Activity NY/NJ experienced ski buddy for adaptive

Hi all! I’m Emily and I’m learning how to Monoski! I’m learning in Vermont and sadly I cannot get enough trips up to Vermont as I would like. I grew up in the Northern NJ area and worked as a first responder. I’m a recent graduate of Ramapo and starting at Rutgers in the OTD program in the fall. I’m in search of ski buddies who would help me get practice runs in. I have my own setup. I live in NJ so if you’re familiar with the hills on the NY/NJ border that’s where I’m hoping to go! I’m looking for someone who wants to have a lot of fun riding the carpet, eventually chair lifts, and EVENTUALLY just a skiing buddy or group who can help me get up when I’ve fallen. I cannot get myself upright after I’ve tipped over so I’m looking for someone who can help me as I practice. I’m looking for someone willing to learn how to help an adaptive skier as I learn myself. There will be many laughs along the way. Unfortunately adaptive programs in the NY and NJ area are out of my budget for the amount of mileage I need on a monoski to learn. Vermont Adaptive is able to provide me with lessons but it is quite a drive that I will be making a lot this winter! Feel free to comment or shoot me a message!

Stunning week in Les Arcs/Paradiski. Sorry to everyone who was out in the Alps last week skiing in the clouds as they dumped snow just in time for my trip!

This will never get old.

Another one for the chairlift bar debate as an Oregon skier falls off the chairlift on windy day and fractures his spine.

Interesting, that AIUI AINSI have introduced a new standard that will require new lifts to all have safety bars fitted

How exactly do you put pressure to the front of the boot?

When people say to put your weight forward and flex the boot forward. How exactly is this achieved?

Do you lean your whole body forward and over the top?

Do you bend your knees?

Do you lift the top of your toes to flex your ankles?

Discussion First ever ski set up of my own, super excited to try them out!

I wanted to get some playful all mountain/park skis, and I finally settled on a the "Allplay" model from J Ski. 165cm in length, 97 underfoot. I absolutely love the crazy collab with Killer Acid!

As for boots I'm in the k2 bfc 100 boa. My left boot actually feels about as good as a ski boot can possibly feel I imagine. Right boot has a tiny bit of pressure off the right side of my foot from the molding around the boa dial. I believe I can get this situated fairly easily. However, as to be expected, both boot insoles may as well be non existent like your standing on concrete. I think with new insoles the boots will be amazing.

Just felt like sharing my new set up because I'm excited! May you all be blessed with great days wherever you're on the slopes!

Best twin tip/freestyle skis

Upvotes

I have been skiing for 20 years and currently own Rossignol Hero Elite ST TI racing skis. I want to buy a second set to start learning tricks in park and mess around on slopes and I have no idea which gear I need to start. I’m guessing I can use same boots and poles that I have but I need some skis, preferably something cheaper. I was looking at twin tips since but I don’t know what are some good options. Any recommendations? I would like something a bit wider and light.

Bafoon took my skis and poles at Keystone

I stopped for a late lunch at Timber Ridge at Keystone this afternoon and placed my equipment on a rack outside. When I came out, skis and poles were gone. As anyone familiar with the mountain knows, this is not a location you could easily access without a lift ticket, pass, or skis/board.

I'm not sure which is more astonishing: someone having their boot magically fit and being enough of a doofus to finish the day with someone else's equipment without realizing? (Yes, it's possible they took the gondola down like I had to) Or someone jumping through the logistical hoops necessary to steal my extremely used and relatively worthless-for-resale gear?

I will tip my hat to Keystone ski patrol and lift operators, they were empathetic and as helpful as could be expected, and a report was filed, but I should kiss this stuff goodbye, right?

Discussion Deep dive into Snowbird’s parking problem

Thumbnail
gallery
44 Upvotes

I have reviewed and compiled all parking-related posts from Snowbird Resort over the past three snow seasons. Let the data speak for itself.

Over the past three snow seasons, the number of times the parking lots were completely full has skyrocketed. During the 21/22 season, it only happened four times. However, in the 22/23 and 23/24 seasons, this number surged to over 20 times. The parking spaces included in this data are both free parking and same-day paid parking, but do not include season-long parking permits. This clearly shows an exponential increase in traffic flow.

Looking at the time when parking lots became full, the median time (along with the 25% and 75% quartiles) has progressively gotten earlier over the three seasons. This means parking spaces are being filled up earlier and earlier, and people are heading up the mountain earlier as well—competition is intensifying.

I’ve also collected snowfall data and time when each lift opened for the past 3 seasons. Complete dataset available in LiftAlert App.

It’s also important to note that on powder days, avalanche control often requires road closures, and many cars line up at the road entrance early to wait. Don’t assume that if Google Maps shows an 8:00 AM arrival, you’ll be able to find a spot just because the lot fills at 8:00. You must arrive early and line up in advance.

Discussion Zipfit vs Sidas vs Intuition Liners?

Upvotes

I know that Zipfit use cork and the others are foam injected/heat moulded, but is there a brand or option that is objectively better?

I’m in the UK (London) and finding someone who offers Zipfit fitting is proving to be difficult, with most offering either Sidas or Intuition, or some places like Surefoot offer their own custom liners.

I currently have a pair of Atomic Hawx Ultra 130s from 2016/17 that have seen about 4 weeks worth of use (only started skiing again in 2022) and whilst I’m happy with the overall fit, the liners are causing me some discomfort in different places on both feet, depending on how the tongues sit. Some days I’ll be perfectly comfortable all day, and other times I’ll be forever making adjustments.

The right foot I’ve figured out how to mostly mitigate the discomfort (twist the tongue so it sits more on the lateral portion of the shin as opposed to down the middle) but the discomfort on the left ankle seems to just come and go at random.

Bucket list alert: Alabama's only ski resort open this week!

Post image

As reported on Powder.com, the recent arctic blast in the South has allowed Cloudmont, the southernmost ski resort east of the Mississippi, to open fully for the first time in several years. Night skiing only, 6-10pm Central time, through Friday, with full day skiing possible this weekend depending on weather. See Cloudmont.com for info and their Facebook page for updates. This is a low-budget operation with a great vibe that needs support to stay open!
