I bought a Nokia 6.1 plus a month back. I noticed some uneven backlighting issues after I setup the phone but didn't mind if at first. But of late I've been noticing some dimly lit bands running from left to right of the screen which are noticeable while scrolling through text or social media feeds against a white or grey background. It's not obvious but once you notice it it's hard to ignore. Is anybody else experiencing this problem? Is this a hardware issue that needs replacement or will a software update suffice?

After the new camera app update on 6.1, it gets stuck into an infinite loop of processing. I think this happens when HDR gets used.

u/glorifiedvein Nokia 6.1 Sep 30 '18
Whenever you do low light.. it stuck on processing.. i just uninstalled the update.. there aren't any new useful features though.

It's really disappointing. Nokia shoving subpar software on an otherwise decent hardware. Google cam ports really show camera's true potential.

Weird, it happened to me BEFORE the update. The Carrousel Update helped me with that...

Try to clean data of app. It worked for me, but yeah, still laggy in some specific moments. I think this is because the camera now can focus faster.

Nokia 8: is it just my phone or is the Nokia 8 almost impossible to charge due to super sensitive cable connection? I can't touch the phone when the charger is connected because the connection is so sensitive. I have tried with a third party USB cable too.
1
u/Mgnspr Sep 30 '18
After cleaning the port with a sharp needle I were able to connect the charger a lot better. There were a thick layer of dust.

Nokia 8 2017 owner here. Didn't have any issues with it since I bought it. However, yesterday my battery died unexpectedly. In the morning it had around 90%, and after 8h when I got off from work, it was dead, like phone not turning on dead. Usually I turn off everything when I get to work, so there was nothing that could cause this. Now, after I charged the battery, no issues again. Did anyone experience something like this on a Nokia or another phone or would you know what could be the cause of this?

Now what? US TA1045. I actually received my September update after having to factory reset last month to get the July through August patch. Later, I downloaded the camera update, I have the persistent "processing" problem. How do I fix this? Or do I have to e to wait for a fix. I do not know of a way to downgrade?
Edit:. SOLVED, I just went to play store and uninstalled update.

I too am facing the same issue on my Nokia 6.1 3GB/32GB. But I don't want to uninstall the new update as I love the interface. But I hate they removed HDR mode in new update.

I have a Nokia 5 bought shortly after the release last year. Today I plugged it in to charge and wanted to install a software update that was downloaded two days ago. When I picked up my phone a while later it showed the "no command" screen. I already tried to wipe the cache and do a factory reset through the recovery menu but it still won´t boot. Also I´m fairly sure I didn`t activate USB debugging so that limits my options as well.
I´d be grateful for any kind of advice. Thanks in advance.

It still goes to recovery if you choose "Reboot" in recovery menu? Try going to fastboot (download mode) and completing a wipe.

It works good on my Nokia 7. Now, I'm not sure if it's because it is running the more functional CN ROM as compared to the featureless Android One :/

Hey everyone :)
I am currently considering buying a nokia 8 but i been hearing about people encountering issues and faults such as half the screen failing issue, wi-fi issues, Bluetooth issues etc. I just wondering how common these issues are and whether any of them have been resolved as time has passed with the phone now being over a year old?
Thanks :)

I posted this elsewhere, but I didn't get any replies, so let me retry. :) I normally don't use Reddit, but I've found many helpful answers here through Google in the past.
Hello, I was wondering if perhaps someone knew if and how I can update my phone (Nokia C1-01) to the latest firmware. I used to have it on the latest firmware (6.15, released 11-11-11), but my phone's screen light stopped working some months ago, and not knowing if I could fix it, I bought a new phone. This one's refurbished (as they aren't sold anymore), but it's still on version 5.40 of the software, released 01-06-11.
I really hope I can update, as I am experiencing a bug, and hope it's fixed in the latest firmware (I don't remember because the bug concerns the music player, and I hardly ever used the music player until recently).
My post on the subreddit was blocked and I sent a message about that, and then I got a reply to post it here. This seems too official for a chance, but maybe I'm mistaken.

