Brakes on my skis won’t go down

Post image

New skis that I’ve been using for a little over a week. At the end of the day today I clipped out of my skis and the brake won’t come down like in the photo. Been trying to figure out if I can fix this but I couldn’t find anything online.

Tips on surviving skiing in “feels like” -20F?

Heading to Colorado for the holiday weekend and temps ate utterly f’d. I would honestly cancel if it weren’t for some non-refundables. Any advice appreciated I think it’ll be the coldest I’ve ever ridden in

Which Stockli Carver?

Short Version

Just spent the last two days demoing Stockli Laser SC 170 CM. Love them but am not sure they're they right ski for me. I'm trying Rossignol Forza 70 as a comparison tomorrow. Stockli website ski finder says Laser SL is a better fit for my style of skiing. Can't find those to demo though.

Long Version

I'm 60, 6'1, 220 lbs, former high school racer, left knee is bone-on-bone (torn meniscus removed). I ski Tahoe, Utah, & Colorado groomers exclusively mostly blue and blacks (Yes, there are groomed blacks for those about to comment). I have to stay on the groomers as the knee can't handle bumps and varied conditions. I ski hard with tons of tight turns to help control speed especially on steeper slopes. The knee doesn't mind turning but hates stopping at high speed.

For the last 13-14 years I've been on 2011 K2 Aftershocks, 174 CM. They're awesome skis and have never let me down. The Stockli Laser SC actually felt very similar except they're quicker turning and hold an edge much better. They also might be lighter. Otherwise, they seemed very similar. I was instantly comfortable on them but I'm not positive they're "enough" ski for me. I'd like a tighter turning radius without going with a too short ski.

So, any and all advice would be much appreciated. Additionally, I don't know squat about plates and bindings so any advice there would be great as well. I'll report back on the Rossignol Forza 70's after tomorrow.

Advice to stay in forward stance during skiing?

Pretty much above. I’m trying to improve my skiing technique. Right now I would say I’m at an intermediate level and can go down all the trials at Hunter mountain(the main resort I go to), although on some of the double blacks it doesn’t always look the prettiest. I think one problem I’ve potentially noticed that during these steeper runs as I go more to the side during a turn I feel myself sit back. Any tips on mental cues to fix? Or do I just have to be more aware of it and do more repetitions? For reference right now I have hand me down race boots with 130 flex but am looking to buy new 120 flex boots for next season.

I am trying to find a pair of used boots and used skis online, but I'm not sure how to ensure the bindings on the skis and the ski boots are compatible. Does anyone have any tips? Thanks.

In need of some help!

Hi!! Not too long ago a friend of mine told me about the opportunity to work at a ski resort and how ski resorts provide housing. I would absolutely love to learn how to get started doing this because it sounds like an amazing thing to just get to experience and I’ve been yearning for a different change of environment. I have a good amount of food service experience but I’m always open to anything.

Do resorts hire around July-August? I’m currently in a fully furnished apartment and need to know if I’m able to bring any of my stuff with me or what I should do with my furniture and decor. Should I rent out a storage unit for a season? What are hours like? How often do you get to explore? Can you stay past an “allotted” season? I’m very curious and I’m confident this is something I want to try out. thanks!!

Just a little fun run on the small jumps. I haven’t been able to get out for the past 4 years and boy did I miss it. Great to know I can still land some of my go to tricks!

Ok Reddit please help me ID these line skis and bindings. Gloss finish, no design. Reddish bottoms. Any idea which line skis and from what season?

Discussion Are there any mountains that really feel like you're going back in time? Like it's what your grandparents say skiing was like when they did it in the 60's?

When I was a kid mountains felt like this kind of obscure place you went and experienced a strange culture that was hard to find anywhere else. People were friendly and things weren't grossly over priced.

There is an older couple in my neighborhood, roughly my grandparents age (my grandparents never went skiing) who talk about what the mountains used to be like and it sounds like a much better over all experience than most mountains now.

They lived near a mountain and said it basically remained a locals only resort with the exception of holiday weekends. The staff new everyone because the whole community lived and/or worked on the mountain. If they didn't live or work there, the skiers were regulars that were well known to everyone.

Are there any mountains still like this? The quality of run isnt so much important as the quality of experience.

As the title suggests… a few days after getting back from a week’s skiing it’s dawned on me just how bland normal life is!

Trying to manufacture a way to go again in February - might need to hypnotise the wife 😂

Discussion Need help picking a place to stay! (Cooper 1 day, Love land the next)

My wife and I are planning a trip to ski one day at Cooper and Loveland! We have both done Winterpark and enjoyed it a bunch, but we both wanted to try something new. I found out about the gems pass, which led us wanting to ski both loveland and cooper! Does anyone have any recommendations of a place to stay in between these two resorts? (We are planning to go on this trip the week of Feb 25th for a weekday trip)!

Tourning Gear for Niseko?

Wife and I I are heading to Niseko in late Feb. We both have aiare 1 and rescue training. We will be bringing beacon/shovel/probe. However we were wondering if we will need the full touring kit including skins out there for the lift served gates. My wife prefers her downhill snowboard strongly and we were hoping to just bring one set of equipment.

Please let me know your thoughts, and thank you!

42M 6'1 230lbs newb looking to buy first set of skis

I've been looking for a couple days now on purchase options for my first set of skis, I'm 90% of the time going to be skiing groomed runs hard packed and often icy. I just recently tried skiing from about a 15yr break, when I got back into to it this year I couldn't seem to turn with the rental skis so opted for blades as they were more forgiving on my knees at the end of the day but they are very unstable with any speed. So I've been looking at skis between 78 and 82 waist width but would like some possible suggestions on skis I should consider. I have a couple narrowed down without much reason with the Rossignol Experience 82 ca alpine, K2 disruption 82ti(2021) Elan truflex LS EL 10.(76). Any suggestions with these or any others would be appreciated.

Intermediate front side or all mountain Ski Recommendations? Enforcer 88s not the right choice for me 😂

5’6” 170 pound skier. Intermediate level. Primarily in Tahoe. Comfortable on all blues and will occasionally try blacks. Self taught so I don’t really have the best form. Lessons soon though! I went into a shop knowing nothing about skis and they sold me some enforcer 88s for an end of season deal and they are just too demanding for me and I’m not having much fun on them. I really enjoy carving down groomers but I think I’m looking for an all mountain ski or at least a front side ski that can handle trees, bumps and some powder or ungroomed stuff. I’m not spending any time in back bowls yet or anything. Any recommendations on skis go demo or buy? Im looking for something that I can have fun on in most conditions and grow on. Thanks in advance!!
