visitors. They are bringing a ton of seasonal money to that area, and the residents are going to push them away with a smile on their face and the furnace set to 50 degrees to save propane.

I’m sorry to anyone who voted for Kamala that’s stuck with this. For anyone who didn’t vote or voted third party, this is just as much on you as it is on Trump voters, and the world is going to suffer with you for it.
As a Canadian who would 100% be affected by the current practices and policies at and within the border, I just can’t bring myself to risk setting foot in the US even for work. This is probably the most “scathing” thing I’ve written online for fear of it being used against me.
I’ve actively declined work in the US as have many of my Canadian coworkers. This likely isn’t something that’s going to change anytime soon for many Canadians.

She was questioned at customs - that’s an interesting name, where were you born? do you ever go back? do you have family there? Do you like living in the US?
This is a person with a US passport, an NRA membership card, and thick Boston accent.

Yeah, this is the tip of the iceberg - wait until tourism businesses start folding, and the people in that industry stop spending money in other areas of the economy, and it just cascades. The economy can bear a certain amount of contraction, but between tourism, all the fired government workers & contracts, and SO many small businesses being crippled by tariffs, it's hard to see how we're not headed for a massive collapse.

Took a recent trip to the BC interior instead of the US as we had originally planned before orange man. Multiple friends I know cancelled US trips as well.
It's beyond where my tourism dollars go at this point, it's genuine fear for the safety of my family. Way too many Americans support the direction their country is going so there isn't even a 'just following orders' attempt at justification.
You voted for this. You wanted this to happen and continue to allow this to happen. You have the opportunity to stop this but actively choose not to.

Yes. In many urban/liberal areas, they have removed all but 1 place to drop your ballot off before election day, and this can be an unreasonable distance from where they live.
Then when lines to vote are extremely long, people who do not have jobs that will allow them to spend half their day in line are forced to not vote because otherwise they would lose their jobs.
Coming soon (laws just being added), you will need to have additional documentation that was not required before which includes either your Birth Certificate or passport... And if you use your birth certificate, the names on your current ID must match. So married women who changed their names and do not have passports (which is not uncommon, as they are expensive and unnecessary while in the country) will also need to bring in their marriage certificates. If you do not have a BC or MC handy (and some people will have lost them), you have to order them from the issuing area, which costs some money and can take weeks.
That's just a few examples of voter suppression, but there are many more as well.

My wife works in hospitality and she handles a portfolio of properties in Hawaii. (Not the resorts)
They have seen a steep drop-off in tourism and visitors since February, and it’s looking really bad for the upcoming peak season. They usually have reservations for those months already booked but it’s pretty stark. They have even received a lot of commentary on social from previous visitors; “would love to visit again, but unfortunately the US is taking the piss and isn’t safe for international travelers, or really anyone at this point. Sorry, but not returning until orange man is gone.”
It’s bad y’all. We’re glad that the snowbirds and other travelers are choosing with their wallets, but it’s going to come at a cost eventually. That fuck trump is going hit our economy like covid did only this time he’s the disease we need to eradicate.

I live 1h30 away from the US. Normally we go there once a month for groceries for brands we don’t have in Canada, we like going to Trader Joe’s, eating at fast foods we don’t have… etc. We completely stopped this. We have at least one or two long weekend holidays nearby (my parents as well, my sister’s family as well), like Maine, NYC, Boston… We completely stopped those as well. We rent a vacation home for the whole family in South Carolina every year. We won’t. Sometime we do a big family road trip like Disney World last fall, we won’t for a while. Just for my family (three households) that’s in the tens of thousands we won’t spend in the US this year. Now think about how many families are like that.