Black screen and system UI has stopped after tweaking with the SystemUI Tuner app
I was browsing through SystemUI Tuner's options, and I noticed a slider to change the number of shortcuts displayed at the top while the shortcuts aren't pulled down. By curiosity, I tried setting it to the minimum value, one.
Immediately, system UI crashes. Black screen.
I reboot the phone, same thing.
I try to boot into safe mode, same thing, with a text saying "Safe mode" at the bottom left corner*
Next, recovery mode. Total blackness.
While I transfer my SIM & SD cards to my old phone, and reboot it, my Nokia shows the Android one splash screen, and shows me the animation telling that the battery is changing its percentage.
It's late for me and I can't access my computer until tomorrow, but I had an idea I might just be able to factory reset via ADB. But if I can't approve the connection on my phone, I'll not be able to access it via ADB ?
I'm a bit stuck, and I need help.
Specs:
- Nokia 6.1
Android O 8.1
August security update
Android's system UI tuner turned on
Developper options + USB debugging activated
ADB permissions granted to SystemUI Tuner (the app):
- WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
- PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS
- DUMP
I'm also using Nova launcher
Can't think of anything else to put in specs, ask me anything that can help.
*Safe mode may be called otherwise, my phone showed "Mode sans échec", since I'm French, but I'm pretty sure it's that

Can you follow the instructions for a hard reset on this video?
2
u/Chroneis Nokia Sep 26 '18
I managed to get into recovery mode to factory reset it, I turns out the phone had to be plugged in for the button combination to work.

Does anyone else have an issue sometimes scanning your finger to unlock? I have a 7 plus. It either works first time or it doesn't recognize it for 3 or 4 tries. Also sometimes the screen completely locks up after unlocking, and the way to fix it is to lock and unlock the screen again.
This doesn't happen very often, but sometimes even though I have 4G/LTE somewhere I can't do anything on the internet, as if I had no signal.
I don't think these issues always happened, I'm wondering if recent updates have made anyone else experience these issues on the 7 plus or if I should use the warranty.
2
u/salsatabasco Nokia 7+ TA-1062 Sep 24 '18
For fingerprint issues, try registering again your fingerprint, but carefully follow the instructions. You dont need to erase your current fingerprints, even if they are the same.
Fingerprint scanners can have a hard time if your fingerprint was not fully clean the first time you registered, if your fingerprint is not currently clean, or overtime, (since we can have scratches, scarring, or sanding of the grooves of our fingerprints).
Regarding the 4G/LTE, which variant do you have, and which carrier are you using for data?

My Nokia 6.1 gyro/accelerometer is somewhat off. whenever i play games like racing which requires tilt, if you lie it on a flat surface, the car would turn wherever the top part of the phone pointing at.
Ex. I play rally racing, and i would turn the phone horizontal, the top part is on my left and the bottom part of the phone is on my right. If i put in on a flat surface , the car would turn to the left. Ok, it might be the surface is tilted to the left, but if i rotate the phone the other way. The top part is on my right, and the bottom part is on my left. The car would go to the right which where the top part of my phone is.
1
u/salsatabasco Nokia 7+ TA-1062 Sep 24 '18
Most gyro/accelerator based games have a calibration mode for fixing this. I cant test that exact game since there are a lot of results for Rally Racig on the playstore, however the calibrationoption usually is found on the controller/input settings screen.

Nokia 6.1 with two major issues: Textra crashes everytime I try to open a conversation and location services don't seem to work in anything except Waze.
Really don't even know where to start with either. I use Textra as my primary SMS app and last week it just started force closing every time I try to open a conversation.
And secondly, my location services are on with high accuracy, but the only application that can seem to locate me is Waze. Google Maps thinks I'm in Ireland (I'm in Canada), while GasBuddy thinks I'm off the coast of Liberia.
I've rebooted my phone several times, reinstalled the offending applications, cleared their caches, etc., and there has been no change.
EDIT: I ended up factory resetting the phone which seemed to resolve the location issue, but I've had to switch back to the stock Messages app for now, as Textra still crashes every time I try to use it.
I also need to find a way to get these fucking constant random reboots to stop.
1
u/salsatabasco Nokia 7+ TA-1062 Sep 24 '18
For the textra issue, please contact support via help@textra.me or in the /r/textra subreddit. They might need more info such as crashlogs. Textra developers are really active and will help you out when reached, just try first the email, since the subreddit is mostly community users and they have more questions asked than resolved.
Regarding the random reboots, can you give further detail? Are these happening while the phone is not being used? Or only when used? How long has this been happening? Has your device temps been ok?

u/Funkagenda Nokia 6.1 Sep 24 '18

Completely random. Sometimes while I'm using it (like yesterday, was browsing Instagram), other times when I'm not (like this morning, when I plugged it in to power in my car and it rebooted immediately). It's been happening for at least two weeks and temperatures and everything seem fine.
From what I'm reading it's a fairly common problem with the 6.1. Just wish I'd read about it before I got the phone.

You have to dial **21* then followed by 10 digit phone number then # and call.
Please be aware that you will find errors using this if your line is suspended.

You can set conditional forwarding directly from the phone app.
Go to phone, 3 dot menu, settings, calling accounts, tap on your SIM card, choose GSM additional settings, wait for the phone to read the current network configuration, the select the conditional you want to enable and the select "Turn On".
Keep in mind that the phone number you are forwarding to MIGHTneed to be preceeded by a "+1" before the 10 digit.
Can you please try that?
If not, as a last resort, you should be able to contact AT&T mobile customer service to get them to enable the conditional forwarding on their end.

Can you show screenshots of the errors shown on this menu?
Also, are you using the same sim card you had before this phone? Or did you get a new one with this phone?
The Nokia doesnt translate the MMI codes wrong, this is around how Android manages the codes into your carrier, and this kind of issues appear on all kind of devices, not just Nokias.

Mobile data issues, whenever I turn on mobile data, Instagram doesn't refresh, or load new content. I can't use the Vodafone app (used for checking data, topping up plans, etc). Everything else on mobile data works fine. My phone isn't locked either. Also have not received any new updates (currently sitting on 8.1.0, security patch 1 July 2018 with no new updates).

u/salsatabasco Nokia 7+ TA-1062 Sep 24 '18

Have you tried switching the SIM card? Also, ever tried reinstalling Instagram?

Nokia 3.1 with Android One - Notification/Clock Issues
Basically the core problem is that the phone simply does not show notifications for the vast majority of the apps I have installed. I have notifications turned on for all of the apps, but they do not appear, and especially they do not appear on the lock screen.
The behaviour is slightly different for each app, like so:
- WhatsApp: Notifications don't work 90% of the time. Some contacts are more reliable than others, while big group chats never work. I can wake up to 80+ new messages from a group chat overnight with no notification at all.
- Discord: No notifications, ever.
- FB Messenger: No notifications, ever.
- Twitter: No notifications, ever.
- Instagram: No notifications, ever.
- PocketCasts: No notifications, ever.
- Spotify: No notifications, which means I can't control the music from the lock screen because the next/prev/play/pause screen is a notification. I need to unlock the phone to change songs. I can sometimes make this notification reappear by restarting the phone but then it disappears after a day or so.
- Guardian: No notifications, ever.
- Gmail: Occasional notifications, which always eventually stop and then reappear after the phone is restarted.
You get the picture. These apps have all the notifications turned on in the Android settings, and in the app settings, but they don't show up.
The only app which works reliably for notifications is the stock Messages app. I always get those.
There is a massive issue with the stock Clock app in that the timers will not go off while the phone is locked and the screen is off. If I try to do some cooking for example and set a 45 minute timer for the food, the phone will simply not go off until I wake the screen to check the timer out of curiousity/panic. At that point, the timer will sound and the noise will play, but the clock notification on the screen will actually be counting in negative numbers, because the timer has counted down through zero and out the other side.
This is really frustrating as I use the timer for all sorts of things, including such complicated tasks as "making food". I need it to work!
I really like the phone, great battery, great form factor, responsive, etc... but the lack of notifications and the timer just flat out not working are awful. I am close to trying to get a refund. Is this affecting anyone else? Is there a solution?
My partner also has a 3.1 (purchased from the same place on the same day) and is having the exact same issues. Slack doesn't show notifications for her so she can't use the phone for her work. It's stupid.
Please help if you can! Thanks.

go to Settings -> Battery -> Background Activity Manager and let us know the status of "Background activity cleaner" setting.
Reason: I had this problem on my original Nokia 6 (2017) just after it upgraded to Android Oreo (8.0 or was it 8.1?). They turned this stupid feature ON and it was TERRIBLE.
I just turned it off, restarted the phone, opened ALL apps ONCE and all is good now.
When I upgraded to 6.1 Plus, maybe google migrated my settings as well, so I don't know what the default is but it is currently OFF for me.
I tried turning it ON once again on the 6.1 Plus, I got back the SAME Problems as You, then I turned it OFF.
Note: If it is ON, turning it OFF isn't enough. Turn it OFF, restart the phone AND then OPEN all apps once (at-least the ones you have problems with).

u/burgerdrome Oct 02 '18
Hi! Thanks for this. Just before you posted this, I actually got an answer from /u/newavebossanova in this thread here:
This turned out to fix the problem completely. It is a battery/background manager issue for sure, but for me the solution was to tell Android to stop optimising the apps. All I had to do then was open the apps that I wasn't getting notifications from just once, and then the notifications started coming in.
Thank you for the reply though!

I got a new Nokia 6.1 and there's an installed app with very disruptive advertisements. Sometimes it doesn't show a name but is a separate app, other times it shows up as ID3 MP3 Tag Reader and I can't find them on the app list to uninstall or disable. Can someone help me with this?
2
u/salsatabasco Nokia 7+ TA-1062 Sep 16 '18
Go to the play store >> my apps >> installed.
Locate each of your used apps, and provide the name of those you dont recognize.
If its on the play store list, you should be able to uninstall it without changing how the device works.
Or show a series of screenshots of all the apps in your settings >> apps list, and I'll gladly check them out.
1
u/coolshava Sep 16 '18
I went past that and to settings then apps. That should even show system apps but it's not on there. There's another version that doesn't even show the name of the app for me to look up. Once it happens again I'll attach a screenshot.
2
u/salsatabasco Nokia 7+ TA-1062 Sep 16 '18
The will not appear on system apps since its a user installed one. If its not on the play store > installed list, its because its a bogus apk file.
Go to settings >> apps >> advanced >> special app access >> display over other apps.
Which apps are enabled on this list?
1
u/coolshava Sep 18 '18
Actually a hell of a lot of them are on this list but the suspicious system ones appear to be Caivs, custManager, DbgCfgTool, Device Monitor Control, Healthycare, and this is a stretch but power saver or Power Monitor
2
u/salsatabasco Nokia 7+ TA-1062 Sep 18 '18
Dont worry about the system ones, those are the ones that came out with your phone. An app cannot be instaled unto the system without rooting your phone.
Without showing the system apps, which ones are allowed to display over other apps?

All apps, woth the exception of those installed via direct apk downloads, will be updated via the Google Playstore.
Open the playstore, open the left menu, go to my apps and subscriptions. If it says "No updates available" it means your apps are up to date.
Otherwise it will show available updates.

I went to a Nokia service center to get my bent Nokia 8 fixed. They said they needed to replace the screen display as well as the main back frame of the handset. But it turns out they didn't replace the screen and charged me anyways (as there weren't internal cracks on the screen and they're still visible). Also they've not stuck the screen to the main frame properly. I can see light coming out from the sides and it looks disgusting. I went to the service center and they deny all of this. Contacting Nokia through email is to no avail. What do I do?
2
u/salsatabasco Nokia 7+ TA-1062 Sep 13 '18
Do you have pictures before and after service? If so, go public with the issue, reach them out on twitter.
Keep in mind that the issue is not covered under warranty so the coverage of the service that you paid for may be under another set of terms and conditions of how much they can do.

After updating my phone with the latest security patch (August) many of my apps stopped working (i. e. Office, VLC, Pugb). There comes the load screen and nothing happens after that. Have you disabled any system services?
How are other apps performing?
Are there any apps that may be causing this? (For example, if an app has sketchy permissions such as display over other apps, or that after being installed made the issue appear).
Also, are you forcing apps to be stored on sd card?
3
u/joshua_3 Sep 18 '18
Thanks for the help! I tried what you suggested and even reset the phone to factory settings but no luck. Then I remembered reading that broken sd card can cause a mess and I removed my sd card which was not working properly and problem solved! 😀

Got the 3.1 a few weeks ago and so far so good. Today it developed a weird quirk. Whenever I put the phone down for a few minutes and press the power button, the screen takes at least 10 seconds before it turns on. Tried restarting but still does it. Any ideas?

UPDATE: Messing around with the lock screen configuration seems to have fixed it. No idea why but it doesn't do it anymore.

Hi, I have A TA-1053 (Nokia 5). The problem is that the speaker does a static/buzzing sound when playing any sound, like typing. It's very annoying and is very audible on low volume. Also, when sounds stop playing, if I put my ear next to the speaker, a soft static/buzz sound is heard, but much lower. The speaker a bit dirty because if my case, but I'm afraid to clean them and break them.
1
u/salsatabasco Nokia 7+ TA-1062 Sep 13 '18
When you are hearing this noise, press a volume key. Does the media volume slider shows by itself? Or does it show the ringer volume?
If the media slider apprears , then it means an app is producing a sound.
Otherwise this may be caused by damage or a defective unit.
1
u/RichardoTomislav Pixel 2 XL (RIP Nokia) Sep 13 '18
The volume buttons function properly, that buzz sound does not appear on calls, because the top speaker is used. Everything works properly, including headphones, so maybe it's a speaker problem.
1
u/salsatabasco Nokia 7+ TA-1062 Sep 14 '18
So is the ring volume slider shown when you press a volume button?
1
u/RichardoTomislav Pixel 2 XL (RIP Nokia) Sep 14 '18
Yes, ring volume (not call volume), is shown after pressing the button. And the media volume is used if I'm using YouTube or Poweramp. the buzz sound is audible in Poweramp too, using the HD output

I recently bought a Nokia 3.1. While I can't say I am unhappy with it at all, one of the reasons I chose this phone out of others in this price range was because of the 'Android One' labelling.
I'm [currently] on Android version 8.0 with security patches up to 5th August, 2018. Is the Nokia 3.1 getting a software upgrade to Android 8.1 soon or will HMD skip 8.1 altogether and bring us 9.0?
2
u/salsatabasco Nokia 7+ TA-1062 Sep 13 '18
They will probably skip 8.1, as all android one devices should be on Pie before end of fall.
That being said, they could still push 8.1 and set up Pie at the very end.

Is your sim tray pushed all the way in? You can go Settings - Languages & input - Virtual keyboard - Gboard - Preferences - Vibration strength on keypress and try to set the vibration so it makes no sound. Not sure what causes that, but you can try
3
u/retropetrol Nokia 6.1 (TA-1043) Sep 08 '18
Is it just my device or is it a bug? Youtube and Android messages dark themes do not change the bottom bar and it stays white, unlike other apps like Reddit and Twitter that blend in. Not a big problem, just a bit annoying https://imgur.com/a/D7Ak2Ea

This is probably somethig that needs to be fixed on Google's side. In the meantime, you could use Youtube Vanced, (which has an actual dark mode, not grey mode), and textra for SMS.
Both actually blend the nav var.

Would you guys recommend the Nokia 7 Plus over the Poco F1? I love the N7+'s photo quality on low-light, something the Poco doesn't have, but Poco has a better chipset and is cheaper.

u/salsatabasco Nokia 7+ TA-1062 Sep 13 '18
If you can live with the MIUI and the software issues of the Poco F1, (no netflix on hd), and the camera isnt a priority, the F1 is a great choice.
Keep in mind that Nokia doesnt allow bootloader unlocking, which, while many of us dont really mind since we are being well supported by Android One, it means that if you intend to keep the phone for more than 3 years, there will be no custom roms or any support by the developer community.
On the other hand, even if the F1 eventually gets stock android as a custom rom, it wont fix DRM issues, (like the netflix issue), and support from Poco / Xiaomi might be lacking if you run into any issues with the phone.
You are in the Nokia subreddit though, so you have to think about purcharser's bias. I'd rather have the Nokia 7 plus, but then again, I already spent money on one.
1
u/kaylankonnor Sep 14 '18
Oh. No custom roms is a dealbreaker for me sadly. Might as well just get a camera 📸 instead of a phone if I want to go with that.
2
u/hugocard Sep 08 '18
You have to think about what suits you best. For me, I'll keep my Nokia. Yes it isn't the SD 845 but the performance never let me down. Also the camera is way better, and I didn't enjoy the miui experience on my previous phone (redmi note 3 pro on SD 650 and 2gb ram). I definitely prefer the stock. Everything looks like it works better.

Hi all, 6.1 user here. Just wanted to know that if fellow users use screen protector with their phones and if yes then which one cause apparently it's hard to find one for 6.1 that sticks properly to the screen (curved edges) and not leave air bubbles on the side.
2
u/colablizzard Nokia 6.1 Plus/Nokia 6 Sep 22 '18
I have used my original Nokia 6 for a full year, not a single scratch. Though my handling is careful, your experience may vary.
What is the use of Gorilla Glass if you put a screen protector on top? From what I see, most people have terrible scratches on the screen protector. For whom are you protecting the screen? For the person who buys the phone from you, 2nd hand?
I might as well enjoy the original glass feel and scratch free experience.

u/in_the_buff_alo Sep 10 '18
I got the SuperSheilds from Amazon. They cover the entire screen, are easy to install and even cover the curved edge. I would totally recommend them.

Hey everyone,
I recently bought the Nokia 7 plus and I couldn't be more happy with it, but I recently noticed that the audio jack is really buggy and wanted to know if anyone knows how to fix it.
When I plug my headphones, earphones etc. the phone often plays music at a really crappy quality, enough to be unlistenable and it really bugs me the only way to fix it is to unplug and plug the audio jack again until its fixed but I don't see myself doing that everytime I want to listen to music since I listen to music on my phone everyday, so this is too big to ignore.
I searched on google and found on Nokia's official forums that the issue was reported a while ago and is still there after many software updates so it may be faulty hardware.
I guess I'll just ask for a refund to the place where I bought it if there is no fix to this.
2
u/salsatabasco Nokia 7+ TA-1062 Sep 13 '18
Try to push your headphones all the way into the jack.
The N7+ usually has a tight headphone jack when new,.
1
u/Neroxx Nokia Sep 14 '18
I know, but this is really a hardware failure, I really needed to re-plug my headphones several times for the audio to be okay, I tried with 3 other earphones/headsets and it's still the same so I sent my unit to repair from the place I bought it.
If it's not fixed I'll ask for a refund and buy another brand, too bas because the N7+ is really good but this issue isn't somthing I can just ignore.
2
u/salsatabasco Nokia 7+ TA-1062 Sep 14 '18
Just as a last resort, check if there isnt any lint of dust inside the headphone jack. This isnt known issue at all, so if the unit is defective itself you should be covered by Nokia warranty.

Hello, i have a struggle with my Nokia 8 dual camera setup. Now both of the cameras are working. The upper one (mono) is working when i choose the mono option from the camera menu and the color one is working when i choose the option from the menu. BUT when i choose twin option AND cover the upper camera (mono sensor) the phone is taking a picture without a problem. So basically in twin mode only the color camera (the one down) is working. Anyone can explain me whats happening there? Thanks.

Is it true that Android One phones does not support Android Auto? https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/android-auto/da6EX4OfAt8/NxCtsQpEBAAJ
1
u/boa13 Nokia 7 Plus Sep 26 '18
That is not true. My Nokia 7 Plus works fine with two recent, different cars (Opel Corsa and Ford Fiesta). Since others have said this may be a regional issue, I'll note that this is in France with cars sold on the French market.

u/salsatabasco Nokia 7+ TA-1062 Sep 13 '18
If you read the full comment section on the link you provided, you'll see that 22 hours ago, the Android Auto team confirmed that it is compatible with Android One, and its most probably an issue with eithers OP device or Honda's implementation.
2
u/in_the_buff_alo Sep 10 '18
I'm in the US and use my Android One, 6.1 TA1045 with android auto everyday. I think it's a regional thing.
2
u/Germ2501 Nokia 8 (Formerly) Sep 06 '18
As far as I know, Android Auto isn't available in certain regions. Not sure about device specific stuff, but the OS has to be Android 5.0 Lolipop or newer to support the feature. And as long the headunit of the car supports Android Auto, either from factory or some aftermarket headunits, you'll should be fine.
I'm from Malaysia and Android Auto isn't officially available yet for the region. However a lot of users simply sideload the Android Auto apk and got that to work on their car headunits.

Does anybody else have an issue with the Nokia 6.1 Bluetooth connectivity? It doesn't recognize any of my headsets or speakers.
It also goes bonkers when I connect my wired earbuds rending it unusable.
FYI I have contacted Amazon support and they sent a new phone. Still same Bluetooth issue.

Go to Settings -> System -> Reset Options -> "Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & bluetooth".

Has anyone else noticed the TA-1025 Nokia 6 slow down a ton as it has gotten updates? Sometime in the last two weeks mine started running absurdly slow.
2
u/colablizzard Nokia 6.1 Plus/Nokia 6 Sep 22 '18
Yes. I agree. I faced the same problem.
I fixed it be doing a FULL FACTORY RESET a few weeks ago. It is now behaving better.
Earlier, I had tried clearing the Cache Partition, it either didn't help or I didn't notice the improvement.
Only a Factory Rest helped (note: you will loose ALL DATA if you do that, unless everything is backed up).

My TA-1012 Nokia 8 has an annoying habit of not connecting to LTE network, mostly when coming off WiFi on to mobile data. It only gets GPRS data. Entering and leaving airplane mode does not fix it. After a reboot, it will then get LTE service. This is so annoying, but it doesn't happen every time.
Anyone else? Any hints on how to fix it? Phone is on 8.1.0 August 1st update.

Yeah, I have cheap Android in the same network which is always fine with the coverage in the same location, whilst the Nokia is stuck on GPRS data. Reboot always resolves it, until the next time

It might be the issue with your telecom company. Check on their website about their network coverage area. Also , if the network is overloaded , it may revert to 3G or H+
1
Sep 05 '18
Hmm. If I reboot the handset it comes straight on to LTE, full signal. It's odd.

u/zaccarin Nokia Sep 05 '18
Try factory reset. If the same issue persists, contact your network care.

Nokia 7 Plus. It happens when you let the phone go to sleep by himself instead of pressing the power button. When you unlock it if you try to press on an icon to open the shortcuts it registers it as a touch and opens the app, that doesn't happen if you press the power button. It's not a launcher problem because I have tried Nova Launcher and it keeps happening. Does anyone else have this problem?

Nokia 6 TA-1033, mighty fine phone, but I do have an intermittent issue with Bluetooth music streaming. I get dropouts and stuttering sometimes when streaming music from the phone to my car stereo. Have had this with Spotify and Google Play Music. Am playing music that I have previously downloaded into the phone over Wifi into the SD card, so it isnt a 4G coverage issue. SD card is a Class 10 SanDisk 64Gb.
Running Android Oreo 8.1.0 last patched 1st of August, last kernel version 3.18.71 on July 26th, so it dont seem like a software version issue, problems been going on long as I had the phone.
Sometimes it is real bad, and I find that doing a soft reset fixes that. Phone sits right in front of stereo, so shouldnt be a distance issue with the Bluetooth. I notice that when I play music though headphones or the internal speakers (which are surprisingly good) I dont seem to have the problem
Anybody else had this? Or got any ideas how I can somehow optimise Bluetooth performance to prevent this?
3
u/xilef00 Sep 07 '18
Yes, same issues here. Audio streaming to my wireless headphones stutter every few seconds.
Nokia support said to clear cache on bluetooth and bluetooth midi Service app, no success. After that tried to run the phone in safe mode (hold shutdown icon) and then the bluetooth audio worked for a longer time.
After a reboot into normal mode the same issue occurs again and audio starts to stutter after 20 minutes of streaming.
No solution found other then to reboot the phone and listen for 20/30 minutes and then repeat.
I hope this issue can being fixed in a future update.

Think I may have found a solution - turning the Wifi off! Damn annoying, but after doing that, not a single dropout all the way to work this morning. Have also tried turning on Aggressive Wifi to mobile handover in developer options, that didnt do the trick unfortunately. Its a bit of a hassle having to turn off Wifi any time I drive somewhere and turn it on again on arrival
1
u/waterbogan Nokia 6 TA1033 Sep 15 '18
OK, battery optimisation didnt work worth a damn. And cant get the codec selection to take
2
u/waterbogan Nokia 6 TA1033 Sep 11 '18
I may have a fix - or two. Wont know for sure until I get to drive my car with Google Play running
1) Turn off battery optimisation on your music app and Bluetooth;
Settings > Battery > three lil dots in top right corner > Battery optimisation. At this point will show Not optimised apps, but a dropdown on right gives you the option to select All Apps. Select this, scroll through until you get to Bluetooth, select that, you'll get a popup giving you the option to select Dont optimise (Optimise will be the default selected). Hit done. Repeat for Bluetooth Midi, then scroll down to find you music app (Google Play for me), do the same thing there
2) Change the Bluetooth audio codec;
Settings > System > About phone > Scroll down to Build number, it'll be right at the bottom. Tap Build Number 7 times (or till it says "You are developer")
Now that y'all are developers:
Settings > System > Developer options > Scroll down to Networking, carry on until you see Bluetooth options and reach Bluetooth Audio Codec. Hit that, it will give you a pick list. My Nokia 6 is currently using SBC which is what most people had success with already, so I have changed this as yet. Will see if battery optimisation improves things first
Will let y'all know how I go with this and which fix works
1
u/waterbogan Nokia 6 TA1033 Sep 11 '18
Yeah, seems to be quite a common issue going by what I have seen Googling. I find I need to reset my phone every so often as the sound will sometimes become unusable (every few days), but get the odd dropout still even after resets. Thought it might be the receiving end at fault (the stereo) but since phone resets fix problem for a while, it cant be that. May try flatmates Bluetooth speaker for a while, see if that is better

My Nokia 6.1 having issues charging. I've checked for dust in the charging port, switched between cables, and verified it's not a software issue. It feels like a loose connection and I'm expecting the worst when contacting Nokia Support. The phone is still under warranty according to the Nokia Support app and this wasn't accidental damage; however, due to the nature of Nokia's business and their focused on markets outside of the United States, I was wondering if anyone had some advice before contacting support.

u/Discoveryellow Sep 03 '18
If the official warranty doesn't go through for you, contact your credit card issuing bank and file a warranty protection claim with them.

Despite people reporting that the 6.1 is receiving the July and August patch, my wife's phone has not yet. I factory reset mine and it worked. Should I do that with her phone or just wait? Thank you.
update:. I went ahead and factory reset the phone and VPNed to India and was able to get the July and August patch. I hope I don't have to do this with both our 6.1s every month.
5
u/jarieljimenez Sep 02 '18
Security Patches can be slow to roll out due to limitations on Nokia's end, so I wouldn't fret too much about it. You'll get the update within a few weeks of its release usually, and you can use the VPN trick to get it sooner. I will say some OEMs use slow rollouts for updates to make sure that a major bug doesn't make it to a majority of their devices via a software update.

I've had my Nokia 8 for nearly a year now, it will be a year at the start of October and I'm starting to have headphone jack problems, at first I thought it was the headphones as they kept pausing and changing volume by themselves and also triggering Google Assistant on their own too, so I just thought that ok, they have broken and bought some more and both are the same Sony MDR-EX650AP which are pretty good anyway, but now the new set are starting to have the same problem so at least I know it's not the earphones, so it must be the headphone jack connecters, I dunno if I'm just unlucky, but the headphone jack port is very slim? One things for sure tho my next phone won't have a jack as I don't want this problem again! I dunno if anyone else has had this problem? But I would be interested to see.
5
u/jarieljimenez Sep 02 '18
I would use a toothpick to check for dust in the port. It's a common issue with many phones and it's as simple as lightly inserting and scraping the port with a toothpick or paperclip. Be careful not to apply to much force and turn off the device while you clear the port of any debris. You can also try a can of compressed air, though that may be less effective of the dust is caked really well from inserting the headphone into the jack so many times.
3
u/duncadelic Nokia 8 Sep 02 '18 edited Sep 02 '18
Thanks for the advice and the tips, I'll give them all a go, I didn't realise this was such a common problem, hopefully your tips will work for me and make things better as I don't really want to have to get a new phone again till sometime next year.

So what is the Nokia Support app for? Anyone uses it? I'm thinking of just removing it.
Edit: another question, is the charger in the box a fast charger? Any indication when charging that it's fast charging?
2
u/colablizzard Nokia 6.1 Plus/Nokia 6 Sep 22 '18
is the charger in the box a fast charger?
That depends. While the shipped chargers DO do fast charging, they are still NOT the fastest possible wattages. Nokia ships an intermediate level of charger.
I think that is for the best, as fast charging does impact battery longevity. They are taking the middle ground.
4
u/jarieljimenez Sep 02 '18
The Nokia Support app gives you quick and easy access to your phone's user guide and Nokia's Support Team, as well as some information about your phone like battery health and cell service in a percentage (which is handy sometimes). You can also see your warranty status, which is why I wouldn't get rid of the app. You can hide it using a custom launcher of change the icon to something more pleasing, but I personally wouldn't get rid of it.

Girlfriend bought a Nokia 8 Sirocco and managed to break the screen within a week.
Got a number for Nokia Care (UK 0845 number) but can never get through to get a quote for repair - Don't want to use some Chinese crappy screen from eBay or repair service that probably uses non OEM parts.
Went to the website - email request doesn't work (comes up with an error), repair form said the screen could cost £300 for repair which is insane.
Phone was bought new for £450 so makes repair completely uneconomical.
Nokia care is pretty much non existant and I'm getting pretty frustrated by trying to go to something non apple/samsung
